J29nB244_p0742a05曩日雲根之遊,秖有船頭一張公案少分相應,居士J29nB244_p0742a06見處即不無,至今腳跟果點地麼?再不回頭轉腦麼?J29nB244_p0742a07此處若的,千處萬處更無不的;千處萬處既無不的,J29nB244_p0742a08則知從上古人縱奪殺活、方便權宜總無不的。僧問J29nB244_p0742a09趙州:「狗子還有佛性也無?」州云:「有。」只這有字,你看他J29nB244_p0742a10的不的?又僧問趙州:「狗子還有佛性也無?」州云:「無。」只J29nB244_p0742a11這無字,你看他的不的?雖是前差後別、換面改頭,都J29nB244_p0742a12不曾道著個別樣。既不曾道個別樣,畢竟道個甚麼?J29nB244_p0742a13咦!切忌錯舉。
寄惟一范道人
J29nB244_p0742a15石寶得書,有冤冤相報之語,不覺山僧性命落在道J29nB244_p0742a16人手中,因甚久戀五陵,至今覓報不得?我心懷矣!為J29nB244_p0742a17之若何?倘不違本願,可翻然而來,如一向目視雲漢,J29nB244_p0742a18終成棄物。楚郊公案了當,何時能無著念?
寄祗園禪人
J29nB244_p0742a20古人向孤峰頂上訶佛罵祖,末後一條毒棒忒煞無J29nB244_p0742a21情,禪人踞地甚峻,當必別開手眼為後來榜樣。高梁J29nB244_p0742a22咫尺,腳底芒鞋不可與路為讎,倘肯乘暇一行,亦是J29nB244_p0742a23見識好處。
復楊文波居士
J29nB244_p0742a25十二日得手書,如許說話似有覿面不逢之感。其實J29nB244_p0742a26山野未到太平時,早已與居士相為款洽,奚俟咳唾J29nB244_p0742a27吐珠玉、揮翰走雲煙,而後目三山為高岡鳳、獅子王J29nB244_p0742a28耶?又奚俟借刮翳於金篦、假長跪以屈節,而後見文J29nB244_p0742a29波為鋤驕氣慣跼跽耶?大都本地風光不容自昧。儒J29nB244_p0742a30之言曰:「個個人心有仲尼。」殊不知個個當身即仲尼J29nB244_p0742b01耳!看來饑餐渴飲、閑坐困眠、食息起居、逍遙任運,居J29nB244_p0742b02士可謂得大自在得大受用矣!而猶以錯過山野為J29nB244_p0742b03惴惴不安者,其於嚮慕之念固然,倘或反而求之,則J29nB244_p0742b04知自己眉毛不在他人面上、目底、意中,何必區區山J29nB244_p0742b05野為乎?本自無罪,而亦無所謂懺罪者;本自無過,而J29nB244_p0742b06亦無所謂悔過者。來翰悉矣!暫復數語以當再晤,虛J29nB244_p0742b07衷可嘉,老當益壯,惟居士勗之。
與惺世道人
J29nB244_p0742b09夏去秋來,景物迭變,惟是青山綠水流峙如常。這裡J29nB244_p0742b10會得,則知目前無不是、萬化悉皆空,空者原不變、而J29nB244_p0742b11是者亦非常,過量人又當領略于是說之外也。道人J29nB244_p0742b12近日功力若何?若有功可用則力尚未充;若無力可J29nB244_p0742b13加則功將欲到。去此二途,的的道看!山野每念道人J29nB244_p0742b14究法之苦、為道之誠,特命侍者來勘恁麼不恁麼,切J29nB244_p0742b15不得謂道人參得是、山僧問得錯也。
復眉山和尚
J29nB244_p0742b17接翰教,知雲巖法席極力提持,俱從本領作事,可見J29nB244_p0742b18因時救弊之婆心。大都近日禪流多虛少實,習體貌、J29nB244_p0742b19尚浮華、攻文辭、學機辯,拾得些殘羹餿飯,便爾自大J29nB244_p0742b20自高遏捺不住,動言:「知識可作、佛祖可超,領眾匡徒J29nB244_p0742b21不過易易。」急欲逢人賣弄、到處誇揚,曾知學道出家J29nB244_p0742b22為著何事?獨不思了生脫死豈是兒戲做得底?接物J29nB244_p0742b23利生豈是妄誕行得底?諦觀古人入一叢林、出一保J29nB244_p0742b24社,不惜筋力、不憚疲勞,忍苦耽饑、積功累行,忘身棄J29nB244_p0742b25體、百折千磨,向煩惱場中銷鎔習氣,從菩薩道上培J29nB244_p0742b26植心田,一朝果熟馨香、入廛垂手,兢兢重任、翼翼小J29nB244_p0742b27心,惟恐屈辱門庭、盲瞎晚進。至於扶危拯溺、興慈運J29nB244_p0742b28悲、調護維持、周詳委曲,苦中之苦有不忍言者,豈淺J29nB244_p0742b29薄之徒所得僥倖而勉強者哉?故聰明可尚也,而參J29nB244_p0742b30悟為難;學問可嘉也,而脩行為最;知識之名位可據J29nB244_p0742c01也,而因緣福德為艱。若非一一經嘗,那能知甘識苦?J29nB244_p0742c02弟年來與吾兄東西異地,不獲抵掌而談,所可憾者,J29nB244_p0742c03末季之世滿地狂禪習成輕薄,用賄賂而買紙付囑,J29nB244_p0742c04傍門戶而倚勢縱橫,精舍祗園變為屠居酒肆,方袍J29nB244_p0742c05圓頂不啻販客征夫,人人圖方便出身、個個從便宜J29nB244_p0742c06著腳,傷心觸目,良可痛也!弟雖獨樹孤標,於一傅眾J29nB244_p0742c07咻之地規矩繩墨,未嘗不刻刻矜持,叵耐多眾及門,J29nB244_p0742c08偷安習懶沿為慣病?遙聆法範,大有同心,曷勝欣慕?J29nB244_p0742c09聞牛首解制,即欲言旋,耑遣執事候復,並陳薄物數J29nB244_p0742c10種,惟勿以世禮相看,何如?
與墻禹九
J29nB244_p0742c12居士駕旋,前言在耳,詎忘之耶?五雲實還鄉路,再過J29nB244_p0742c13一宿,勿令白鶴之夢不得圓成,是禱!
寄何乾行
J29nB244_p0742c15我此法門,如居士依皈者固多,如居士信嚮者不少,J29nB244_p0742c16但確志不移,各各腳跟未可一例而論。此後直須同J29nB244_p0742c17類相攜,做個善與人同榜樣,則生生眷屬之言為不J29nB244_p0742c18虛也。看破中更加看破,便是功夫得力處,塵勞事事J29nB244_p0742c19易以迷人,不要著眼他人好。
復田平沙
J29nB244_p0742c21重九得華札,最喜冠蓋氣不上筆端,但恐好爵嘉猷,J29nB244_p0742c22未免依依魂夢。索我拙錄寄覽,莫道山僧寐語,便當J29nB244_p0742c23得居士茶飯。呵呵!
復王一喝
J29nB244_p0742c25閱居士書,覺舌如鎗、心如鏡,若打破鏡子、折轉鎗頭,J29nB244_p0742c26又向我儂道個甚麼?此處下得一語,種種佳供不消J29nB244_p0742c27山僧書個謝字,且道謝底是、不謝底是?
復董文學
J29nB244_p0742c29閱華翰,極為嘆賞!但山僧本自無名,法望從何而起?J29nB244_p0742c30不用耳還聞得麼?本自無言,《語錄》從何而來?不用口J29nB244_p0743a01還讀得麼?蝟叢塵勞,過量人不妨踴身跳出,至於貴J29nB244_p0743a02賤、登筵等語,又居士自為區別耳!矧夫嘉餚美饌羅J29nB244_p0743a03列滿盤,倘肯下手一任飽餐,如第空空垂涎,未免饑J29nB244_p0743a04在飯籮邊、渴居海水裡。緣分自有,相晤匪遙。若木止J29nB244_p0743a05作得傳言送語人,五雲堂也須一回親到。

寄千夫上座
J29nB244_p0743a15聞上座病瘧猶未甚平,想執事奔勞,深可念也。普賢J29nB244_p0743a16之行固所當先,然身安道隆曾有其說,上座其為道J29nB244_p0743a17自愛!
寄一指、鏡輪兩侄
J29nB244_p0743a19生死大事人人有之,生死幻跡人人不免。令師幻而J29nB244_p0743a20生、幻而死、幻而為法門遊戲,生死之跡似可不問,獨J29nB244_p0743a21是生平行誼,守朴敦誠,傾心慶忠老人之前,協力聚J29nB244_p0743a22雲一派之後,無蹶志、無詭心、無峻刻凌競之氣,純誠J29nB244_p0743a23北面,直實斷金。忠厚可懷也,以比挾聰明之資而輕J29nB244_p0743a24慢成習者,實霄壤矣;謙光可挹也,以比恃一得之見J29nB244_p0743a25而傲忽自足者,相倍蓰矣!二十餘年苦心此道,養若J29nB244_p0743a26木雞,不肯輕露頭角,拙伯常敬畏之。方期振顯門庭,J29nB244_p0743a27一旦脫去之速,深為悲痛。每念拙伯偷安異域,不能J29nB244_p0743a28奉帚執巾周旋老人座下,幸有令師克勤厥職,恃以J29nB244_p0743a29無憂。而今往矣!所望賢侄等,於令師之芳規懿軌,體J29nB244_p0743a30而行之,庶可稱孝於師而慈於祖也。哀衷莫罄,握筆J29nB244_p0743b01心酸,聊此慰勉不盡。
寄無言上座
J29nB244_p0743b03許多時不見動定,忽聞明日入關,特命瑞芝來看,並J29nB244_p0743b04寄拄杖一根,他時異日戳破天下衲僧鼻孔在。珍重!J29nB244_p0743b05珍重!
與涂惺惺空夢
J29nB244_p0743b07人生如夢,夢亦夢。居士既已空矣,古人自呼自喏,不J29nB244_p0743b08惜反覆叮嚀,若把惺惺二字一時放過,豈不辜負主J29nB244_p0743b09人公耶?寤時寐時大須仔細。
與陳像如
J29nB244_p0743b11前聆妙論,覺溪水江流俱發清響,文人異致,大段不J29nB244_p0743b12可方物,但不知近日情懷如何支遣?倘習氣猶在,止J29nB244_p0743b13宜向腳跟下打當,免得山僧更從痛處著錐可也。
寄惺若禪人
J29nB244_p0743b15聞抱恙不及親視,此心歉然。大都脩行人只是安心J29nB244_p0743b16調攝,俟其平復,看得身為苦本,一切盡情放下,把此J29nB244_p0743b17日念頭後日長保,如是便是學人得力處,所謂病中J29nB244_p0743b18好作佛事者此也。禪人記之!
寄還素禪人
J29nB244_p0743b20關山遠隔,氣誼遙通,每與上座時時覿面。客歲,佳果J29nB244_p0743b21之供自何而來?若也記得,年雖一新,人還自舊,否則J29nB244_p0743b22大家團圞頭,一番咂著最好。
復袁寶善
J29nB244_p0743b24書來欲山僧親切道一句,師資分上豈在句裡覓親J29nB244_p0743b25切耶?承供過年布衫,不可辜負來意。正月初一是新J29nB244_p0743b26年,莫言不道,居士以為何如?
與曾舜聘
J29nB244_p0743b28五雲荒廚涼薄之極,知居士為大事因緣而來,未必J29nB244_p0743b29在世禮濃澹作念。悠悠我心托之箑上,數語尊號不J29nB244_p0743b30待再更,但道與山僧同宗可耳!如何是同宗一句?○J29nB244_p0743c01參!
寄正因比丘
J29nB244_p0743c03佛幻死,山僧痛之,為其年太少也;賢徒生,山僧憐之,J29nB244_p0743c04為其年已老也。少底可痛、老底可憐,痛則痛其太速;J29nB244_p0743c05憐則憐其當忙。你若不忙,我已代為忙矣!生死非兒J29nB244_p0743c06戲,如人上山各自努力。
復冉西賡
J29nB244_p0743c08閱來書,語意真切。居士以耆年向道,當必有惟日不J29nB244_p0743c09足之思,非比托之空言以資談柄,畢竟二六時間如J29nB244_p0743c10何用力?雲巖洞中寒熱收放之語還記得麼?于斯參J29nB244_p0743c11求,久久自有入處,所謂歸而求之有餘師也。高峰脩J29nB244_p0743c12造各不相妨,果肯決志而來,那患不收作一老弟子?J29nB244_p0743c13莫直在口頭上說話。
與譚養元爵臺
J29nB244_p0743c15磐城別後,兩度春更。回思軍務忙冗時,我公每一接J29nB244_p0743c16談,猶自留心大道、著意真宗,斯則根性之不凡固足J29nB244_p0743c17尚矣!乃若深識名議、卓見諄辭,無不本於中懷之篤J29nB244_p0743c18摯,其誠切嚮往之念殆不可忘也。山野請得而申其J29nB244_p0743c19說。大抵人生天地,未有無事而虛生者,生而有事,亦J29nB244_p0743c20不過入世間事與出世間事兩者而已。夫摶亂返治、J29nB244_p0743c21應運乘時、立業建功、光前裕後,此世間事也。次而為J29nB244_p0743c22一家謀,次而為一身謀,又次而為一時一日謀。無大J29nB244_p0743c23無小、無貴無賤、無貧無富、無少無老,無不隨才隨分,J29nB244_p0743c24盡一生之精力以圖維,此做世間事者之所為也。至J29nB244_p0743c25於斷恩愛、去利名、絕是非、除煩惱、脩行學道、見性明J29nB244_p0743c26心、了死脫生、成佛作祖,此出世間事也。故有好布施J29nB244_p0743c27而證檀波羅者;有專持戒而證尸波羅者;有習禪定J29nB244_p0743c28而證禪波羅者;有行忍辱而證羼提波羅者;有脩智J29nB244_p0743c29慧而證般若波羅者;有勤精進而證毘黎耶波羅者。J29nB244_p0743c30六度為基,莊嚴萬德,無凡無聖、不減不增,此做出世J29nB244_p0744a01間事者之所為也。然亦有出世而行入世事者。表樹J29nB244_p0744a02門庭、匡扶祖道、闢邪輔正、接物利生,向生死海中倒J29nB244_p0744a03駕慈航,就娑婆界內弘宣佛化,入塵不染、對境忘機,J29nB244_p0744a04得喪不攖其胸,順逆不擾其志者是也。抑又有入世J29nB244_p0744a05而行出世事者。方便存心、慈和接眾、見善則樂、聞過J29nB244_p0744a06則改,周人之急、濟人之乏、救人之難、憫人之孤,戰退J29nB244_p0744a07癡愛魔軍,銷鎔嗔恚種子,不矜名位而棄道德、不縻J29nB244_p0744a08世網而廢參求,處處建立道場、時時興行佛事者是J29nB244_p0744a09也。我公於入世事既力行之矣,於入世而行出世事J29nB244_p0744a10復兼備之矣!其於出世事、出世而行入世事,公得毋J29nB244_p0744a11身任之乎?此亦不必其脫去塵緣、遠離俗累為也。但J29nB244_p0744a12就塵緣俗累中放些冷澹、著點清涼,看得事事匪真、J29nB244_p0744a13法法皆幻,止此本來面目歷劫常存,不可聽其塵情J29nB244_p0744a14汩沒,這便是轉身向道底根本。第一怕半信半疑、且J29nB244_p0744a15前且卻。譬如欲步長安者,未涉程途,先存退怯,空懷J29nB244_p0744a16慕道之心,終無到家時節。此無他,總於各人本分大J29nB244_p0744a17事不肯承當故耳!欲得承當個事,非是向外馳求,須J29nB244_p0744a18信心、佛、眾生原無差別。即心即佛、即生即佛,非佛非J29nB244_p0744a19心、非心非生。心、佛、眾生渾然一個,見得的、認得真,這J29nB244_p0744a20裡正好下手。廣額云:「我乃千佛中一數。」擲刀成佛有J29nB244_p0744a21甚難者?昔有僧問一老宿曰:「如何是佛?」宿云:「我要說,J29nB244_p0744a22恐汝不信。」僧云:「和尚誠言,何敢不信?」宿云:「汝便是佛!」J29nB244_p0744a23僧有省。今則喚公是佛,公其信耶、否耶?又崔趙公問J29nB244_p0744a24道欽禪師曰:「弟子欲學道參禪,得麼?」欽曰:「參禪學道J29nB244_p0744a25乃大丈夫事,非將相之所能為。」崔公被此一劄,寢食J29nB244_p0744a26不安,極力參尋,遂有悟入。今則待公為大丈夫,公其J29nB244_p0744a27任耶、否耶?果如欽師所命,則參禪甚難;果如老宿所J29nB244_p0744a28云,則成佛甚易。山野曰:「難莫難於放下,而參禪非難;J29nB244_p0744a29易莫易於成佛,而放下不易。」若能難其所易,當下立J29nB244_p0744a30證法身;若能易其所難,瞥爾掃開藤葛。久久生處漸J29nB244_p0744b01熟、熟處漸生,抹過難易關頭、踏出向上一路,自然凡J29nB244_p0744b02業淨盡、諸障銷磨,纔叫做不負己靈、不讓先聖、不由J29nB244_p0744b03塵徑、不入常流。為俗為真輥成一片、出世入世更無J29nB244_p0744b04兩般,特特立地頂天、的的揚今耀古,《傳燈》譜上少渠J29nB244_p0744b05不得、佛祖位中減伊不能,豈不快哉!豈不快哉!山野J29nB244_p0744b06這般說話,萬語千言總只為公根性非常、嚮往誠切,J29nB244_p0744b07如前所云,斷不可忘。有如斯者,不知我公近日於「無」J29nB244_p0744b08字話頭亦曾咬得碎、打得破麼?如或咬他不碎、打他J29nB244_p0744b09不破,亦曾於二六時中提得起、放得下麼?如或提他J29nB244_p0744b10不起,只須一個「參」字;如或放他不下,只須一個「進」字。J29nB244_p0744b11參到參無可參,不消提而自起;進到進無容進,不消J29nB244_p0744b12放而自下,又何愁咬他不碎、打他不破耶?所可患者,J29nB244_p0744b13秖恐公事繁難,並這話頭拋卻,未免日俟一日、年待J29nB244_p0744b14一年,念念因循、時時銷鑠,將向來覿面嘉言付與居J29nB244_p0744b15諸俱往,則非公之所以自愛,亦非山野之所以望公J29nB244_p0744b16也,公其母忘夙願而勉加精進可乎?累牘繁章,似屬J29nB244_p0744b17蛇足,再三籌度,不能無言。地遠心長,聊茲代晤,當勿J29nB244_p0744b18謂三山氏無端寐語也。嗣後因緣,姑以期之異日。
與黃皋思
J29nB244_p0744b20磐城晤時,曇華之菊莖不滿尺,今則金英放矣!別之J29nB244_p0744b21久,不覺慕之深也。季夏溯舟,居士太忙;今冬佛事,山J29nB244_p0744b22野不暇。人生閱世,大半在忙促中,第不知忙裡閑有J29nB244_p0744b23幾人得耶?若能打破此關,不妨通個消息。
與袁寶善
J29nB244_p0744b25江干春色入矣!惟是尋芳浯水,莫把萬紫千紅逐目J29nB244_p0744b26放過,令東君笑居士不具眼也。
復無言上座
J29nB244_p0744b28佛首座脫去,自知心傷。大都學道脩行,只須趁此精J29nB244_p0744b29力強健,莫被有為諸法所轉,住世一日幹一日事,不J29nB244_p0744b30可虛度。種種信供,領悉。
上復慶忠老人
J29nB244_p0744c02弟子前月,念一日病痰較之尋常頗重,服藥漸就安J29nB244_p0744c03平,煩執事遠來,不覺心傷背汗。自忖吾師未報之恩J29nB244_p0744c04與弟子未了之事,雖是虛生無益,更覺浪死為難,詎J29nB244_p0744c05曰為道愛身,尚期以身殉道而不肯以道殉人?弟子J29nB244_p0744c06今年四十有四矣!白雪臨頭、清霜染鬢,幾欲覓一蒲J29nB244_p0744c07地以自了,而多眾縈纏,去不忍恝,無奈擔當個事。得J29nB244_p0744c08人實難,如僥倖以誤後昆、苟且而辱先德,中心自矢J29nB244_p0744c09誓不敢為。萬一年力稍待,則此衷亦與俱待,又看何J29nB244_p0744c10時得個就頭冤家,仰副吾師之望也。病起拜復,不盡J29nB244_p0744c11瞻依。
與般若和尚
J29nB244_p0744c13近聞賢弟作大布施,誠為希有,但不知踏斷芒鞋腰、J29nB244_p0744c14咬著米裡蟲有幾人耳?著本圖利即不無,惟願玉印J29nB244_p0744c15江頭,年年還他一頓。
與林覲伯
J29nB244_p0744c17曲徑時蹊,奔趨者眾。做官清有守、為僧介而貧,都是J29nB244_p0744c18世間好事,若能不改故步,則所期於腳根穩當者。前J29nB244_p0744c19寄贈蒲團,莫教十分疏冷,至於話頭一句,姑待面時J29nB244_p0744c20再劄。

J29nB244_p0744c22乙未小年,兩堂首領率眾,請師敘說行實。師陞座云:J29nB244_p0744c23「山僧乃本川墊江曾氏子,自幼業儒、少列黌序、長食J29nB244_p0744c24饌堂,數次棘圍,落孫山外。兒時好嬉戲,居恒喜讀佛J29nB244_p0744c25書及先德《語錄》,遇著無意味話輒欣好不已。樂與緇J29nB244_p0744c26衣往來,或遘雲水高流,款接不忍捨去。一日,伏案雞J29nB244_p0744c27窗,有僧傳得聚雲師翁《古音王傳》至,捧讀再三,若醉J29nB244_p0744c28若醒;繼得本師《鐵老人錄》、《巴掌師錄》,焚香禮誦,心花J29nB244_p0744c29頓開;他如諸家之語入目頗多,而聲氣不浹。常自矢J29nB244_p0744c30曰:『吾異日當必為聚雲兒孫,此志弗可忘也。』自著有J29nB244_p0745a01《閑談》、《淡語》、《日息語》三書,大約皆覷破世情、鐸醒幻夢J29nB244_p0745a02之句。幾思頓脫塵網,奈父兄以功名責望甚殷,不能J29nB244_p0745a03自遂。二十六歲,先慈逝,越三年,家君亦古。大事甫終,J29nB244_p0745a04便欲離俗。不兩月,寇氛四起,逃之半載,室氏病亡,以J29nB244_p0745a05兩兒托之長兄,遂從弔巖山南、浙二師祝髮。避兵江J29nB244_p0745a06南,寓忠州東明寺,聞老人卓錫石峰,奉書上候,得老J29nB244_p0745a07人復,字中有『似忍賢座不過』之語,讀之嘆曰:『這老漢J29nB244_p0745a08恁麼老婆心切!』遂入山參禮。相依半月被南師強之J29nB244_p0745a09入黔,值伯兄宦,旋接之入楚。伯兄奉使憲副,將偕入J29nB244_p0745a10滇,兵阻乃得返蜀。伯兄每謂山僧曰:『脩行雖善,但出J29nB244_p0745a11處大事未可草草,有志者不宜然。』山僧笑而不答。且J29nB244_p0745a12謂:『兵戈載道,舉足有性命之憂,直宜弟兄聚首,躲此J29nB244_p0745a13劫運。』山僧從之。及戊子,同伯兄轉南濱,時老人住青J29nB244_p0745a14山頂。冬月念二夜,堂中笑亭維那夢一人奇形異狀,J29nB244_p0745a15持黃緞一端來供老人,老人受之,即命亭援筆大書J29nB244_p0745a16『以此成正覺』五字。亭晨興述夢以白老人,老人答曰:J29nB244_p0745a17『當必有繼佛真乘者來作吾家種草,汝且聽之!』比午,J29nB244_p0745a18山僧果至。老人一見乃曰:『莫不是曾不波耶?』山僧曰:J29nB244_p0745a19『和尚莫眼花!』老人發笑。時眉山上座居首位,三日後J29nB244_p0745a20即安山僧入堂領個沒得話頭終朝咀嚼。老人不許J29nB244_p0745a21看一文字,眉上座亦不提及一語,幸掌師同住青山,J29nB244_p0745a22得以功夫不時請益。山僧又因弱質不能隨眾,數次J29nB244_p0745a23辭行。一日老人普告大眾曰:『我辛苦二十餘年,今纔J29nB244_p0745a24得個檐擔人來,不能容此,我師徒持缽別行就是。』山J29nB244_p0745a25僧聞此淚雨如流,跪白老人曰:『某甲斷不敢辜負和J29nB244_p0745a26尚!』老人曰:『汝但莫辜負自己。』從此安心座下。雖鶉衣J29nB244_p0745a27百結不知其寒、藜藿三餐不求其飽,一味塞耳埋頭J29nB244_p0745a28艱忍萬狀,苦參兩月了無入處。初則歷歷明明目不J29nB244_p0745a29交睫,繼則昏沉漸起話頭亦忘,久則話頭現成竟沒J29nB244_p0745a30巴鼻,後則胸臆慌慌,坐不能坐、行不能行、睡不能睡、J29nB244_p0745b01飲不能飲、食不能食,昏悶幾於欲死。以其狀泣白掌J29nB244_p0745b02師,掌師低首不應,良久徵曰:『汝果到此耶?不久自有J29nB244_p0745b03消息。快參快參!』山僧拌死一回計,自戊子冬月念六J29nB244_p0745b04日入堂到己丑念六夜。適亭上座閱錄次,山僧隔案J29nB244_p0745b05伸首,見嚴陽尊者問趙州:『一物不將來時如何?』州云:J29nB244_p0745b06『放下著!』不覺肢節俱解,渾身輕快,乃撫案一下大笑J29nB244_p0745b07不止。亭曰:『見個甚麼?』山僧驀與一掌,亭儘力一推,山J29nB244_p0745b08僧當趨方丈見老人。老人曰:『作麼作麼?』山僧撫掌三J29nB244_p0745b09下,老人曰:『落在甚處?』山僧作舞而出,老人不肯。後二J29nB244_p0745b10日,隨老人、掌師山行次,見浮雲東西飛度,山僧問曰:J29nB244_p0745b11『浮雲落在何處?』老人向空一指曰:『看!』掌師驀面一掌,J29nB244_p0745b12山僧作禮,由是腳根乃得點地。又二日,亭上座舉『無J29nB244_p0745b13夢無想主人公』機緣問山僧,山僧答已,復令著頌,乃J29nB244_p0745b14曰:『你答也答得,著也著得,拈頌也拈頌得,只是會不J29nB244_p0745b15得。』山僧曰:『善能高鑒!』亭上座始述前夢以告山僧,並J29nB244_p0745b16敘發悟之原,兩人巧於相值,山僧曰:『寐語作麼?』亭呵J29nB244_p0745b17呵大笑。又二日,眉上座問曰:『你前此若何?』山僧曰:『大J29nB244_p0745b18似老鼠鑽牛角。』『你即今若何?』山僧曰:『大似蚊子上鐵J29nB244_p0745b19牛。』眉上座教看古人淆訛公案,山僧拈頌百則進呈J29nB244_p0745b20老人,老人曰:『用絡索作麼?』山僧禮拜而退。己丑,掌師J29nB244_p0745b21應鳳衛侯之請,山僧許作書記。及到都會,掌師將衣J29nB244_p0745b22缽付耳庵上座,先期脫去,留偈遺囑山僧。彼地僧俗J29nB244_p0745b23請山僧上堂。拈香畢,乃云:『來上座自遭毒手,幾回白J29nB244_p0745b24汗,今日直得當陽舉出。』驀豎拂子云:『直下來也。大眾J29nB244_p0745b25會麼?』放下拂子云:『又作麼生?』良久,震威一喝。山僧通J29nB244_p0745b26嗣法書上老人,老人復曰:『巴掌那笨漢既卸擔於汝,J29nB244_p0745b27汝好好擔著。』有西脈禪人請住楚之九峰山白雲靜J29nB244_p0745b28室,近載出山省覲老人於靈峰。一期入室,老人問及J29nB244_p0745b29末後句,山僧擬對,老人曰:『不是不是!』遲兩期,又擬進J29nB244_p0745b30語,老人曰:『不是不是!』老人引則機緣示山僧,山僧忘J29nB244_p0745c01寢食者三晝夜,一宵開靜後忽然穎脫,次早進謁老J29nB244_p0745c02人,老人竟不與語,周旋竟期亦不與語。至夜,老人上J29nB244_p0745c03單,山僧作禮辭出,腳纔跨門,老人遽問曰:『末後句作J29nB244_p0745c04麼生?』山僧祗對。翼日,老人撾鼓上堂曰:『也大奇!也大J29nB244_p0745c05奇!末後句,妙難思。汝等諸人知麼?那門外漢不是老J29nB244_p0745c06僧悄地引則機緣,又爭得進門?聽吾偈:「全身放下隱J29nB244_p0745c07山隈,頭角纔成喜兩開,展轉由吾相分付,雷轟電掣J29nB244_p0745c08出潛來。」』即令山僧秉拂依住一載。山僧因及門頗多,J29nB244_p0745c09率眾北渡,荷姚鎮臺留居興龍,開荒彌歲並不談及J29nB244_p0745c10禪道佛法。老人移錫石寶,山僧出江躬禮,不料袁寶J29nB244_p0745c11善居士恭請開法崇聖,老人仍將衣缽、杖拂交代山J29nB244_p0745c12僧。又有領眾代勞,無忘悲願之囑。汝等參隨已久,須J29nB244_p0745c13是一番努力!為山僧解擔解交。多得幾個替代,豈非J29nB244_p0745c14快事?以上絡索,述之慚惶,實不可欺。」書記存錄。
