J37nB388_p0496a05吾宗之最著於唐宋間,而荊郢襄鄂素稱禪窟,當時J37nB388_p0496a06士大夫留心宗門者,有若相國裴公休、內翰楊公大J37nB388_p0496a07年、都尉李公遵勗、相國張公商英,一時名賢,常遊禪J37nB388_p0496a08席諸大老之門,鏗鏘激揚,於斯為盛。不虞數百年來,J37nB388_p0496a09祖庭雲冷,法社寥寥,是豈無選官選佛之人遞相唱J37nB388_p0496a10和乎?抑吾道之隆替有時耶?伏讀翰教三復之餘,不J37nB388_p0496a11特洞明一貫之旨,而於世外翩翩宛有凌雲之氣,忻J37nB388_p0496a12慰不已。承以月掌數數見招,敢不奉命?但貧道慵愚J37nB388_p0496a13無似,利眾乏珍,恐不副諸台檀之知遇耳。若曰主張J37nB388_p0496a14宗門,則吾豈敢?祖庭興復,有待其緣,然在弘護光中,J37nB388_p0496a15將來未可料也。晤教不遙,先此馳復,統惟原諒。不一。
復含玉監院
J37nB388_p0496a17隱禪者持書至,得悉月掌一席,實公一片苦心。況此J37nB388_p0496a18山乃保寧勇高弟智淵禪師開山,為濟下祖庭,公既J37nB388_p0496a19恢復一番,不欲獨善其身,而以公諸所好忘軀為法,J37nB388_p0496a20合諸名賢延請知識主法其間,自非我法社象龍不J37nB388_p0496a21能出此舉也。然祖席重興,無不忻躍,但山僧尟福,恐J37nB388_p0496a22不副郢人之望。如公始終不異,竭力維持,山僧即曳J37nB388_p0496a23杖而來,互為主伴,作钁頭邊佛事可也。若以院務為J37nB388_p0496a24累,只圖卸輕擔子,此萬萬不能也。公宜諒之。不盡。
與林漢清居士
J37nB388_p0496a26近來學道人如衲僧家行徑,三登九上,暮請朝參,固J37nB388_p0496a27是不必論也。至於俗士中,或見一箇半箇有少分相J37nB388_p0496a28應者,只圖體面談禪,扯曳含胡而已,要得向生死急J37nB388_p0496a29切處討箇分曉,與古人把手共行,直是萬中無一。若J37nB388_p0496a30居士者,於己躬下事既爾著著,不肯放過,發揮語句,J37nB388_p0496b01遠來請益,此真難得,不意郢州有此人耶?忻羨!忻羨!J37nB388_p0496b02但我宗門下客激揚箇事於不得已也,出一言、吐一J37nB388_p0496b03句,斬釘截鐵,非圖鬥湊合頭語及方木投圓竅而已,J37nB388_p0496b04所謂入此門來,莫存知解是也。居士既出至誠,山僧J37nB388_p0496b05豈可賺誤?古人云:「語不離窠臼,焉能出蓋纏?」居士勉J37nB388_p0496b06之。
與永隆昶菴和尚
J37nB388_p0496b08木落遠山,恍然寓目。法兄一回枉顧,頓使林泉起色,J37nB388_p0496b09惜其未盡快談,展我遐緒,魔強法弱,今古如然。老瞿J37nB388_p0496b10曇轉法輪於天上人間時,而殷勤擁衛,則有帝釋梵J37nB388_p0496b11王;恭敬圍繞,則有天龍八部;傾誠皈向,則自國王大J37nB388_p0496b12臣。雖三界之尊無倫匹者,而魔種六群輩往往為逆,J37nB388_p0496b13亦莫如之何也。非力不勝也,蓋吾佛世尊以平等慈J37nB388_p0496b14心多方攝受,俾其識心達本,同趨覺道耳。然謂達生J37nB388_p0496b15身陷墜,恬不知返者,是渠自作自受,理固宜也。況今J37nB388_p0496b16末法澆漓,豈能免耶?嗟見近日野狐精黨如某某等J37nB388_p0496b17者,虎皮羊質,衲僧門下屎臭氣從未夢見,妄稱費隱J37nB388_p0496b18老人法子,譬畫虎不成,反類為狗,群聚一類雞鳴狗J37nB388_p0496b19盜之徒,以修造寺宇為名,瓜分檀信膏脂,選佛場為J37nB388_p0496b20鬥戰之場,清淨域成利名之域,何費老人之不幸,無J37nB388_p0496b21辜受此汙屈哉?雖然,世自有明眼高鑑耳。我輩既忝J37nB388_p0496b22傳佛心宗,當竭肝腦,披忽辱鎧,豎精進幢,堅牢牆塹,J37nB388_p0496b23勿使魚目混珍,庶幾一正而壓百邪也。吾兄以為何J37nB388_p0496b24如?荒山開爐在邇,凡百艸率,特遣侍僧密啟其意,法J37nB388_p0496b25誼深愛,必見諒也。不盡。
與荊南心印大師
J37nB388_p0496b27一般秀色湘山裏,君自匡徒我自眠。弟愧古人遠矣,J37nB388_p0496b28敢不遜老兄一籌?說甚三世凍儂,一口吞盡,無眾生J37nB388_p0496b29可度。如法兄者,放曠自如,神機莫測,是凡是聖,未免J37nB388_p0496b30疑殺多少人也。郢州法道蕭條既久,魔種輩乘間而J37nB388_p0496c01出,學者既乏正因,以至玉石不分。弟非不欲見義勇J37nB388_p0496c02為,其如螳臂當輪,敢不望巖而退耶?月掌院事幸已J37nB388_p0496c03息肩,放鷹臺不讓孤峰頂上,雖未暇喝風罵雨、臥月J37nB388_p0496c04眠雲,儘可藏拙。所苦者,求一堪共語之人,何異撥火J37nB388_p0496c05尋漚?欲得吾兄花圃一回暢談,不可復得,不卜有此J37nB388_p0496c06日否?違教日久,慕之如渴,禪子往便裁書敘心,曷勝J37nB388_p0496c07神往?
與張成遠居士
J37nB388_p0496c09山僧昔在荊南,殊承道義,虛叨信施,至今懷念不已,J37nB388_p0496c10惜其不獲久留道話,被人橫拖倒曳,驀過郢州,竟別J37nB388_p0496c11兩載有餘。不審居士近來工夫何似?於古今關捩子J37nB388_p0496c12少有窒礙否?一切處、一切時於逆順境界透脫否?想J37nB388_p0496c13日新之益,又不待山僧饒舌也。古人云:「三日不相見,J37nB388_p0496c14莫作等閒看。」焉得大風吹過郢州一回相見哉?時因J37nB388_p0496c15往,便聊借玄沙白紙一幅,打些葛藤,以通疏闊之候。J37nB388_p0496c16若道有字無字,盡是謗山僧不少也,作麼生得不謗J37nB388_p0496c17去?請下一轉語看。
復永隆昶菴和尚
J37nB388_p0496c19春初退院而應鷹臺請時,曾遣侍僧走候,雖聞有荊J37nB388_p0496c20南之行,以人事紛拏之際,卒不遑勒荒函,以附侍者J37nB388_p0496c21通候玉泉堂上也。自此去人日遠,思人益深,而音問J37nB388_p0496c22杳然,不審法從何時歸也。昨侍者回,得悉近況,讀翰J37nB388_p0496c23教并頒玉泉惠書,喜愧交集。法體違和無他,以道途J37nB388_p0496c24往返,不過寒暑失調耳。即欲趨候,緣薄務為羈,弗克J37nB388_p0496c25如願。所瀆者,永隆名剎既已中興,正待遠震法雷,何J37nB388_p0496c26乃卒撾退鼓?弟庸愚無似,只宜隱遁過時,何堪過譽J37nB388_p0496c27諄諄,而當知己推重乎?請已此念,惟冀不倦津梁是J37nB388_p0496c28禱。
復玉泉蓮月和尚
J37nB388_p0496c30即日仲冬嚴寒,恭惟玉泉堂上和尚起居多福。自癸J37nB388_p0497a01丑春,再瞻雅範於荊南,深辱愛惠。方聞空谷之音,跫J37nB388_p0497a02然而喜。不意業緣牽挽,被人賺過郢州。株守月掌,破J37nB388_p0497a03院燈心,皂角舖子,不免抱屈開張。從茲挈挈波波,竟J37nB388_p0497a04不遑遣僧申候也。返辱翰惠,愈增赧顏。玉泉一席,宗J37nB388_p0497a05風絕響久矣。今得和尚駐錫,起廢興衰,與歷代古錐,J37nB388_p0497a06重開生面。不惟祖庭有幸,亦法門大幸也。惜其不獲J37nB388_p0497a07觀光拜賀為歉。近以昶兄染恙既久,兼承屢屢削牘J37nB388_p0497a08見招。因過永隆候問,竟以院事見托。臨時失算,卒難J37nB388_p0497a09推卻。但恐薄福之人,不副同條之望耳。昶兄才秉生J37nB388_p0497a10知,僧中龍也。當久留座下,表率堂中,分座說法,作人J37nB388_p0497a11天眼。將來繼席聯芳,如座下別有得髓者,則吾不得J37nB388_p0497a12而知也。容遲面布,統惟慈諒。弗備。
與李讓堅進士諱先固
J37nB388_p0497a14憶昔獲晤於山菴道話時,已識不凡人也。俄爾平地J37nB388_p0497a15雷聲,轟出桃花巨浪,何其壯哉!亦何暢哉!昔者丹霞J37nB388_p0497a16因選官得入選佛之室,為禪宗巨擘,往來石頭、馬祖J37nB388_p0497a17之門,與龐公輩為方外交,機辯縱橫,氣宇超邁,學者J37nB388_p0497a18宗之。此挂冠高世之風,輝騰今古,亦學佛之榜樣也。J37nB388_p0497a19今者奪魁選官,已聞命矣,不審選佛何似?所選之佛J37nB388_p0497a20是何名號?居何國土?還化物否?若也兩彩一賽,當作J37nB388_p0497a21重重之賀也。前者造謁不遇,得非他方化物乎?永隆J37nB388_p0497a22古寺,向承為募緣引,佛殿既已完功,又得下江匠者J37nB388_p0497a23裝繪迦文金像,傍侍飲光、慶喜,護法則有韋天持杵、J37nB388_p0497a24伽藍諸神、達磨諸祖,畢備一堂,像設精嚴,規模壯麗,J37nB388_p0497a25此方又稱一奇觀也。諸善信欲鐫石為記,以誌不朽,J37nB388_p0497a26碑上之文,盡皆鶴望於台檀也。倘蒙不吝,幸莫大焉。J37nB388_p0497a27餘樓弗備。
復丁清遙文學
J37nB388_p0497a29日承枉顧,荒院生色多矣,而焚膏繼晷,談心之願,似J37nB388_p0497a30乎未盡慊懞。忽辱翰惠公郎遠頒厚施飯僧,謹合爪J37nB388_p0497b01拜嘉,俟佛成道日,方設供表揚至善也。別後以禪書J37nB388_p0497b02數冊獻閱者,以居士好道心切故爾。吾教意不立文J37nB388_p0497b03字,直指人心,見性與佛無二。文字者何?標指見月,以J37nB388_p0497b04楔出楔之故也。學者不能玅悟,滯在文字語言,而尋J37nB388_p0497b05行數墨輩,往往被葛藤絆倒,出頭不得,是見指而不J37nB388_p0497b06見月也。居士根器不凡,嗜道勇銳,倘靜坐書齋,於未J37nB388_p0497b07展卷時頓明此事,卻省多少心力也。不然,且向葛藤J37nB388_p0497b08裏理會,日久歲深,自然瓜熟蒂落也。謹復。
與子淳法侄禪師
J37nB388_p0497b10臨濟之道,四傳而至風穴,穴憂仰山吳越大風之讖,J37nB388_p0497b11對諸門人涕泣。其時首山便放下所業之經,一肩擔J37nB388_p0497b12荷,由是濟北宗風遠大,至今數百年無替者,首山克J37nB388_p0497b13紹之力也。苟非代有其人,忘軀為法,則風穴之涕泣J37nB388_p0497b14依然不已也。昨沙鎮獲晤清範,方知法門老成,不當J37nB388_p0497b15陸沉乃爾,而大任宜有賴焉。山僧忝為同枝之誼,所J37nB388_p0497b16謂棒打石人頭,對家裏人說家裏話,老侄不以為逆J37nB388_p0497b17耳之言否?向者未及深敘,抱恨良多。湖鄉荒僻,共語J37nB388_p0497b18者甚寡,如不見棄,過我永隆,傾談數日,以見千里同J37nB388_p0497b19風,法誼藹然也。候之弗備。
復眾檀越護法
J37nB388_p0497b21三湘名勝,宗風大振,於趙宋時獨神鼎為最焉。自諲J37nB388_p0497b22老唱滅後,便見祖庭雲冷,法社凋殘,代為流俗輩食J37nB388_p0497b23息其間,而宗廟之美闃爾無聞也。猶幸山水有靈,得J37nB388_p0497b24雲和尚與吾遠老人相繼揚化,起廢興衰,則臨濟之J37nB388_p0497b25道於斯再顯。更喜大檀諸君子於二大老處深染法J37nB388_p0497b26味,實雲龍風虎之遇也。山野譾劣無似,承乏此山,復J37nB388_p0497b27蒙眾高檀異口同音,聯詞璧合,於人天廣眾唱拍相J37nB388_p0497b28隨,雖為山林千古佳話,而知遇之私將何以圖報哉?J37nB388_p0497b29理宜趨謝,以入院之初似難縱步,耑僧代候,容面有J37nB388_p0497b30期,餘縷不盡。
與湘陰陳邑侯瑤鶴
J37nB388_p0497c02老維摩不資餘力,取之左右,以手擎香飯,能飽萬眾J37nB388_p0497c03菩薩,不是神通玅用,且非法爾如然。方今由斯道躅J37nB388_p0497c04其芳者,不道全無,只是不可多見。日承頒惠俸金,輝J37nB388_p0497c05映山中,作香飯佛事,能使滿堂僧眾各各飽足懽忻,J37nB388_p0497c06咸歎為希有事也。或問:「齋僧之益,獲福幾何?延壽幾J37nB388_p0497c07許?」山僧曰:「此不可思議功德,非言喻可及。若說似君,J37nB388_p0497c08則落數量也。」如命叨齋,祝願已畢,特遣侍僧走謝外,J37nB388_p0497c09山物數種,以將芹曝之意。雖未可以世禮目之,然新J37nB388_p0497c10茗初製,較夫仙餌延年之物,所謂壺中別有天也。幸J37nB388_p0497c11叱存。弗備。
與郢州眾居士
J37nB388_p0497c13山僧從威音王以前,至樓至佛後,不啻百千萬劫,於J37nB388_p0497c14中不知何日為生?何日為死?偶爾撞入者皮袋,露頭J37nB388_p0497c15露面,被人喚作長老,與諸君相聚一回,不過相呼相J37nB388_p0497c16喚歸去來,而欲人知幻即離,離幻即覺。不意諸君深J37nB388_p0497c17重此毒,認真幻影,破費貲囊,莊嚴法帔。在諸君重法J37nB388_p0497c18存誠則可,於山僧曷克當哉?且向於永隆,數載靡靡,J37nB388_p0497c19虛叨供養,晨昏聚首,易以圖之。今既遠隔,重貽遠慮,J37nB388_p0497c20山水重重,欲其相見一回,誠不易也。韶光易度,歲月J37nB388_p0497c21如流,珍重百年之身,道力各須堅固,幸勿隨世遷變,J37nB388_p0497c22有廢前功也。古人云:「佛法無多子,久長難得人。」諸君J37nB388_p0497c23其勉之。
復湘陰陳公瑤鶴
J37nB388_p0497c25下院齎到惠書,并拙錄序文刊貲等,謹合爪而三復J37nB388_p0497c26之餘,且感且媿曰:何期椎魯無似之夫,亦能見知大J37nB388_p0497c27君子於三千里外,是豈閑相識歟?其中發幽闡秘,籠J37nB388_p0497c28古絡今,不特尼山一貫之旨洞明,即韓昌黎佞佛一J37nB388_p0497c29案據款平結,此服天下之公論也。若乃父母未生面J37nB388_p0497c30目前,書中醉後添盃者,只欲台臺到家耳。吾檀既已J37nB388_p0498a01見徹淵源,不於色見聲求吾佛聖人之道,豈以吾兩J37nB388_p0498a02人形骸泡幻之身相見不相見為然哉?秪此歷歷孤J37nB388_p0498a03明一段大光明藏,亙塵沙劫無間然也。記得黃山谷J37nB388_p0498a04問道於死心禪師,議論正發,死心曰:「學士死!死心死!J37nB388_p0498a05你我燒作一堆灰,向甚處相見?」山谷不能加答,正此J37nB388_p0498a06意也。豈當時含元殿上而不識長安乎?剞劂氏來山J37nB388_p0498a07時,再圖報命。艸復不盡。
復方大也居士
J37nB388_p0498a09素性自髫年,於聲利澹如也。惟期誓明生死大事,故J37nB388_p0498a10抱負不學二三十年,奔馳海內,至今無端被人喚作J37nB388_p0498a11長老。若曰與諸方善知識大相逕庭,則吾豈敢?此特J37nB388_p0498a12大居士推譽獎藉,不亦甚乎?雖然,伯牙與子期不是J37nB388_p0498a13閒相識也。讀華篇,字字典雅,無盡老子昔於兜率溺J37nB388_p0498a14器邊,大驚小怪,捉敗東林矣。居士欲捉敗無盡乎?如J37nB388_p0498a15是則神鼎斫額不暇矣。承有登山之興,故用前韻一J37nB388_p0498a16律迓之,果籃輿不爽乎?候候弗悉。
與瑞巖丆山和尚
J37nB388_p0498a18定兄持老人訃音至,痛心幾絕,久而復甦。捧讀之餘,J37nB388_p0498a19備詢後事,深喜吾兄善為繼述。芝峰一席,真誠有主,J37nB388_p0498a20老人已無餘憾,師門亦何幸哉!如弟者,庸愚無似,謬J37nB388_p0498a21為老人枚舉,勉住神鼎,其如虻負泰山。況插足未穩,J37nB388_p0498a22何堪遽失依怙?豈天之命也夫!致令三千里外之身J37nB388_p0498a23心,徒對大江之水日益飛翻也。即欲奔赴,以肩上犁J37nB388_p0498a24耙初任,卒難擺脫。復自思惟曰:與其區區慟哭於靈J37nB388_p0498a25龕,孰若立身行道,使老人面目猶在為優耳。故守株J37nB388_p0498a26待罪,緣以初住,時世維艱,貲費不豐,專僧齎上。幸吾J37nB388_p0498a27兄知我,諒我不孝之罪,治之靈前。待弟稍遲,匍匐一J37nB388_p0498a28一領過,感荷不淺。其塔上之銘,操觚者不得其人,不J37nB388_p0498a29可輕易,徒為塞白。吾兄須加裁酌,大非細事,想不待J37nB388_p0498a30弟之瑣瑣。空函馳復,抱愧殊多,伏冀為法不倦是禱。
與南嶽一雨和尚
J37nB388_p0498b02太白一燈高懸嶽面,輝映七十二峰,幸有年矣,豈止J37nB388_p0498b03師門之幸哉?忝同條者欲識一面而不果,悵歉何如?J37nB388_p0498b04前歲不揣庸陋,勉應神鼎,自慶晤面之緣旦夕可圖,J37nB388_p0498b05入院來而遊嶽攀尋之興日存胸臆,豈其如蠶作繭,J37nB388_p0498b06愈縛愈堅,徒有此心於屋裏販楊州奈何?去歲妙侄J37nB388_p0498b07遠顧,愈增愧感,隨欲遣僧問訊座前,以執事進退不J37nB388_p0498b08一,蹉跎至今,其遲慢之罪自知不可逭矣。法兄亦見J37nB388_p0498b09諒乎?倘項上枷擔稍可擺脫,一回嶽頂禮諸祖堵波,J37nB388_p0498b10晤同條家話,了卻生平之志願,方為快耳。特遣禪子J37nB388_p0498b11代申躬候,菲儀不腆,聊盡鄙私,伏冀筦存,不勝翹渴J37nB388_p0498b12之至。
復易九有文學
J37nB388_p0498b14等菴監院偕盛价持瑤函信施到山,三復之餘,已而J37nB388_p0498b15嘆曰:此長者樂善如斯乎?何施惠之至是也?噫!我知J37nB388_p0498b16之矣。無乃禪和家似不耐枯澹,饒舌於左右歟?伏詢J37nB388_p0498b17日用起居,聞醉讀之暇,常究《楞嚴》深旨、《法華》大意,且J37nB388_p0498b18於老盧故紙上耽味禪觀。如是之人,豈止一佛、二佛J37nB388_p0498b19所種諸善根而已哉?但不審於七處徵心處得阿難J37nB388_p0498b20真心否?於儘思度量時能測佛智否?老盧本來無物,J37nB388_p0498b21固不染塵埃矣。即今視聽言動者,殼漏子尚在,能不J37nB388_p0498b22染塵埃乎?身心一如乎?內外一致乎?動靜不二乎?於J37nB388_p0498b23佛祖言教不滯礙乎?倘能於一切處透脫盡淨不疑,J37nB388_p0498b24方名了事凡夫耳。張無盡曰:「吾從學佛而後,知儒益J37nB388_p0498b25深矣。」豈虛語哉?如上所舉,台檀別開手眼,與神鼎通J37nB388_p0498b26箇消息,不惟好事大家知,則林下又見一明眼居士J37nB388_p0498b27矣。望之不一。

J37nB388_p0498b29登山之訂,歲又暮矣,雲山飄杳,望之如何?遠塵上座J37nB388_p0498b30來山飯僧,皆賴噓植所致。伏詢近況,以齊家之餘力,J37nB388_p0498c01不捨一法而作種種佛事,得非善根薰培深厚而然J37nB388_p0498c02乎?然恨未識面者,記得昔有二僧,相近咫尺,各住一J37nB388_p0498c03菴,句月不相會。一日,會云:「許久在菴作甚麼?」一云:「造J37nB388_p0498c04箇無縫塔。」一云:「我亦欲造之,乞借塔樣。」一云:「何不早J37nB388_p0498c05說,卻被人借去也?」敢問是借不借?若道不借,卻成辜J37nB388_p0498c06負,埋沒古人;若道借,是何樣子?居士佛法中人,向者J37nB388_p0498c07裏通箇消息,方知山僧與居士雖未識面,已時時把J37nB388_p0498c08手同遊華藏界也;其或未然,塔樣又被人借去也。呵J37nB388_p0498c09呵!晤期當在何日?不盡縷慺。

J37nB388_p0498c11昔人云:「幾度見君詩盡好,及觀標格過於詩,平生不J37nB388_p0498c12欲藏人善,到處逢人說項斯。」昨於福嵩,不獨觀標格J37nB388_p0498c13而已。向未識荊之悵,既慰夙懷,且預希有之會,齋貺J37nB388_p0498c14優渥,固居士請法之誠,為先靈以資冥福則可,在山J37nB388_p0498c15僧當之,不亦赧然之甚乎?夫人之相與聞名,曷若見J37nB388_p0498c16面?既見,則目擊道存,了無言說,雖仲尼之於溫伯雪,J37nB388_p0498c17不復過此無說無聞,直使諸天讚嘆不及。臨別時,居J37nB388_p0498c18士以不欺之力,不甘住小歇場,以向之工夫不得力J37nB388_p0498c19處為質,較之得少為足者,何啻天壤?奈山僧舌頭太J37nB388_p0498c20短,亦不欲牽枝引蔓走作居士,如於經偈與諸話頭J37nB388_p0498c21狐疑不決,取舍未忘,卜之神明者,記得昔有禪師於J37nB388_p0498c22鬧市衢頭遇屠者賣肉,買者云:「精底割塊來。」屠擲下J37nB388_p0498c23刀,云:「那塊不是精底?」禪者傍聞,豁然大悟,頓忘取舍。J37nB388_p0498c24此與居士同參。何則?往往士夫學道,請益知識,俾令J37nB388_p0498c25掃除文字,示以無意味話頭,凡有所著,皆叱其非,便J37nB388_p0498c26生怕落空,而茫然曰:「無所著摸、無意路、無憑仗者,工J37nB388_p0498c27夫難做,不若依經義,把本順朱,從漸而進可也。」居士J37nB388_p0498c28正墮此病,是麼?卜之神明,感而遂通,愜值經偈,再三J37nB388_p0498c29入手為決,復不得力,則橫不得、豎不得,古人所謂可J37nB388_p0498c30惜者漢,死了活不得、轉身不得,是則釘樁搖櫓終無J37nB388_p0499a01痛快之時也。山僧抑不得已,以生從何來、死從何去J37nB388_p0499a02之語以為脫換捷近,貴在活卓,所謂寧參活句,莫參J37nB388_p0499a03死句,死語豈能活人耶?且作箇敲門瓦子,在日用尋J37nB388_p0499a04常行居坐臥處,忽若築著磕著,自然推門落臼有日,J37nB388_p0499a05不但死話頭,如看經教語錄中有一言一句去不得J37nB388_p0499a06處,便是話頭,便是祖師關、生死關,此時切不可放過,J37nB388_p0499a07不疑言句,是為大病。入得一門,則千門萬門、七通八J37nB388_p0499a08達,不見道:「百千法門同歸方寸,河沙妙德總在心源。」J37nB388_p0499a09豈虛語哉?茲因人力送行李回,不覺葛藤如許,作回J37nB388_p0499a10頭人事,他日見月忘指之時,痛罵神鼎者老賊饒舌J37nB388_p0499a11不少,山僧亦甘心順受也。呵呵不盡。

J37nB388_p0499a13道曠無涯,逢人不盡。居士南詢之志,勇銳可嘉,不即J37nB388_p0499a14暫止者,承發足參,方有自荒山始之念,自有玄沙不J37nB388_p0499a15出嶺之喻,相期和光同塵,不傷物義,成熟一切眾生J37nB388_p0499a16信根,庶幾兩得相宜,殊非分外也。昔阿闍世王之兄J37nB388_p0499a17曰耆婆,得起死回生之術,名稱普聞,為大醫王,將王J37nB388_p0499a18位遜弟,欲出家而不可。世尊與之約曰:「眾生之病不J37nB388_p0499a19一,身病汝治其外,心病我治其內。」由是得度者,不可J37nB388_p0499a20稱計。悉此自利利他之道,則在是矣。居士既達權變J37nB388_p0499a21如此,復何言哉?話頭之說,山僧早已不惜眉毛。何也?J37nB388_p0499a22開口成雙橛,無言落二三。是知入門便棒便喝,無非J37nB388_p0499a23老婆心切。且生從何來,與一歸何處,原無二致。既熟J37nB388_p0499a24處難忘,不妨仍舊,務在肯切。過河須用筏,到岸不須J37nB388_p0499a25舟。如戀筏不捨,守死話頭,是則冷水浸石頭無異。或J37nB388_p0499a26昏沉散亂,落在無事甲裏,疑情發起,話頭提得現前,J37nB388_p0499a27畢竟一歸何處?如此挨拶,如此追究,綿密做去。如曰J37nB388_p0499a28緩急路程,甕裏幾曾走卻鱉乎?誦〈行願品〉,身心廓然J37nB388_p0499a29太虛者,能入普賢毛孔,次第剎海乎?世緣染與不染,J37nB388_p0499a30是兩頭語。前被境緣所使,而今使得境緣乎?使得境J37nB388_p0499b01緣,則事事無礙法界也。無因起觀察時,不得作奇特J37nB388_p0499b02勝玅想,不作尋常世諦想。作是觀者,名為正觀;若他J37nB388_p0499b03觀者,名為邪觀。入佛而不能入魔,則又其力未充也。J37nB388_p0499b04拈頌比前稍進,待居士來結制,慶佛開光時,一一按J37nB388_p0499b05過不盡。

J37nB388_p0499b07接讀翰簡,蔚矣其文。居士雅思淵才,似非章句之儒J37nB388_p0499b08所倫匹也。去歲邂逅書齋,宛若夙契,好道之心,勇於J37nB388_p0499b09果敢,較之昏昏終日醉夢者,何啻天壤?既爾留心內J37nB388_p0499b10典,寧非百年後閻君前之鐵券乎?若乃冀免罪愆於J37nB388_p0499b11往昔,自求多福於當來,斯皆人天小果,未是如來大J37nB388_p0499b12道。李文和都尉曰:「學道須是鐵漢,著手心頭便判,直J37nB388_p0499b13取無上菩提,一切是非莫管。」此儒者學佛之榜樣也,J37nB388_p0499b14在居士日用中力行之何如耳。密弘居士操道之志J37nB388_p0499b15甚篤,早晚與之商確進步,或不致孤陋寡聞。倘於祖J37nB388_p0499b16師關捩子有滯礙去不得處,不妨書來,山僧即與決J37nB388_p0499b17疑,當頭印破,庶得應病之藥耳。四序惟遷,新年又添J37nB388_p0499b18一歲,今年五十有五矣。光陰瞬息,時不待人,前景能J37nB388_p0499b19幾何哉?居士勉之,不勝翹望。
與水隆先長老
J37nB388_p0499b21勗韜來,知汝住院得體,施設合宜,觀音閣功果圓滿,J37nB388_p0499b22非不大費心力,然為佛祖兒孫利生為務,與人為善J37nB388_p0499b23迥異常流,斯皆模範人天、標表後學,況諸檀書來稱J37nB388_p0499b24讚不已,汝之因緣其在是乎?昔臨濟止住一小院,風J37nB388_p0499b25穴單丁、藥山牛欄俱有光明碩大,豈在院之大小、眾J37nB388_p0499b26之多寡哉?諸檀挽留,宜應全身放下,信緣而去,勿興J37nB388_p0499b27二念也。山僧出世有年,雖垂老髮白,尚思法門寥落,J37nB388_p0499b28勉力未已,汝其偷安乎?如不體此,非山僧所以望於J37nB388_p0499b29汝也。切囑!切囑!
復福嚴式菴和尚
J37nB388_p0499c01侍僧南嶽回,詢知法力中興,福嚴祖席,感外護之隆,J37nB388_p0499c02誠為祖庭幸也。俄爾言及兜率盤石安公集五葉弘J37nB388_p0499c03傳之事,謂弟左袒盤公集書之妄,大似不知弟也。雖J37nB388_p0499c04至愚魯之者,豈有附合他宗而反自祖甘心負屈乎?J37nB388_p0499c05蓋此老雖昔年有同參之誼,別來將三十載,今雖嗣J37nB388_p0499c06洞上,住兜率,以住山事繁,尚未通往。以徵書之故,學J37nB388_p0499c07者輩取拙錄一部與之,并未知其集何書也。今聞其J37nB388_p0499c08收諸家語句機緣頌古,集為五葉弘傳,仍效白巖位J37nB388_p0499c09公修傳燈格式,削去他本宗五代正傳之祖,并削我J37nB388_p0499c10濟上二代,當時天下已曾共非之,即彼本宗鼓山為霖J37nB388_p0499c11和尚亦出書闢之矣。今盤公只去他洞上五代,我濟J37nB388_p0499c12上二代渠且未敢蹈其覆轍,既於我宗無涉無傷,其J37nB388_p0499c13他宗祖他非他削,於我何有?知我罪我,我何辭焉?諒J37nB388_p0499c14之不盡。
