J37nB388_p0500a04戊辰冬,眾請陞座,師云:「山僧道德荒涼,有玷師位,三J37nB388_p0500a05會之語,諸子竊編為十卷,不幸又災梨矣。昨先、權二J37nB388_p0500a06子入室請曰:『和尚行道多年,歷遷名剎,語錄流布諸J37nB388_p0500a07方,業已膾炙人口,但先等未聞和尚行實之由,是為J37nB388_p0500a08闕典,他時後日,先等寧辭不請之罪乎?』予笑曰:『汝等J37nB388_p0500a09是何心行,裨販我耶?山僧行既虧矣,實則何堪掛齒?』J37nB388_p0500a10二人謹退,復商同兩序大眾設辦茶筵,懇之至再。予J37nB388_p0500a11揣自來敗露又多,既辱敦逼,只可家醜略揚一二,幸J37nB388_p0500a12諸兄弟包含,勿使外人知之可也。山僧乃浙江紹興J37nB388_p0500a13府會稽縣錢氏子,其先為吳越國氏之苗裔,祖源世J37nB388_p0500a14系,忠厚傳家。先君諱繼美,性純謹,不事冠巾,嘗奉佛J37nB388_p0500a15樂善,自稱逸民。年三十七無子,默禱於潮音大士,母J37nB388_p0500a16陳氏夢感天台僧投室,覺而有娠,月足,生於明季崇J37nB388_p0500a17禎七年甲戌歲四月二十七申時也。自出洗盆,輒雙J37nB388_p0500a18目緊閉,經四十日。先君與母氏嘗泣對神明曰:『何罪J37nB388_p0500a19所致,誕此盲兒?』一日,有異僧托缽到門,言其所以,僧J37nB388_p0500a20曰:『如我解此意者,此兒淨眼暫不耐見穢耳,當有慧J37nB388_p0500a21眼開時,未可以肉眼為慮也。』先君喜,命饌飯供之而J37nB388_p0500a22去。未幾,予眼忽開,父曰:『兒眼獲明,又遇高人接談,何J37nB388_p0500a23幸如之?』予嬰兒時,性平靜,乳餔間,母不甚煩累。歲餘,J37nB388_p0500a24聞父誦經,喜靜聽,凡見僧,輒合掌稱南無二字。長為J37nB388_p0500a25童,常隨父入寺,見僧著袈裟衣禮誦行道,歸則脫自J37nB388_p0500a26裙搭左肩上,合掌效之。老幼見者皆鄙笑,予恬然自J37nB388_p0500a27若,殊無赧色。一日,予獨自入寺,於山門拾得一朱漆J37nB388_p0500a28小牌,縱廣約三寸許,上有金字偈四句。偈曰:『一缽千J37nB388_p0500a29家飯,孤身萬里遊。要知生死路,隨緣度春秋。』兒童氣J37nB388_p0500a30局,雖不識字,以為寶玩美物,或玩指掌,或藏懷袖。持J37nB388_p0500b01歸,祖母見,即索閱之。祖母知文,閱偈已,即潸然墮淚,J37nB388_p0500b02謂吾母曰:『何物匪類,賺此兒耶?』嘆曰:『此迨非宗祧子J37nB388_p0500b03也。』遂投牌於火,子即倒地,嗥泣不已。祖母憐之,取一J37nB388_p0500b04銀錢與予曰:『此可買果喫,何用那蟲毒蛇毒害人之J37nB388_p0500b05物耶?』予雖受其哄駭,終戀慕之,豈非當時天假示予J37nB388_p0500b06披緇之兆歟?嘗從祖遊,薄宦於滇楚間,遂僑寓湖湘J37nB388_p0500b07焉。年六歲,入鄉校,先生授以書史,輒易背誦。遇外祖J37nB388_p0500b08喪,營葬事畢,予曰:『孔孟之學,齊家治國,博一功名而J37nB388_p0500b09已,安得長生不死之術乎?』俄國有甲申之變,四方擾J37nB388_p0500b10動,居不遑處,先君抱病不起,喪於亂世。三年之喪畢,J37nB388_p0500b11予便零丁孤苦,遂廢學。母因舅氏接於任所,予曰:『大J37nB388_p0500b12丈夫碌碌聲利,唐喪光陰,何日是了?』卒不隨行。常尋J37nB388_p0500b13良友,歌詠道情曲調,慕出世因。此時苦無善友指引,J37nB388_p0500b14遂為浪蕩散人。年二十有二,傳聞慧山和尚旺化大J37nB388_p0500b15溈,曰:『此吾歸仗處也。』即跋踄到山。溈問曰:『少年來此J37nB388_p0500b16何為?』予曰:『生死事大,願求度脫。』溈曰:『我者裏苦行生J37nB388_p0500b17涯,不著書生驕態之氣。』予曰:『願從慈訓。』溈曰:『著槽廠J37nB388_p0500b18去。』遂求披剃。嘗慕六祖之風,願入碓房負舂。閱四月J37nB388_p0500b19圓具後,入僧堂,誓明生死大事。溈命看萬法歸一,一J37nB388_p0500b20歸何處。予在堂中,隨眾經行坐臥,如龍得水,甚為快J37nB388_p0500b21意。夜,眾放參後,與同志七八輩排遣至三更、或四更、J37nB388_p0500b22或五更、或有夜被竟忘展,率以為常,工夫無分曉處。J37nB388_p0500b23上方丈請益,溈舉:『僧問趙州:「萬法歸一,一歸何處?」州J37nB388_p0500b24云:「老僧在青州做領布衫,重七斤。」會得者個意,許你J37nB388_p0500b25有入處。』予退思曰:『七斤布衫與一歸何處?是何道理?』J37nB388_p0500b26晝夜提撕,夜昏沉重時,乘月到窯上搬磚一轉,再上J37nB388_p0500b27蒲團,力為體究。一日,溈垂問云:『天地未分時,靈機電J37nB388_p0500b28光在甚麼處?』出水牌命眾下語,眾著語畢,予亦隨下J37nB388_p0500b29語云:『遍界不曾藏。』悅眾在傍云:『既是天地未分,有甚J37nB388_p0500b30遍界?』予曰:『既無遍界,誰知天地未分?』互相杜撰不已,J37nB388_p0500c01同眾到方丈呈語。溈閱畢,曰:『總是意識邊鼓粥飯氣,J37nB388_p0500c02禪未夢見在。』如是湊泊不得,久無入頭,遂興遍參之J37nB388_p0500c03念,束裝辭行。首謁醴陵雲巖,此老肅眾嚴密,惜其為J37nB388_p0500c04人下刃不緊,遂辭去。次參石霜爾瞻和尚,纔禮拜,霜J37nB388_p0500c05問云:『因我得禮你,你作麼生會?』予曰:『禮拜和尚不為J37nB388_p0500c06分外。』霜曰:『俊哉禪和!猶挂脣齒在。』予曰:『和尚不可壓J37nB388_p0500c07良為賤。』霜微笑曰:『且坐喫茶。』掛搭後,入室請益工夫,J37nB388_p0500c08霜曰:『你在溈山有何言句?』予曰:『和尚命看萬法歸一,J37nB388_p0500c09一歸何處?』霜曰:『我者裏則不然。』予曰:『和尚如何?』霜云:J37nB388_p0500c10『我者裏一歸萬法。』予曰:『未審萬法歸一,一歸萬法,是J37nB388_p0500c11一?是二?』霜劈脊便棒,云:『且道是一?是二?』予罔措其旨。J37nB388_p0500c12慚愧,諸兄弟!知識如此相為,直切提持,當時其奈鈍J37nB388_p0500c13根不薦,無怪今時初參者鈍置,山僧也曾恁麼來。雖J37nB388_p0500c14不領會,而且自強不息,晝夜推窮,無暫時放捨,憤恨J37nB388_p0500c15不已,因循歲月,無所入作,曰:『予因緣不在此乎?』遂結J37nB388_p0500c16伴過江西,遊百丈、洞山、寶峰、雲居,尋思當時馬祖法J37nB388_p0500c17中之王,為江西法窟,天下宗仰,直下百丈得大機,黃J37nB388_p0500c18檗得大用。予雖生不逢時,且幸獲瞻禮靈塔焉;雲居J37nB388_p0500c19一粥之緣,幸得掛搭焉。歷過數叢林,其奈馳求心不J37nB388_p0500c20歇,所見知識挑剔處,如瓜園選瓜相似,空遭岐路使J37nB388_p0500c21卻也。慕廬山勝概,即到開先,以途中工夫散逸不純,J37nB388_p0500c22復收攝身心,重新整頓話頭,提得現前。因上黃巖觀J37nB388_p0500c23瀑布,見百千尺飛泉從空墮下,不覺毛骨聳然,便會J37nB388_p0500c24得青州布衫、趙州答話之意,心意快然。遇雪嶠大師J37nB388_p0500c25高弟石濤和尚住開先,垂問云:『曹源一脈,源遠流長,J37nB388_p0500c26因甚瀑布斷流?』予應聲曰:『且喜某甲親到開先。』濤曰:J37nB388_p0500c27『甚處見神見鬼來?』予曰:『開先門下。』濤曰:『脫空妄語漢。』J37nB388_p0500c28便打。予接住拄杖,一送而退,遂留七佛樓度夏。因閱J37nB388_p0500c29《傳燈》至玄沙章,云:『直得如澄潭月影,靜夜鐘聲,隨扣J37nB388_p0500c30擊以無虧,觸波瀾而不散,猶是生死岸頭事。只饒忘J37nB388_p0501a01知于覺,覺即佛性矣。喚作了事人,更須知有向上全J37nB388_p0501a02提始得。』便撫卷負慚曰:『若如是,工夫大約未在。』自此J37nB388_p0501a03不敢言會禪矣。復自策勵推究。夏畢,登九華,禮地藏J37nB388_p0501a04聖蹟。入浙中,路途疲困,又用心過甚,而身體失調,以J37nB388_p0501a05飲食不時,寒暑未均之間,遂染沉痾痢疾。至湖州長J37nB388_p0501a06興縣,病沉重矣。晝夜行瀉六十餘次,九死一生,命在J37nB388_p0501a07旦夕。對主事僧,將隨身衣缽托以薪水之助,即冥心J37nB388_p0501a08立誓於佛祖曰:『此生無緣,參禪不遂,至此而已。倘蒙J37nB388_p0501a09加被,不昧正因,再來參罷。』即撿點此身,乃四大合成,J37nB388_p0501a10病從何受?本有靈光,何嘗痛癢?咬定牙關,隱忍一坐。J37nB388_p0501a11至五鼓,病覺漸退,慰曰:『此生尚有參禪分乎?』又喜做J37nB388_p0501a12得病中工夫,調養二十餘日,將健粥飯,即上報恩見J37nB388_p0501a13玉林和尚。此老門庭孤峻,規矩嚴難,予身體尚未復J37nB388_p0501a14元,難受曲折,遂散誕無意緒。到嘉禾,參古南牧雲和J37nB388_p0501a15尚。此老晚年無佛法,身心不事事,樂於山水吟詠。嘗J37nB388_p0501a16在九峰、三泖、太湖之間,學者求其與眉毛撕結,受鉗J37nB388_p0501a17鎚甚罕。聞弘覺師翁住金粟,湖海衲子雲臻水赴,予J37nB388_p0501a18隨列而往。洎到彼,見其叢林整肅,安眾有方,一時麟J37nB388_p0501a19角鳳毛,不一而足,庠序進止,一準百丈清規住持。予J37nB388_p0501a20曰:『如此叢林,如此知識,若不放下依止,是自暴棄也。』J37nB388_p0501a21遂求圊頭之職,負行結緣,灑掃換水,略無懈倦。但工J37nB388_p0501a22夫不甚得力,卻甚忙然。遇結制即進堂,晝夜廢寢忘J37nB388_p0501a23餐,目不交睫者累日,直得東西不辨,南北不分,如魂J37nB388_p0501a24不散底死人相似,打七亦不知身在何地行止。兩堂J37nB388_p0501a25首座輪次考工,或答話亦不知所出,或亦忘禮拜,杜J37nB388_p0501a26口呆立,如木偶人,雖竹篦在脊,亦如風過耳。七畢,隨J37nB388_p0501a27眾上方丈作禮,首座云:『兩堂禪師七完矣,禮拜和尚。』J37nB388_p0501a28師翁云:『未在,待階前石獅子點頭,是完七之時。』眾中J37nB388_p0501a29一僧云:『石獅子點頭也。』師翁云:『以何為驗?』僧便喝,師J37nB388_p0501a30翁即喚僧出曰:『老僧者裏不許下喝,喝者罰銀五錢,J37nB388_p0501b01你喝老僧那?』遂痛打幾死。予在眾不覺通身汗下,如J37nB388_p0501b02桶底脫落相似,從前凝滯一時冰消瓦解,曰:『諸方傳J37nB388_p0501b03聞此老子乃文字善知識,原來機用如此威烈。』遂不J37nB388_p0501b04疑天下古今老凍儂舌頭瞞也。次日,入方丈呈見,師J37nB388_p0501b05翁曰:『老僧不許人下喝,喝者罰銀五錢,你作麼生?速J37nB388_p0501b06道!速道!』予云:『某甲今日失錢造罪。』師翁拈棒,予便拂J37nB388_p0501b07袖而出。偶師翁受龍池請,命予隨行就職操履,雖諾J37nB388_p0501b08而不果行,欲渡江以了吾母禮普陀之愿。到寧波,以J37nB388_p0501b09國有海禁,但望海禮之,即上天童見先師,先師問云:J37nB388_p0501b10『那裏來?』予云:『金粟。』先師云:『老和尚安否?』予云:『安。』先師J37nB388_p0501b11云:『來時老和尚道甚麼?』予云:『教和尚莫多口。』先師拈J37nB388_p0501b12棒,予拂袖而出。予見先師為人本色厚道,舉止安祥,J37nB388_p0501b13遂親依焉,俾為侍者。予發揮古今公案語句,投誠請J37nB388_p0501b14益,先師曰:『此乃諸方舊套子,可厭。我者裏須是脫略J37nB388_p0501b15窠臼始得。』被先師一一按過,予從此服膺。所以山僧J37nB388_p0501b16住院拈香云:『昔年金粟會裏拄地撐天,末後太白山J37nB388_p0501b17中七花八裂是也。』自後凡先師垂問上堂,予則與眾J37nB388_p0501b18爭先,輒當仁不讓,果與尋常不同,如水入水也。四月J37nB388_p0501b19八日,因督師張少保入山飯僧祈嗣,請上堂,予則當J37nB388_p0501b20機以五位王子酬唱,言鋒迅捷,一眾聳然。先師座上J37nB388_p0501b21曰:『大眾看取者員戰將。』予曰:『切莫塗污好。』先師云:『真J37nB388_p0501b22個。』隨題扇一偈,為予改今字云:『動著清風隨手施,卷J37nB388_p0501b23舒靈妙在當時,鹽官昔索今吾贈,莫道古今非一揆。』J37nB388_p0501b24未幾,命掌記室授拂一枚,并自題像讚示之,其略云:J37nB388_p0501b25『釋迦既解拖水泥,彌勒也曾入艸莽,少林骨髓馬駒J37nB388_p0501b26心,臨濟拳頭黃檗掌。只可近,不可倣,從來馬糞類驢J37nB388_p0501b27屎,今古一揆殊不爽。』師翁興刱平陽,予往來兩間,曲J37nB388_p0501b28盡玄奧之益。西堂乏人,命予分座訓徒,隨送伽黎一J37nB388_p0501b29頂,并秉拂牌、拄杖入寮。先師見予秉拂語并考工機J37nB388_p0501b30緣,對眾稱賞曰:『機辯縱橫,揆子卻有從上體裁,說法J37nB388_p0501c01之式,權衡有準,雖大慧何多讓焉?』有同參來訪,問云:J37nB388_p0501c02『昔日廬山觀瀑布句,還曾舉似人否?』予曰:『直得匙挑J37nB388_p0501c03不上。』參云:『既是匙挑不上,因甚分天童座居一眾之J37nB388_p0501c04首?』予曰:『若不是老兄相悉,揆上座一生受屈。』參云:『即J37nB388_p0501c05今瀑布又不流也。』予曰:『你再說,我即嘔出。』先師退天J37nB388_p0501c06童院事,重興瑞巖,予即辭上湖南,先師隨應龍牙請J37nB388_p0501c07書來,命予先往代為主法。予遜諸同門遊荊南玉泉,J37nB388_p0501c08尋天皇、天王二道,悟諸祖故蹟。未幾,郢州縉紳眾檀J37nB388_p0501c09越請住月掌此山,乃保寧勇高弟智淵禪師開山,到J37nB388_p0501c10院開法,瓣香為先師拈出矣。閱三年,退居楚襄王放J37nB388_p0501c11鷹臺半載,拳石之地難以容眾,昶菴和尚以永隆古J37nB388_p0501c12剎見招,又三年遂成法席。郢地一住十載,因先師六J37nB388_p0501c13旬大誕,即買舟東下省覲拜祝。到瑞巖,先師喜曰:『汝J37nB388_p0501c14來也,山僧年邁尚苦有眾,累汝代為主持佛法,山僧J37nB388_p0501c15落些閑去。』即奉命首眾。方兩月,忽神鼎耑使至,迎請J37nB388_p0501c16住持。先師意在予,以予已離座下十年,同門中未離J37nB388_p0501c17左右者恐有紛議,遂默禱于韋天曰:『揆首座眼目端J37nB388_p0501c18正,若與此山有緣,願遂所卜。』即命侍司設香案,先師J37nB388_p0501c19當眾稽首,竟卜得予,一時大眾譁然稱善,即屢辭不J37nB388_p0501c20獲免。先師退謂眾曰:『東山演祖云:「我無克勤諸子,真J37nB388_p0501c21法門中罪人也。」山僧住天童一十二年,於諸子中所J37nB388_p0501c22得一揆亦不愧也。神鼎乃山僧最初揚化之席,以天J37nB388_p0501c23童重擔有負湘人之望,至今在懷。今得揆長老說法J37nB388_p0501c24其間,山僧死無餘憾矣。』時值隆冬,山僧以師命不辭,J37nB388_p0501c25冒風雪三千里來到此山灑掃,與諸兄弟波波挈挈J37nB388_p0501c26坐經七夏矣。先師言猶在耳,自恨薄緣寡祐,有愧先J37nB388_p0501c27師望重之恩,其間鍋子大小、杓柄短長,一一難瞞眾J37nB388_p0501c28眼,此是山僧生平敗闕。諸兄弟幸是諸方碩學英靈J37nB388_p0501c29漢子,當有超佛越祖之大志氣,慎勿效者不唧溜漢J37nB388_p0501c30也。久立,珍重。」眾作禮而退。
壽塔銘有序
J37nB388_p0502a02余昔宦遊山水,固羨煙霞, 王事勤勞,無暇履踐。邇J37nB388_p0502a03來喬寓金陵廿有餘載,雖未窮釋氏之奧,而且好方J37nB388_p0502a04外之交,如染香人,覺有香氣。時以禪風之盛,海內宗J37nB388_p0502a05工卓絕當世者,雖聞神鼎一揆禪師之名,素未謀面。J37nB388_p0502a06適其門人真懶上人乃同鄉道契,持其本師語錄、行J37nB388_p0502a07由,以壽塔問銘於余。余嘗聞多寶佛塔全身不散,為J37nB388_p0502a08證妙法,而釋迦如來劫歷剎塵,籌佛壽量有所未盡,J37nB388_p0502a09誠不可思議之功德,表無數量之數量耳。按禪師諱J37nB388_p0502a10元揆,字一揆,號昂叟,體真於威音那畔,示蹟於會稽J37nB388_p0502a11錢氏。生而穎悟,志且超邁,露囊錐於太白,受心印於J37nB388_p0502a12遠公,為平陽弘覺國師法孫。初住郢州月掌,次遷永J37nB388_p0502a13隆、寧波、瑞巖,即今繼席神鼎。每座道場,大啟潑天門J37nB388_p0502a14戶;揮揚佛事,重開列祖玄關。手眼圓明,門庭孤峻,設J37nB388_p0502a15三問以驗來學,謂之三關碩學,參徒鮮有契其機者。J37nB388_p0502a16嘗有僧問:「達磨分皮分髓,未審和尚此間分個甚麼?」J37nB388_p0502a17師云:「有願不撒沙。」僧云:「無價寶珠,阿誰欠少?」師云:「猶J37nB388_p0502a18帶瓦礫在。」師之機用,率多類此。由是湖海浩歸,道素J37nB388_p0502a19深懷法乳,將崇壽塔,以永瞻依。余知師迥超幻海,頓J37nB388_p0502a20契心宗,體法性身,稟智慧命,則與多寶如來、釋迦善J37nB388_p0502a21逝貫穿鼻孔,其揆一也。夫何壽量而可量?又何塔銘J37nB388_p0502a22而可銘?且師之本地風光,纖毫無累,而復帶水拖泥,J37nB388_p0502a23崇事塔廟,不亦玷乎?曾憶唐代宗帝問南陽慧忠國J37nB388_p0502a24師曰:「和尚百年後所須何物?」忠曰:「與老僧造一所無J37nB388_p0502a25縫塔。」帝曰:「就師請取塔樣。」忠良久曰:「會麼?」帝曰:「不會。」J37nB388_p0502a26忠曰:「吾有得法弟子耽源,卻諳此事,乞詔問之。」帝問J37nB388_p0502a27源,源曰:「陛下會麼?」帝曰:「不會。」源曰:「湘之南,潭之北,中J37nB388_p0502a28有黃金克一國。無影樹下合同船,琉璃殿上無知識。」J37nB388_p0502a29是則幾能明師塔者?蓋諸門人久被陶鎔,欲展衷誠,J37nB388_p0502a30共襄斯務,以塔其可塔,銘其可銘,而銘之曰:

J37nB388_p0502b13從上古錐擔荷法門鉅任,非圖名聞利養、片衣口食,J37nB388_p0502b14獨善其身而已。於一切處、一切時,莫不孳孳切切以J37nB388_p0502b15道自警,或有相應分,便就水邊林下深培厚養、實履J37nB388_p0502b16真操,不以得少為足、不以枯淡為嫌,以待時至龍天J37nB388_p0502b17推出,卓卓以利生為務,入泥入水為法忘軀,雖赴火J37nB388_p0502b18蹈湯有所不惜,始是大丈夫出家之能事矣。先德有J37nB388_p0502b19言:「若不傳法度眾生,畢竟無能報恩者。」豈虛語哉?世J37nB388_p0502b20日下衰,法門凋敝,多見近時流輩半青半黃,如三家J37nB388_p0502b21村裏弄猢猻相似,往往弄出人前一場笑具,良可嘆J37nB388_p0502b22也。古人標格規模不可復見,唯在當人力行之可也。J37nB388_p0502b23山僧昔年瞻風撥艸於吳、楚、浙、直間,所見老師宿德、J37nB388_p0502b24所得所證,終不輕易自肯,及到天童服勤十稔方得J37nB388_p0502b25平貼,所以此事大非容易。要做我臨濟下烜赫兒孫,J37nB388_p0502b26須看從上榜樣,便得上不愧於佛祖龍天、下不愧於J37nB388_p0502b27時賢後學,炯子其勉之。

J37nB388_p0502b29先師遠老人,荷大法擔,而應湖湘緇白之請,來主神J37nB388_p0502b30鼎法席,大振臨濟之道。凡天下士志於道者,莫不水J37nB388_p0502c01赴雲臻,聞風而至。一時麟角鳳毛,龍驤虎驟,騰踏座J37nB388_p0502c02下,不讓妙喜之於雙徑,馬祖之於西江。千百年來,湖J37nB388_p0502c03南法席之盛,再見於神鼎,實謂祖印重光矣。我麗宗J37nB388_p0502c04法兄禪師,以穎悟之姿,入室最蚤,得其機用,眾所推J37nB388_p0502c05許。未幾,弘覺師翁應詔皇都,宣命先師繼席天童,以J37nB388_p0502c06師綱維神鼎而攝院事,輒司法柄安眾焉。又數年,以J37nB388_p0502c07法乳恩誼未忘,買舟東下,省覲天童,卒為表率,經二J37nB388_p0502c08寒暑。迨返湖湘,為巴陵四眾挽住普濟禪院,為四方J37nB388_p0502c09學者所歸,遂成法席。其應機說法,鍛煉衲子,純以第J37nB388_p0502c10一義諦接人,斬釘截鐵,不涉廉纖,較之諸方院之大J37nB388_p0502c11小、眾之多寡,求於實效,則指不多曲矣。會神鼎虛席,J37nB388_p0502c12先老人俾命住持,使符將至,師俄從別道長往矣。嗟J37nB388_p0502c13嗟!是豈祖庭秋晚,末運澆漓,而師誠不欲住持之縛J37nB388_p0502c14乎?蓋師名位不稱其德,不能無慨。晦堂曰:「功名美器,J37nB388_p0502c15造物惜之,不與人全,人固欲之,天必奪之。」嗚呼!倘幸J37nB388_p0502c16按下雲頭,吼無畏音於祖山,則師門大有起色,未可J37nB388_p0502c17料也。予以譾劣無似,來補其處,其得法諸門人,編輯J37nB388_p0502c18師示眾、小參、晚參、拈古、頌古、偈語等為上下卷,繡梓J37nB388_p0502c19流通,問序於予。予忝同門之誼,不為不深,故撮其要J37nB388_p0502c20於卷端,凡閱是錄者,當得魚忘筌可也。如以文質較J37nB388_p0502c21量短長,則師於常寂光中不為住持所縛,亦甘心矣J37nB388_p0502c22夫。
紺眉和尚語錄序
J37nB388_p0502c24圓悟佛果老人道大行時,座下法將如大慧杲之傑J37nB388_p0502c25出,海內無雙。有問果曰:「隆藏主何其柔易乃爾?」果曰:J37nB388_p0502c26「瞌睡虎耳。」及出世,以吳越令行,道聲遐播,直使濟上J37nB388_p0502c27宗傳綿延至今,兒孫遍天下,皆睡虎之裔也。佛果之J37nB388_p0502c28遠訛,寧有加焉?我同門紺兄,昔年天童入先師之室J37nB388_p0502c29受記莂,後陸沉於吳越間,吟詠詩篇,與騷人韻士為J37nB388_p0502c30伍,以毛遂之錐未露囊穎,鮮有能識之者。及乎先師J37nB388_p0503a01化洽兩浙,而龍牙一席支應不暇,幾為波旬之所湮J37nB388_p0503a02沒。戊辰秋,余拉同志力為推挽,逼上曲彔,吼無畏音,J37nB388_p0503a03則祖燈再燄,法席重光,正所謂等閒不鳴,鳴則驚人J37nB388_p0503a04也。先師若在,寧不為三十年鹽醬之慰哉?或謂神鼎J37nB388_p0503a05肘不外曲者,請以斯錄速付剞劂,流行諸方,自有明J37nB388_p0503a06眼高鑒。
神鼎誌略序
J37nB388_p0503a08天下叢林皆有誌乘,班班可考。湘陰神鼎以軒轅氏J37nB388_p0503a09得名,可獨無耶?余承乏此山十有餘載,常慨夫殘碑J37nB388_p0503a10斷碣、鐘磬版鑄之類,有片言隻字成文者,輒遭毀匿J37nB388_p0503a11殆盡,則誌書概可知矣。所幸開山諲祖語錄存諸皇J37nB388_p0503a12藏,如日月麗天,而波旬輩莫容得其便者,則誌本有J37nB388_p0503a13在焉。是故山誌者,僧史也。昔賢竹院逢僧,尚矜偷閑J37nB388_p0503a14半日。唐宣宗,人主也,嘗披緇為寺沙彌。羅念菴,大儒J37nB388_p0503a15也,奪高魁而恬為僧隱。況於吾道深有契證者,如白J37nB388_p0503a16樂天之於鳥窠,蘇子瞻之於佛印,張無盡相國、楊大J37nB388_p0503a17年內翰,率多公卿巨儒,醉心祖道,不可枚舉。嘗曰:「吾J37nB388_p0503a18從學佛而後,知儒也益深。」是又不獨為僧史也。或有J37nB388_p0503a19進而語予者曰:「吾儕山林寓興,惟知樸速無文而已。J37nB388_p0503a20若夫史者,將以為名也。然則僧亦須名乎?且吾聞之,J37nB388_p0503a21僧也者,外形骸以理自勝,名利不攖其懷,是非不入J37nB388_p0503a22于耳,幾忘人世間事,又烏所用名為?」余曰:「噫!何其迂J37nB388_p0503a23也!大象不繇兔徑,又非子之所能悉。當今沉空滯寂J37nB388_p0503a24之徒,名為耽著小乘;和光同塵之士,號為圓通聖侶。J37nB388_p0503a25凡接物利生處,雖花街酒肆、虎穴魔宮,曾無間然。況J37nB388_p0503a26高豎剎竿,主盟斯道,以叢林為己任者歟?茲山宗工,J37nB388_p0503a27近則聯芳數代,名播寰區,象龍騰踏其間,又越幾數J37nB388_p0503a28十年矣。不誌將見紊亂,久而散失,魚目混珍,後之修J37nB388_p0503a29誌者無由考鏡焉。」客曰:「唯唯,敬聞師命。」于是歡忭作J37nB388_p0503a30禮而去。余遂書此,以為誌略弁首。

J37nB388_p0503b02余住院湖楚南北,經今二十餘載,自慚庸拙,於法門J37nB388_p0503b03毫無裨益,一聞鬥諍堅固,傷觸法門者,靡不欲被髮J37nB388_p0503b04纓冠而往敕之。何則?法門衰替之時,吾輩捨己從人,J37nB388_p0503b05冰競弘忍,尚恐不及,況角力乎?去歲浙中之行,以天J37nB388_p0503b06童、平陽、瑞巖祖父塔頭為了瓣香之念,歷徇法道,見J37nB388_p0503b07聞與昔殊異,曷勝太息。從平陽出,遇顯聖見一書,出J37nB388_p0503b08自惟直智楷禪師。楷,白巖位中符公嗣也,書曰《正名J37nB388_p0503b09錄》,隨閱一過。嗟嗟!名固有正,其言不順。何哉?古人云:J37nB388_p0503b10「醍醐上味,為世所珍,遇斯等人,翻成毒藥。」其《正名錄》J37nB388_p0503b11之謂乎?是書因其師符公嘗以自恃著述為業,集一J37nB388_p0503b12書曰《大統》,將皇藏內《傳燈》諸錄刪改迨盡,以生滅心J37nB388_p0503b13變亂舊章,削去彼宗祖師五代并我濟宗二代正傳J37nB388_p0503b14之祖。細觀符公削意,不值一唾。何也?我濟宗玄祖傳J37nB388_p0503b15至吾超輩為三十三代,洞宗价祖傳主符公令師明J37nB388_p0503b16輩為三十三代,符公不甘▆居超輩之晚,肆其蠆毒,J37nB388_p0503b17千方百計削去五代、二代,自陞為二十九代,與我濟J37nB388_p0503b18宗通輩班等。如此忍心悖逆,點自祖宗,妄自陞高,曾J37nB388_p0503b19市頑村豎之不若,敢僭著述,名列正士乎?不免南泉J37nB388_p0503b20云:「饒汝陞與釋迦齊肩,猶是王老師兒孫在。」諸方出J37nB388_p0503b21書,非之、闢之、攻之,無累十餘數家,即彼本宗鼓山為J37nB388_p0503b22霖禪師兩辨其謬,符公抵死不放,硬自搪塞。及乎敗J37nB388_p0503b23露,銷釋不去,則又東牽西掩,今已謝殼漏矣。為之後J37nB388_p0503b24者,亦欲雪父之恥,刻書辨之掩之,殊不知欲隱彌露。J37nB388_p0503b25語云:「揚湯止沸,曷若爨下抽薪?」至哉言乎!何堪更逞J37nB388_p0503b26臆見?往往傷我濟上血脈。我濟宗一派,正大光明,亙J37nB388_p0503b27古亙今,莫誰敢為?妄議之者,生心喪謗,自陷泥犁,是J37nB388_p0503b28則把火燒天,徒自疲耳,於吾諸祖何損?渠書之出,己J37nB388_p0503b29有諸家闢書行之久矣,諸方自有明眼者鑒。但恐後J37nB388_p0503b30之來者,與夫初留心禪道、護法高檀,見其書,受其惑,J37nB388_p0503c01從冥入冥,疑誤後學,欲藉管城折其憍慢,恐屬多事,J37nB388_p0503c02且經攻擊者眾,所謂罪不重科,然亦不忍坐視其猖J37nB388_p0503c03獗。諸家闢書不暇彙刻,但將彼宗〈鼓山辨謬二篇〉、弘J37nB388_p0503c04覺師翁《敦本錄》、禪林公討檄為三書合刻,以告夫天J37nB388_p0503c05下法門知己,以見楷公師資之妄足矣。有冀楷公息J37nB388_p0503c06其狂悖,清楚自宗譜牒源流真贗可也。明教嵩曰:「人J37nB388_p0503c07情莫不專己而略人,是此而非彼,非過則諍,專過則J37nB388_p0503c08拘。君子通而已矣,何必苟專?君子當而已矣,何必苟J37nB388_p0503c09非?」焉得去其專非,從善如流之士,與論法門正大哉?J37nB388_p0503c10或曰:「師刻三書,亦揚湯止沸,可乎?」曰:「是又不然。君子J37nB388_p0503c11達權識變到此,余欲無言,不可得也。如國家兵器,用J37nB388_p0503c12之豈得己哉?彼既傷我濟上源流,是豈免楔以楔出,J37nB388_p0503c13毒以毒攻乎?據款結案,良有以也。知我罪我,我曷敢J37nB388_p0503c14辭?」

三書合刻後跋
J37nB388_p0503c17三書合刻,便見宗旨明、源流正。向遭妄筆駭異者,群J37nB388_p0503c18疑頓釋,正所謂日月出矣,爝火何堪?斯皆白巖師資J37nB388_p0503c19之所致也。拋磚引玉,不其然乎?白巖既爾僭操著述J37nB388_p0503c20之權,而以一人智識見聞有限,雖屬矯強,有擅改皇J37nB388_p0503c21藏舊章之罪也,不徒然全謂無功。已爾是渠明設難J37nB388_p0503c22問,半似請益諸家,既出闢書,豈非教授教誡而何?如J37nB388_p0503c23弘覺師翁之《寶鐸醒迷論》是也。白巖扭捏處雖無所J37nB388_p0503c24逃遁,其實獲益甚多,但未肯屈明輸降款于諸家,獨J37nB388_p0503c25向師翁修書下意求懺,傾心拱服者,誠良心雖昧耳。J37nB388_p0503c26其削自宗五代祖而成偽書,諒亦既伸難縮,只成顯J37nB388_p0503c27聖一家之私書耳。若乃通都大國曠代之典,古有《五J37nB388_p0503c28燈會元》、《續傳燈》、《指月》諸錄,昭代有《續略》、《繼燈》、嚴統《纘J37nB388_p0503c29續》、南澗之《續燈存稿》、《正宗錄》、建隆《續指月錄》。至若京J37nB388_p0503c30都聖感《五燈全書》,乃奉 旨所修, 御製有序,如杲J37nB388_p0504a01日麗乎中天,有志之士孰不從其正大,肯信白巖之J37nB388_p0504a02偽書誑惑者歟?

四眾弟子等各捐刊貲刻此J37nB388_p0504a06 本師 揆和尚語錄全部一十二卷,人于J37nB388_p0504a07 大藏流通。伏願法輪常轉,共證無生。J37nB388_p0504a08 康熙三十八年己卯菊月望日謹識。
