J26nB188_p0815c05若昔大猷載在儒典,靜言圮族有誅,慢自賢、志自滿J26nB188_p0815c06有誅,朋家作讎、作威、作不典有誅。所稱唐虞之際,三J26nB188_p0815c07代之英,設坊自上,猶有險膚譸張聒聒屑屑之辭,胥J26nB188_p0815c08動多方,而下濫為庶人之議者。嗚呼!非天子不議,議J26nB188_p0815c09逮庶人即天子不復可問,而天其或者于庶人中篤J26nB188_p0815c10生大人焉,俾以直議誅橫議而收其後,如鄉原之議J26nB188_p0815c11狂議狷,楊墨之議仁議義,其言教嘗碎、其議嘗橫而J26nB188_p0815c12誣,必如孔子之議鄉原,名之曰德賊;孟子之議楊墨,J26nB188_p0815c13名之曰道賊,而群碎乃帖然,而議乃大定。此之謂齒J26nB188_p0815c14齊舌廣和合諍鬥,具大人相作直心道場者是耶。我J26nB188_p0815c15聞《仁王經》云:「若國欲亂,鬼神先亂;鬼神亂故萬人亂。」J26nB188_p0815c16亂所自起,亦維曰:國之王臣互相是非而已。是非在J26nB188_p0815c17國,且以開亂,況在天子不問之草莽人乎?況在天子J26nB188_p0815c18不臣之方外人乎?嗚呼!越自菩提多羅翻四七之後J26nB188_p0815c19勁,作二三之前茅,衣法傳,是非亦傳;中間六試毒而J26nB188_p0815c20三揮劍。西乾東震,剩有宿債應償;北教南宗,誰是一J26nB188_p0815c21枝橫出?競飲分河之水,爭操入室之戈,古既有之,於J26nB188_p0815c22今為裂,斯亦大人收後之時矣。問誰其人?僉曰:弁山J26nB188_p0815c23瑞白禪師,蓋以身任之。師樅陽楊氏子,法諱明雪,署J26nB188_p0815c24號入就,諸方字之曰瑞白禪師。方毀齔,遽脫左髦,事J26nB188_p0815c25母卓以孝聞。比學禮之年,失恃而為之袝,曾不能飲J26nB188_p0815c26杯圈,則既田衣菅屨,持𨩲唱跋,思以三尊之教度二J26nB188_p0815c27親矣。九華慧公,其薙染師也。有休公者,激發之,使見J26nB188_p0815c28知識。于是始有事南詢香積,取諸分衛,旦過取諸半J26nB188_p0815c29跏,漂梗栖苴,都無一向。邂逅紫柏之徒,授以毘舍浮J26nB188_p0815c30偈,頗受持之。歷幕山之門,惎之閱教,非其好也。慕雲J26nB188_p0816a01棲蓮公之為人,造問作止任滅四病,曰:「只莫生心取J26nB188_p0816a02圓覺,師出四病也。」師拜其語,受具而去。聞《首楞嚴》別J26nB188_p0816a03業同分二見,忽覺根身器界,燈影日暈而已。前所持J26nB188_p0816a04偈,亦自洞然。無何,且病病,輒不能自主,始信圓明禪J26nB188_p0816a05師有云:「十二韋陀典,一標月之指」耳。昔在祖師說法,J26nB188_p0816a06華墜天、蓮湧地,尚未出離生死,況是區區者何濟?庚J26nB188_p0816a07戌春,聞諸道路,雲門顯聖有至人焉,曰湛然大師。師J26nB188_p0816a08攝衣往從之,問:「向來作甚麼?」師曰:「持毘舍偈。」曰:「四大J26nB188_p0816a09是假,妄心是空,阿誰拖你者死屍來?」師罔然為鈍置J26nB188_p0816a10者久之。至第七夜,于延慶殿立香,忽地湧起,不離當J26nB188_p0816a11處嘗湛然,覓即知君不可見,方曉前旨。及被人問著J26nB188_p0816a12譊訛,正復在揚州越國間。辛亥歸顯聖坐禪,不語者J26nB188_p0816a13百日,不眠者數七,奮迅之氣,猛于捉象。甲寅春,隨雲J26nB188_p0816a14門遷廣孝,聞上堂激揚機語,大非思量所及,不覺痛J26nB188_p0816a15哭,自誓曰:「死也罷,活也罷,拚此一生去。」工夫既成片,J26nB188_p0816a16視向來差省力矣。小參,舉斬貓因緣,師於言下知有,J26nB188_p0816a17將蒲團拋出,雲門曰:「一語下徐州。」時有同參通文墨J26nB188_p0816a18者頌之,自謂佳。師不肯,乃信口曰:「提起劍,斬卻貓,一J26nB188_p0816a19段春光人不曉。南泉舉似作家子,趙州老人頭戴草。J26nB188_p0816a20頭戴草,凜凜威風振華表。」同參亦不肯,進而質之雲J26nB188_p0816a21門。門曰:「不通文者佳。」會從橋上過,垂一語云:「溪水潺J26nB188_p0816a22潺。」眾下語皆不契。師曰:「敲空有響,擊木無聲。」雲門頷J26nB188_p0816a23之。嗣入室,師一一詣實而供,門曰:「自今以往,休去歇J26nB188_p0816a24去。」師猶不自肯,更加精彩,因聞鐘聲,瞥地大徹,灼然J26nB188_p0816a25有一到家休歇處。自是機辨峭拔,尟有嬰其鋒者。尚J26nB188_p0816a26自陸沉眾中,隨侍雲門巾瓶,赴徑山、應東塔為下板J26nB188_p0816a27也。丙辰春往皖公山養靜,只一茆龕,廣可十磔手、輪J26nB188_p0816a28可四十膚,時與何太師芝嶽伽陀酬唱不啻,公美之。J26nB188_p0816a29遇斷際慮別有旨,不關紙墨事。己未下山,訪黃蘗無J26nB188_p0816a30念大士,盤桓信宿。念謂侍僧曰:「者衲子他時有把茆J26nB188_p0816b01蓋頭在。」次第訪憨山大師、養菴老宿、博山和尚,諸大J26nB188_p0816b02老各有機緣,並見語錄。師之引重諸方,亦略可見矣。J26nB188_p0816b03庚申歸省雲門,明年屏居天柱峰,即宛委也。癸亥顯J26nB188_p0816b04聖結冬,龍象麇至,擢師為第二座。初苦堂規不整,師J26nB188_p0816b05有意振之,偶如廁遲歸,為止靜者所誰何,即長跪佛J26nB188_p0816b06前作▆,一眾肅然,一期斬然。正使道學先生見之,亦J26nB188_p0816b07當謂三代樂禮盡在是乎?雲門念師分座為勞,利生J26nB188_p0816b08時至,欲有所付。師底力辭之,珍重如千年桃正熟,不J26nB188_p0816b09易作退華杏子摘卻也。甲子誅茆鐵壁,居雲水,往來J26nB188_p0816b10如織。有僧問:「如何是無夢無想主人?」公曰:「鐵壁山高。」J26nB188_p0816b11僧曰:「莫便是麼?」曰:「是即頭上安頭,不是即撥波求水。」J26nB188_p0816b12僧曰:「無是無非,是否?」曰:「無是無非,死水身栖。」一日,有J26nB188_p0816b13女人上山,師曰:「遮裡不著神錢,社火去。」昔少年苾芻J26nB188_p0816b14指雲峰為不通方漢,此又過之矣。乙丑參金粟,入門J26nB188_p0816b15便喝,粟曰:「好喝。」師連喝兩喝,便禮拜,粟打一棒。人事J26nB188_p0816b16畢,值抬船次,師曰:「虛空駕鐵船時如何?」粟便打。師接J26nB188_p0816b17住拄杖曰:「波浪湧千尋時如何?」粟欲打,脫拄杖不得。J26nB188_p0816b18師曰:「和尚無下手處。」粟曰:「且道承誰人力?」師鳴指一J26nB188_p0816b19下,粟微笑而歸,留師為第二座。每粟上堂,師必出眾J26nB188_p0816b20作一番哮吼蹴踏,馬群為之一空。粟蓋屬意焉。當此J26nB188_p0816b21之時,所謂天下權在信,只爭左右投耳。而師顧未之J26nB188_p0816b22許,意謂嗣粟則孤雲門也,乃行。丙寅歸雲門,呈偈曰:J26nB188_p0816b23「蒙師饒舌十餘年,本分繇來不可傳。有見原非解脫J26nB188_p0816b24道,無心豈是祖師禪?三玄四喝閒家具,五位君臣總J26nB188_p0816b25白拈。欲識老胡親的旨,金烏夜半麗中天。」雲門曰:「語J26nB188_p0816b26無滲漏,不落正偏,是真個曹洞兒孫。」遂付衣法,並偈J26nB188_p0816b27曰:「誕生原是自心名,空裏栽花本現成。滿口道來無J26nB188_p0816b28可道,威音那畔幾知音?」嗣為洞山三十二世也。師既J26nB188_p0816b29受囑,累欲隱南嶽,未果行。而雲門逝,眾請繼席焉。師J26nB188_p0816b30仍然西南向,以讓有德。戊辰姜太史箴勝諸檀護,洎J26nB188_p0816c01闔山勤請,事不獲已,則應之。得坐披衣後,自有本分J26nB188_p0816c02鉗鎚、作家罏韝,不妨鈍鐵點作純金,而躍冶之子不J26nB188_p0816c03堪重鍛。又如真藥現前,拈得便用,玅手所觸,殺活自J26nB188_p0816c04繇。而初學鹵莽,但竊其似,未免認杜漏藍作綿州附J26nB188_p0816c05子,自誤誤人,過亦不在醫王,此可明乎?無師之智,不J26nB188_p0816c06從人授,師亦未嘗有定法授人也。本分繇來不可傳,J26nB188_p0816c07只此一語與他湛老人作供養足矣。時師有雲門三J26nB188_p0816c08種獅子頌,鱠炙藂林。庚午夏,將有終南之役。經吳興,J26nB188_p0816c09為吳興所遮道,住弁山龍華寺。纔駐錫,越中士紳倪J26nB188_p0816c10太史鴻寶、徐藩侯亮生、李學憲玉完請于延慶開堂。J26nB188_p0816c11蜡月歸弁山,殿宇初搆。明年,有一闡提者,將不和於J26nB188_p0816c12法門。孝廉張魯平以書勸師稍避之。師曰:「我自以法J26nB188_p0816c13道,陰翼王度,苟無愧心,何避之有?」不聽所云。陰翼王J26nB188_p0816c14度,語出柳子厚。我J26nB188_p0816c15明太祖嘗引此以陽翼佛法,豈非法王翼人王、人王J26nB188_p0816c16亦翼法王,大人作略先後同揆,使彼蠢爾小醜,早見J26nB188_p0816c17御製文,愧死猶晚矣。無何,唐總憲存憶入山,蓋亦有J26nB188_p0816c18聞而來。先是道場山,請雲門說法。緣會未期,唐孝廉J26nB188_p0816c19祈遠每念及,則以未事雲門為憾,嗣聞師風如歷饑J26nB188_p0816c20渴,遂橫身荷之。而師之開法於弁,爾時道價頓傾流J26nB188_p0816c21輩,逼亞老南矣。是秋,受沈司寇何山、閔太宰曾泉、朱J26nB188_p0816c22太師平▆、韓狀元求仲請主白雀。師平凡概以佛法J26nB188_p0816c23接人,會有俗客過訪,不相見而去。師曰:「亦不孤他來J26nB188_p0816c24意。監」院請云:「何不遂以三門外接下等人禮接之。」師J26nB188_p0816c25曰:「若爾,何謂平等?」自是有感鐵面一缽五湖之志矣。
J26nB188_p0816c26解制,復歸龍華。師他日無故不出山,即會下人,總不J26nB188_p0816c27許應人佛事。雖嘗住時有緩急,亦不許那借人物。嘗J26nB188_p0816c28曰:「隨家豐儉,有飯則飯,無飯則粥,無粥則散。」更不喜J26nB188_p0816c29人間慶弔禮及行苞苴酬酢,曰:「此謂污他家,行惡行。J26nB188_p0816c30佛制所不許。」癸酉,胡冏卿璞菴、劉納言念臺、董璽卿J26nB188_p0817a01皇庭、徐觀察檀燕、王制臺峨雲、丁宮端歐石、邢銓部J26nB188_p0817a02淇瞻、倪侍御三闌、余中秘武貞請師蕺山戒珠寺開J26nB188_p0817a03堂,眾倍白雀。甲戌,還弁山,紺殿落成,眾倍戒珠。乙亥,J26nB188_p0817a04陶給諫虎溪、啇開府等軒請住天台護國寺。將行,嚴J26nB188_p0817a05比部充涵率諸子侄登山相留,師曰:「許之矣,不可爽。」J26nB188_p0817a06比入院,百廢畢舉,多年埋沒之招提,一旦恢復。秋還J26nB188_p0817a07弁山。明年,以病謝院事,挽之不可,乃飄然一往,意在J26nB188_p0817a08終南也。艤舟湖口,為石尤所阻。鄰舫一贛客見師異J26nB188_p0817a09之,扣所往,曰:「此中有山名崆峒,拔地數萬仞,泉石殊J26nB188_p0817a10勝,足可樂道,何必終南?」師遽移舟登巔,一覽則二水J26nB188_p0817a11夾馳,眴目離合,魚龍猿狖在空濛縹緲中,徹頂徹底J26nB188_p0817a12別開眼界。師樂之,若將終身焉。未幾,吳興書來趣歸J26nB188_p0817a13弁,不許。汀州、太和各有書抵師,爭以名藍相延,皆不J26nB188_p0817a14許。承古有言,蟻尋腥走,蠅向臭飛,問道之履亦未嘗J26nB188_p0817a15不填戶外也。 建安王欽師道望,齎尺一牘,殷勤幣J26nB188_p0817a16聘,住持洪都百丈山。師雅慕百丈,乃隨機赴之,挾襆J26nB188_p0817a17追逐者百餘衲,舳艫相銜而進。至瑞州則兵守之矣,J26nB188_p0817a18蓋是邏倅驚謂寇至,報之官司,將以獻首功幕府耳。J26nB188_p0817a19師為軒渠一笑。幕府知之,遣官衛之上山。師到山,亦J26nB188_p0817a20第舉所謂百丈清規而重巽之。時復荷鍤與作務人J26nB188_p0817a21俱,人謂大智再來也。何期化緣畢於此,明春穀日,示J26nB188_p0817a22微疾,調眾益篤,譚笑自如。三月十九遲明起浴,謂侍J26nB188_p0817a23者曰:「扶老僧入龕去。」小間手書偈曰:「來亦無一物,去J26nB188_p0817a24亦無一物。若知端的意,百丈花稍月。」擲筆以手招眾。J26nB188_p0817a25眾前,師已吉祥而逝矣,日正卓午也。師示生萬曆甲J26nB188_p0817a26申十一月二十六日戌時,示寂崇禎辛巳三月十九J26nB188_p0817a27日午時,世壽五十有八,僧臘三十有八。塔全身於弁J26nB188_p0817a28山龍華乙山辛向,正面方山,師所筮也。 建安差官J26nB188_p0817a29設祭,議欲留龕,見遺命但存髮塔於百丈。先是弁山J26nB188_p0817a30報塔工竣,師手書曰:「訃到便來接龕。」復大署紙尾云:J26nB188_p0817b01「老僧不過四月矣。」又書真讚有「再過十日」之語,凡皆J26nB188_p0817b02預知時至也。師行腳十三年,未常解衣臥。及出世,止J26nB188_p0817b03衣草布,諸所創建僅蔽風雨,曰:「吾傚雲棲之作法。」涼J26nB188_p0817b04也,喜蒔竹木。去之日,猶加灌溉功。或謂之多事,曰:「招J26nB188_p0817b05提在也。」嘗解衣,衣窮乏,或謂之不均,曰:周急所以均J26nB188_p0817b06也,病者藥石之,老者扶持之,有所諾,無或許而不予,J26nB188_p0817b07無或不時予,予則忘之,無或責報。天懷坦率,提獎風J26nB188_p0817b08流,與人相遊光霽中。逼拶學人,則不稍假顏色。遇侍J26nB188_p0817b09者尤嚴,每痛像季不重木叉,雖所犯輕,必重繩之,曰:J26nB188_p0817b10「五分法身尚不成就,又能全該三德乎?」其垂訓初學,J26nB188_p0817b11必曰:「僧不看《遺教經》,法王之叛臣也。」故所在匡徒雖J26nB188_p0817b12眾,初不濫竽,四食三衣,如法學習,以期于事存高素,J26nB188_p0817b13歸趣聖方,要有不落今時者。師之身律蓋如此,見學J26nB188_p0817b14人久不還鄉,師賢之;或告歸寧,師亦賢之,囑曰:「使父J26nB188_p0817b15母知出世之因,豈不踰勝世孝萬萬。」師之錫類又如J26nB188_p0817b16此。乃至嘻笑怒罵,布武布席、一欠一伸一涕唾,無不J26nB188_p0817b17可作佛事者。每見人墮邪道中,必起同體悲,導入正J26nB188_p0817b18道。或其人己眼本正,因師故邪,了無一長,先學慢我,J26nB188_p0817b19則教中有云:「如諸蠕動,實不推理,而舉螯張鬐,怒目J26nB188_p0817b20自大,是為斷慧命人,不忍不急救之。」然是導師之過,J26nB188_p0817b21又不得不從發病處,一根挌之。首座敷諫曰:「鬥諍世J26nB188_p0817b22界,以諍諍諍,彼亦謂諍。奈何?」師曰:「摧邪輔正,令法久J26nB188_p0817b23住,佛之願也。吾為此懼,又復何懼?」師故倔強,他日嘗J26nB188_p0817b24謂我為法王,於法自在,故行止自主,絕不傍人,而一J26nB188_p0817b25時正人君子,頗以是增而重焉。吳太史觀我云:「吾邑J26nB188_p0817b26之有弁山,猶龍舒之有博山。此非尋嘗,定知地湧菩J26nB188_p0817b27薩不忘慈誓,以佛知見為我等輩留影是邦。」知言哉!J26nB188_p0817b28蓋此洞彼濟門戶之分,已非一朝一夕,師用意良獨J26nB188_p0817b29苦顧,又未嘗不嘉興為和合也,而曰千流萬派,一源J26nB188_p0817b30而出,在西域當尊迦葉為始,在東土當尊達磨為始。J26nB188_p0817c01今後當稱達磨幾十世,則舉本該末矣,謂之尊稱達J26nB188_p0817c02磨正宗說。倘亦靈源自稱釋迦文四十八世孫之旨,J26nB188_p0817c03而向所云齒齊舌廣具大人相,師蓋其人乎!師九坐J26nB188_p0817c04道場,別有語錄流傳,并闢判十餘卷,異方便一卷。得J26nB188_p0817c05法三十餘人,曰久默音、曰孤崖聰、歷然相、離言義、嘯J26nB188_p0817c06雲蘊數輩而下,詳在行錄中,不具列。裕入山以來,焚J26nB188_p0817c07筆研有年矣,尤遜不敢為諸尊宿作邈真語,亦小避J26nB188_p0817c08諍風嫌於佐鬥之意。而起元生公是三十人中一數,J26nB188_p0817c09持弁山法嗣久默音公等書狀來,命裕為塔上之銘,J26nB188_p0817c10重以唐孝廉祈遠為之,紹一再往,返不聽辭。謹序其J26nB188_p0817c11事,而為之銘。銘曰:
J26nB188_p0817c12菩薩戒弟子石頭布衲道裕,前通議大夫,四任職J26nB188_p0817c28方郎。初以劾政府,J26nB188_p0817c29予告再,以不奉J26nB188_p0817c30詔忤逆璫,為民三。以覆疏錯一字降調。兩J26nB188_p0818a01賜環,一奉J26nB188_p0818a02御劄以清執還原官,以籌邊功。歷太僕太常卿,巡撫J26nB188_p0818a03 山東,以登撫兵變併逮謫高涼。今以甘肅舊功,蒙J26nB188_p0818a04特恩,復初服還。

J26nB188_p0818a06憶昔雲門湛大師最後說法吾郡道場山,甫四日,而J26nB188_p0818a07魔作罷去。余時鄉居相距百里,雖同郡莫以告者,不J26nB188_p0818a08知也。既而雲門道經吾里,始獲一瞻晬容,別未幾示J26nB188_p0818a09寂。俄而弁山彌勒峰之麓,有泊然宴坐者,距郡郭又J26nB188_p0818a10數十里,余亦不知也。明年,門者呈張孝廉魯平居士J26nB188_p0818a11募冊,余展閱次,始知有瑞白大師云。以示兒子竑,竑J26nB188_p0818a12臥疾久,欣然曰:「雲門法嗣也。向者交臂失之,引領道J26nB188_p0818a13場,山有餘歉焉,盍以今人之東隅,補昔人之桑榆乎?」J26nB188_p0818a14余曰:「汝病未能出,吾先往。」往則彌望荒萊,數椽闃如J26nB188_p0818a15徒四壁立,衲僧數輩,菜色藍縷,師氣宇巋然,如蒞千J26nB188_p0818a16眾,留余同飯,一菜而已。時闡提乘墉,謗讟騰播,聞於J26nB188_p0818a17當道,余為白焉,始有寧宇。師初至,人無知者,坐是名J26nB188_p0818a18乃著,緇素日漸奔湊。蓋五年,而向之荒萊,漸成寶坊。J26nB188_p0818a19然無歲不出,其赴天台請也,曰:「不歸矣。」黑白敦請始J26nB188_p0818a20歸。歸未幾,復飄然長往。往之日,曰:「將詣終南。」俄聞卓J26nB188_p0818a21錫虔南之崆峒山,黑白敦請還吳,歲歲不輟如初。而J26nB188_p0818a22師一別五年,俄聞赴百丈請。又未幾,復飄然長往,則J26nB188_p0818a23盡大地人覓蹤影不可得矣。嗚呼!師何往乎?葉落歸J26nB188_p0818a24根,知再來否乎?於是兒子竑持行狀來,得細讀之,始J26nB188_p0818a25知其願之堅也、行之力也、證之真也。其落䰂之地曰J26nB188_p0818a26九華聚龍庵。當執爨時,決志超凡。既聞悟明心地之J26nB188_p0818a27言,昕夕以之。出門參方,初誦舍浮偈,繼遊講肆,所至J26nB188_p0818a28若有負者。聞外道語,如水投石。即有證有得。復自策J26nB188_p0818a29彌篤。至聞雲門一伽陀,慟哭,拚身命以從事,啐啄時J26nB188_p0818a30至,雲門印之矣。猶若不釋然者,必無憾而後即安堅J26nB188_p0818b01矣哉!其願也至!其行腳,自離灶下養即遍四方,瓢衲J26nB188_p0818b02外百無一儲,孤村乞而古廟栖,寒夜無衾者十有三J26nB188_p0818b03年。己事未明,皇皇焉,自鞭其後。嘗百日不語,晝夜不J26nB188_p0818b04交睫以求之。每奮迅,輒曰:「死即死耳,不返顧也。」凍餒J26nB188_p0818b05所侵,患傷寒瀕死者三。晚年病肺而畏寒,每冬日熾J26nB188_p0818b06薪,室中自溫,頭面為赤。或規之師曰:「而豈知吾昔年J26nB188_p0818b07苦哉?」既出世為人,仍稟毘尼甚嚴,御下一遵規繩,不J26nB188_p0818b08少貸,小踰越譙呵及之,侍者數受笞終無怨者。初住J26nB188_p0818b09顯聖,為兄弟藂林動患掣肘,不遂意,棄而渡江止弁J26nB188_p0818b10山,荊榛蛇虎之區,墾土結茆栖焉,衲子時往從之。吾J26nB188_p0818b11郡禪宗久廢,閭閻從不聞百丈規,何事相與怪之,謗J26nB188_p0818b12且撼者百出。既鳴官,或駭曰:「捕者至矣!」魯平居士虛J26nB188_p0818b13精舍邀師蹔避,學徒喜慫恿之。師罵曰:「癡眾生,世豈J26nB188_p0818b14有畏難善知識耶?苟無捍禁網、梗J26nB188_p0818b15皇化,脫有意外聽之耳。難可苟免乎?」安坐如初?久之,J26nB188_p0818b16耳目所薰,漸生渴仰。今本山著姓李,舉族皈依,道德J26nB188_p0818b17所感也。達官貴人欲致師一面,師曰:「苟慕道,彼不能J26nB188_p0818b18來乎?」有比丘尼遊諸大家,老矣入山,禮師自請募千J26nB188_p0818b19金建剎,乞下院開,女期所獲檀施,悉輸嘗住。師不許,J26nB188_p0818b20監院方苦匱乏,從容言:「下院距寺數十里而遙。四部J26nB188_p0818b21弟子古固有之,何害?」師曰:「彼借龍華為名,相距遠,終J26nB188_p0818b22吾屬也。且今安得如古?汝曹聚首學道,當道猶兢兢J26nB188_p0818b23慮之,況尼乎!龍天道場即匱乏,有尸其責者吾,何藉J26nB188_p0818b24千金為?」監院曰:「彼遊朱門,縱不藉其力,奈騰謗何?」師J26nB188_p0818b25毅然曰:「吾無可謗,復何慮?」卒不許。嘗住窘,戒那貸,曰:J26nB188_p0818b26「有飯則飯,無飯則粥,無粥則散,一那貸即錯因果矣。」J26nB188_p0818b27龍華草創,艱苦備嘗,甫就緒,忽棄之他適,緇素奔走J26nB188_p0818b28懇留,有跪且泣者,師翻然出門,竟不顧。初居崆峒,改J26nB188_p0818b29號結團瓢截枯木支茆,匠者欲加琢,不許。同居不過J26nB188_p0818b30十餘人,辭歸者復數人,師獨樂之,將終焉。俄而學人J26nB188_p0818c01四合,紳衿虛席請說法,師復避之南雲山,眾迎還崆J26nB188_p0818c02峒。江右 建安王慕師道風,馳書幣請重興洪都百J26nB188_p0818c03丈山。師聞,慨然曰:「天下清規所自出也,兆足以行矣。J26nB188_p0818c04吾縱老病其忍辭?」遄赴之,取道瑞州,值有司以寇警J26nB188_p0818c05毖功,令干掫戒嚴。比丘百餘警而相告曰:「數千群起,J26nB188_p0818c06誰何之?」邑令親入舟,見師不覺意消,曰:「此豈為惡者J26nB188_p0818c07耶?」加禮犒從者而去。撫軍聞,初以兵至,既得實,乃聽J26nB188_p0818c08師住百丈,但戒途次勿留,多人而已。師到院,修大智J26nB188_p0818c09之廢墜,擬荷鋤力作,為四眾先,而病魔數撓之。伏枕J26nB188_p0818c10次,問道乞偈者,未嘗不諄諄答也,且招之曰:「及吾能J26nB188_p0818c11答。」時病已棘,語期期不辨矣。猶伸紙疾書代面命,蓋J26nB188_p0818c12始終未嘗先四大而後人也。力矣哉!其行也,若乃證J26nB188_p0818c13入之深密,濟不敏,何能悉之?姑述其可傳者。首參雲J26nB188_p0818c14棲,問:「作止任滅四病,如何出得?」棲曰:「從汝作止任滅,J26nB188_p0818c15但莫生心取圓覺,即出四病也。」參黃蘗,問:「學人千里J26nB188_p0818c16遠來,乞師指示。」蘗曰:「佛法那可指示?」問:「可保任否?」蘗J26nB188_p0818c17罵曰:「保任個甚麼?」師畫一圓相,蘗便掌,師拂袖出。蘗J26nB188_p0818c18顧旁僧曰:「這僧卻有把茅蓋頭在。」參憨山,問:「一塵不J26nB188_p0818c19立時如何?」憨曰:「曾到此未?」師曰:「若到,即塵也。」憨變色J26nB188_p0818c20曰:「野狐精弄虛頭。」參峰頂,問:「雪覆千山,和尚如何為J26nB188_p0818c21人?」頂便掌。師曰:「莫就是為人處否?」頂曰:「我同汝看雪。」J26nB188_p0818c22看雪次,師曰:「正當爾時,狐狸野干都無蹤跡。」頂曰:「止J26nB188_p0818c23有師子在。」師曰:「亦是野干。」參博山,山問:「何來?」師曰:「桐J26nB188_p0818c24城。」山曰:「風景較此何如?」師曰:「處處綠楊堪繫馬。」山曰:J26nB188_p0818c25「猶作此解?」推案入方丈。師曰:「又恁麼去也。」參金粟,入J26nB188_p0818c26門便喝。粟曰:「好喝。」師復連喝,便禮拜,粟便打。抬船次,J26nB188_p0818c27師曰:「虛空駕鐵船時如何?」粟便打。師接住曰:「波浪湧J26nB188_p0818c28千尋時如何?」粟欲打,曳杖不能脫。師曰:「和尚無下手J26nB188_p0818c29處。」粟曰:「且道承誰人力?」師鳴指一下,粟微笑而歸。粟J26nB188_p0818c30上堂,師時為第二座,問曰:「正偏兼帶即不問,臨濟家J26nB188_p0819a01風事若何?」粟便打。師云:「金雞唱落中天月,泥猿吼盡J26nB188_p0819a02五更風。」粟曰:「再犯不容。」普茶,師問:「慈雲普覆三千界,J26nB188_p0819a03只怕冬寒一夜風。秪如狂風四起,和尚向甚處立?」粟J26nB188_p0819a04曰:「一腳踢汝。」師曰:「恁麼則秦駐山前端然坐,金粟峰J26nB188_p0819a05頭任往還。」粟曰:「汝要第二腳耶?」師禮拜歸位。上堂,師J26nB188_p0819a06出,禮拜起便喝,粟便打;師又喝,粟又打。師云:「老漢敗J26nB188_p0819a07闕了也。」便歸位。普茶,師問:「東征西討乾坤靜,今日臨J26nB188_p0819a08朝事若何?」粟默然。師曰:「四海密傳天子令,鄉村野老J26nB188_p0819a09樂豐年。」禮拜歸位。雲門小參,舉斬貓話,師忽有省,拋J26nB188_p0819a10出蒲團,門云:「一語下徐州。」門坐橋上曰:「溪水潺潺,汝J26nB188_p0819a11等道看。」眾下語不契。師曰:「敲空有響,擊木無聲。」門笑J26nB188_p0819a12頷之。旋入室,師陳所見。門曰:「從今休歇去。」師猶不自J26nB188_p0819a13肯,更勇參六日,聞鐘聲,始豁然門。上堂,師問:「大眾濟J26nB188_p0819a14濟,燈燭輝煌,請和尚指示。」門曰:「有眼皆見。」師曰:「恁麼J26nB188_p0819a15則個個成佛去也。」門曰:「汝眼原不瞎。」時為第二座,癸J26nB188_p0819a16亥歲也。又二年,乃至金粟,共展化儀。明年復還雲門,J26nB188_p0819a17呈偈曰:「蒙師饒舌十餘年,本分繇來不可傳。有見原J26nB188_p0819a18非解脫道,無心豈是祖師禪?三玄四喝閑家具,五位J26nB188_p0819a19君臣總白拈。欲識老胡親的旨,金烏夜半麗中天。」門J26nB188_p0819a20曰:「語無滲漏,善解回互。」遂付法并偈曰:「誕生原是自J26nB188_p0819a21心名,空裏栽花本現成。滿口道來無可道,威音那畔J26nB188_p0819a22幾知音?」蓋於洞宗為三十二世也。旋住鍾山。門示寂,J26nB188_p0819a23師繼席顯聖。未幾,飛錫來弁山,復古龍華寺為開山,J26nB188_p0819a24俄應越延慶寺請,期畢還龍華。明年,應本郡白雀寺J26nB188_p0819a25請,期畢復還。又二年,應越蕺山戒珠寺請,期畢復還。J26nB188_p0819a26明年,藂林始落成。明年,應天台護國寺請,是年秋,余J26nB188_p0819a27及諸紳衿緇素懇迎始還。明年,復掃塔九華,往崆峒J26nB188_p0819a28矣。師自渡江後,時時欲往終南,值北方道多梗,意猶J26nB188_p0819a29堅,既離龍華,舟指終南,輒阻石尤者數四。師曰:「天也。」J26nB188_p0819a30偶鄰舟贛客鍾,願為地主,迎師崆峒,遂從之。已而避J26nB188_p0819b01喧南雲山,復還崆峒。庚辰秋,應 建安王請住百丈。J26nB188_p0819b02明年春寂矣。臨終偈曰:「來亦無一物,去亦無一物。若J26nB188_p0819b03知端的意,百丈花梢月。」餘法語載在前後錄中,不具J26nB188_p0819b04述,時崇禎辛巳三月十九日午時也。距生時萬曆甲J26nB188_p0819b05申十一月二十六日戌時,五十八年矣,僧臘三十有J26nB188_p0819b06八。先是建壽塔於龍華寺之北,甫成報師。師喜曰:「俟J26nB188_p0819b07老僧訃音到,即迎龕入塔。」其貽兒竑書亦然,頗訝之。J26nB188_p0819b08信使還,瀕行寄語曰:「告爾堂頭,秋間書來,老僧歸矣。」J26nB188_p0819b09又聞季春九之日,有學人求師像讚,題曰:「再過十日,J26nB188_p0819b10且看咭咶。」蓋預知也。始師將往天台,指方丈後牡丹J26nB188_p0819b11謂侍者曰:「明年開一花,吾當歸,非是不歸矣。」明年果J26nB188_p0819b12開一花。及庚辰夏方丈榴花忽變白,至是始驗其兆。J26nB188_p0819b13噫!神者告之,豈偶然哉?師說法白雀,孤崖大師為西J26nB188_p0819b14堂,後於戒珠授衣法。住洞山,次說法天台,嘯雲大師J26nB188_p0819b15為西堂,至秋八月,付衣法,主護國席。師即回龍華,欲J26nB188_p0819b16隱終南,值今堂頭久默大師為座元,即以龍華委之,J26nB188_p0819b17師仍居首寮,虛方丈以俟師再來者,累年數奉嚴命,J26nB188_p0819b18始據坐。餘後先付法稱嗣子,龍華所錄,凡二十餘人。J26nB188_p0819b19後元潔師侍龕歸,攜有稿本,又十餘人得戒。請益稱J26nB188_p0819b20門牆者,不可勝數。以十月之十三日,奉全身入塔。先J26nB188_p0819b21是 建安王聞訃,為文遣祭,至則龕行矣。於是百丈J26nB188_p0819b22僧齎文護龕至弁山,設祭於龍華,遠邇思慕,瓣香叩J26nB188_p0819b23几筵者不絕。其徒求塔銘於余。余謝不承,又以傳請,J26nB188_p0819b24不可以再辭。為傳,其略如此。
J26nB188_p0819b25贊曰:洞上一宗,顯於雲門,克家肯搆,師為哲嗣。懷香J26nB188_p0819b26問道,上逮王侯,名聲普聞,可謂殊勝矣。晚歲因高峰J26nB188_p0819b27枕子一頌,法戰不休,擊鼓揚幡,竟天殷地旁。觀者口J26nB188_p0819b28呿目眙,莫適所從。乃吾聞之兒竑,師數稱天童。命兒J26nB188_p0819b29速往瞻禮,且曰:「老人年尊矣,不往更復何待?」嗚呼!此J26nB188_p0819b30足以見師之心矣。末法鬥爭堅固,諸善知識,即現鬥J26nB188_p0819c01爭身而為說法,縱橫逆順,罔非激揚,吾安知反唇而J26nB188_p0819c02稽者之非前于後,喁攘臂而仍者之非左提右挈耶?J26nB188_p0819c03夫師之真參實悟,蓋自老師大衲以暨走卒兒童,都J26nB188_p0819c04無閒言,非有期會要約也。或曰:「師悟繇較高峰果何J26nB188_p0819c05如?」曰:「止止毋多言,不聞惟證乃知乎?我非其人,安用J26nB188_p0819c06與間斯事哉?」
