J31nB267_p0572a07某啟:蓮池竹院,仰賴金湯;蒲質柳資,恒多疾疚。計出J31nB267_p0572a08山以月餘,徼過溪之日望,銜惠不淺,於心有忡。捧觀J31nB267_p0572a09雲翰,躍然神往江千;切激冰機,卓爾道通方外。空山J31nB267_p0572a10岑寂,蹤跡可藏;古樹婆娑,袈裟得蔭。稍候卻藥爐之J31nB267_p0572a11煎沸,遂當親麈拂之玄微。肅此布誠,伏祈垂宥。
復雪竇石奇和尚
J31nB267_p0572a13無隱還山,附致數字,少敘契闊。其間雖未述自閒侄J31nB267_p0572a14來禾,弟以病卻天童之命,而弟近來困頓衰苦之狀,J31nB267_p0572a15悉達於吾兄前矣。豈意前字未到,而慈命特頒,教誡J31nB267_p0572a16累幅,讀之不禁涕泗。夫以天童祖席之重,先師法道J31nB267_p0572a17之尊,海內景仰。至于今日,住持虛位,為之後者,不能J31nB267_p0572a18勇往一肩擔荷,世亦何望于有其後耶?況煩香山持J31nB267_p0572a19命,冒暑匍匐,真如吾兄耳提面命,乃復晲而不顧,弟J31nB267_p0572a20亦何所逃罪?何顏以見吾兄?因是寤寐轉側,不遑安J31nB267_p0572a21處。三四日間,微細籌度,弟之生平,頗自知矣。一木難J31nB267_p0572a22支大廈,且弟又非一木,直枯木而已。天童之事,非小J31nB267_p0572a23小因緣可支持者,非兩月三月可了事者,非若他剎J31nB267_p0572a24泛然可退步者。眾必以多計,時必以歲計,縱弟拼一J31nB267_p0572a25病軀入山,領多眾而住長時,萬一外緣不就,進又不J31nB267_p0572a26能,退又無計,其時非特取辱于弟,而祖庭係之,先師J31nB267_p0572a27係之,諸護法係之,而吾兄亦係之。以此自量,敢前趨J31nB267_p0572a28乎?此非弟固執多慮,吾兄當憐而察之。弟之病狀,支J31nB267_p0572a29離顛蹶,尚未暇計也。所以百丈清規:住持有二事當J31nB267_p0572a30退院:一、以病衰;二、以闕外緣。以此思之,主大剎者,非J31nB267_p0572b01具大福德人,莫能前也。弟今實實病衰,而又薄福,有J31nB267_p0572b02院當退,乃尋院而住,自知之明亦安在乎?惟兄以天J31nB267_p0572b03童勗弟,亦願以天童量弟。弟思古人亦有同在師門,J31nB267_p0572b04而外緣之豐薄各異,材略之短長各異,要皆隨其力J31nB267_p0572b05量,初不強也。所以道:吾聽船子之優游,慈明笑谷泉J31nB267_p0572b06之散誕,同其志不必同其力,同其法不必同其緣。弟J31nB267_p0572b07不肖,敢仰攀先德?惟吾兄大慈,勿強駑駘之走千里、J31nB267_p0572b08樗木之使繩墨,則深知弟亦無累于兄,且無辱于先J31nB267_p0572b09師,使弟隨緣林下,終其身得全其人,皆兄之賜也。仰J31nB267_p0572b10望孤峰,不勝感激慚愧之至。
再復雪竇和尚
J31nB267_p0572b12弟近來飲食大減,一夏唯啜粥延息,形影偃蹇。取靜J31nB267_p0572b13梅溪,香山所親見,作書復兄。香山見之有慍,謂若是J31nB267_p0572b14不敢歸,其持兄大議,不可少抑。朝進暮入,左鞭右策,J31nB267_p0572b15弟亦無如之何。三更起,坐床席,自思香山豈故相逼?J31nB267_p0572b16乃出于不得已。兄豈不念弟耶?亦出于不得已。因念J31nB267_p0572b17先師,復自垂涕。細思我固不肖,若不一往,似斷不容J31nB267_p0572b18我靜坐過日矣。因是許香山行。雖行,但盡弟入山一J31nB267_p0572b19念。其因緣久近,病態顛連,吁!亦遑恤于後乎?惟兄憐J31nB267_p0572b20弟,不得已狼狽從命。凡山門最要之事,乞先調停斟J31nB267_p0572b21酌,望之望也。向後弟或不能久留,亦乞勿過為督貴,J31nB267_p0572b22必始終為山門作主而更擇人。惟此二說,弟慮先言J31nB267_p0572b23之,兄必擔荷之,弟則敢行。不然,再請尊議,不敢前也。J31nB267_p0572b24惟仁宥之!不盡。
復溫州法幢大士法姪
J31nB267_p0572b26七月流火,聞道駕高棲乳峰;中秋對月,承華翰遠招J31nB267_p0572b27太白。因思道座世出世法打成一片,于兄于弟不分J31nB267_p0572b28兩家,切感讚歎之勞,仍思瓜葛之巧。佛曾親囑,天乃J31nB267_p0572b29篤生。錫振曹溪,在先無讓彼一宿覺;葦杭甬水,于今J31nB267_p0572b30自信是三生緣。霜葉紅黃,水天澄湛,圖良晤也,敢愆J31nB267_p0572c01期哉?顧倦鳥之遷喬,私欣有託;而白雲之出岫,自愧J31nB267_p0572c02何心?謹此奉復,曷勝懷企?
寄朱近脩
J31nB267_p0572c04梅溪放舟,闇伯與公握手殷殷,不能遽別;蓋道誼所J31nB267_p0572c05鍾,非一日也。廿一,渡錢塘,喜與林公可任今衣緇、稱J31nB267_p0572c06法幢大士者相值。途中盤桓,不甚寂寞;且越中諸山J31nB267_p0572c07紅葉離披,供人眼目,胸次亦甚開豁。抵明州,謁道臺J31nB267_p0572c08協府,方外之誼甚厚。又晤林公殿颺者,言與公相善;J31nB267_p0572c09再四詢近日行履,不得不以實告之。初二,入山,微雨。J31nB267_p0572c10憶所叮嚀,略去繁式,敷座說法,稍存一時扣擊之意;J31nB267_p0572c11諸緣頗順,幸無懷念!但眾多錢穀有所不充,然亦付J31nB267_p0572c12之龍天。德明見以此語,倘得長生之緣一就,坐臥更J31nB267_p0572c13覺為安。因懸崖歸,附此不盡。

J31nB267_p0572c15古南棲遲數年,貧交而甚知我者,莫如公。倏爾南行,J31nB267_p0572c16踟躕之懷,固難言矣。幸秋杪霜清,萬山爽氣,遙來逼J31nB267_p0572c17人,差慰征途蕭索之意。四明秋成,大勝浙西,山境亦J31nB267_p0572c18甚乎靜,豈非時節因緣偶相值耶?別來彌月,公必以J31nB267_p0572c19我為念,以此報公,庶幾可無念耳。懸崖有母,不能不J31nB267_p0572c20歸,彼念甚不欲歸,我不能不使之歸耳。
與周公貞
J31nB267_p0572c22匆匆南行,不及與足下竹院深談,依依之情,動於肝J31nB267_p0572c23膈,有非箏古可盡者。塘棲舟中,寫一扇相寄,想到矣。J31nB267_p0572c24噫!人生天地,固如逆旅,其來去若先有定緣,此不知J31nB267_p0572c25屬何人主握,亦難思測者矣。老當家置骨之所,令伯J31nB267_p0572c26輩曾有定議否?倘如舊主入天童,則明年候諸公顧J31nB267_p0572c27我于窮山深谷也。
復道峰木陳和尚
J31nB267_p0572c29中秋後,擬之京口,道經吳門,再領清誨。因賤體困于J31nB267_p0572c30人事,遂不果行,心甚怏怏。九月望前,梅溪發舟,月盡J31nB267_p0573a01達于甬東。晤王念翁、張協府,承以護法為己任,命中J31nB267_p0573a02軍及經、照二司護送行李。初二到寺,人情皆愉悅也。J31nB267_p0573a03獨念法兄遠在千里,不無溪山各異之思。二上座至,J31nB267_p0573a04知行錫在婁東,與吳太史、王奉常諸君子為法喜遊,J31nB267_p0573a05引領晨風,殊自慰耳。太白巍巍祖庭,加以先師經畫,J31nB267_p0573a06未肖萬一繼茲法位,時中恒抱慚恧。兼之山中舊規J31nB267_p0573a07蕩廢,苟逸群習,既寡悉檀,復虛庫廩。草鞋雖掛,如趨J31nB267_p0573a08役公庭,打一到字,久近之緣,毫不敢必。伏蒙垂囑,何J31nB267_p0573a09日能忘?愧煢煢病軀,膺以大任,未免舉措驚疑,致懸J31nB267_p0573a10長者之慮耳。
簡姚益城中丞
J31nB267_p0573a12癸未春仲,憶趨丈室,以聆玄誨。未幾,滄桑變遷,人事J31nB267_p0573a13代謝。念毗耶老人入如幻三昧,劫火洞然,鬚眉無恙,J31nB267_p0573a14喜慰喜慰。數年以來,謝住持事,惟隨順病緣,煨鐺覓J31nB267_p0573a15隱。俄大翰遠頒,命主太白,度德量力,何能上副台望?J31nB267_p0573a16第有先師廬墓在,銜命入山,遂結冬制。眾廣事繁,不J31nB267_p0573a17遑躬候,無任神馳。
與五磊穎石法侄
J31nB267_p0573a19先老人從心之年,會下英材,肩摩踵接,當不讓古大J31nB267_p0573a20溈。其時吾侄在眾中,恂恂然規行矩步,深自韜晦,似J31nB267_p0573a21不能言者。今日觀之,其逞雄心、爭長技者,皆漸澌沒;J31nB267_p0573a22而臨人天、嗣先老人之響者,皆昔日似不能言之士。J31nB267_p0573a23嗚呼!天之造就人,何奇幻如此耶?古語云:「三年不鳴,J31nB267_p0573a24鳴則驚人;三年不飛,飛則沖天。」彼世間法尚然,況續J31nB267_p0573a25慧命、繼法位,其可以剛戾之氣一例冒取乎?殆不然J31nB267_p0573a26矣。求之于吾侄處眾、住山、出世,則衲子知所勸矣。初J31nB267_p0573a27入太白,諸事糾纏,未遑過慈一談夙昔,數行先至,晤J31nB267_p0573a28面之期,有待于春也。
與超果破顏法侄
J31nB267_p0573a30初入山中,諸事冗冗,不及與吾侄從容一敘。法喜錄J31nB267_p0573b01曾略閱之,賞心快目。但不妥處,略一裁削。其語意圓J31nB267_p0573b02滿處,用硃筆圈出。既受心托,直筆想知我也。外所欲J31nB267_p0573b03言,朽與令先師親近,先老人無不年深歲久而受記J31nB267_p0573b04囑,即吾侄亦然,人所共知也。今若後生晚進,雖少有J31nB267_p0573b05機致,必亦使之深根固蒂則可。不然,恐摘時太生,欲J31nB267_p0573b06其味厚香飄,則不能也。不辭附致,幸原之。
與徐心韋侍御
J31nB267_p0573b08叨供入山,忽踰月矣!緬想維摩老人以眾生病而病,J31nB267_p0573b09然眾生界本如幻如夢,病性亦安在乎?眾生既本空J31nB267_p0573b10寂,則病病者當不必醫藥,體平而神固矣!第室中一J31nB267_p0573b11榻,不免繫我山林之思。歲將暮矣!山中承庇俱安,然J31nB267_p0573b12望移玉一過,泉石更覺蒙光,想在春風芳艸時乎?

J31nB267_p0573b14千里神交,一回覿面,原來是家裏人,所談皆家裏話,J31nB267_p0573b15不覺喜慰生心耳。佛祖頂𩕳一著,非般若夙薰,信根J31nB267_p0573b16成熟,莫能趨向,幸保任之。津梁末法,何莫非黃面老J31nB267_p0573b17子兒孫,覺方其袍、圓其顱者為拘拘矣。天寒人寒時,J31nB267_p0573b18臨長至尊寓,能有地爐煨黃獨、紫芋如山中受用乎?
與詹曰至
J31nB267_p0573b20貧衲衰敗之年,筋力無能遠遊,相看兩不厭,只有敬J31nB267_p0573b21亭山,輸卻居士一籌矣。乃客秋又被業風吹入天童,J31nB267_p0573b22真所謂祖禰不了,殃及兒孫。今冬期告圓,子禪在左J31nB267_p0573b23右,欲為眾歸里持缽,斯亦後生宜行之行也。便中特J31nB267_p0573b24草八行附訊。
寄祁驥超居士
J31nB267_p0573b26山陰道上,冒雨驅馳,未得信宿高齋,細談闊況,飽飯J31nB267_p0573b27即行,耿耿至今也。開歲佳聞名卉,生機萌動,幅巾宴J31nB267_p0573b28坐,禪觀自深,未審寶掌山主曾來相對否?謹托數行,J31nB267_p0573b29遙為問訊。住持之縛,一時莫解,冀得少暇,圖造山廬,J31nB267_p0573b30以領幽趣。

J31nB267_p0573c17自舍極樂,神情日衰,念及高誼,腸九迴也。天童義不J31nB267_p0573c18能辭,隨緣一住,不過了先老人公案。投老一枝,想依J31nB267_p0573c19鶴林,楊子相隔不遠,其時晤言,又想便耳。尊翁護法,J31nB267_p0573c20聞賜瑤章,至今未到,想念想念。令公子從福慧中來,J31nB267_p0573c21雪竇老人既名曰超鼎,今字之曰慈立,二慈之祐,必J31nB267_p0573c22成立也。
復屠闇伯
J31nB267_p0573c24自入山中,碧天紅日忽生忽落,桃花流水又復杳然。J31nB267_p0573c25想君子之儀,未能即覯,忡忡不自安,豈如懸旌搖搖J31nB267_p0573c26而無情乎?深感遠慰,益我遐思。梅溪竹院,不知何日J31nB267_p0573c27之緣再同箕踞耳。

J31nB267_p0573c29法緣久聚,情想隨之。情之所在,即道之所在也。第當J31nB267_p0573c30因情而念法,未可忘法而趨情。法乎,了生死也,空所J31nB267_p0574a01有也,入正見也。公學佛既勤,時中宜加精進,與法相J31nB267_p0574a02應,去古不遠矣。不必以形骸為累告,而不得緇其服J31nB267_p0574a03也。即使桑榆晚景,愈當以法為念。知命一偈,南行時J31nB267_p0574a04失稿,今當續刻。聞而興起,或有人焉。

J31nB267_p0574a06不揣衰病,領大住持,惟我故人,知纏縛之苦矣。懸崖J31nB267_p0574a07來近,況半得之于彼口,慰慰!所寄新什,何真切而婉J31nB267_p0574a08麗耶?聊爾步韻,自感且傷。溪上梅花,春風不肯留住,J31nB267_p0574a09奈何!奈何!近脩忽遭喪變,愁苦之懷,知莫解矣。然死J31nB267_p0574a10生之關,非設一日覷破,亦只平常良友,當以此語之,J31nB267_p0574a11庶幾一解。
簡孫孝若護法
J31nB267_p0574a13念別已久,積想日深,客歲在禾,忽聞春雷動地,不覺J31nB267_p0574a14舞蹈生歡。蓋金湯明良會合之時,即苾芻泉石依憑J31nB267_p0574a15之日,忻慰之情,有不期然而然也。但以萍跡無恒,道J31nB267_p0574a16途脩阻,趨候為艱,因草數行,謹命禪子遠詣毗耶,用J31nB267_p0574a17展心素。懸懸之私,惟冀台亮。
寄嚴髻珠居士
J31nB267_p0574a19辛卯一晤,于今三年,冷觀世間,真如夢幻。道座種性J31nB267_p0574a20既相鄰于佛祖,情誼又篤切于山林,知至至之,知終J31nB267_p0574a21終之,則今世之楊、李也。興亡治亂寄之浩歌,成敗利J31nB267_p0574a22鈍付之流水,是所望焉。前月上已,登四明巔,晤雪竇J31nB267_p0574a23老,拳拳以道座為念。適于案頭見所惠圖章,古法勁J31nB267_p0574a24筆,殊未見也。自思忝主長庚,亦冀得此以開眼目,敢J31nB267_p0574a25乞齋中得暇,入游戲三昧,以滿所願,感之甚也。
答陸葆翁
J31nB267_p0574a27一葉海東,故鄉千里,每念及諸親舊,心忡忡也。蓋近J31nB267_p0574a28則忘,遠則思,人情所必然,非游方外而不能棄世間J31nB267_p0574a29所習耳。喜吾丈年高氣旺,為學不倦,貧同原憲,樂過J31nB267_p0574a30顏、曾,宜大人君子愛且敬矣。不佞未及甲子,齒墮眼J31nB267_p0574b01昏,大剎諒難如期終役。倘得弛肩,旋歸故里,與吾丈J31nB267_p0574b02把手濠梁,敘四十年知誼,亦快事也。
復芸居玄若老友
J31nB267_p0574b04弟入天童,山事冗冗,無古宿之大福大德以御龍象,J31nB267_p0574b05雖寄托一枝,又無鷦鷯飛控之適,徒備員法社,兩無J31nB267_p0574b06當也。承遠為存念,感愧感愧。坐思三十年前,芸窗竹J31nB267_p0574b07榻,靜夜清秋,促膝談笑,佳境未移,浮生皆老,造物小J31nB267_p0574b08兒變弄歲月,真無奈渠何。欲奉教言,自不知在何時。J31nB267_p0574b09敬老居士道誼殷殷,雖不出戶,而山中雲水,飽餐香J31nB267_p0574b10積,咸受其賜,具有維摩神力矣。世譜一序,神衰筆陋,J31nB267_p0574b11黽勉草草,第不敢違尊命耳。
復顧敬修居士
J31nB267_p0574b13三佛之地,向稱甬東,況太白插雲,清關隔世,誠別一J31nB267_p0574b14寰區也。滿目青山,間啼黃鳥,憶在葑溪,蒲團相對,正J31nB267_p0574b15此時耶?何良晤之不多得也?神往神往。西來一事,本J31nB267_p0574b16自明現,苟用志不分,求方不雜,便容易入手。道座信J31nB267_p0574b17根,非一佛二佛所種,宜于此生千了百當。然當留心J31nB267_p0574b18返觀,動成兩橛時,幸勿自畫,奮然著力,水窮山盡,方J31nB267_p0574b19知甕裏未嘗走卻鱉也。望之望之。
復泯岩空林大師
J31nB267_p0574b21弟之太白也,出於無奈衰慵之軀,勉強應命,諸事甚J31nB267_p0574b22繁。兼之時荒世變,廚庫空虛,檀信寡助,容眾為艱,不J31nB267_p0574b23過隨緣而住,充一時焚掃之役。若云主大剎,繼先宗,J31nB267_p0574b24光祖庭,則慚恧無地矣。彼此衰老,每念舊交零落無J31nB267_p0574b25幾。在近惟雪竇兄,然既受住持之縛,又土木經營,已J31nB267_p0574b26當暮年,求作閒人,殆不可得。如吾兄者,白雲清風,頭J31nB267_p0574b27頭自在。此弟恒思聚首促膝,而又不能得,徒寤寐轉J31nB267_p0574b28側而已。二友傳,蒙已入覽,同參之誼,略見於此。達兄J31nB267_p0574b29竟成古人,增我哀惋。自舊冬至今,未嘗不詢問素所J31nB267_p0574b30相識,及在奉之法屬,皆云莫知其蹤跡。其徒四散,惟J31nB267_p0574c01庭柏在,求其骸骨,乃不能得。為庭之心,應即于師子J31nB267_p0574c02林買幾塊磚,設一小穴,藏其生平語句、爪髮、衣履,外J31nB267_p0574c03立一小石,表以法字。此庭所宜為,倘到兄所,幸明告J31nB267_p0574c04之。在弟力雖微,數金之助,必為設處。此不獨安達兄J31nB267_p0574c05之靈,亦所以安庭柏之心,慰同參之念耳。長夏山中,J31nB267_p0574c06綠陰黃鳥,深望把臂數日。又恐鹿城初還,更加跋踄,J31nB267_p0574c07尊履不便,未敢擅啟。或足力稍健,乘興欲再登先師J31nB267_p0574c08廬墓,即乞脫略入叢林格式。從者五六人,一杖一笠,J31nB267_p0574c09翩然過山。弟亦不敢以叢林禮數,日夕煩瀆,但得偕J31nB267_p0574c10行清關,並坐隱蓋,同上玲瓏,開襟談笑,倚松啜茗。坡J31nB267_p0574c11公所謂「與子成三老,來往亦風流」,亦希有之樂也。
答鍾雪緣文學
J31nB267_p0574c13道座信根甚深,淺淺淤泥,何能礙蓮花之芳潔?古云:J31nB267_p0574c14「百千法門,非信莫入。」既具信根,當隨此信直前;時不J31nB267_p0574c15待人,當乘此時勇猛。道味既濃,俗緣自淡,正不必委J31nB267_p0574c16以他日耳。托在道愛,不覺書及,幸諒。
答呂幼安文學
J31nB267_p0574c18梅溪往返,常汎木蘭;太白棲遲,不離竹杖。水山既異,J31nB267_p0574c19勞逸相分,老居士當惜我暮年之苦擔耳。邇來道況,J31nB267_p0574c20知動止平安為慰。梅溪分太白之燈,不但嗣山朽,而J31nB267_p0574c21先嘗老和尚法乳。然自先師入土塔上,未到世教尊J31nB267_p0574c22親法門,祖禰一體無間,似不宜置之度外。日下痰症J31nB267_p0574c23或不能行,可行不可諉也。晤時乞一言之。
柬道臺王念尼
J31nB267_p0574c25僧無恒產,糊口四方,雲行鳥飛,無所累也。雖然,孑身J31nB267_p0574c26則可,居大剎、臨廣眾則未便也。有產而差役之擾,不J31nB267_p0574c27時應點,方袍圓頂出入公庭,此又未便也。寺中有田,J31nB267_p0574c28蒙台護念,此立自運碑,德澤與香火千年永永矣。今J31nB267_p0574c29因大造,填圖三百畝為一戶,寺眾聞之,憂慮遑遑。仰J31nB267_p0574c30乞台護審役乃一邑之公,或念天童山為歷朝祖庭,J31nB267_p0575a01不入此例,使雲水僧眾安心泉石,不以差役而亂禪J31nB267_p0575a02定,垂庇之恩,真莫大焉。臨楮惶悚,萬祈台亮。

與孫非臺
J31nB267_p0575a13法運日衰,病骨日嬾,得讀乎教,如坐鶯囀谷中對春J31nB267_p0575a14風耳。令郎恂恂君子,天奪之年,古人天顏冉禍、夷齊J31nB267_p0575a15之疑,真莫解矣。然性空緣會,攝盡世出世法,觀性空J31nB267_p0575a16解脫,固非牽戀;了緣會牽戀,具有解脫傷悼之念,即J31nB267_p0575a17歸根之旨也。辱叨下問,敢此奉唁,諸保愛為禱。

復耿玉齊道臺
J31nB267_p0575a25庚寅歲在禾,聞檀越蒞浙東大作佛事,即念曰:黃面J31nB267_p0575a26老子付囑有在矣!茲備員天童,擬草數行,奉屈輿從。J31nB267_p0575a27復念檀越作津梁、開度門,處處為不請友,今未即過J31nB267_p0575a28山中者,必政事有未暇也。茲辱頒大惠,敬領敬謝。所J31nB267_p0575a29喻唯此一事,實乃釋迦老子徹底為人句。藥山云:「皮J31nB267_p0575a30膚脫落盡,唯有一真實。」蓋本此也。苟不知見,盡命根J31nB267_p0575b01斷,脫盡廉纖,卒難相應。靈巖曰:「但參話頭。」然參話頭,J31nB267_p0575b02古人雖有成說,而所謂話頭,初不泥竹篦子、狗子無、J31nB267_p0575b03麻三斤、乾矢橛也。道峰云:「古德患學者將心湊泊,用J31nB267_p0575b04意搏量,將個沒義味話塞斷渠情思解路。」此亦古人J31nB267_p0575b05方便解說。就此而論,只此二句便是情思解路,何為J31nB267_p0575b06沒義味話耶?要知靈巖發藥不中檀越病處,道峰注J31nB267_p0575b07解固欲引檀越跳出醬缸,不覺又推入醋甕。若只倚J31nB267_p0575b08墻靠壁去,要得脫灑,得大休歇,誠為難矣!今山埜亦J31nB267_p0575b09不教檀越參話頭,也不教檀越絕義路,但自思惟:種J31nB267_p0575b10種公案、種種道理,說得解得,因甚此事未得灑然,胸J31nB267_p0575b11中有礙?但如此自審自問,退步推究。當推究時,不必J31nB267_p0575b12去計賊計子計,如何是法身?如何是轉身?但隱然憤J31nB267_p0575b13然,要求個倒斷暢快,此便是直切真正相為,舍此別J31nB267_p0575b14無相為也。待倒斷時,乞示一倒斷消息,山野再進言J31nB267_p0575b15耳!信筆奉覆,深祈炤察。不備。

J31nB267_p0575b17恭惟大護法現宰官身,為如來使,藤蘿之下,塊石枕J31nB267_p0575b18頭,受庇多矣。茲聞榮擢,行旌有期,憶想光儀,不勝戀J31nB267_p0575b19戀。所仰慈願弘深,神力自在,垂文殊臂,過一百一十J31nB267_p0575b20城,則海山一帶祖庭猶在天眼中,仗為振刷也。
答玉峰玄佩二法孫
J31nB267_p0575b22久不得信,自恒忽來,乃知在大陽山結茅也。得月既J31nB267_p0575b23多,虎狼出入不便,汝師之塔移出亦可。舊冬既到紹J31nB267_p0575b24興,寧波近矣,該入山一次,雖有疾,不可中路返也。一J31nB267_p0575b25瓢在山,雖志無他想,當思汝師囑託之意,非僅僅單J31nB267_p0575b26守靈骨而已。念此,可不大發勇猛,操履己躬下事,他J31nB267_p0575b27日钁頭邊覓一箇半箇以答其意耶?
古人學佛,無不先以四弘誓,如道座一片篤護天童J31nB267_p0575b30之心,此大願王,當于文殊、普賢大人境界中求,汎汎J31nB267_p0575c01者不可同日而語也。憶嶽降在邇,緣入秋脾氣不佳,J31nB267_p0575c02旬五之期弗克果耳。西堂圓子特命代訊棕扇一偈,J31nB267_p0575c03寄三令郎,為他年之徵,鑒入為荷。

J31nB267_p0575c05秋霖洗炎,山窗兀坐,念老檀越在西泠渡樹精進幢,J31nB267_p0575c06研佛法要,同此時節,道體必臥安覺安耳。老檀越智J31nB267_p0575c07種夙深,願門今大,現宰官身,當不啻一佛二佛為授J31nB267_p0575c08記也。因緣時至,此事驀地相應,尤山野所望。日用應J31nB267_p0575c09酬,乞猛提撕,剷去所知,直期撒手,至禱至禱。

J31nB267_p0576a01孤蹤南來,與木石俱,倏爾涼風改候,玄燕舍巢,不無J31nB267_p0576a02引領懷舊之思,況頒翰教,心彌忡忡矣。遵甫竟作古J31nB267_p0576a03人,念其生平學飽而數奇,茲又奪之年,造物小兒,真J31nB267_p0576a04無面目,何忍何忍。聞相知皆為痛傷,舉有賻贈,且路J31nB267_p0576a05人亦為欷歔,善惡之天,又若有定也。人生無常,飄若J31nB267_p0576a06陌塵,自古英雄俊傑,透此網子,不得作有情癡。某念J31nB267_p0576a07及此,拊膺長歎,曷能已已。一竿一櫂,來往溪頭,常與J31nB267_p0576a08知心者接,晚年樂事,無過此也。遵甫今舍我而去,社J31nB267_p0576a09中少此一人,能不悲夫。

J31nB267_p0577b16兩三年來,聞在法華山結苑,不喚汝入山者,恐汝住J31nB267_p0577b17處初搆而中止也。然住靜本非快活事,乃埋頭操履J31nB267_p0577b18己躬一著,使長養成就也。古人木食澗飲,幾十年煨J31nB267_p0577b19折腳鐺,乃是標榜。今人不知,每每過求稱意,要富足,J31nB267_p0577b20要徒眾,要人知我尊我,此不若不住靜也,即住亦不J31nB267_p0577b21安穩。今聞數椽可蔽風雨,當勵志耐性,甘淡薄,待己J31nB267_p0577b22要嚴,處人要和,見人要謙,便是安穩舟方也。

復金子乾居士
J31nB267_p0577c25酉戌之歲,兩晤道範。嗣後孤蹤萍梗,不接玄論者久J31nB267_p0577c26矣。所諭萬壽山事,有始無終,固房僧之習。山野謂止J31nB267_p0577c27瀾既作法門中人,自可拂衣,始見高尚。若立兩爭之J31nB267_p0577c28地,與房僧何異?然萬壽古剎也,道座之執杵摧魔,宜J31nB267_p0577c29如此;止瀾或陵人傲物,不宜如此。道座如此,正見護J31nB267_p0577c30法之切;止瀾如此,不無招眾之怨。承道座護持止瀾,J31nB267_p0578a01山野自宜歸德。而止瀾叨道座之庇,肆無法品,山野J31nB267_p0578a02其能忘言而不一誡之哉?三諷來諭,善者好,不善者J31nB267_p0578a03惡,固美也。乃若因善者之好,與不善者爭,又非美也。J31nB267_p0578a04不若佩善者之好,使不善者安之為愈也。是故長善J31nB267_p0578a05者之好,遠不善者之惡,斯佛祖無諍法門也。道人腳J31nB267_p0578a06下,本天空海闊,其戀戀於此,與人爭席,欲山野耳無J31nB267_p0578a07聞、口無見,豈弟子所以安師長之心乎?然道座為止J31nB267_p0578a08瀾,即所以為山野。更望諒山野,即所以成止瀾也。蓋J31nB267_p0578a09佛祖之求人也,以其法也。一瓢一缽,行乞四方,於法J31nB267_p0578a10無損。苟貪著居處飲食,俾惡名流布,法何在焉?所以J31nB267_p0578a11山野不得不教誡之。教誡之而不悛,不得不繼之以J31nB267_p0578a12斥逐也。此係法化所關,非私心偏惡。惟道座矜念苦J31nB267_p0578a13衷,勿謂直以粗詞唐突,則法門幸甚。

J31nB267_p0578a24自古聖賢生于憂患,故君子處困而亨,處窮而固,正J31nB267_p0578a25操履得力時也。即足下以憂患而進仁術,非乎?孔子J31nB267_p0578a26嘗為委吏乘田,于道無損。蓋君子心存濟世之功,亦J31nB267_p0578a27不可無資生之術,兩者相須,道在其中矣。所謂鬧中J31nB267_p0578a28取靜,此則須有其方。足下久於禪者,何不于正鬧時J31nB267_p0578a29試究此一大機軸應用,紜紜轆轆而轉,從何處起耶?J31nB267_p0578a30但許恁麼看,不許恁麼會,所謂作心會、性會、主人公J31nB267_p0578b01會、本來面目會,并不許作周居士自己會、無名無字J31nB267_p0578b02會,但放下諸念,冷地自看,不可性懆。如人斫樹,今日J31nB267_p0578b03也斫,明日也斫,斫到根上,便瓦解冰消,始可稱達道J31nB267_p0578b04人,隨類自在,而不分鬧與靜矣。

J31nB267_p0578b06自先師化後,同門法昆皆天南地北,每念昔時山中J31nB267_p0578b07聚首語笑之樂,不再得為恨。茲承三千里外以祖塔J31nB267_p0578b08見商,足徵不棄,感何如之?遂私心揣摩,使鄰義塚,歲J31nB267_p0578b09月不免侵蝕,或為遷舉鋤掘,又恐傷元氣。蓋塔錐其J31nB267_p0578b10表也,元氣其本也。祖生平不徇時緣,痛自韜晦,及三J31nB267_p0578b11世而天童先師法化彌布寰宇,未必非祖塔之應。以J31nB267_p0578b12是推之,其名雖義塚,其脈固吉穴也,寧修而勿遷,于J31nB267_p0578b13策為上。且聞智化寺先德皆瘞于左右,祖蓋示寂智J31nB267_p0578b14化,則此基穴必寺中之先德重祖尊法有以擇之,不J31nB267_p0578b15苟苟也。今願此寺僧徒繩繩相繼,有隆而無衰,何莫J31nB267_p0578b16非塔之維護?或不至泯沒,等于牧場也。管見若此,更J31nB267_p0578b17乞裁酌。紀事錄領訖。餘意竹孫能道彼在梅谿時會J31nB267_p0578b18下住過者,今喜其為金粟孫,不以拈槌豎拂為急,遍J31nB267_p0578b19禮祖塔為務,行履超過人一頭也。草狀不悉。
