J40nB494_p0600b05道無二致,唯在當人一念純真,原始要終不變異耳。J40nB494_p0600b06南泉和尚云:「喚作如如,早是變了也。」不動之謂如,但J40nB494_p0600b07不可安著名字。試看父母未生已前,一段綿密不露J40nB494_p0600b08絲毫底光景,豈是伊相狀名邈所能彷彿?從上祖佛J40nB494_p0600b09到這裏,有口只堪掛壁。事不獲已,向壁立無縫罅處J40nB494_p0600b10略露一線,不過控當人箇入路而已。既得箇入路,又J40nB494_p0600b11須求箇出路。所謂入路出路者,秪據學人見地了與J40nB494_p0600b12不了而論。若果是箇過量漢子,向他未屙已前一逴J40nB494_p0600b13逴得,轉向今世門頭大行闊步,自不落他名相窠臼。J40nB494_p0600b14等閒拈一機、示一境,直得森羅萬象徹底孤危,大地J40nB494_p0600b15山河通上險絕,到這裏說箇一念純真尚屬分外,寧J40nB494_p0600b16有出入名相令人落岐路耶?不見曹山和尚辭洞山,J40nB494_p0600b17山曰:「甚麼處去?」曹云:「不變異處去。」洞云:「不變異處豈J40nB494_p0600b18有去耶?」曹云:「去亦不變異。」吾宗門下曹山可謂妙得J40nB494_p0600b19其家風者。何則?蓋吾人一往,心路多、習氣盛,於他古J40nB494_p0600b20人心性玄妙機境上搭著便上,大似蒼蠅為唾沫所J40nB494_p0600b21粘,無自由分。據實而論,皆變異也。聖見且爾,況凡情J40nB494_p0600b22乎?所以古宿云:「凡情聖見是金鎖玄路,直須回互。」又J40nB494_p0600b23云:「一念凡聖情見未忘,便打入驢胎馬腹。」英靈衲子J40nB494_p0600b24果要合他先聖古轍,不須別作伎倆,但只要將心識J40nB494_p0600b25上所蘊底雜骨董盡情傾卻,時中保養似狸奴白牯,J40nB494_p0600b26百不知、百不會,騰騰任運、任運騰騰,任是諸天雨花J40nB494_p0600b27無路,外道潛覷不見有蹤,到此方稱本色衲子也。
示楚璞侍者
J40nB494_p0600b29參學高士入此箇門中,若踏得諸佛正脈著,始不被J40nB494_p0600b30他閑機境所惑亂。看他靈山頭陀一花,從無名無相J40nB494_p0600c01中拈出,雖智如鶖子、辯似滿慈,尚不能測量,何況聾J40nB494_p0600c02俗人天而不罔?然古德云:「不是心,不是佛,不是物。」直J40nB494_p0600c03下綿綿,不露絲毫,可謂理契寰中矣。後來饒舌底,無J40nB494_p0600c04端添箇是甚麼之語?雖則慈悲之故,卻令他捕影覷J40nB494_p0600c05光之輩向平地上著倒,大似靈龜負圖,自取喪身失J40nB494_p0600c06命之兆。要知本色宗師,為人自別。不見白雲端祖云:J40nB494_p0600c07「鼓聲未擊之先、山僧未登座之際,好箇古佛樣子。若J40nB494_p0600c08人薦得,可謂古釋迦不前、今彌勒不後,更聽三寸舌J40nB494_p0600c09頭上帶出來底,早已參差。須知有辨參差眼,方救得J40nB494_p0600c10完全。」此翁尋常立處孤危、用處嶮絕,而今雖則放開J40nB494_p0600c11一線,要且不失其宗,只貴上根利智之士向他言外J40nB494_p0600c12承當、不去意中領略,何慮一切時不超諸限量、一切J40nB494_p0600c13處不迥絕羅籠?昔人有云:「善學柳下惠,終不師其跡。」J40nB494_p0600c14此言雖近,可以喻遠。
示妙光侍者
J40nB494_p0600c16西天諸祖說法雖尚理致,然類皆聖師應運垂手之J40nB494_p0600c17際,他於果上承當,不向因中領略,是以不落今時。傳J40nB494_p0600c18到震旦,有等乘言滯句之流執為窠臼,若非馬師應J40nB494_p0600c19讖而出,移其途、革其轍,首以一喝聾大雄之耳變為J40nB494_p0600c20機鋒,少室真宗流通豈到今日?昔人喻為迅雷破山、J40nB494_p0600c21烈風振海,無堅不破、無跡不絕,信然。厥後承其派者,J40nB494_p0600c22若南泉、歸宗、黃檗、臨濟輩,各各用本分手腳格外提J40nB494_p0600c23持,一如神龍入海,變化莫測。蓋他尋常用得家活大、J40nB494_p0600c24步驟闊,非的的沒量大人莫能克紹。大覺、興化又臨J40nB494_p0600c25濟入室之子,一味奮通天作略、用蓋世機關,拳倒須J40nB494_p0600c26彌、踢翻滄海,尚未彷彿其標致,況㽄嗄之器,得一知J40nB494_p0600c27半解便謂登堂入奧,何異將甌持水擬比大洋?瑯琊J40nB494_p0600c28和尚云:「剪除狂寇、掃蕩欃槍,猶是功勳邊事;君臣道J40nB494_p0600c29合,海晏河清,猶是法身邊事。」若局一機一境,或執箇J40nB494_p0600c30前後際斷底清淨境界以為了當,正克符所謂太平J40nB494_p0601a01寰宇底癡頑是也。苟非莫邪橫按,正令當行,策其前J40nB494_p0601a02進,終身墮在無尾巴猢猻隊中,為害豈鮮鮮哉?所以J40nB494_p0601a03雲門和尚云:「直得盡大地無纖毫過患,猶是轉句;不J40nB494_p0601a04見一色,始是半提。須知更有全提向上在。」看他雲門、J40nB494_p0601a05臨濟用處,覿體通同,但學者無定古今眼目,故不能J40nB494_p0601a06區別。而今要與他從上諸老把手共行,無論全提半J40nB494_p0601a07提、向下向上,一總颺在搕𢶍堆頭,只放出自家活卓J40nB494_p0601a08卓底本有神通,如擊石火、似爆龜紋,神化無方,捷迅J40nB494_p0601a09罔測,其迴天轉地、越格超宗之功,又豈在諸大老以J40nB494_p0601a10下哉?不是強為,大丈夫兒合自由爾。
示彥明侍者
J40nB494_p0601a12還鄉盡是兒孫事,祖父從來不出門。誠哉!有妙旨矣。J40nB494_p0601a13試嘗論之:從上得悟諸老,如高峰睹真贊以及墮枕J40nB494_p0601a14之類,所謂還鄉盡是兒孫邊事是也。若不出門底祖J40nB494_p0601a15父,當人切不得向佛祖言下覓;若向佛祖言下覓,則J40nB494_p0601a16賺汝平生了也。何故?不見佛眼和尚云:「以迷心故,山J40nB494_p0601a17林中來見善知識,將謂別有一道可令人安樂,不知J40nB494_p0601a18反究向來迷處功夫最第一。」於此明得,管保室內閒J40nB494_p0601a19閒也。
示祖裔維那
J40nB494_p0601a21道人住山,無別營為,隨分拈柄,尺八五分钁頭,不假J40nB494_p0601a22功勳,翻轉空劫已前一片田地,久久純熟,不惟穢草J40nB494_p0601a23不生,而靈苗且蕃茂也。近時有般冒名之輩,身雖住J40nB494_p0601a24山,仍復經營世諦,以致歲月荒唐,心地茅塞,亦復不J40nB494_p0601a25省,此皆流俗阿師所趨向,正古人所謂有為功德被J40nB494_p0601a26塵瞞,無限田地不曾掃者是也。吾子素甘枯淡,且又J40nB494_p0601a27勤力,誠不負住山名實,但時中履踐,要須刻苦精專,J40nB494_p0601a28以變化氣質為本分修行。蓋無量劫來為患,最是我J40nB494_p0601a29慢二字,若不回互,一味徑情,直遂于己于人,恐妨道J40nB494_p0601a30義。《法華》云:「柔和善順,心不卒暴。」《涅槃》以慈善根力為J40nB494_p0601b01成佛之基,吾佛且然,況博地凡夫夙習濃厚,與生俱J40nB494_p0601b02生者耶?今既照破,而不奮金剛劍直與斬斷,更隨其J40nB494_p0601b03牽纏流浪乎?大抵衲僧有攻苦食淡之操持,不可無J40nB494_p0601b04登高行遠之志氣。試看古人住山,有百鳥啣花者,有J40nB494_p0601b05諸天送供者,及至遇人之後,頓使啣花無路,送供無J40nB494_p0601b06門,其故何歟?這箇所在,若一毫頭善惡情見未忘,不J40nB494_p0601b07免隨他意識流走。意識既流走,焉得不被神鬼覷破?J40nB494_p0601b08除是情不附物底真道流,一切時中只守閑閑底,任J40nB494_p0601b09是褌無襠、褲無口,頭上青灰三五斗,且不礙本色家J40nB494_p0601b10風。當與麼時,且道鬼神還覷得他破也無?這裏著得J40nB494_p0601b11隻眼,尺八五分钁頭方許他把,不然,見山忘道之流J40nB494_p0601b12不堪與共語也。勉之!勉之!
示荊玉禪人
J40nB494_p0601b14年少參方須立志,晨昏切莫恣兒戲,用心細究古人J40nB494_p0601b15言,謾把光陰等虛棄。君不見?臨濟當年是後生,三年J40nB494_p0601b16行業稱純一,堂中首座人天眼,嘵嘵對檗云奇特。又J40nB494_p0601b17不見?佛日本空小阿師,十三行腳有機思,宿學見之J40nB494_p0601b18皆讋應,千古宗綱力荷持。二老都是人類出,只比時J40nB494_p0601b19流多道骨,佳言善行載竹帛,珍重效之不可忽。爾字J40nB494_p0601b20竊比荊山玉,顧名思義須善蓄,假使什襲不加工,小J40nB494_p0601b21有破壞寶不足。修身慎行恐辱先,聖哲良言好不讀,J40nB494_p0601b22讀之熟矣在躬行,如不躬行徒得名。子今求示示以J40nB494_p0601b23此,時中業業須競競。
示汪廣涵居士
J40nB494_p0601b25從上來事只貴直行直用,牙齒間不許沾著箇心性J40nB494_p0601b26玄妙字眼。何則?蓋許多名目乃先聖之機權,本分事J40nB494_p0601b27上無如是事,古人不獲已為作方便,故云:「不是心、不J40nB494_p0601b28是佛、不是物。」直饒向這裏一腳到底,已是周遮,況見J40nB494_p0601b29未真者去門頭戶口捕影覷光,以為自家本有之物,J40nB494_p0601b30奚止笑破衲僧鼻孔?是故從上先聖立如許綱宗之J40nB494_p0601c01意無他,不過解此見道未真者之惑而已。故臨濟因J40nB494_p0601c02破夏公案後建立七事,洞山以過水睹影而悟建立J40nB494_p0601c03五位,古人豈欺我哉?居士天性近道,但不曾經本色J40nB494_p0601c04鉗鎚鍛煉,卻向淺處擉破,一切時中或向經論中、或J40nB494_p0601c05語錄中,卻被古人老婆舌頭賺卻也。不見山谷沒量J40nB494_p0601c06漢,初于晦堂吾無隱乎爾處窺得一斑,死心知其所J40nB494_p0601c07見未諦,故有死心死、學士死,燒作兩堆灰,向甚麼處J40nB494_p0601c08相見之問。後來向黔南道中悟得,乃寓書死心曰:「庭J40nB494_p0601c09堅生平被天下長老瞞過多少,惟有死心道人不肯,J40nB494_p0601c10是真實相為。」山谷此書可以為居士作左券也。山谷J40nB494_p0601c11于兩堆灰處大徹,居士請向日落後如何相見處下J40nB494_p0601c12得一語,始不負別峰斫額望也。
與老寺和尚
J40nB494_p0601c14匡廬距黃梅只一衣帶水,竟不能折葦東來,一探老J40nB494_p0601c15祖罏鞴,可勝怏怏。然間於往來雲水邊,詢知吾弟荷J40nB494_p0601c16道精勤,不隨時風所尚,私心健羨,以為真吾家白眉J40nB494_p0601c17也。但晚節末路,古人所慎,吾弟能以此自勉,不惟先J40nB494_p0601c18靈巖老子藉以吐氣,凡在宗黨亦借餘絢矣。匡廬風J40nB494_p0601c19氣大變,在昔藉缽耕者莫不抱在陳之憂,即思亦以J40nB494_p0601c20此而赴龍舒之招,較吾弟孤峰頂上水足草足,何啻J40nB494_p0601c21天壤?茲啟者,棲賢和尚乃法門難得人,目下有黃梅J40nB494_p0601c22之遊,必過老寺,冀吾弟以禮接之、以誠待之,孰謂宏J40nB494_p0601c23智、妙喜之風不復見于今日哉?相見難期,惟為法為J40nB494_p0601c24人勉旃是囑耳。
與萬杉湖海二西堂
J40nB494_p0601c26法運固秋矣,苟有其人,雖乾坤剝落,何難使覺樹敷J40nB494_p0601c27榮。思以駑鈍,常恨力不逮志,自甘伏櫪度時。端望有J40nB494_p0601c28力大人,光闡宗猷,不啻身有之也。春初到山,得瞻兩J40nB494_p0601c29兄毫相,即知靈鷲枝條,秀發萬杉深處矣。一往健羨J40nB494_p0601c30之私,實匪管舌可喻。昨者風聞好音,知威音那畔紹J40nB494_p0602a01繼心燈,今時門頭開發妙蘊,不惟祖庭生色,而弟輩J40nB494_p0602a02亦借光多也。欣甚欣甚。滿擬躬賀,以山頭積雪未消,J40nB494_p0602a03特遣侍者代候。餘俟春風解凍,即圖晤也。時寒,萬萬J40nB494_p0602a04以道自愛。
與天寧兩序
J40nB494_p0602a06弟罷駑,瞠乎兄等後塵,蓋有年矣。雖嘗以訐舉忤眾,J40nB494_p0602a07然一點愛敬之誠,未嘗斯須去念,此亦諸兄之所熟J40nB494_p0602a08諳者。往歲笠掛邗江,鄙懷初無他願,只欲覓一行單,J40nB494_p0602a09終身以卑自牧,庶得近光左右,而永共嚶鳴之好。不J40nB494_p0602a10意和尚謬舉非材,正如客作傭人一旦授以寶華王J40nB494_p0602a11位,其欲不驚號躄地而悶絕者,庸可得乎?執別以來,J40nB494_p0602a12日益恐懼,唯是匿影深巖,刀耕火種,不將隻履踏他J40nB494_p0602a13今時岐路,於師門或可無丘山之損矣。居閒每念時J40nB494_p0602a14當多事之秋,而天寧一席,居南北孔道,固和尚主法J40nB494_p0602a15者之難,亦兄等贊勷者之所不易也。唯思所以難,必J40nB494_p0602a16當居敬行誠,勉以致力,則雲龍風虎,不難再見於今J40nB494_p0602a17日。在弟譾劣無似,何當進斯過位之言?以法中骨肉,J40nB494_p0602a18亦不肯自甘菲薄,視同秦越人之肥瘠也。初弟入山,J40nB494_p0602a19原擬訪亮公遺跡,道過匡阜,愛其佳麗,因而頓轡。但J40nB494_p0602a20山頂高寒,六月非綿不煖,是亦業在其中,毋煩諸兄J40nB494_p0602a21致慮。且古人不以形疏致外,江山雖遠,道契則鄰,此J40nB494_p0602a22窮巖中之所以不索寞也。肅此布候,唯諸兄為法為J40nB494_p0602a23人,勉旃自愛。
與大安和尚
J40nB494_p0602a25一葦東渡,不獲祖帳河橋,我心惄然。歸邗時,知放舟J40nB494_p0602a26已至長干,且審不忍小忿,與波旬爭一旦之雄,連城J40nB494_p0602a27瓦礫,或幾乎其俱碎。公素負經濟,何臨事昏聵若此?J40nB494_p0602a28昔趙括讀父書而亦善談兵法,其臨陣無有不敗,公J40nB494_p0602a29其是哉!法駕計已還山,時中望收視反聽,以祕重大J40nB494_p0602a30法為事。我輩廁身此箇門中,別無所圖,但只吐得幾J40nB494_p0602b01則有巴鼻語,收得幾箇有骨力漢,則責任盡矣。公豈J40nB494_p0602b02無意乎?其無意乎?
與友人
J40nB494_p0602b04溽暑甚矣,有竹干雲不足以剪畏日。壁間懸活水圖,J40nB494_p0602b05對之毛骨震掉,一似登金焦而觀駭浪也。不敢獨享,J40nB494_p0602b06邀足下來共樂之。
與語溪大師
J40nB494_p0602b08岑寂峰頭,與世曠絕。承老弟不憚高遠,枉駕過存,為J40nB494_p0602b09緣雖促,固已如逃空谷者,聞足音跫然而喜也。匡廬J40nB494_p0602b10風味,迥別蘇揚,未審初入山人能甘之否也?先此問J40nB494_p0602b11聲,專俟春風解凍,邀吾弟來評論鄱水黔雲。
復泰興眾護法請住慶雲
J40nB494_p0602b13我師翁之道法被遍淮南,諦思發軔初地,實自慶雲J40nB494_p0602b14始也。雖陵谷代遷,而剎竿巋然如故,非藉擎山持杵J40nB494_p0602b15如諸大護法者為之呵護,焉得聲光赫奕與廣陵諸J40nB494_p0602b16大剎爭雄峙哉?凡屬派下兒孫,不待金地之招,自應J40nB494_p0602b17趨灑掃之役。曩者得我仁、碩兩法叔先後接踵,復昌J40nB494_p0602b18大先人之業,是由地藉人興而人因地顯矣!思譾劣J40nB494_p0602b19無似,奚敢仰希高步?乃辱虞旌遠及,儼然忘其固陋,J40nB494_p0602b20重之以典席之命,雖捐糜以趨效焉,猶未能酬知遇J40nB494_p0602b21也,敢復因循怠忽而膜外置此席哉?唯是隈巖歲久,J40nB494_p0602b22而山麋之習幾與性成,恐不堪膺禮法之索,未免以J40nB494_p0602b23此為憂。惟眾護法為吾門世護,冀推屋烏之愛以及J40nB494_p0602b24區區,必覆護之始終而安全之,則山野食德寧有艾J40nB494_p0602b25哉?不莊啟者,期達實情也。草復不恭,統惟垂炤弗宣。
復祖脈禪師
J40nB494_p0602b27自從吾兄飄然遠引,凡在同門,莫不惘然如失。後詢J40nB494_p0602b28南來雲水,竟不知神蹤落處。及弟辭維揚,曾與諸兄J40nB494_p0602b29言別。然數年已來,終以不得一的耗為懸懸也。客歲J40nB494_p0602b30維揚人回,承以書貺見寄,捧接如睹真月,如獲髻寶。J40nB494_p0602c01迨驟讀一過,則知吾兄一段事師之誠,交友之誼,久J40nB494_p0602c02而彌篤。甚矣!仁人之用心,超出尋常萬萬也。至諭時J40nB494_p0602c03流泛泛應事者,鄙懷幾與吾兄共之。弟嘗細詳此輩J40nB494_p0602c04用心,自入吾門,原無甚大志,不過為衣食而已。在彼J40nB494_p0602c05又何足怪?所可怪者,是當今知識不分皂白,公然以J40nB494_p0602c06真子待之;彼又不知分量,亦公然以真子任之。嗟乎!J40nB494_p0602c07傷風敗教,莫大於此。然我輩不幸而際此時會,出處J40nB494_p0602c08亦各有道,詎可因彼而事抑損?子輿氏有云:「待文王J40nB494_p0602c09而後興者,凡民也。」若夫豪傑之士,雖無文王猶興。第J40nB494_p0602c10我輩所言興者,不在天子奉迎、諸侯推轂,又不在門J40nB494_p0602c11庭廣大、徒眾蕃殷。果是鼻孔端正,操行無虧,然後或J40nB494_p0602c12晦跡山林,或垂手廛市,但杖頭腳底,不使落於今時,J40nB494_p0602c13是為得矣。由是而言,即我輩中亦罕見其有全人也。J40nB494_p0602c14何則?苟有其志者,而行不逮;苟有其行者,求其飲水J40nB494_p0602c15茹荼,歲寒不變之堅剛骨操,又無與焉。是以不逮古J40nB494_p0602c16人遠矣。若吾兄者,尚何言哉!以慷慨拔俗之標,兼瀟J40nB494_p0602c17灑出塵之志,加以入道穩實、操履清真,斯弟數年前J40nB494_p0602c18一見而心服者。但此番瓶缽既返天寧,願言按下雲J40nB494_p0602c19頭,以剛健應事。況南吳北楚,參扣有年,世態人情,不J40nB494_p0602c20可謂兄不知之深者。兄但細忖,今日之叢林,果昔日J40nB494_p0602c21之叢林;今日之人境,果昔日之人境乎?惟應行我所J40nB494_p0602c22應為,不應求全責備於他人也。弟雖駑鈍無似,然三J40nB494_p0602c23折肱而成醫,且每荷道愛,諄諄以至言規弟,弟寧自J40nB494_p0602c24甘菲薄,而不還以規兄。我兩人者,應各棄其所長,而J40nB494_p0602c25取其所短也。
復棲賢和尚
J40nB494_p0602c27石橋揖別,不忍回首,恐金井玉淵,增我嗚咽愁嘆聲J40nB494_p0602c28耳。弟一路追憶教言,殊深銘佩。因思我輩生平以山J40nB494_p0602c29水友朋為性命,今無故以饑驅出山,山水友朋二俱J40nB494_p0602c30失卻。每一念及,不覺痛悔之驚心,而感憤之沁骨也。J40nB494_p0603a01適接手諭,知吾兄亦增離索。然所恃萬杉密邇棲賢,J40nB494_p0603a02海兄在,爾猶我兄,或不致太寂寞耳。獨是弟賦性孤J40nB494_p0603a03陋,今又入孤陋之鄉,何以過日?雖古語有云:「剎海匪J40nB494_p0603a04遙,本之無間;江山雖遠,理契則鄰。」然終不若一室團J40nB494_p0603a05圞之為快也。屢承厚遺,汗顏以領。弟行期只會倫公J40nB494_p0603a06一面,即便登程。天氣尚炎,且吾兄素不任勞,幸珍重J40nB494_p0603a07自愛,萬毋以弟為念。餘懷縷縷,筆不能悉。想千里同J40nB494_p0603a08風,彼此領言外意耳。藉手草復,并謝種種。不一一。
復雷峰天然和尚
J40nB494_p0603a10警錫出山,失于贐送,然不謂遽有此行也。及接手諭,J40nB494_p0603a11知蓮車已去天畔,悵然久之。乃憶壬子來山,獲瞻毫J40nB494_p0603a12相,且喜歸宗祖席得人。嗚呼!今幾何日耳,而變更若J40nB494_p0603a13此,豈叢林興替亦隨時數耶?承諭有重來之意,此老J40nB494_p0603a14人之志而吾輩之願也。但戎馬在郊,我觀四方正在J40nB494_p0603a15蹙蹙靡騁之際,願且順時頤養,俟皇路清夷,然後行J40nB494_p0603a16己之志,孰謂趙州、安國不復見于今日乎?草復不恭,J40nB494_p0603a17統希慈亮。
與棲賢和尚
J40nB494_p0603a19霪雨經旬,山中樹杪,豈止百重泉而已。弟山房晝掩,J40nB494_p0603a20終日如炭庫裏坐,時中非藉佛祖鼻孔相與揩磨,這J40nB494_p0603a21場困悶不易處也。昨敝門人來自龍舒,相率彼中檀J40nB494_p0603a22護,以一山院相請,審其土俗人情,似亦純朴,且饒米J40nB494_p0603a23鹽,足可為住山養道之地。第一邑之地,有數十禪師J40nB494_p0603a24圍繞,因思古人誡子書曰:「汎追逐則勞汝形神,慎交J40nB494_p0603a25遊則鼓人唇舌。」況拙直愚戇如弟,而能儼臨稠人中,J40nB494_p0603a26高下處置得宜否?以故尚緩其行,專俟秋風稍涼,拽J40nB494_p0603a27杖過棲賢,想吾兄定有以見教也。

J40nB494_p0603a29讀種瓜、牧牛諸作,破除世諦,直顯家風,真不負鐵額J40nB494_p0603a30銅頭讖矣。第以事牽,不能賡和,惟有高歌健羨而已。J40nB494_p0603b01時節擾擾,高岸深谷亦未得寧居,可勝浩嘆。昨熊燕J40nB494_p0603b02老遣令郎來投一扎,欲弟于五老峰頭代為覓居。弟J40nB494_p0603b03感燕老為人,即以空香菴許之。荅書後,遣人去汛掃。J40nB494_p0603b04鄰菴諸僧知之,乃有繁言,謂熊公有關係人,五峰如J40nB494_p0603b05何容得?弟聞之大笑,故特啟吾兄。若山下時事稍寧,J40nB494_p0603b06乞方便,燕老可暫止之,所謂一動不如一靜也。如其J40nB494_p0603b07不妥,自不必說。豈有吾輩稱佛子而不拯人于患難J40nB494_p0603b08中乎?弟素畏炎熱,行期卜在秋初,恐懸念,故並及之。
復棲賢和尚
J40nB494_p0603b10山房晏坐,領所惠選香,時一把爇,覺故人之意殷殷J40nB494_p0603b11厚矣。因念匡廬好友,如我棲賢石老,實指不多屈。方J40nB494_p0603b12將藉此以暢山懷,乃復以分衛出山,東鼓山頭孤陋J40nB494_p0603b13人,何堪當此岑寂哉?然思發菩薩心者,自有菩薩擁J40nB494_p0603b14護,想歸期匪遙,茲所謂暫時分手莫躊踟,弟又重以J40nB494_p0603b15自慰也。歸宗老人昨過山頭,極喜東鼓形勢尊高,贈J40nB494_p0603b16言有「一峰獨當瀾濫穩」之句。因思此老人深慈厚德,J40nB494_p0603b17足以挽迴末運,倘天假以趙州、安國之年,我輩可恃J40nB494_p0603b18以高枕而臥矣。滿擬躬送湖頭,恐反多兄一事,特命J40nB494_p0603b19侍者以代。春氣尚寒,萬萬以道自愛。
復趙國子居士
J40nB494_p0603b21昨尊使至,適與陳懋老敘談,因而共展閱佳什玅墨,J40nB494_p0603b22我二人殊讚嘆不已也。第不審居士何修得此靈腕J40nB494_p0603b23哉?陳懋老系出吉水,蓋居士鄉里也。因細玩之久,不J40nB494_p0603b24謂尊使遽歸,殊失裁荅,想高明者定亦原諒之也。靈J40nB494_p0603b25隱我祖山,十餘年失掃灑,偶因華扎論及,令我一度J40nB494_p0603b26慚惶、一度思讀樓觀滄海日之句,恍夫登韜光遠眺J40nB494_p0603b27時。況匡阜我故山,又一旦拋卻刺頭,于維揚鬧浩浩J40nB494_p0603b28處作居停主人,鎮日酬應不暇,對居士韻人怎得不J40nB494_p0603b29恨殺哉?然或天假我以年,不即填溝壑,將來天台南J40nB494_p0603b30岳覓三間茅屋以終殘喘,峰頭逐雲、竹裏踏雪,恐不J40nB494_p0603c01肯多讓于居士,與異目老二荒寺經營土木日無寧J40nB494_p0603c02晷,一切匾額碑記心有餘而一時籌畫不及,稍遲或J40nB494_p0603c03借重居士如椽,又豈止李北海、顏平原而已哉?別後J40nB494_p0603c04不審居士客況何似?唐人云:「不嫌野外無供給,乘興J40nB494_p0603c05還來看藥欄。」山埜借此為居士道,有暇望即一命杖J40nB494_p0603c06也。
復微老和尚
J40nB494_p0603c08與和尚別久矣,憶二十年前同入靈山之室,比時見J40nB494_p0603c09叢林之整齊、規矩之嚴肅,任他千二百眾,然皆堂堂J40nB494_p0603c10龍象。今幾何時而法運凋零若是?他不具論,即靈隱J40nB494_p0603c11祖山亦荒寒之極,和尚平生肝腸火熱,聞之亦嘗動J40nB494_p0603c12心否耶?至若天寧一往,顛沛甚有過于祖山者,凡在J40nB494_p0603c13宗黨有心扶豎宗祖道法者,睹此蕭條之狀,不知痛J40nB494_p0603c14哭流涕當何如也?前春以維揚檀護遴選住持,而及J40nB494_p0603c15不肖以時量事實,進退維谷,繼而念先師靈塔孤冷,J40nB494_p0603c16遂黽勉而來。舟過白門,滿擬一禮雙足,以舟子忙迫,J40nB494_p0603c17竟不及晉謁,致使咫尺慈顏又成蹉過,可勝嘆哉!昨J40nB494_p0603c18諸兄來揚,接手翰,知俯應準提之請,俾孤陋之姪思J40nB494_p0603c19藉此得一親塵教,兼罄二十餘年之積悃,謂非天假J40nB494_p0603c20之緣則不可也。況有孫孝翁之人望為之推轂,可謂J40nB494_p0603c21賢主佳賓一時際會。前慨當今法道之衰,今睹和尚J40nB494_p0603c22此舉,思輩可以額手稱慶矣。但準提雖曰更新,實多J40nB494_p0603c23欠缺,惟望鼓老當益壯之興,造彼後進,福此方來,則J40nB494_p0603c24區區之所至願也。兩公復命,先布積懷,餘惟翹首江J40nB494_p0603c25干,耑望來旌而已。春氣尚寒,伏乞保護四大,以為法J40nB494_p0603c26為人是禱。
復許青嶼護法
J40nB494_p0603c28前者便過毘耶,承老維摩款以香齋,登舟時覺齒頰J40nB494_p0603c29間津津然猶有餘馥,信乎其自香積擎來耶。居閒念J40nB494_p0603c30太翁功成名遂,且有兩令郎出仕,其得俸足以供太J40nB494_p0604a01翁甘旨。當此時也,不可不謂之大福德人,較之身嬰J40nB494_p0604a02塵網者,奚啻天壤懸殊哉。願此後光陰,冀留神祖道,J40nB494_p0604a03庶不負南嶽老人親授杖也。至若思者,居山不甘岑J40nB494_p0604a04寂,處世又厭塵囂,椰子一軀究竟無安著處。今春偶J40nB494_p0604a05承祖山之召,方思藉此投閒作養病計,那知久廢之J40nB494_p0604a06剎事更滋多,因念積勞之軀何能堪此。昨接手教,具J40nB494_p0604a07審道履如常,且得過和上晨夕接談,縱霪雨困人,藉J40nB494_p0604a08此可作消遣法也。承注念,藉手肅復,把晤之緣想在J40nB494_p0604a09秋風戒寒時耳。臨楮翹企不盡主臣。
復香水和尚
J40nB494_p0604a11霪雨淋漓,乃勞兩專使跋涉如許程途,已屬過分,矧J40nB494_p0604a12又重以厚貺,雖手足之誼出乎至誠,然彼此窮院子,J40nB494_p0604a13我心極不安也。至承過分獎借,似涉客氣,恐非兄弟J40nB494_p0604a14間相與所以切磋琢磨之意。大抵人情喜譽而嗔毀,J40nB494_p0604a15當順境來前,苟智鑑不明,僥倖之念由之而生,為害J40nB494_p0604a16詎不甚大?古人云:「行百里者半九十。」斯皆歎晚節末J40nB494_p0604a17路之難。今而後吾與老弟交勉之,庶履此世此時之J40nB494_p0604a18要著,不審弟謂然否?天寧祖院四載而內外一新,實J40nB494_p0604a19藉佛力冥庇,況去冬得 聖駕親臨,不可不謂之一J40nB494_p0604a20大奇遇。記得十八年冬寓舒山荒院,聞天寧有意請J40nB494_p0604a21我,私念任大責重,非綿力所能支持。是夜夢先老人J40nB494_p0604a22慰我曰:「果能此道也。」遂覺,不勝感泣,心知此語乃中J40nB494_p0604a23庸上者,但前後句義生疏,不復記得。侵晨即過大義J40nB494_p0604a24書記寮索觀,方知下二句為「雖愚必明,雖柔必強」也。J40nB494_p0604a25今天寧一旦改觀,豈非先老人之靈也耶?吾弟有可J40nB494_p0604a26造之資,兼有可為之品,但器量不大,識見不高,只此J40nB494_p0604a27兩端,未免貽我憂也。七月望後,有維揚之行,不特專J40nB494_p0604a28為龍華之舉,記得今春力辭天寧,諸護法曰:「天寧我J40nB494_p0604a29等不敢屈留,但敕建之疏、蕭閒之扁,是和尚分上事,J40nB494_p0604a30尚未完成,這關係我輩不敢當,要和尚自處。」以此一J40nB494_p0604b01節,遂鈍置至今,然遲不過明春了此案也。六月下梢,J40nB494_p0604b02準定接弟來三峰,有要緊話與弟商酌,然非筆舌可J40nB494_p0604b03能盡者。痛念法道凌夷,師門寥落,我輩受佛祖師友J40nB494_p0604b04蔭庇,乃有今日,若一味坐享安樂,置道法于不問,此J40nB494_p0604b05韓昌黎所謂食其祿而怠其事,必有天殃。我輩聞此,J40nB494_p0604b06寧不惕然生警乎?佳什法語,俱讀過一遍,遲遲寄來,J40nB494_p0604b07餘望磨勵道骨,鼓勇前來,以副我望是禱。
與華山僧老和尚
J40nB494_p0604b09年餘不奉塵誨,仰慕之懷有如山積,妄意舟過吳門,J40nB494_p0604b10庶得一覲毫相。又念華座逼近祖山,盡力道不得箇J40nB494_p0604b11入門句子,由此一端,並和尚處亦缺接足修敬之禮J40nB494_p0604b12也。非恃平日知愛,敢露此窮乞相哉?三峰之行,出於J40nB494_p0604b13意想所不到。春初接虞山書,見其誠懇篤摯,遂勉赴J40nB494_p0604b14金地之招,然實不知有仁和尚事也。比時若知之,必J40nB494_p0604b15決意前來,以妨賢路,在世俗君子尚不忍為,況吾輩J40nB494_p0604b16同源共本者乎?且仁和尚與思昔曾同入先靈隱之J40nB494_p0604b17室,素稱相好,今以一院之故,便紊尊卑之分,真非人J40nB494_p0604b18也。入院後,始聞舊住僧一言之,猶未獲其詳,及西堂J40nB494_p0604b19法兄招赴瞿府齋,始悉其巔末,遂不覺仰天歎而俯J40nB494_p0604b20地慚也。乃以三峰之故,帶累和尚受如許波吒,人非J40nB494_p0604b21木石,情何以堪?前讀手訓,曾未一言及,足見和尚天J40nB494_p0604b22高地厚之量,俾思心形俱服,舉世踞曲彔者能體此J40nB494_p0604b23心,何患乎親親之道不復見於今日?前承慈愛,非筆J40nB494_p0604b24舌所能鳴謝,以托缽城中,遲于遣候,日下方始還山,J40nB494_p0604b25薄具香資,侑以麤物八種,敬專兩禪代伸九叩。目前J40nB494_p0604b26以天寧破絮,力辭不脫,不無反顧憂,俟秋後去維揚J40nB494_p0604b27了此公案,定當躬叩方丈,以圖懺罪也。山中蒙慈庇,J40nB494_p0604b28人事麤畢,人情麤安,但不肖思以積勞之軀,日來善J40nB494_p0604b29病,總之薄福德人遭際如是如是,無足為和尚道者,J40nB494_p0604b30惟願和尚順時頤養,以為宗屬主盟,是所切禱,餘不J40nB494_p0604c01贅。
與香水和尚
J40nB494_p0604c03法華會上佛囑累諸大菩薩忍苦弘經,其言深而其J40nB494_p0604c04慮切,今人只作尋常文字念過,此法道之所以凌夷J40nB494_p0604c05也。歎我輩不獲生佛法全盛時,與乘願諸老共相砥J40nB494_p0604c06勵,亦一大不幸,苟非骨性堅剛、志力廣大,欲冀不隨J40nB494_p0604c07世波靡,庸可得乎?是故嘗對室中諸子曰:「我輩如逆J40nB494_p0604c08浪撐舟,稍涉遲疑即下流矣。」所以自慶雲風波摧拉J40nB494_p0604c09而後,曾無一念退墮,併無一毫怨尤,刻刻以佛祖老J40nB494_p0604c10和尚天大法門叢林為念。今叢林雖成,而法門尚未J40nB494_p0604c11遂志,總之以得人為難耳。日望同門中有擎頭帶角J40nB494_p0604c12之士挺出,茲時說三峰負累可以弛擔,猶是私意。老J40nB494_p0604c13法弟試看當今碁布名山、稱知識者,誠實有幾足當J40nB494_p0604c14吾輩一豎點首哉?所以古人願得有手眼宗師三百J40nB494_p0604c15六十員布滿天下,始稱快意,使其睹目今法席荒寒J40nB494_p0604c16之狀,又不知發何等慨嘆也。前承專使惠顧,復言中J40nB494_p0604c17已披肝瀝膽於專使前矣。所以者何?深念老弟有出J40nB494_p0604c18世之具,數年來皆不得其地,今區區一香水,烏足以J40nB494_p0604c19展其驥足?古人云:「與其老死於丘壑,不若領眾行道J40nB494_p0604c20于叢林。」況年齒正富,正老法弟有為之日,特專知客J40nB494_p0604c21挐舟奉接,千祈將香水庶務委之執事,來三峰作十J40nB494_p0604c22日快談,一傾積愫。中元後即有揚州之行,想同條共J40nB494_p0604c23本者自能念我艱辛,不待再四叮嚀,便拽杖橫趨耳。J40nB494_p0604c24近聞維揚境內又遭水患,且四方多事之秋,龍華會J40nB494_p0604c25我立意不行,只去憑檀護把天寧有箇下落,我則放J40nB494_p0604c26心住三峰也。然猶有許多心腹不可以形之紙筆,非J40nB494_p0604c27面傾不可,惟弟諒我苦心,相見匪遙,茲不多贅。
與馬魯士郡丞
J40nB494_p0604c29護法佛法中人,當王事靡盬之際,猶諄諄以箇事是,J40nB494_p0604c30究非靈根宿植,曷克臻此?舟中承諭:此事見得分明,J40nB494_p0605a01只臨機吐不出。此無他,見所礙耳。不見《圓覺經》云:「理J40nB494_p0605a02礙正知見。」所謂正知見者,即吾人知冷知熱,毫不作J40nB494_p0605a03意者是。古德向那邊透過,卻來這邊行履,見山是山、J40nB494_p0605a04見水是水,狹路相逢,設有人問著,只拈出箇日用平J40nB494_p0605a05常底與之酬唱,正南泉所云平常心是道者是也。趙J40nB494_p0605a06州了此一生平應機,不是鎮州蘿蔔,便是青州布衫,J40nB494_p0605a07或教喫茶去、或命洗缽盂,綽綽然有餘裕,豈離日用J40nB494_p0605a08應酬外別有所謂道耶?今之禪者見不及此,往往離J40nB494_p0605a09波覓水,異見橫生,是以觸途成滯也。護法性與道合,J40nB494_p0605a10不愁將來不透頂透底,與昔楊、李諸公並駕爭驅于J40nB494_p0605a11千古上下,但請目下將平日見得底、會得底一齊放J40nB494_p0605a12下,只於方冊中去不得處盡力參去,久久或摸著古J40nB494_p0605a13人鼻孔,這遭任是臨濟、德山到來,亦轉他向背後立,J40nB494_p0605a14更慮甚臨機道不出耶?向以宰官目護法,相會時每J40nB494_p0605a15每放過,自京口晤對,見途中猶不離看祖錄,且與盧J40nB494_p0605a16公互相扣擊,不覺恍然自失。使非受記靈山,何能篤J40nB494_p0605a17信吾道若此?敬為前佛後佛稱慶而已。天寧山門承J40nB494_p0605a18台護,乃俾匿跡深山之病比丘無反顧憂,此種大德J40nB494_p0605a19不當以筆舌鳴謝,惟有心感而已。便中草率,不覺葛J40nB494_p0605a20藤,娓娓餘懷,統候面傾,臨書瞻切。
賀上方碩老和尚
J40nB494_p0605a22靈山言別,雲月各天,雖不獲時挹清光,而高風道範J40nB494_p0605a23實在心眼中矣。客秋得信,知和尚卓錫上方,不惟草J40nB494_p0605a24木生輝,亦且人天增慶。不肖遠寄荒域,為之躍然。思J40nB494_p0605a25向閱廣陵舊誌,深羨上方一剎卓絕前古,加以蜀崗J40nB494_p0605a26盤秀、珠泉結靈,信非尋常天壤之所作合。雖晚近凌J40nB494_p0605a27夷堂舍鞠為茂草,而勝蹟奇觀儼然猶昔,今得和尚J40nB494_p0605a28主之,實地靈有待而興也。思切睹祖風寥落,是處叢J40nB494_p0605a29席荒寒,獨靈山剎竿號為極盛。昨拜讀老人全錄,嘆J40nB494_p0605a30其法性寬洪,被機廣大,其卷其舒有如雲龍入海,變J40nB494_p0605b01化莫測。大哉!真末世光明幢也。但普說中有舉鞠多J40nB494_p0605b02公案勵新戒者,何故卻引香嚴為證?思反覆推詳,不J40nB494_p0605b03知所以。若以鞠多為未得道者,而商那失擇法之明;J40nB494_p0605b04若以香嚴為已得道者,則溈山無知人之鑑。何則?彼J40nB494_p0605b05鞠多者,未付法已機用超群,既付法則花曼三尸之J40nB494_p0605b06神通妙絕,其不識香乳空注者,豈真然耶?至於香嚴J40nB494_p0605b07之問一答十者,不過聰敏記持,而溈山古佛已先為J40nB494_p0605b08結案矣。及乎家私籍沒,要他通個祖翁契券,卻又為J40nB494_p0605b09地所礙,其搜尋秪對者,豈真不然耶?借使鞠多之證J40nB494_p0605b10道不圓,還如香嚴之見道不穩,是豈無說乎?擬思酬J40nB494_p0605b11對,早落識情,纔入三昧,即屬變異。一個為所知障,一J40nB494_p0605b12個為障所知,兩處較勘,誠有天壤之隔,似不合同例J40nB494_p0605b13而語。然蒙者亦固知老人有當斷不斷、不招其亂底J40nB494_p0605b14劍在,始末推求,但不知劍鋒所在。和尚法眼洞徹淵J40nB494_p0605b15源,特持上告,萬望不吝垂慈,委曲提示,則三千里外J40nB494_p0605b16蒙優渥矣。未緣頂禮,殊切翹勤,拙偈山誌,聊當瓣香J40nB494_p0605b17之敬,惟為法為人以時珍重不備。
復棲賢石鑑和尚
J40nB494_p0605b19專使來山,愧無茶點,聊備蒿湯之儀,座下不以褻慢J40nB494_p0605b20為愆耶?別來已再月,契闊滋甚,遐想三峽淙淙,與法J40nB494_p0605b21音並吼,不禁神開駿躍,第無因飛渡雲峰,一領搖松J40nB494_p0605b22握塵之談耳。思樗散無似,客冬於火爐頭吐得不稽J40nB494_p0605b23之語數十篇,侍者拾而成帙,實下里巴歌也,奚足以J40nB494_p0605b24唐突大方?但辱在法愛,故不避醜拙,敬塵清覽,幸座J40nB494_p0605b25下一加意品題,是峻阪鹽車之下而受,非嘗知遇矣。J40nB494_p0605b26仲春寒暄不常,惟珍攝不既。
復金蘭日燄大師
J40nB494_p0605b28思海甸鄙人,十餘載碌碌禪波,而泛識者固多,其知J40nB494_p0605b29交極少,蓋以秉性疏慵,不近人情故也。然間遇一二J40nB494_p0605b30聲氣相合者,誓當以謙以讓以誠敬事之,而況古貌J40nB494_p0605c01古心有若大師者,又肯以世情常套往返屈杖履耶?J40nB494_p0605c02唯是薄祐菲躬,濫膺祖胄,雖朝乾夕惕,勉繼先規,而J40nB494_p0605c03究竟無補萬一者,多分以障緣重深,獅虫作祟,捫心J40nB494_p0605c04清夜,情何以堪?雖曰魔種孽族,在聖世亦有所不免,J40nB494_p0605c05第末流無識,專以成敗毀譽比量吾人,此昔人所以J40nB494_p0605c06稱天下得一人知己不恨也。頃接來教,感愧殊深,何J40nB494_p0605c07至人之舉止珍重也如此?何謙光遇物也又如此?藉J40nB494_p0605c08手奉復,遲當踵金蘭而聆教也。
