J39nB450_p0504b05敬羨鄉尊位居極品,家傳後裔,不以聲名自拘,焉得J39nB450_p0504b06燔柴所縛?雖然,致君澤民,海內無不稱善,如風清月J39nB450_p0504b07朗,天下莫不仰觀,以為不愧王師,此真七朝元老大J39nB450_p0504b08中正柱國也。致賀!致賀!然則夙有願力示現宰官,以J39nB450_p0504b09此深信法門,知有向上一著子事,所以本師破山老J39nB450_p0504b10人相見,用其棒喝交馳,必要居士頂門具眼、腦後見J39nB450_p0504b11腮,始知步步踏著實地、時時得見本來面目,與三世J39nB450_p0504b12諸佛同此一道、歷代聖賢具此一機。第不識近日果J39nB450_p0504b13有壁上高僧一呼便應、瓶中鵝子一喚便出者麼?若J39nB450_p0504b14有,是裴休、陸亙、張相國、無盡居士再來復吐一番辭J39nB450_p0504b15氣耶?故鄉情久欲親來問候,奈忠路覃宣慰念其山J39nB450_p0504b16林險阻、路道崎嶇,特具拙句二律、尺牘一封,遣門人J39nB450_p0504b17賚上居士喬梓笑覽,第不知可有舊日握手之興否?J39nB450_p0504b18若果然者,咫尺天山如面,則風月情懷不隔於絲毫J39nB450_p0504b19也。敢瀆清軒,煩裏不悉。此復。
答定川侯李栗陽居士
J39nB450_p0504b21奇才亞管仲,胸藏百萬雄兵;妙略孰子房,口吞五湖J39nB450_p0504b22風月。不惟威鎮三峽,而且恩布一川也。敬羨,敬羨!且J39nB450_p0504b23貧道久埋雲壑,處居山林,雖未面談快事,然則日聆J39nB450_p0504b24清顏,以軍務為佛事;尚訪高賢,於兵戈作本業。未慢J39nB450_p0504b25名士,誠志過之。王佐乃國朝之將相也,近聞吾師破J39nB450_p0504b26山老人經遊煙水,承愛駐以貴營,特稍寸楮,希鑒侯J39nB450_p0504b27門。望乞一墨之翰飛,以通四海之挂錫,不致玉石未J39nB450_p0504b28分,涇渭各別是幸。
復鳳衛侯牟章甫居士
J39nB450_p0504b30昨貴將官持書至山,開讀再四,見居士夙具上乘般J39nB450_p0504c01若靈根,深信宗風於法門也。然則法門不為不具最J39nB450_p0504c02上乘者說之,豈是小根小智所能擔荷?而於三家村J39nB450_p0504c03裏作癡呆模樣,以為千了百當,所以我先佛世尊在J39nB450_p0504c04日,種種訶叱,以為如稻麻竹葦充滿十方剎,此是一J39nB450_p0504c05番教誨也。而今時人不具擇法眼目,以木偶人者為J39nB450_p0504c06絕世忘情,殊不知打在沉潭死水無事甲裏矣。那是J39nB450_p0504c07學道人實為生死不明、關頭不破、疑情不決,而又不J39nB450_p0504c08肯親近大善知識,打徹膏肓之病。經中六祖有云:「離J39nB450_p0504c09道別覓道,終身不見道,波波度一生,到頭還自懊。」正J39nB450_p0504c10是點出學人之病痛也。然而真參實悟、真履實踐,貴J39nB450_p0504c11在深下疑情,此大疑中必有大悟,若不深下疑情,必J39nB450_p0504c12不有悟門也。然今時人多是以冊子上文字討箇分J39nB450_p0504c13曉,須是得便宜處失便宜也。所謂覽本似悟,過後還J39nB450_p0504c14迷,蓋謂入門一著不曾諦當也。故此本地風光不清J39nB450_p0504c15楚處、腳跟不穩當處、鼻孔不遼天處,蓋是工夫不到J39nB450_p0504c16不方圓也。而貧道苦口所說者,正欲居士頂門具眼,J39nB450_p0504c17勿受邪見,則不忘靈山會上先佛世尊付囑國王大J39nB450_p0504c18臣一段大事在今日也。然雖居士不忘,正因欲貧道J39nB450_p0504c19住此國興禪林打這番鼓笛,不推己欲利而利人、己J39nB450_p0504c20欲達而達人,此是居士一片聖賢心腸也。貧道目下J39nB450_p0504c21非為不赴來命,俟秋當合如願,倘有見地,不妨再商。J39nB450_p0504c22是復。
寄相國文鐵菴居士
J39nB450_p0504c24思唐重晤,又是一番奇特因緣也。貧道每無事時,想J39nB450_p0504c25這段因緣,自從上名儒家如裴休丞相及張無盡丞J39nB450_p0504c26相、居士等輩,以此事為實念,放下高官爵位、聲名擔J39nB450_p0504c27子,向此門留心參見一箇半箇善知識,痛為生死關J39nB450_p0504c28頭,急欲求向上鉗錘一擊擊碎,免得金枷玉鎖繫著J39nB450_p0504c29於身,便做不得撒手撒腳快活人矣。所以遍參諸方,J39nB450_p0504c30歷究此事,打徹這箇無始劫來習氣黑漆桶子,幸爾J39nB450_p0505a01徹底掀翻去,盡現業流識,如人萬里還家,便見元本J39nB450_p0505a02故物及親生父母,始知自己主人公有安身立命去J39nB450_p0505a03處,終不做伶俜途路中人辛苦狀也。幾欲想到此間,J39nB450_p0505a04不覺偶遇知己,談及宗門向上一事,如芥投鍼、如水J39nB450_p0505a05合乳。然則居士不以名位自尊、富貴自拘,而貧道纔J39nB450_p0505a06言當今之世,似居士官至宰相、位居極品,壽可如山、J39nB450_p0505a07福可如海,子孫滿眼、一門全盛,此大福慧之全人也。J39nB450_p0505a08如今正好幹這件大事,時時參究、刻刻提撕,把做一J39nB450_p0505a09件實事,如致君澤民心腸一樣,必要著實做去,方纔J39nB450_p0505a10有此地步占在萬人之上,爵可尊也、位可高也,自然J39nB450_p0505a11堂上一呼、庭下百諾,如大道之在目前,不費纖毫之J39nB450_p0505a12力,便是取之無盡、用之無窮,而為造物之無盡藏也,J39nB450_p0505a13方是到家之消息矣。若其不然,則貧道與居士兩地J39nB450_p0505a14奇逢,總是虛作人情,面則互相恭敬、不面則各自稱J39nB450_p0505a15尊,豈是道人之所為?必欲為人須為徹、窮源須到底,J39nB450_p0505a16方是大丈夫之所行持,不枉作相識一番,方纔是痛J39nB450_p0505a17心知已。將此大事如救頭然,只要信得及、作得主、把J39nB450_p0505a18得定,如靠一座須彌山相似,任是八面風來,吹一不J39nB450_p0505a19動、撼一不去,如在千人萬人之中,如無一人相似,方J39nB450_p0505a20是得力去處。到此地位,不可輕蔑於人,若有一念▆J39nB450_p0505a21動在心,便生我人眾生見者。何以故?如孔子道:「子絕J39nB450_p0505a22四:毋意、毋必、母固、毋我。」這便是孔子忘人我、滅影響J39nB450_p0505a23境界,出羅籠、脫窠臼之消息也,此是我釋迦老人之J39nB450_p0505a24大受用也。然即貧道故不當論,如公之聰明蓋世、學J39nB450_p0505a25識沖天,不比常人之世業也。蓋貧道之所說者,正是J39nB450_p0505a26與公千里奇逢,難得一遇也。而今士大夫非是不聰J39nB450_p0505a27明、不領略、不好此事者,只為理路多障、事路所蔽,故J39nB450_p0505a28不得自由自在,而返被之乎也者之所深障矣。只是J39nB450_p0505a29入門一步、下手一著,卒難得做工夫而擺脫不開者,J39nB450_p0505a30蓋謂學識知見之所固蔽也。若要放得下、做得去,須J39nB450_p0505b01要參箇話頭,或是萬法歸一、一歸何處?必時時提在J39nB450_p0505b02目前,朝也是箇疑團、暮也是箇疑團、行住坐臥也是J39nB450_p0505b03箇疑團、哀樂喜怒也是箇疑團,疑來疑去,疑到水窮J39nB450_p0505b04山盡處、轉得身來處,豁然築碎疑團,通身快活,全機J39nB450_p0505b05大用,始信不從人得,原來是我自己本有佳珍,大笑J39nB450_p0505b06一聲,可惜一向癡狂外走,枉受一生、馳騁四方了矣。J39nB450_p0505b07然雖居士不是這般見地,大率出乎其類、拔乎其萃,J39nB450_p0505b08不足與居士道也。俟再會時,莫道貧道不道,惟高明J39nB450_p0505b09鑑之。前承接貧道門人住院者,每不深感,謝謝。
復國公楊沅居士
J39nB450_p0505b11接手教,知居士以多生具金剛般若慧命為因,而得J39nB450_p0505b12最上根器為種,一會貧道之間如膠似漆、如龍得水,J39nB450_p0505b13更不周由者也。承諭靜室所云:此收拾之不難,在行J39nB450_p0505b14止之早決。讀至此,不覺發一笑聲,非笑居士之不高J39nB450_p0505b15明也,卻笑貧道之不任於保社也。若不任於保社,誠J39nB450_p0505b16恐辜負一片堅固善念;若欲任其保社,則常住之事J39nB450_p0505b17物一一必欲居士直下承當,而住持之道果不虛也。J39nB450_p0505b18故曰:住持要在得人,得人要在具眼。苟不具眼,則彼J39nB450_p0505b19此之心而無益於保社也。然今時人多以建叢林而J39nB450_p0505b20不具其眼目,但要是箇長老就是,勿論表裏相慎不J39nB450_p0505b21相慎、載道不載道,只圖大家往來有箇香火,而僧稱J39nB450_p0505b22王公大人為恩檀者,此皆是有道氣人也、無道氣人J39nB450_p0505b23也。若是具眼居士,誠然緇素必不取笑於大方也。然J39nB450_p0505b24大方之者,行事必合於古、發言必重於道,方是住持J39nB450_p0505b25之見識也。若或苟求名聞,如躄者命在杖,失杖則顛;J39nB450_p0505b26渡者命在舟,失舟則溺。不惟有益於法門,而且有玷J39nB450_p0505b27於佛祖也。然居士弘護法門,勁切之心不昧,靈山付J39nB450_p0505b28囑示現宰官為公為侯,而爵在人之上者,此居士不J39nB450_p0505b29被功名富貴之所籠絡也。貧道屢蒙見招,難推教命,J39nB450_p0505b30允悉不宣。此復。
寄御史鄭天虞居士
J39nB450_p0505c02昔在思唐時,每承護法對貧道所談者是佛法之理、J39nB450_p0505c03所講者皆聖賢之章,而終日不慮於世緣者也。如居J39nB450_p0505c04士之道學,博物不凡、窮理不俗,雖居宰官而無有宰J39nB450_p0505c05官之氣、雖住城郭而無城郭之聲,但心上所存者忠J39nB450_p0505c06孝,而面上所敬者高人,誠然白居易居士之再來應J39nB450_p0505c07身而撐持儒釋之大道也。喜慶!喜慶!然貧道近日所J39nB450_p0505c08喜者惟居士一人、所憂者惟居士一人,喜則喜其天J39nB450_p0505c09資卓越、才品當世,憂則憂其向上一著工夫難做,非J39nB450_p0505c10是居士力量之不加也。蓋謂理學難化,翳障於心便J39nB450_p0505c11擺不開,所以依他作解、塞自悟門,便不得脫灑灑地J39nB450_p0505c12無拘無束、活鱍鱍地自在自由,變大地作黃金、攪長J39nB450_p0505c13河為酥酪,而為出格明眼人也。如今請居士肯依貧J39nB450_p0505c14道數十年所做工夫方法,靜也還他一禪,動也還他J39nB450_p0505c15一禪,住也還他一禪,乃至一切善惡都莫思量,單單J39nB450_p0505c16提箇話頭,或是吾道一以貫之。畢竟以何為道?以何J39nB450_p0505c17為一?以何為貫?朝也頻頻覷著,暮也頻頻覷著,覷來J39nB450_p0505c18覷去,到下手不及處、工夫極則處、正在煩惱處、不得J39nB450_p0505c19大悟處,忽然覷破這些子吾道一以貫之,不在別處,J39nB450_p0505c20就在日用尋常中、穿衣喫飯中、官至尚書中、位在高J39nB450_p0505c21堂中,便是隨流任得性,無喜亦無憂。所謂傅大士有J39nB450_p0505c22云:「有物先天地,無形本寂寥,能為萬象主,不逐四時J39nB450_p0505c23凋。」到此這樣好受用、好風光,不妨再布施貧道些,以J39nB450_p0505c24見數十年以來道契一番而為大護法一番,是真語J39nB450_p0505c25者、是實語者,必不誑語也。自此,貧道再不敢以世俗J39nB450_p0505c26之態亂教老先生也。噫!真是出三界、越四生之榜樣,J39nB450_p0505c27特稍數為問,幸勿罪我。
復內翰劉文季居士
J39nB450_p0505c29讀來翰,無一字一句不是楞嚴血脈大全之旨。一門J39nB450_p0505c30深入妙莊嚴,彈指超無學之地者,內翰有也。且《楞嚴》J39nB450_p0506a01乃三世諸佛之慧命,歷代祖師之關鍵,一切菩薩之J39nB450_p0506a02要路,三界天人之眼目也。而今諸家講者,尚未得於J39nB450_p0506a03楞嚴之骨髓,往往不過尋行數墨,攀枝摘葉,而不悟J39nB450_p0506a04根源者,此皆是人之大病。貧道幾欲奉箇捷徑醫方,J39nB450_p0506a05便道:「懷州牛喫禾,益州馬腹脹,天下覓醫人,炙豬左J39nB450_p0506a06膞上。」若是有血性男子,聞其此方,用其湯藥而煎煮J39nB450_p0506a07服之,無病不瘥,無方不效也。今時人俗物不化者,多J39nB450_p0506a08喜老先生稱之,而復有載道之器者,最喜居士好之,J39nB450_p0506a09此是世出世間一等清高眼界也。然而內翰之別號J39nB450_p0506a10醉和尚者,又是一等格外奇特人也。且二乘聲聞小J39nB450_p0506a11果之人,一飲菩提酒醉,尚經八萬塵劫而不能醒,何J39nB450_p0506a12況外道之流而更不能醒也?此是禪中之病也,是病J39nB450_p0506a13中之禪也,是葛藤窩絆倒而無出身之路,不到家鄉J39nB450_p0506a14地矣。今貧道以別是一番斬新日月、特地乾坤眼目J39nB450_p0506a15視內翰於大方之上也,久欲奉送松蘿茶來與內翰J39nB450_p0506a16飲,誠恐是美味不中飽人喫也,而又欲奉蒙山頂上J39nB450_p0506a17茶來喫,誠恐又是貧道私人情也,不若奉些趙州茶J39nB450_p0506a18來作解酒渴,而作一箇醒和尚也。然則和尚一醒,頂J39nB450_p0506a19門自然眼開,必道舉世皆醉而我獨醒,舉世皆濁而J39nB450_p0506a20我獨清,不獨《楞嚴》一部全旨,就是三藏十二部一切J39nB450_p0506a21修多羅,在於內翰一毫頭上轉大法輪,一毛孔中而J39nB450_p0506a22現寶王剎土,則不枉貧道為世外相親之骨肉也。特J39nB450_p0506a23復。
寄大錯禪師
J39nB450_p0506a25今禪師既不愛功名富貴,不受世之塵網者,是之不J39nB450_p0506a26錯也。既而下髮為世外之高人,以青山作伴,綠水為J39nB450_p0506a27鄰,木石為居,鹿豕同遊,而悠悠風月,任樂天真,處處J39nB450_p0506a28春花,而為詩料,喜時歌作天地無窮之生意,悶時飲J39nB450_p0506a29為宇宙格外之賢人,真乃天子不得而臣,王侯不得J39nB450_p0506a30而友。此禪師別具一番眼界,有何錯也?然而所錯者,J39nB450_p0506b01想是曠大劫來一箇路頭,不因一念萌動,來為儒家J39nB450_p0506b02做箇書債人物。今爾官至中丞,而書債酬矣。今欲思J39nB450_p0506b03其舊時本來面目,原是靈山種子,何故還做這頂紗J39nB450_p0506b04帽頭氣?一旦奮發勇猛,而欲披緇於深山窮谷之中,J39nB450_p0506b05是不錯也。今禪師何故言其大錯者?莫不是一腔熱J39nB450_p0506b06血未曾冷,忠肝義膽而欲上報
J39nB450_p0506b07天子恩渥者,不是錯也。莫不是一箇老萊子,未曾學J39nB450_p0506b08得劬勞罔極,而欲中酬父母深恩者,是不錯也。今禪J39nB450_p0506b09師以不報之報、不酬之酬而出家者,是一萬幸也,是J39nB450_p0506b10大忠孝人也,何曰言錯?若不錯,請禪師於威音那畔J39nB450_p0506b11著眼,今世門頭下腳,看他三世諸佛從何所得,六代J39nB450_p0506b12祖師從何所悟,方不負禪師來空門走這一回,與佛J39nB450_p0506b13家又增一重光彩,是禪師現宰官身,而不忘釋迦老J39nB450_p0506b14人之所密囑也。方纔有者一番手段,曰大錯不錯也。J39nB450_p0506b15此瀆。
復方伯段見愚居士
J39nB450_p0506b17居士昔在京都作大金吾時,盛傳於海內。至於歸家,J39nB450_p0506b18修建石寶山道場,善名甲於天下。想欲處陰以息,技J39nB450_p0506b19冠於林下,以為終身逸老之計。不意J39nB450_p0506b20朝廷搜訪人才,而韜光不住,所以挺身出來,任事於J39nB450_p0506b21思石地方而為憲副,此思石等士民之有望也。始當J39nB450_p0506b22時,貧道渡江一晤居士,多承弘護,供給大眾,而善念J39nB450_p0506b23愈堅愈固,此難得也。然而居士心者,又欲苦接貧道J39nB450_p0506b24往滇,以開選佛法社,而欲利於四來,以成千百世人J39nB450_p0506b25天之眼目,方不負一片苦心也。貧道不在言而允之,J39nB450_p0506b26遂不得深居而野處,升高而望遠,坐茂樹以終日,翫J39nB450_p0506b27清泉以自潔,而完老於是處也。一則吾祖迦葉聖蹟J39nB450_p0506b28在彼,久欲一往,不期若合符契,以便乘風挂帆,而船J39nB450_p0506b29來陸來,長共聚首,笑指庭前柏樹子也,無奈楊上公J39nB450_p0506b30切去。不識居士近日果有新題目乎?若有,則德山棒J39nB450_p0506c01如雨點,臨濟喝似雷奔,還動著向上關捩也未?若也J39nB450_p0506c02動著,亦不瞎卻諸聖眼,亦未啞卻老僧口,何必日午J39nB450_p0506c03打三更而面南看北斗矣?說到此間,居士猶有疑情J39nB450_p0506c04也無?若無疑情,萬里不挂片雲,青天也須喫棒。致復。
寄方伯孫蒨溪居士
J39nB450_p0506c06兩載暌違,刻刻遙慕,幾欲遣人雁候,奈何關山梗絕,J39nB450_p0506c07道路不通,想居士諒於言外可也。至於佳序,而見者J39nB450_p0506c08聞者無不羨甚,非法門之幸慶,皆居士之慶幸也。何J39nB450_p0506c09也?如裴休丞相居士,雖醉心於祖道,其作《圓覺了義J39nB450_p0506c10經.序》,猶落如來葛藤見解,未能盡禪家之妙,而不及J39nB450_p0506c11居士斬關直截,剖出臨濟心髓,可謂高出古人一頭J39nB450_p0506c12地也。賀甚!賀甚!今歲三月春,阡陽兵變,而敝檀越楊J39nB450_p0506c13爵臺已仙遊矣,貧道不勝悵然。復於冬月中,而門人J39nB450_p0506c14接過遵義花梵虎丘,忽得侍御陳居士進謁行在,特J39nB450_p0506c15修尺牘恭賀。倘便借重擲一音來,以易舊銜,令千百J39nB450_p0506c16世之下,得見居士手眼,與法門更添一重光彩也。不J39nB450_p0506c17然,則貧道與居士咫尺天涯之隔耳。臨楮依依,餘懷J39nB450_p0506c18不悉。
答川東道田雲冶居士
J39nB450_p0506c20曩年酉司一晤,甚覺三生奇緣也。而抵掌談心之問,J39nB450_p0506c21不下富彥國丞相居士之根器,方纔信此禪門向上J39nB450_p0506c22一著,真是不忘靈鷲願力,示現宰官之身,而光顯兩J39nB450_p0506c23教者也。多承盛惠供給,兼助護身符子,屢歲仗庇清J39nB450_p0506c24安,至今感抱之念尚未泯矣。自別後,幾欲遣人修候,J39nB450_p0506c25每聆台臺不一,以此疏闊之罪多也。旅歲門人接至J39nB450_p0506c26貴地方天旺里靜室,權為過節,忽得廠官杜占春言J39nB450_p0506c27及所以,方知疾欲親自奉賀,以至臘盡年窮,不果願J39nB450_p0506c28矣。特具尺牘,幸炤不宣。候回音之日,即當面敘。
復兵備道譚懷省居士附來書
J39nB450_p0506c30泰運新春,未睹曇花開處,殊為悵然。舊歲阡陽J39nB450_p0507a01之變次日,不佞即遣人奉候禪蹤。及來人抵城,J39nB450_p0507a02而和尚已他往之矣,迄今竟不聞祗園又在何J39nB450_p0507a03處。適有貴門弟子無盡諸人致言相托,云議玉J39nB450_p0507a04琮特請法駕至思唐設教。其時閤府之士紳街J39nB450_p0507a05民所說亦然,但恐和尚不輕飛錫,以余與和尚J39nB450_p0507a06有骨肉至誼,故求字先容。想西方聖人度人之J39nB450_p0507a07法,亦不過誠求即應,況舊遊之地,門內之僧萬J39nB450_p0507a08有不欣參者。拈花微笑,余日望之。
J39nB450_p0507a09自思唐分袂後,往往多承書問,兼以人來親炙,何以J39nB450_p0507a10敢當厚愛也?貧道乃填溝塞壑之人、土面灰頭之衲,J39nB450_p0507a11不堪與居士認為梓里,而打鄉談之話恐瀆方面,是J39nB450_p0507a12以年來抱愧感有日也。客歲無盡禪人至阡陽,每每J39nB450_p0507a13問及日常多福、行坐安樂,貧道恨不至思唐與居士J39nB450_p0507a14一面,併士大夫君子共道本分家風,而言性命關頭J39nB450_p0507a15一著子也。剛要收拾行李,忽報楊上公歸家,只得緩J39nB450_p0507a16遲數期,先發無盡前來,不料禍起不測,正謂蕭翼逢J39nB450_p0507a17辨才而智過仁人君子矣。而貧道無他別計,穩坐蒲J39nB450_p0507a18團,默默自若,心安神定,已見數十年苦參禪力稍有J39nB450_p0507a19一線之靈應也,而往來加害之狀幸不能侵,此是護J39nB450_p0507a20法神暗助一臂之力,又仗居士之福庇也。因此脫危J39nB450_p0507a21難,五鼓方出城塹,真是通身不挂一絲,方見一寒徹J39nB450_p0507a22骨,最快活處而為物外逍遙、灑灑落落鐵漢子也。只J39nB450_p0507a23是胸中所放不下者,楊上公知己逝矣,安得不悵然J39nB450_p0507a24哉?至於牛山之寓,每問居士佳音,並無一箇人往,而J39nB450_p0507a25山寂寂兮沒言宣、人寥寥兮對誰傳?惟有清風明月J39nB450_p0507a26堪在面,第不知居士當日好文章、好題目,還記得樂J39nB450_p0507a27山樂水者乎?客秋門人接出夜郎,今歲偶見雲翰忽J39nB450_p0507a28爾飛來,手捧誦過,足知居士與思唐當道尊貴諸翁J39nB450_p0507a29人等弘護法門,酷愛於我果不淺也。幸欲插翅而來,J39nB450_p0507a30領此高談,以快予心,共打口鼓子禪,而同胡鄂國、楊J39nB450_p0507b01大年、秦少游一夥人物而上傳燈也。雖然,貧道與居J39nB450_p0507b02士所言者,須是同條而生,誠恐不同條而死。若欲同J39nB450_p0507b03條而死,可以每日靜坐,死下心來,看這一平生盡力J39nB450_p0507b04讀孔孟之書、窮理盡性是甚麼人操持,而自遊泮之J39nB450_p0507b05後,名重高魁,官至憲副,富也貴也。幸得子孫滿門,家J39nB450_p0507b06道昌隆,正好做些工夫,將父母未生前面目看是何J39nB450_p0507b07物,朝夕參究,舉止作疑。所謂疑以信為主,悟以醒為J39nB450_p0507b08則,到此方知人人心裏有堯舜,箇箇性中有仲尼。同J39nB450_p0507b09我黃面老子道:「佛身充滿於法界,普現一切群生前,J39nB450_p0507b10隨緣赴感靡不週,而恒處此菩提座。」不妨為官為佛J39nB450_p0507b11都有這箇消息,而人不信向此,便是只為分明及返J39nB450_p0507b12令所得遲而作面墻難矣。況此時鶴髮童顏,壽命堅J39nB450_p0507b13固,正好幹此出世一件快事,不往與貧道作鄉情骨J39nB450_p0507b14肉愛也不是。居士無有紗帽頭氣,安得冒瀆尊威,同J39nB450_p0507b15目面語?道也不識尊裁,何以見教?倘貴地方金剛堅J39nB450_p0507b16利,般若重開,貧道再來共作一團香火,大家聚首,豈J39nB450_p0507b17不快哉?謹此奉復,幸恕不贅。
復開州刺史李期生居士附來書
J39nB450_p0507b19久仰道德崇高,竊自憾世緣牽纏,未獲瞻叩大J39nB450_p0507b20事。茲承老人不棄愚鈍,遠惠法錄,讀之如日,忽J39nB450_p0507b21睹得未曾有,唯有焚香頂禮已耳。謝謝。宗弟得J39nB450_p0507b22接高足,擔荷老人驢年擔子,異日不肖有緣,親J39nB450_p0507b23受煆煉,請依裴、張先輩執弟子禮,何如?鄙句斗J39nB450_p0507b24膽書箑呈教,不能管窺大方,幸削之。外具薄資J39nB450_p0507b25一函,聊充紙筆之用。所悵無物供養,祈笑留為J39nB450_p0507b26禱。不盡。
J39nB450_p0507b27昨承翰玉,讀之再三,真不忘靈山願力,示現宰官身J39nB450_p0507b28也。然此一件大事,能有幾人向蒲團上留心?歷歷究J39nB450_p0507b29明,超然獨醒者,惟居士不下大唐一夥人也。敬羨!敬J39nB450_p0507b30羨!且來翰言塵緣牽絆,殊不知還有箇離塵緣人也。J39nB450_p0507c01如此看來,卻成兩箇,豈居士之外猶有居士也?大約J39nB450_p0507c02會得過來,如蓮花處淤泥而不染、明珠投濁水而常J39nB450_p0507c03清,即是居士不脩滅靜定而現諸威儀、不捨凡夫法J39nB450_p0507c04而起殊勝行,為最上乘之根器也。正合馮楫居士有J39nB450_p0507c05云:「公事之餘喜坐禪,未曾將脅到床眠。雖然示現宰官J39nB450_p0507c06像,長老之名天下傳。」此是居士一夥在家人幹出家J39nB450_p0507c07人事業也。居士乃一榜才人,見在五馬候,惟廉清正,J39nB450_p0507c08撫恤庶民,就是沒塵緣處面,靈光獨耀,迥脫根塵耳。J39nB450_p0507c09而時人都稱李菩薩,正是做官即是做佛耶?而愛民J39nB450_p0507c10即是愛道也。然而付囑之心,只要居士自肯,何必貧J39nB450_p0507c11道肯之?居士果有自肯之心,而令弟天湖擔荷驢年J39nB450_p0507c12擔子,想是銅頭鐵額全在我山中,方纔與居士為親J39nB450_p0507c13骨肉之肝膽弟兄,老僧正脈也怡然不盡,是復。
行實
J39nB450_p0507c22師一日端坐丈室,微雪率眾禮師,請垂示行腳因緣。J39nB450_p0507c23師展足示云:「會麼?」雪云:「不會。」師云:「此事不假外求,原J39nB450_p0507c24自己有,只因當人不會,所以覿面錯過,故有四聖六J39nB450_p0507c25凡分別之說,究竟回頭轉腦,蓋未達諸佛之心印也。J39nB450_p0507c26汝何不向山僧腳跟下薦取?方知山僧一片真心為J39nB450_p0507c27汝等舉示了矣。然雖如是,山僧若不葛藤一番,猶恐J39nB450_p0507c28諸人不知。山僧亦非別布政人,乃是本省潼川州王J39nB450_p0507c29氏子,每日思念無常、苦、空,自覺虛度光陰二十有五,J39nB450_p0507c30意欲決志離塵,奈何椿萱宗族不許,千般伎倆設盡,J39nB450_p0508a01不能得脫,只得終日悶抱於懷,更無有一條脫身之J39nB450_p0508a02路。忽一日,省一個方法,執一把剪刀,將欲去髮,而親J39nB450_p0508a03族難勉,所以得脫樊籠,遂依本境禮鑑空師薙染。第J39nB450_p0508a04不知工夫從何而做?話頭從何而參?每每硬硬於胸,J39nB450_p0508a05猶如有氣死人相似。偶一朝看《心經》,至五蘊皆空,度J39nB450_p0508a06一切苦厄,忽然疑情觸發:如何得恁麼空去?不被生J39nB450_p0508a07死苦惱之所籠罩矣。午時疑起,疑到更深,行來行去,J39nB450_p0508a08忽覺我身我心不見一物,誰受苦厄?正疑間,有僧云:J39nB450_p0508a09『睡去。』夜至更深,纔然轉身上樓,不覺天已將曉,僧云:J39nB450_p0508a10『為何不睡?』余云:『觀音菩薩今夜大有事在。』僧云:『且上J39nB450_p0508a11單去。』次日,閱《楞嚴經》,方知塵勞暫歇,惟識光現前,若J39nB450_p0508a12不是工夫逼迫,焉能有此光景?縱得一音之妙,不可J39nB450_p0508a13得少為足。自此工夫轉加愈密,疑情轉加更切。一日,J39nB450_p0508a14行至鄰陽,遇覺安法師,談及宗門中事,余不覺失聲J39nB450_p0508a15云:『法師以何為宗?』覺揚眉瞬目答之。余云:『此正是地J39nB450_p0508a16水火風妄緣所轉,不知真宗在甚麼處?』覺擬議,余一J39nB450_p0508a17喝便行。自爾入中城山閱藏,未及五載將完,仍過墊J39nB450_p0508a18江,時值眾善人留著,但朝夕間工夫未嘗間斷。忽一J39nB450_p0508a19日,披憨山大師方便語,至狗子無佛性話,更加深疑,J39nB450_p0508a20轉見愚癡無有一毫透漏,始知從前所得卻是途中J39nB450_p0508a21受用,若欲到家,必是大徹一番方可。從此欲往終南J39nB450_p0508a22住靜,剛至梁邑,又被爾輩強過忠州誅茆。結搆之間,J39nB450_p0508a23忽有一僧來云:『梁山出一大善知識,上破下山和尚J39nB450_p0508a24真是人天眼目。』余云:『有何言句?』其僧竟不能答。余叱J39nB450_p0508a25云:『若將耳聽終難會,眼底聞聲始自知。』後過沙家場,J39nB450_p0508a26涂門留止,至新歲正初癸酉年也。正敘時,獲一居士J39nB450_p0508a27宋高宇來云:『梁山和尚開堂說法,如雷若電。』余云:『居J39nB450_p0508a28士得何章句?』士遞出東塔語錄。余觀一兩篇,額云:『真J39nB450_p0508a29是箇作家宗師。』遂寫啟遣人先去,次期與張善人同J39nB450_p0508a30往親師,師示以狗子無佛性話,頗有入處。受具畢,辭J39nB450_p0508b01師起身,師仍賜語錄三卷,送出山門。余禮謝,復歸張J39nB450_p0508b02家庵。至第三夜,偶經行次,湛持禪人擊動鐘板,不覺J39nB450_p0508b03渾身跳起,如虛空墜地,星斗下天,㘞地一聲,如桶箍J39nB450_p0508b04子爆斷,方徹七通八達,八面玲瓏,一似遠客還鄉,貧J39nB450_p0508b05人得寶。雖然如是,更不作希有之想。何故?悟了還同J39nB450_p0508b06未悟時,依然只是舊時人,不是舊時行履處,更無玄J39nB450_p0508b07妙可呈君。忽湛持長老問云:『是甚麼境界也要令學J39nB450_p0508b08人得知?』余劈面一掌云:『自此不疑天下老和尚舌頭。』J39nB450_p0508b09湛持禮拜,余云:『珍重!珍重!』此時余欲往西山隱居,纔J39nB450_p0508b10過墊江,被一夥鐵面皮居士區區留住,余云:『長安雖J39nB450_p0508b11樂,不是久居。』後送雙峰閱藏畢,仍過獅子洞住靜,不J39nB450_p0508b12料被爾等再三請出,復見萬峰老人,老人不覺笑云:J39nB450_p0508b13『恭喜大事了畢。』余云:『莫污人好。』師云:『莫得自謾。』師於J39nB450_p0508b14下午召至方丈,遂舉:『俱胝一指頭禪有許多淆訛。』余J39nB450_p0508b15云:『和尚切莫賺殺人。』師云:『為甚麼取了侍者指頭?』余J39nB450_p0508b16云:『這裏描模畫樣不得。』師云:『深知你得這箇消息。』余J39nB450_p0508b17云:『和尚莫將第二杓惡水潑人。』師良久云:『你到善弄J39nB450_p0508b18爪牙。』余云:『也是冷酒謾發。』師云:『我到不檢點你,你到J39nB450_p0508b19檢點我。』余云:『當仁不讓。』師云:『請歸寮去。』次日上堂,余J39nB450_p0508b20出問云:『寶劍拂開天地靜,金刀纔舉斗牛寒,意旨如J39nB450_p0508b21何?』師云:『禍事!禍事!』余云:『恁麼則磧裏征人三十萬,一J39nB450_p0508b22時回首月中看。』師云:『遼天赫奕。』余云:『可見萬邦有道J39nB450_p0508b23歸皇化,一亙無私賀太平。』師便打,余拂袖歸眾,仍住J39nB450_p0508b24月餘,辭歸墊邑。語齋李春元請往馬鞍山休夏,至秋J39nB450_p0508b25仍復玉屏。有僧惺拙云:『大師何不將古人公案頌幾J39nB450_p0508b26則呈上萬峰老人看?』余云:『奈不曾蓄紙筆。』惺拙取紙J39nB450_p0508b27筆呈余,余即頌頌古數則。十月間,方上萬峰見師,次J39nB450_p0508b28呈頌上,師閱師目數篇,令侍者收入方丈,待看交還,J39nB450_p0508b29余應諾歸堂。次日,命余充西堂,有登伯馮文學辦齋,J39nB450_p0508b30請師上堂,眾推余出問話,余遂出問云:『天下有道則J39nB450_p0508c01見,無道則隱。無道則隱即不問,如何是天下有道則J39nB450_p0508c02見?』師云:『四海五湖王化裏。』余云:『三千禮樂憑師舉,五J39nB450_p0508c03百英雄更讓誰?』師以拄杖卓一下,余云:『也要慣從五J39nB450_p0508c04鳳樓前過,手握金鞭賀太平。』師云:『徒來念詩篇。』余拂J39nB450_p0508c05袖歸眾。是晚,師在丈室與余正喫茶間,師以手遞果J39nB450_p0508c06子欲縮,余連盤掇過云:『這箇便是大機大用。』師大笑J39nB450_p0508c07云:『你們這等利害。』余云:『正要奪虎口之食。』後解制歸J39nB450_p0508c08山,至秋,忽聞江安接師主期,余去與師送行,師云:『何J39nB450_p0508c09不同到川南一往?』余拜辭,師再三欲余同行。時到蟠J39nB450_p0508c10龍,結制仍安西堂,解制仍歸舊處。至新歲,過川北與J39nB450_p0508c11師祝壽,具香一封,師云:『莫得觸著山僧鼻孔。』余云:『觸J39nB450_p0508c12碎了也。』師云:『忤逆兒孫。』余云:『莫怪渠儂多意氣,他家J39nB450_p0508c13曾踏上頭關。』師云:『是那箇?』余震威一喝,師云:『嚇殺人。』J39nB450_p0508c14余又一喝,師也一喝,余云:『賊!賊!』師遂歸方丈。次日陞J39nB450_p0508c15座,將源流杖拂付云:『從上佛祖命脈,汝當善自護持,J39nB450_p0508c16宜當保重此囑。』第是山僧這番醜拙,不過是與萬峰J39nB450_p0508c17老人相見機緣,其經歷風霜,參請之勞不盡繁衍。久J39nB450_p0508c18立眾慈,伏惟珍重。」微雪,學徒同眾禮拜而退。
J39nB450_p0508c19師一日喚侍者傳監院設供,嗣法門人道廓領眾寢J39nB450_p0508c20堂上供。拈香禮畢,師云:「老僧報緣已謝,今與眾別,汝J39nB450_p0508c21等不可向士大夫處索取塔銘,竊彰名位,各宜珍重J39nB450_p0508c22諦聽。偈云:我為法王,於法自在。來去自由,縱橫無礙。」J39nB450_p0508c23跏趺而逝,春秋七十,夏臘四十五。於J39nB450_p0508c24康熙歲次壬子十一月初三日亥時示寂,塔建慈雲J39nB450_p0508c25本山。
