J31nB267_p0562a07客歲養痾古南,知門下城塹法門、游泳禪海,私心竊J31nB267_p0562a08仰,而庵中主人篤行,有目擊焉。茲台翰遠頒,古南緣J31nB267_p0562a09起與夫蓮師道行益知其詳,門下護法深心藹然于J31nB267_p0562a10紙墨問矣。然欲使菴之學者咸一其宗,斯任恐非駑J31nB267_p0562a11鈍所堪。雖然,某嘗聞之:法無定相,遇緣即宗,相與有J31nB267_p0562a12成。門下之願既殷,招飲過谿,亦豈可蹉過匡廬盛事J31nB267_p0562a13耶?
答嘉善周君謨孝廉
J31nB267_p0562a15客冬梅居,晤對數日,娓娓言笑,宛爾未忘。第空山無J31nB267_p0562a16事,飽飯閒眠,不覺日月之如駛也。端陽後,古南蓮師J31nB267_p0562a17持眾檀護書來,得接嘉翰,如珠走盤,不惟明揭脩途,J31nB267_p0562a18且亦深抽禪髓,賣弄家風有如是也。揄揚參歷,何敢J31nB267_p0562a19當焉?讀之念之,不令人頓欲舍離索而近同調耶?秋J31nB267_p0562a20以為期,謹如尊命。
答眾社長
J31nB267_p0562a22山野非有龍山大梅之尚,但病嬾習以性成,秪宜孤J31nB267_p0562a23峰獨宿,無所事事而已。承命飛錫古南,為第一代開J31nB267_p0562a24山知識,其可然乎?第以時節宜幡然而起,則又何敢J31nB267_p0562a25辭下釣于長波煙水問?遠煩馳貺,肅此布復。
答許白生文學
J31nB267_p0562a27古人謂心淨土淨,梅谿土鎮豈知非竺國玉池乎?在J31nB267_p0562a28道眼炤之,則一莖草上現瓊樓玉殿矣。承命遙乘木J31nB267_p0562a29杯,早飛錫杖,謹緘嘉意,以起怠情。
答周貞可文學
J31nB267_p0562b01來教謂佛法隆行之日,僅濫必衰之慮,此非高識遠J31nB267_p0562b02見,則無是慮也。然紫奪朱、莠亂苗,其來久矣!貴在具J31nB267_p0562b03眼者別之耳!未可以紫之繁而興歎于朱也。何爾?以J31nB267_p0562b04朱自朱,紫自紫,不能混故;以紫而欲奪朱,朱不能奪,J31nB267_p0562b05兼失紫之本分,此輩名為可憐憫者。又謂三傳、四傳,J31nB267_p0562b06多多益善者,斯亦利害關頭。《維摩》云:「有法門名無盡J31nB267_p0562b07燈,一燈然于百千燈,冥者皆明,明終不盡。」是則一而J31nB267_p0562b08度百,百而度萬,乃至度盡法界者,實佛祖之本懷;在J31nB267_p0562b09圖熱鬧者為之,所謂醍醐上味,為世所珍,遇斯等人,J31nB267_p0562b10翻成毒藥。然而區區病廢,曷能振古型今,扶衰滌濫J31nB267_p0562b11哉?期自寡過而未能也。承譽何可克當?希炤之。
寄太倉孫念莪封翁
J31nB267_p0562b13念與門下別,三年于茲矣。靈水禪人至禾,述在閩時,J31nB267_p0562b14公庭閒暇,每以病廢為念,欲置之水山清絕之間,使J31nB267_p0562b15甌寧人物各各知有病廢,何以克當?銘感!銘感!蓋病J31nB267_p0562b16廢之于婁江也,往返非一度,其于有道居士為法喜J31nB267_p0562b17之聚,屈指不數人。舊歲仰疇長往,病緣糾纏,不能一J31nB267_p0562b18看。念渠平日操行精堅,向道彌篤,有不能忘懷。茲辱J31nB267_p0562b19門下于同塵導物之際,竟不以孤蹤為棄,非從靈山J31nB267_p0562b20一會來,又安能如是親且切乎?靈水過雲間,謹脩片J31nB267_p0562b21楮,附瀆台座,亦見林下人不忘護法之念如此也。
寄李曉令于白門
J31nB267_p0562b23嘉禾四境,秋成歉甚,院中荒涼,更殊于昔。承言遠恒J31nB267_p0562b24垂護念,山野則蒙頭丈室,打盹度日,不異在深山窮J31nB267_p0562b25谷,煨折腳鐺耳。遐念門下,隔在千里,未獲頓接清言,J31nB267_p0562b26時復耿耿。不識彼都人士,為法喜之遊者有幾?而得J31nB267_p0562b27與門下研幾此道者復幾?臘月想定南歸,晤期屈指J31nB267_p0562b28可待。
示岫雲西堂
J31nB267_p0562b30佛法如大海,轉入轉深,此古人從千煆萬煉後切證J31nB267_p0562c01之語。不然,一蠡豈非水耶?抑有量矣。唯其有負重致J31nB267_p0562c02遠之志,則不以淺近為滿足,操履雖在己躬,陶鑄非J31nB267_p0562c03久遠處。叢林盡師家底蘊,又豈能若是耶?且古今唯J31nB267_p0562c04立言最難,當自體究念法門之重。
與中輝上座
J31nB267_p0562c06源流頌與沒交涉話曾細目之,大約上座機致雖活,J31nB267_p0562c07但未得確實耳。然頌與機語不可勉為,要在腳跟實、J31nB267_p0562c08涵養熟、宗眼廓,則如風吹水自然成紋,多說少說無J31nB267_p0562c09剩義也。或別有大方將印子印過,則非我所知。
寄山陰祁驥超
J31nB267_p0562c11歲暮,過高齋,聆大論,于法務存厚道,誠衛法之心也。J31nB267_p0562c12第先佛後佛出興于世者無他,開鑿人天正眼而已。J31nB267_p0562c13今法門嘈嘈雜雜,抱遠慮者,惡可不閑先聖之道歟?J31nB267_p0562c14此山中老人闢判之不得已也。蓋既有法門之責,安J31nB267_p0562c15坐不援,恐亦非法門之用心。稿呈老人,幸取一觀。
與周西玄
J31nB267_p0562c17去冬省山中老人于祁園,途中受極寒,入春體中不J31nB267_p0562c18佳,日與藥爐相對。然山野初聞老人出山,恐復作前J31nB267_p0562c19年故事,不知時荒世異,非復昔時,斯意有難言者。幸J31nB267_p0562c20一到祁園,即見門下寄老人并祁驥老兩札,事勢詳J31nB267_p0562c21明,語意諄切,老人目之有動於中,欣然返策。今雖上J31nB267_p0562c22通玄峰頂,而不復渡江者,未必非欽高論。故老人以J31nB267_p0562c23此得優游巖壑,諸及門者得皆去其重慮,而安坐于J31nB267_p0562c24山頭水際耳。荒鎮民情,較舊歲倍加淒楚,但安靜過J31nB267_p0562c25之,以故時時擊竹觀桃,春意不減眉睫。齋中風味,未J31nB267_p0562c26悉若何?閱萬兄錄弁語,如見冠裳大雅之容,足消近J31nB267_p0562c27時莽鹵果敢之氣,然鄙刻亦望毛錐子一放光也。

J31nB267_p0562c29前繭足奔天台,途路誠苦矣。乃適值龕回天童,辛苦J31nB267_p0562c30有加,且天童事最難調停,於義又不能恝然出山,所J31nB267_p0563a01以隨方就圓,以盡弟子之分。若曰得應時妙用,則非J31nB267_p0563a02區區所知也。日者告假歸禾,院眾又時商過冬事,弗J31nB267_p0563a03克躬晤,未審北行定何日耶?惟門下久踐斯道,其出J31nB267_p0563a04其處,不忘護念法門,乃拙者之深望序文,深長思矣。J31nB267_p0563a05隱憂惻然,豈如坐村夫于韻士之前,真若加章甫于J31nB267_p0563a06斷髮之上,佩感何如?第拙者之意,欲秪明其在我者,J31nB267_p0563a07其他聽之。承命損益,緘此馳報。
與唐琪園
J31nB267_p0563a09初秋,聞老人之訃,心神霿亂,如孩提失怙,悵然無依,J31nB267_p0563a10泣奔通玄峰頂。正慮建塔無地,適天童、南源諸師來J31nB267_p0563a11請龕,乃知冥數已定于太白峰,與應密諸祖共垂休J31nB267_p0563a12光照後世矣。于是即扶龕而行,七日遂達甬東。眾心J31nB267_p0563a13又謂入土為安,卜于寺之左右,皆無善者。偶有南山J31nB267_p0563a14片地,常住向以無心得之,形家僉曰吉壤,眾心愉悅,J31nB267_p0563a15遂擇日斬草。至于入塔之期,則在明春矣。緣念門下J31nB267_p0563a16與老人昔曾鍼芥,至期惠臨,使海濱士庶見居士輩J31nB267_p0563a17遠為垂炤,魔祟不作,近護加敬,此亦同事一攝,門下J31nB267_p0563a18必以為然耳。
寄石幢禪師
J31nB267_p0563a20弟登通玄,聞兄下山,未幾扶龕歸天童,諸事紛紛。接J31nB267_p0563a21與南兄翰,知駐錫江上,與黃介老為法喜遊,慰慰。聞J31nB267_p0563a22介老欲與老人作行狀,乃山中所望也。到天台時,聞J31nB267_p0563a23王大舍居士曾一作過,弟未之見,但聞其間多有不J31nB267_p0563a24公之說。夫遠法者,以彌勒授記尚屬夢言,何于記莂J31nB267_p0563a25之中又爭正傳傍傳乎?或果有超師之見,亦必人自J31nB267_p0563a26仰之則可。歲聿云暮,晤期諒必在入塔時。不盡覶縷。
與黃介子
J31nB267_p0563a28自武陵一別,三易星霜,遐想道範,不啻真人天際也。J31nB267_p0563a29邇來叢席轟轟,而典型則有在。先和尚忽從鬧裏抽J31nB267_p0563a30身,不肖等淚出痛腸矣。因憶生平行履,非親炙大士J31nB267_p0563b01不能紀,非大手筆無能彰也。幢師在彼,蒙許揄揚,不J31nB267_p0563b02肖輩稽首下風矣。恨羈以院事,未能踵門,容日躬懺,J31nB267_p0563b03不盡欲言。

J31nB267_p0563b05日者山中種種勞心,喜共完得先師末後事,不識自J31nB267_p0563b06武陵放舟,于道途自在否?某于是日與同人、石幢二J31nB267_p0563b07師契闊談笑,不忍遽別,隨呼小舟,直至天竺。過靈隱,J31nB267_p0563b08坐冷泉亭,登石筍峰。小雨暮來,諸峰一抹,有菴主負J31nB267_p0563b09薪下山,某乃不打破鍋,掘大筍,炊白飯,聚頭飽餐,把J31nB267_p0563b10火出林。復遊靈隱,照看冷泉,一如墨色。三人狂叫,移J31nB267_p0563b11時就路,敲下天竺門,寄宿三生石下。緣主人先約,故J31nB267_p0563b12秉燭而待也。次早飯畢,復登韜光,誦白侍郎詩,徒步J31nB267_p0563b13踊躍,同師足嬾,獨坐冷泉亭。憎幢師下山遲,某乃微J31nB267_p0563b14辭解之。即起身尋舊路,于金沙灘落船,渡至昭慶,皆J31nB267_p0563b15空腹矣,恍若有得。斯須,復值道信招坐大舫,窮湖南J31nB267_p0563b16之勝。天色晴麗,伊蒲充几,湖心縱目,上下蔚藍,然快J31nB267_p0563b17志不如昨也。共歸金剛菴夜話,興盡倦來,各就榻臥。J31nB267_p0563b18侵晨,彼二師者即進隆慶,某孑然扁舟歸院。念勝遊J31nB267_p0563b19之偶然,良友之難聚,況親嘗法乳,思再侍巾瓶,何能J31nB267_p0563b20復得?聞之當亦悵然也。
復夾山林皋和尚
J31nB267_p0563b22不肖夙生慶幸,始獲剃染,隨遇明師,知無上法。丙寅J31nB267_p0563b23歲,得與金粟法會者,莫非先洞和尚指南之力也。其J31nB267_p0563b24時實以駑鈍自居,未敢攀仰音徽,致闕殷勤于左右,J31nB267_p0563b25遺恨至今。復緣病廢,深切二老人法乳,無能少副其J31nB267_p0563b26囑,益加慚赧,豈曰二拄杖扶于一人耶?法兄見存,不J31nB267_p0563b27以疏陋遐棄,千里同風,誠君子之所尚矣。誠範一書,J31nB267_p0563b28多識前言往行,足砭蛙見羊質。扇頭二偈,穆如清風,J31nB267_p0563b29手足之誼,使人怡怡然不能忘也。

J31nB267_p0563c01遠來江上,無以獻誠,反叨法供厚惠,赧顏而歸矣。風J31nB267_p0563c02清月明,不獲再上法堂,遐思如何?
復黃介老
J31nB267_p0563c04澄江滔滔,君山聳峙,乘興造謁,不辭唱綿州巴歌,正J31nB267_p0563c05以同條功甫能讀上大人故也。好音在耳,毛孔猶香。J31nB267_p0563c06接先洞聞和尚語錄序,發所未發,陳年秘藏,開篇了J31nB267_p0563c07然。古有擇乳之說,信矣。我願既滿,眾望其有不足者J31nB267_p0563c08乎?遙謝不一。
答吳伯明
J31nB267_p0563c10隆祖塔非得門下護惜,輪奐惡能一新乎?秋風瞻禮,J31nB267_p0563c11復得叮嚀之力。几筵有序,感念良深。臨風敬謝不一。
與周貞可
J31nB267_p0563c13從上古人為此一大事,皆以真實心未透生死,但有J31nB267_p0563c14咨參;生死既透,始有擔荷分。又時中恒生慚愧,念此J31nB267_p0563c15一大事乃佛祖捨身歷劫積誠所致,今我亦得與聞,J31nB267_p0563c16良非易得者。如此作念,真如人過獨木橋或恐失腳,J31nB267_p0563c17不得不把緊、不得不真實;生死之疑未泮,不得不著J31nB267_p0563c18忙。蓋此事非人前支撐一兩轉語以為禪,及至孤燈J31nB267_p0563c19獨炤則又無禪,明知所得在光影邊,殊不濟事,不肯J31nB267_p0563c20放下,死死窮究,秪圖口頭,此何益哉?又參禪人雖不J31nB267_p0563c21提起戒行邊事,古人亦無不收斂者,若一味種種恣J31nB267_p0563c22意以為無礙,則無礙者乃無忌耳。此等行履不惟在J31nB267_p0563c23俗,即在緇流不善體究,總流入莽莽蕩蕩,撥因果以J31nB267_p0563c24為游戲,乃波旬屬,非佛兒孫也。時中慎之念之,始不J31nB267_p0563c25孤一番道聚。若以我言為逆耳,則足下之禪不妨說J31nB267_p0563c26去弄去,第恐叫苦有日。然此瑣瑣,豈可為足下道?所J31nB267_p0563c27謂若藥不暝眩,厥疾不瘳耳。倘珍重己靈,幸莫謂我J31nB267_p0563c28饒舌。

J31nB267_p0563c30僧回得書,首尾一覽,足見於法不苟,於心無欺,維持J31nB267_p0564a01世界,超越生死,全賴此一點直心。但所言乾淨一著,J31nB267_p0564a02談何容易?胸中一絲毫滯礙,未為乾淨耳。四維當時J31nB267_p0564a03欲付囑者,正見四維之不濟處,無驗人眼,總被足下J31nB267_p0564a04筆便口利所惑。其後足下自顧未大了當此絕好消J31nB267_p0564a05息,如自瞞自欺,便非端人正士,佛祖亦救不得也。不J31nB267_p0564a06料被山野覷破定盤星,肯欺人乎?八月間復得脫落,J31nB267_p0564a07未為到家,所謂但有箇窮究念頭,那得放下?既曰放J31nB267_p0564a08下,又安有窮究哉?疑難兩行不悖,殊不知若真窮究,J31nB267_p0564a09正忌足下如是分析。又云:宗門不過要人明心見性,J31nB267_p0564a10心性既明,則此身有生死,此性無生死。山野道足下J31nB267_p0564a11如此說話,正未明心見性在,病根正在此也。又云:所J31nB267_p0564a12見如此,明知未了當,卻又無疑。此亦足下向蘊此見,J31nB267_p0564a13以為了手,無人點破,故無疑也。今山野既為決破非J31nB267_p0564a14到家消息,安得無疑?然到此為足下說玄也不得,說J31nB267_p0564a15妙也不得,說超佛越祖也不得,惟在自己肯信人指J31nB267_p0564a16點,著著實實參去,直待大死一番,始可來山野處求J31nB267_p0564a17倒,斷斷斷不相負。古云:「參須實參,悟須實悟,閻羅大J31nB267_p0564a18王不怕多語。」
寄天童木陳和尚
J31nB267_p0564a20世運弊矣,林下人當如何?春間亦聞山中有小警,然J31nB267_p0564a21兄與雪竇道場祖運攸關,自宜卓然屹立,不受境風J31nB267_p0564a22所搖。弟之棲真,僻陋荒野,破殿漂搖,世尊與金色頭J31nB267_p0564a23陀坐立露地,未嘗破顏微笑。冷地自看,人境俱無足J31nB267_p0564a24取,去住自當綽綽然者。而一年來刺頭荊棘中,傷手J31nB267_p0564a25犯足,豈不自討苦喫?想兄揣摩,亦必為弟深惜也。
寄通玄林野和尚
J31nB267_p0564a27春殘上大陽,即欲從龍宮直詣寶所,其奈足力不勝,J31nB267_p0564a28中途懈退。邇者兵荒交變,所在叢席,無不騷然。想通J31nB267_p0564a29玄峰頂不是人間,晏然自得也。
答慈谿白龍寺冰懷法孫
J31nB267_p0564b01海村避亂,山性慵放,人事一切闊略。承命上首遠來,J31nB267_p0564b02兼惠嘉貺,不遺病拙,以法為親,來意誠篤,不能卻也。J31nB267_p0564b03梵公生緣同里,入法同宗,今得傳播其生平言句,亦J31nB267_p0564b04幸事也。
與雪丆監院
J31nB267_p0564b06春間兩得字,皆臘月自溫州寄來者。山川不千里,所J31nB267_p0564b07來何其不易耶?思欲轉寄一札,無便可通,徒寤寐轉J31nB267_p0564b08側而已。入夏思愈甚,且棲真道侶,無不翹首南望,皆J31nB267_p0564b09云可來矣,胡不歸耶?今我有事蹔出,公若來,即當安J31nB267_p0564b10舊寮,攝院事。世界雖不寧,幸苦守以待,庶不孤眾信J31nB267_p0564b11一番之耑誠,道場不至泯沒。此公當知我心。
與完白維那
J31nB267_p0564b13尊勝寄跡,隨時安分可也。來書讀去,極見真切。既今J31nB267_p0564b14人不足法,當便以古為法。古人發一言、行一事,殊不J31nB267_p0564b15造次,直須明眼首肯,不樂無智稱尊,所以至今不廢J31nB267_p0564b16師道。我病久矣,無能為也。念在久相從,實語相為,惟J31nB267_p0564b17勿作逆耳,將來未必無補。
與屠闇伯居士
J31nB267_p0564b19獻歲捧札後,寺冗日生,兼之兵荒相仍,鄉村無有寧J31nB267_p0564b20處。遙望剡齋,惟有馳想。遵甫已就一館,第海濱知音J31nB267_p0564b21甚稀,若在所褻,某每以隨宜說法勉之。禁煙已過,來J31nB267_p0564b22尋夙盟,小偈有懷寄上。倘公庭得暇,或不妨共乘肩J31nB267_p0564b23輿,一果幽期耳。
與倪伯屏司李
J31nB267_p0564b25自牧持棲真一會,語煩作序。村野之夫,欲求冠章甫,J31nB267_p0564b26居士肯如其願乎?時節擾擾,久思棄破院,外而村老,J31nB267_p0564b27內而諸衲,皆不欲。然麋鹿之性,又不可羈,難兩全矣。J31nB267_p0564b28今幸有工三老煉者,肯隨麋鹿之性自去來,彼則守J31nB267_p0564b29以待時。原其意,則曰:「如此,或道場有可興之機,我師J31nB267_p0564b30無束縛之累。」某善其言。第寺在昔有產,後盡歸諸俗J31nB267_p0564c01姓。僧散去,俗姓糧役盡推入寺。後住僧苦之,嗚于縣。J31nB267_p0564c02縣尊胡公著冊書清理,冊書受賄支吾,胡公杖之死。J31nB267_p0564c03知左右近寺俗姓之產,皆寺之產也,因照田加派。于J31nB267_p0564c04是國課有徵,寺僧脫苦。今胡公審語炳然,里中有一J31nB267_p0564c05二不法者玩之,仍指寺有糧役,致公差數數來炒鬧,J31nB267_p0564c06官府經此索供應,欲守者甚難。若僧難于守,晉唐來J31nB267_p0564c07千年道場,從此湮廢,香火永斷矣。門下或念之,敢乞J31nB267_p0564c08鼎言一致。今縣尊給一告示,庶里中兒不生事。官府J31nB267_p0564c09過,知寺無役,乃必矜諒,此實弘護之大者。意欲躬白,J31nB267_p0564c10以趁便船過姚江,故不及。特命寺僧將舊冊審語呈J31nB267_p0564c11覽,容後晉謁,惟冀諒原。外有冊葉,不敢即請。俟齋中J31nB267_p0564c12宴坐之暇,乞筆硯作新殿之肇。
與朱近脩孝廉
J31nB267_p0564c14八月,得屠、范二公書,知道從憩棲真,其時恍惚,不敢J31nB267_p0564c15漫作書相寄。二公書中三致意焉,想見之矣。嗣後世J31nB267_p0564c16變日出,然道從意之所之,我不得而知也。茲接東,乃J31nB267_p0564c17知復徘徊于他山,矍然為道從危之。為道從計,莫若J31nB267_p0564c18遵時養晦,決于超世可也;有土有君,用世可也。此明J31nB267_p0564c19哲保身,有望于道從。不然,紅爐燄上、白刃鋒頭,何自J31nB267_p0564c20苦如是耶?或時節因緣有俟于病衲,而奇荒疊變,茲J31nB267_p0564c21冬未能即渡江。第道從能決志薰沐三寶,前一念緣,J31nB267_p0564c22想即與病衲有神交之道矣。來翰懇惻,盡言無隱,惟J31nB267_p0564c23炤之。
與黃介子居士
J31nB267_p0564c25自癸未一造丈室,贏疾頻年,未遑再步君山,一放情J31nB267_p0564c26志。天風海濤,能不哂埳井中坐耶?客歲孟夏,入天童J31nB267_p0564c27二瞻禮先師,墓木皆已拱矣。同門晤對,眼前無幾,倍J31nB267_p0564c28增悽切。及登雪竇,江之北烽煙已滿,而錢塘不能渡J31nB267_p0564c29矣。因又住一窮山破寺曰棲真者,海角無聊,每懷法J31nB267_p0564c30兄道力自勝,干戈中必得晏然。茲五月,古南僧渡江J31nB267_p0565a01促歸,不得已徑取海道,多抱驚恐。抵院受暑,痢疾頻J31nB267_p0565a02作,自禾過吳,道路難行,苦未得澄江一泛。適體白從J31nB267_p0565a03雪竇歸探母,草數字附候,統冀詳示報章,以慰馳想。

J31nB267_p0565a15前出山至周㽘,聞姚新中尊姓氏,意二公必晏如公J31nB267_p0565a16署矣。歸院,令親友詢及,無不致二公遠懷之意。細語J31nB267_p0565a17二公近況,皆歡然也。是後有行腳僧來,言寧、紹已更J31nB267_p0565a18新。令愕然心驚,度姚不甚安,然莫知二公去就,恒切J31nB267_p0565a19切也。棲真僧至,始知偕令友林君盤旋高梧。噫嘻!自J31nB267_p0565a20非變亂,僻茲海濱,何能為隱君子之地哉?寺僧云二J31nB267_p0565a21公復有蹈海之志。此不宜行,莫若乘時而返。秋風夜J31nB267_p0565a22枕,不添羈客之悲;斜日白雲,庶免倚閭之望。惟留神J31nB267_p0565a23加察為荷。

與吳伯明居士
J31nB267_p0565b17時丁末世,三災相仍,下民咨嗟,視蒼蒼正瞢瞢也。幸J31nB267_p0565b18千人石不能負之而趨,猶得良夜一步,憨憨泉畔,覿J31nB267_p0565b19面相逢,且驚且喜,放舟南還,無時不念于湖光山色J31nB267_p0565b20中,折梅索句,以貽玄度。此情此境,殆一時不能復得J31nB267_p0565b21矣。然山河帶礪,自古靡常,達觀者不得不以世間為J31nB267_p0565b22遊戲耳。所幸白鼠推遷,銀臺不變,歸根復命,又何外J31nB267_p0565b23物有一毫能動耶?茲將歸虞山開法故寺,倘得扁舟J31nB267_p0565b24過我,信宿雲林,亦此生之餘樂也。
復虞山諸護法
J31nB267_p0565b26竊以破山禪院創自齊梁,詠于唐代。某往時出家其J31nB267_p0565b27中,拾石跳澗,倚松弄雲,嬉戲快樂,不知有人間世。蒙J31nB267_p0565b28先老人洞聞和尚每見呼責,喻以生死事大,從是剔J31nB267_p0565b29起眉毛,行而索,坐而思,疑關未破。會老人告寂,即學J31nB267_p0565b30古人行腳,于今二十餘年矣。追憶禪房花木,恍如昨J31nB267_p0565c01夢,奈野性習成,病緣久染,優游他山,竟忘故里。茲承J31nB267_p0565c02諸大護法受靈山之囑,推屋烏之愛,遙命還山,弘大J31nB267_p0565c03法,振宗風,以光先德。斯蓋須彌鍼芥,滄海木龜,時節J31nB267_p0565c04因緣,實難遭遇。所愧某緇行未全,福緣素薄,恐不克J31nB267_p0565c05副諸大護法之望,有難愜龍天佛祖之心。念此迴遑,J31nB267_p0565c06莫能自決,或者略為之兆,安禪一冬,結戒半月,藉鼎J31nB267_p0565c07言垂護,上德如風,下應如艸,則春風遲日,勝事告圓,J31nB267_p0565c08某之進退可裕如矣。肅此拜瞻,不勝悚仄。

J31nB267_p0565c29某昔侍先老人洞聞和尚,凡檀護往來,皆得竊聞其J31nB267_p0565c30姓氏。恭聞門下雖未及覯,然中心欽仰,與日俱積矣。J31nB267_p0566a01茲承念伶俜他鄉,招返故里,此門下行佛祖之仁慈,J31nB267_p0566a02付窮子以家業者也。所慮法王大寶,匪薄福便可擔J31nB267_p0566a03荷。諺云:物離鄉貴。今某一土僧耳,人微言輕,一旦高J31nB267_p0566a04踞法座,大人君子得不哂之?門下之翰曰:義不忘本。J31nB267_p0566a05此某所深服膺而不敢違者。然去就之間,又法門所J31nB267_p0566a06係,輕身則易,徇法良難。昔者野犴說法,天帝為之擁J31nB267_p0566a07護,斯則貴其法而忘其人也。今某非知法者也,仰藉J31nB267_p0566a08門下鼎言倡之,倘得闔邑高明君子垂諒,即其寺忘J31nB267_p0566a09其人之卑,則某可以趨丈室而聆玄誨矣。

J31nB267_p0566a11重陽前四日,興福鶴師至,展大翰,述廿餘年前事,不J31nB267_p0566a12覺憮然。某與門下飲先洞老人禪悅為多,固法門手J31nB267_p0566a13足也。乃一別以來,門下如上林之木,扶疏霄漢,蒼生J31nB267_p0566a14被其蔭,而某泛泛溝中,即而匹之,真有雲泥之隔矣。J31nB267_p0566a15然門下于道不自足,且以未離塵鞅為憾。嗚呼!使世J31nB267_p0566a16界皆若沮溺輩,自怡自悅,得不孤洙泗,轍環天下乎?J31nB267_p0566a17破山常住,先哲屢逝,鶴師承之,清規凜然,輪奐聿起,J31nB267_p0566a18亦無俟于頭上安頭矣。乃闔邑大護欲招病軀還山,J31nB267_p0566a19其詞皆勤懇,而門下高論又親且切,似弗獲辭者。某J31nB267_p0566a20頑懶為習,癡兀成性,近又增益脾疾,置之閒處,始遂J31nB267_p0566a21其生。今者督以法任,使如古佛大宗師行化,得無過J31nB267_p0566a22乎法門之難易?門下蓋素知舉手低頭皆成佛道,十J31nB267_p0566a23地等覺又莫測佛性之淺深,此所以同而別也。至于J31nB267_p0566a24天童一棒,起河北之宗,截斷眾流,直指本源,于斯為J31nB267_p0566a25尚。信之未及,每至望崖;得之未深,斯多呅唧。此所以J31nB267_p0566a26建法幢、立宗旨,殊難于末世耳。茲如命還山,用遵佛J31nB267_p0566a27制,安禪一冬,結戒半月,斯則上下齊收,智蒙咸益,以J31nB267_p0566a28副輿望。至于某之去住久速,一聽于緣。何也?僧,東西J31nB267_p0566a29南北之人也,凡所住處,公諸十方,處處皆為旅寓。若J31nB267_p0566a30曰:此家舍也,當無舍諸。明眼聞之,則必胡盧絕倒,共J31nB267_p0566b01呵為不材也。恃在知愛,縷縷信筆。
復錢嗣懿封翁錢嗣希進士
J31nB267_p0566b03破山寺之中新于上府,有大因緣矣。此不特勒之石J31nB267_p0566b04碣,即傳之口碑無異辭者。而二十餘年游方之外,每J31nB267_p0566b05念疇昔盛事,興感不已。鶴師得藉庇護,輪奐大備,有J31nB267_p0566b06光先人。某固一駑駘耳,秪宜閒放,若策以長途,必多J31nB267_p0566b07驚懼。且鶴師高林曲徑,儘可優游,空谷白駒,何更他J31nB267_p0566b08適?願祈門下勉之,則一眾有所憑依,山門不至寂寞,J31nB267_p0566b09承命回山,乃得久長接教矣。
復翁子安孝廉
J31nB267_p0566b11破山舟來,獲接諸護法公啟,復發大翰,乃知門下念J31nB267_p0566b12我深矣。破山為千年常住,而弘護亦世相襲,披先老J31nB267_p0566b13人洞和尚語錄,悼尊翁光太常之挽章具在。哲人往J31nB267_p0566b14矣,歲不我與,讀之令人感且涕也。某未識門下面,捧J31nB267_p0566b15札若舊交者,得非以故山檀護夙昔皆在耳中,至今J31nB267_p0566b16不能忘乎?所諭眼目人天沾溉後學,某豈其人也哉?J31nB267_p0566b17第望門下今日之維護,不異先世之維護,則破龍一J31nB267_p0566b18脈法席愈光,而門下先世護法之澤永流于龍澗矣。
復孫孝若孝廉
J31nB267_p0566b20樗衲遠遊,浪淹歲月,山門不替,賴有金湯。方策杖以J31nB267_p0566b21臨流,乃隔山而飛翰,道忘緇素,誼切雲林。為法求人,J31nB267_p0566b22憂在三車五濁;開心道義,錫以雙金百朋。捧讀再三,J31nB267_p0566b23感佩何似?所念維桑與梓,恒情自古有懷;縛蔑折葦,J31nB267_p0566b24古宿在先無必。時將至矣,道則云然。期見古殿殘燈,J31nB267_p0566b25發起照用主賓之燄;山光潭影,笑回東西南北之人。J31nB267_p0566b26萍跡若斯,松枝曷向?某不勝翹企。
復錢西翰孝廉
J31nB267_p0566b28曩者某在故山時,見安眾護法之殷,惟尊族為最,而J31nB267_p0566b29令先尊又歸依洞老人,瞻仰殊切,則今日座下緇素J31nB267_p0566b30雖殊,固同脈也。承篤勸還山,曷敢辭以他意?獨微軀J31nB267_p0566c01病緣久纏,慮不能久處,以慰四眾之望。至于山門倚J31nB267_p0566c02賴,有舊護法在,或無他事也。青峰數朵,白雲一片,當J31nB267_p0566c03期賞音共之。
復陸禹舟陸定爾兩護法啟
J31nB267_p0566c05古柏婆娑,空潭影現,開士以之明心,達人于焉息躅,J31nB267_p0566c06我邑名藍洵無若破山矣。恭惟護法眷茲香剎不異J31nB267_p0566c07靈峰,思繼往以開來,因感今而念舊,特頒嘉翰,遙慰J31nB267_p0566c08病緇,此猶給孤玄度鍾情于法林覺地者也。第某瞻J31nB267_p0566c09風撥艸,久如水面之萍;翔野脫籠,大類雲邊之鳥。慨J31nB267_p0566c10光陰猶過客,將天地作旅亭,栖息他山,視同桑梓,言J31nB267_p0566c11旋故寺,不落主賓。過溪且復期三,往哲敢齊為五來啟J31nB267_p0566c12云:寺有四高僧,得老師而五之。四高僧者,唐嘗達、懷述,朱梁彥稱,宋晤恩也。北澗簡詩「寺倚四僧傳」即此?大率常住要有千J31nB267_p0566c13年之香火,而僧徒宜守十方之準繩,此鶴師所以欲J31nB267_p0566c14某還山聊為措置者也。乃若興替不移,則金湯斯望。
復毛子晉檀越啟
J31nB267_p0566c16久離故鄉,孤蹤邈矣;遙接大翰,歸思悠然。坐立不作J31nB267_p0566c17山中入,馳騁豈非門外漢?恭惟門下,文苑司權,法門J31nB267_p0566c18作護。空心及第,句明龐老之機;由義居仁,學溯尼山J31nB267_p0566c19之脈。生平素昧,因及門愚弟子,遂獲神交;文彩既彰,J31nB267_p0566c20數從上老凍膿,都如面覯。臨空潭而照影,喜曲徑之J31nB267_p0566c21通幽。古澗滔滔,欲鼓曹溪之波浪;真燈燁燁,獨推臨J31nB267_p0566c22濟之風顛。竊惟某叨依黃面,濫廁緇林,念生死以遑J31nB267_p0566c23遑,積春秋而汲汲。布單賣卻,圖明樹倒藤枯;草履破J31nB267_p0566c24來,依舊飢餐渴飲。病骨秪堪閒放,名藍曷克住持?猥J31nB267_p0566c25辱寵招,恐違佳貺。桂香已過,山谷之鼻孔必開;菊英J31nB267_p0566c26未殘,柴桑之醉吟有待。虎溪一笑,龍澗三生,良晤匪J31nB267_p0566c27遐,短詞聊復。

答破山西林隱谷禪丈

復羅夢章道臺
J31nB267_p0567a11病僧舊夏入天童禮先師塔,聞台駕入山未踰時也。J31nB267_p0567a12住持木和尚詳述衛法之切,遂神馳座下。茲辱翰招J31nB267_p0567a13還棲真,敢不深銘?第海濱荒饉薦臻,舊院薄緣未了,J31nB267_p0567a14意俟三春和煦,道途寧靜,便當渡江,更圖首謁維摩J31nB267_p0567a15丈室。僧回,草草奉復,祈台亮。
復陳平若御史
J31nB267_p0567a17棲真守僧至,接台翰,知垂念深矣。第棲真雖巍然一J31nB267_p0567a18祖庭,以僻在海濱,淪落已久,即詢近邑,或無知者。病J31nB267_p0567a19僧自舊夏入處,至冬略一整頓,而世變疊興。每于中J31nB267_p0567a20夜思之,不知此寺重新之緣在何時耳。今得台座遠J31nB267_p0567a21為護持,晨鐘暮鼓,必再振于白雲滄海間。
復鄔簡在孝廉
J31nB267_p0567a23日在棲真時,聞父老輩稱台下大德,便有神馳之意,J31nB267_p0567a24第末由接見。茲沐手教遠臨,捧讀再三,詞意勤至,亟J31nB267_p0567a25挽拙衲還山,且敘曩日顧虛翁垂護病軀,倪伯老揄J31nB267_p0567a26揚鄙錄,極承道雅,匪敢後命。但吳中諸道侶以制期J31nB267_p0567a27相牽,未獲抽身,滄海白雲,時落夢想。且書中具見高J31nB267_p0567a28志,不惟光賁泉石,而棲真一坐具得蒙呵護,則五百J31nB267_p0567a29餘年慧老遺跡可以咄嗟起廢矣。
復胡宅眾文學
J31nB267_p0567b01山野遊方之外,初不擇地而栖;而梧山崎水,固心所J31nB267_p0567b02篤好棲遲者也。自出山後,地隔千里、天各一方,不無J31nB267_p0567b03慨歎!所幸諸君子念茲祖庭、眷我禪板,此實三生林J31nB267_p0567b04下之緣,豈直海濱一時之誼!春風和煦,自當扶杖來J31nB267_p0567b05歸;道路阻長,敢惜移瓶前邁!石窗慧日,將有待于呵J31nB267_p0567b06護正神;滄海白雲,願共遊于與靈真境。
柬顧敬脩居士
J31nB267_p0567b08世間好事,只宜上緊做尊集七冊,大費一番心矣。蓋J31nB267_p0567b09自南宋高宗之後,《傳燈》無有脩者,望脩《傳燈》而不得。J31nB267_p0567b10自宋末至今,尊宿之機緣行業幾乎息矣,而《五燈續J31nB267_p0567b11略》先出其間,不無酌議。然得此以興起法門作者之J31nB267_p0567b12心,從是而往,五燈之光重耀於世。然當此時,寧詳而J31nB267_p0567b13勿略,則尊集得之山野初觀,亦有去繁從簡之意。既J31nB267_p0567b14而思《會元》乃《五燈錄》後事也,若無《五錄》,《會元》何由而J31nB267_p0567b15成?故不須二意,竟梓之。後之君子或有好簡,聽再成J31nB267_p0567b16之。其在今日,流通詳者為第一著。《楞嚴正脈》,詳者也;J31nB267_p0567b17《合轍》,略者也。窺基《唯識疏》亡其古本,唯識旨趣不見J31nB267_p0567b18于世,而高原法師先出俗詮、後闡唯識者,踵接靡不J31nB267_p0567b19由高原始也。故法門之事不一而足,尊稿幸速流通J31nB267_p0567b20為善也。舟次,草草幸諒。
復孫孝若孝廉二首
J31nB267_p0567b22別故鄉廿五載,左右光儀,素未之覯。舊歲言旋,一晤J31nB267_p0567b23語間,遂成傾蓋。賴多方安眾,冷落空山,如遊香積世J31nB267_p0567b24界。自南自北,方千里間,無不傳稱虞山法席之隆。況J31nB267_p0567b25崑婁之間,聞見而興起讚善者,又何限哉?非座下受J31nB267_p0567b26囑古佛,勤護正法,何以有此?推之世澤,尊先翁之令J31nB267_p0567b27名德業,猶在耳中。乃知座下金湯我剎,有自來矣。近J31nB267_p0567b28者南遊,以疾求靜。寤寐之間,冷然有思。蒙論故山三J31nB267_p0567b29不可去,宜憒者覺、聾者醒。所苦者,手足若僵,積痾未J31nB267_p0567b30去,莫能即奔尊命。堂中第一座,履歷多年,佛法識見,J31nB267_p0567c01俱有頭緒。且其人溫恭謙謹,能和於眾,可以權結夏J31nB267_p0567c02制,分座接引。古規如是,且故山所謂維桑與梓,必恭J31nB267_p0567c03敬止。若使遄歸,以一贏軀,應諸冗事,則病有增無損。J31nB267_p0567c04病而不已,至必顛隕,然于法無補也。極知負罪,伏冀J31nB267_p0567c05慈原。

J31nB267_p0567c07息跡窮山,匪特避暑,兼以避事,非敢去此而就彼也。J31nB267_p0567c08蒙委曲調護山門,過愛亦為極矣。第絮衣行棘,日下J31nB267_p0567c09尚未能灑脫,敢布區區,不作贅語。
復孫非臺居士
J31nB267_p0567c11故山之不即返,前書具曰實以病緣,其他偶及之者J31nB267_p0567c12也。而大教再頒,明示詳切,豈敢後乎?苦病猶未起也。J31nB267_p0567c13承尊方伯孝廉公道契如夙,遠為存念,佛法之緣莫J31nB267_p0567c14大乎此,又惡敢忘哉?願假我日月,使得精神漸足,肢J31nB267_p0567c15節漸舒,自能奉教左右。若速其約束,深揣不能赴命。J31nB267_p0567c16賤軀厭事,舊院亦為暫棲,正在覓深林一枝,非敢厚J31nB267_p0567c17薄于其間,仰惟矜察。

J31nB267_p0567c25賤軀病日甚,台護愛愈深切,自傷不能匍匐副尊望,J31nB267_p0567c26厥罪惟深。區區賤齒,何足齒乎?某方以有生為累,轆J31nB267_p0567c27轤幻世,如環無端。即古趙州七百甲子,正眼觀之,亦J31nB267_p0567c28猶朝箘蟪蛄爭晦朔春秋之異,不亦悲夫!

J31nB267_p0567c30山中話別,歲暮長途,此中懷思,不無耿耿。得楊州寄J31nB267_p0568a01札,恍若把手,知于此時舍舟而陸,勞頓風塵,又可念J31nB267_p0568a02也。昔箕子陳九疇,微子白其馬,詩書所載,乃知至人J31nB267_p0568a03應世,一龍一蛇,隨時津濟。春光滿谷,林色放青,遙憶J31nB267_p0568a04起居,諒多納吉耳。古南出半年矣,舟來屢次,勉為一J31nB267_p0568a05往。當此春陽,豈可使山中寂寞?卜之神人,命西堂以J31nB267_p0568a06代法任,輿情僉喜。綠陰石上,耑候道顏。

J31nB267_p0568a08某啟。憶自丁亥秋,過辱台翰,命主破山一席,於茲三J31nB267_p0568a09年矣。法緣所至,鳥性人心,均為歡喜,此莫非護法弘J31nB267_p0568a10願所加被,敢忘所自哉?自夏入秋,每思走訊毗耶,側J31nB267_p0568a11聆深誨,竟以泄病時作,弗克遂願。今病轉深,竊念古J31nB267_p0568a12德應世,行解卓犖,尚嫌住持事繁,況某蚊虻之力,曷J31nB267_p0568a13克久肩泰山?夙興夜寐,切思一茅,以適餘生,惟護法J31nB267_p0568a14原其情而憫焉。某又念靈山一花有識,不輕拈示,以J31nB267_p0568a15非具眼,談真逆俗矣。所以雲棲家法,作息空山,六時J31nB267_p0568a16蓮漏,三根獲益,選佛之場,至今有繼。破山倣此,必永J31nB267_p0568a17其傳。洞祖在山諸法,屬在近主持,諒有人也。
簡王兆吉護法
J31nB267_p0568a19前在茶亭,承台駕枉顧雪竇法兄,得接聆清言。臨別J31nB267_p0568a20時,又蒙囑一人佐監院,仰佩盛德,深為法門。然某細J31nB267_p0568a21籌之,佐者不無其人,但難湊破山之局,雖強立之,決J31nB267_p0568a22然無恒。今監院且辭矣,時節因緣,某亦當他山自適。J31nB267_p0568a23一枝聊寄,不妨道氣自居;千載名藍,難徇世俗行事。J31nB267_p0568a24山門在,土田在,無愁肩任絕人;十方來,眷屬來,一聽J31nB267_p0568a25機緣成熟。仰惟護法,鑑此愚衷,既為法親,聆教有日。
辭孫非臺護法
J31nB267_p0568a27別來數日,秋風漸涼,籬菊英英,南山在眼,悠然可思。J31nB267_p0568a28興福山門,如將麋鹿置之罟阱,今願作閒人,此情乞J31nB267_p0568a29原之也。石橋流水,鶯谷芳蘭,容日圖晤,再挹清芬。
簡能仁禾陳和尚
J31nB267_p0568b01能仁聞在闤闠中,縉紳士信,酬酢必繁,自非吾兄寬J31nB267_p0568b02裕之材,何以應之?雖然,令行吳越,既為臨濟烜赫兒J31nB267_p0568b03孫,仰望為法加餐,為道珍攝,吾宗幸甚!末學幸甚!
復宛陵詹曰至居士
J31nB267_p0568b05宛陵勝地,士君子傑出古今,亦大顯著矣。而門下又J31nB267_p0568b06遙登太白,親見先師,同脈之誼,溢于華箋。西望敬亭,J31nB267_p0568b07殊深景仰。辱以廣教開荒,所愧年方知命,衰病相尋,J31nB267_p0568b08項上五百斤鐵枷已幸脫卻。方將覓水山深處,適此J31nB267_p0568b09餘生,開荒利眾,豈復勝其任哉?石隱曰:「宛之有道,萃J31nB267_p0568b10而如林,蓋多古裴公矣,不難興起一今黃檗。」因諭之J31nB267_p0568b11曰:「鍼芥固難值也,奈衰病何?揮麈尾於曲彔,手腳已J31nB267_p0568b12倦;變瓦礫為珠林,神用何能?然惟大哉祖庭,淪落已J31nB267_p0568b13久,而外護眷眷不忘,將必有大乘開士者出,結香花J31nB267_p0568b14之因,蹴龍象之步,跂予望之。」石隱曰:「師病謝事,及門J31nB267_p0568b15目擊,何敢過強?第無往不復,某當賚師意語諸護法,J31nB267_p0568b16使不旦夕懸懸也。」因其行,仍囑之曰:「善為我辭,子之J31nB267_p0568b17任也。」
復棲真林野和尚
J31nB267_p0568b19齒亞吾兄,不意頓成衰廢在邇,實惟兄在念,而乃經J31nB267_p0568b20歲不通音問者,嬾又居于骨也。如是人者,而可主大J31nB267_p0568b21剎、恢祖庭哉?此弟量己行事也。吾兄精神強于弟,且J31nB267_p0568b22輔贊有人,此不得而辭者。天氣寒暄不定,法體在途,J31nB267_p0568b23千祈保愛。
復廣潤木陳和尚
J31nB267_p0568b25從上尊宿被人推向曲彔床上,接物利生,無敢或怠。J31nB267_p0568b26苟其力不充,別無他策,秪有退院自適一著而已。弟J31nB267_p0568b27非疲于津梁,年來實衰敗矣,蹔覓數椽于三家村裏,J31nB267_p0568b28豈好事哉?亦出於不得已也。聞能仁、弘護攀留甚切,J31nB267_p0568b29恐難逕庭,然用之則行,舍吾兄奚適?而弟欲退藏,尚J31nB267_p0568b30未得其所,宣郡道信雖則嚮風,病駑豈堪復驟長途?J31nB267_p0568c01承諭緱城山色固為吉祥,恐不容人飽食安眠無所J31nB267_p0568c02事事也。深自揆之,名山僧所宜也,而山不可買;小院J31nB267_p0568c03可藏頭也,而院仍有絆。日月逝矣,故人中如南兄徂J31nB267_p0568c04落者非一人矣,自揣餘生能復幾何?嘉湖之間,流水J31nB267_p0568c05洋洋,煙樹羃羃,汎一艇,持一竿,明月清風,可南可北,J31nB267_p0568c06非踵船子而攀性空,審時自適,庶幾可必。他日吾兄J31nB267_p0568c07有念相存,其亦問諸水濱乎?二錄見示,典贍婉博,絕J31nB267_p0568c08非時吻,超然獨出也。大梅柱杖足以扶衰,而隆惠稠J31nB267_p0568c09疊,使人愧汗。尊侍還山,囑言寄候。時臨溽暑,惟道體J31nB267_p0568c10為法保攝。不備。
復興化護法
J31nB267_p0568c12久嚮昭陽,濟濟多士,夙承佛記,木鐸斯民,豈獨纘緒J31nB267_p0568c13聖門,即出世一大事因緣,靡不躬行而心得也。夢寐J31nB267_p0568c14高山,自深景仰。某邇者偶攜笠笻,縱觀山水於鐵甕J31nB267_p0568c15城邊,忽接台翰,則病比丘又與大宰官居士隔江相J31nB267_p0568c16見也。日下金焦雖登,肢體頗倦,方就藥餌,未遑俶裝,J31nB267_p0568c17意候來月望後,躬造貴邑,圖領清教,希恕不恭。
寄雪竇石奇和尚
J31nB267_p0568c19八月初得手札,知山中安穩,殿材皆就,非兄福德殊J31nB267_p0568c20勝,曷能于干戈擾攘之中,民生𬏳瘵之際,而古道場J31nB267_p0568c21有如斯興舉耶?弟久處荒村,四體因頓,思一放浪山J31nB267_p0568c22水,以散鬱懷。九月登金焦,有鶴林之住;十月過鶴林,J31nB267_p0568c23復有興化之行。求無事而事生,殊非初意。然興化乃J31nB267_p0568c24吾兄化境,緇素相集,幸皆知有此事,較興福費心十J31nB267_p0568c25不一二,病軀稍可應接,或得過冬也。遙望乳峰,巍巍J31nB267_p0568c26天外,何啻千里,懷思可知。
與黎大沖長者
J31nB267_p0568c28道座高年矣,乃醉心於箇中事,將從上機緣留神參J31nB267_p0568c29究。般若種子正宜如是培養,有會意處亦不妨發于J31nB267_p0568c30語言,但不可以有心為之,久久浸潤,不覺洋溢,所謂J31nB267_p0569a01水到渠成,毫不費力也。然不須多,如白雲一頌,浮山J31nB267_p0569a02聞之便自服膺。承示不敢閱者,更有微意焉。道座與J31nB267_p0569a03紹箕老久受雪竇和尚法誨,是宜錄以呈之,非法中J31nB267_p0569a04有界限體裁如是也。紹老難一時與之細語,其頌稿J31nB267_p0569a05并附到晤時為言其故可也。不盡。
復吳鹿友相公附來書
J31nB267_p0569a07甡於世已矣,只欠一死,謬附遯野之義。不入城市、J31nB267_p0569a08不接知交者,業經八年,老病侵寂,守一丘,荊、柴以J31nB267_p0569a09外,俱付不見不聞。甡之于禪也,直逃焉而已。頃聞J31nB267_p0569a10古南禪師卓錫昭陽,一水菰蒲中,豈堪龍象蹴踏J31nB267_p0569a11耶?大善知識最為難遇,而甡持心戒,不獲展謁,親J31nB267_p0569a12承巾拂,鬱歉何如?目前急求證明者,惟生死二字。J31nB267_p0569a13古德云:生何所來?死何所去?夫父母未生前,認取J31nB267_p0569a14本來面目,是生有所來;楖栗橫擔不顧人,直入千J31nB267_p0569a15峰萬峰去,是死有所去。然而經云:「無所從來,亦無J31nB267_p0569a16所去。」豈必知有去來而後能了生死,能了生死而J31nB267_p0569a17後無生死、無去來也耶?《易》曰:「原始要終,故知死生J31nB267_p0569a18之說。」又云:「游魂為變。」而宋儒則謂:「人死則氣散,居J31nB267_p0569a19恒為見聞所縛,遽難了脫。」我師不惜金篦,方便開J31nB267_p0569a20示,豁其盲聾,免于流浪。即今衰朽而植茲善種,猶J31nB267_p0569a21可俟再生也。
J31nB267_p0569a22某愚鈍無似,入法以來,聞般若種子有生同具,乃不J31nB267_p0569a23肯自負靈根,行腳浙東,叨沐天童先師法乳,遂過為J31nB267_p0569a24緇流所目。然慧不足以盡佛,緣不足以蒞眾,浪出人J31nB267_p0569a25前者,數年餘矣。今秋病枯神悴,厭冗求閒,登金焦,觀J31nB267_p0569a26大江,欽仰高風,凌然世表。承賢公子偕諸有道招,過J31nB267_p0569a27城西極樂院,與四方龍象聊結法緣。自念疏野,未敢J31nB267_p0569a28托楮墨問訊,然而夙興夜寐,莫不在大庇中。茲蒙授J31nB267_p0569a29佳章,兼賜和拙語,穆如肆好,瓊瑤之錫,未足云喻。且J31nB267_p0569a30隆惠稠疊,猶潤涸魚,其喜洋洋。某竊自惟,素昧生平,J31nB267_p0569b01何以辱眷念如是?得非往者同席靈山,法盟有自,至J31nB267_p0569b02今無間耶?所諭生死二字,乃有生之同患,其實又千J31nB267_p0569b03聖入法之要領。蓋思去其患,則進乎法;進乎法,則生J31nB267_p0569b04死自空矣。經云「無所從來,亦無所去」者,正言諸法實J31nB267_p0569b05相有生,本體元無生死也,非實生有所來也。「楖栗橫J31nB267_p0569b06擔不顧人,直入千峰萬峰去。」宗宿立言,別有旨趣,非J31nB267_p0569b07云死有所去也。蓋生從何來?死從何去?古德用以警J31nB267_p0569b08悟學人,如桶底脫者,生從何來?死從何去?即是無生J31nB267_p0569b09死句。或未能之,即令學人參此生死也。本體元無生J31nB267_p0569b10死,而令人加參者,猶明德本明,或者蔽之,聖人向之J31nB267_p0569b11曰:明明德也。一指本體,一示參功,兩者相須。若徒言J31nB267_p0569b12參功,不言本體,則參功無所歸宿;或彰本體,不示參J31nB267_p0569b13功,則本體末由發明。此聖人為中淺根,示其準的也。J31nB267_p0569b14今閣下恒究佛祖之大機,深明聖賢之大用,生死涅J31nB267_p0569b15槃,誠如昨夢,豁彼聾聵,下采芻蕘,博濟之念為何如?J31nB267_p0569b16《易》云:「游魂為變。」直變而已,非散之之謂也。精氣為物,J31nB267_p0569b17直言精氣為物耳。既為物,則物在,謂死且散,宋儒立J31nB267_p0569b18義或未然耶?聖門之學,一本性德,而易其元也。孟軻J31nB267_p0569b19氏曰:志,氣之帥也。志行仁而氣隨之,志行義而氣亦J31nB267_p0569b20隨之,無氣是無志也。氣可散,其如志何?精即志之所J31nB267_p0569b21凝結,如無志,先聖賢曰:仁與義。仁義豈從空而立耶?J31nB267_p0569b22本性德也。性德在天地,死且不朽,而如薪如木,然灰J31nB267_p0569b23即散,則曷貴乎性德?是必不然也。某少失學,未測易J31nB267_p0569b24奧,過辱垂問,管見漫陳。且夫陵遷谷移,盛衰迭換,今J31nB267_p0569b25古同然,而閣下遵時養晦,退藏於密,即此一念子,為J31nB267_p0569b26天地根,為萬物母,歷千古而不磨。或於生死有疑,室J31nB267_p0569b27中宴坐,乞暫移此念,看一二則極切近話。《心經》一篇,J31nB267_p0569b28誦者千萬,講者亦千萬,其間有云「無眼耳鼻舌身意」,J31nB267_p0569b29此句甚好。居恒常問:衲子無眼耳鼻舌身意,試摩頂J31nB267_p0569b30至踵,畢竟是個甚麼?此處豁然未生、已生一串穿卻,J31nB267_p0569c01極是省力。昔百丈侍馬祖,山行見野鴨子,祖曰:「是甚J31nB267_p0569c02麼?」丈云:「野鴨子。」祖曰:「何處去也?」丈曰:「飛過去也。」祖遂J31nB267_p0569c03扭丈鼻,丈作聲,祖曰:「又道飛過去也。」丈悟入。百丈答J31nB267_p0569c04處,甚是分明。馬祖無端屈人,扭他鼻子,意在于何?畢J31nB267_p0569c05竟是野鴨子,不是野鴨子?但如是看,不必作心性會,J31nB267_p0569c06不必作道理會,不必作迷悟會,不必將儒釋和會,不J31nB267_p0569c07必生難易想。案頭雖有諸禪典,敢請暫置,不必多閱,J31nB267_p0569c08則聞見自泯;聞見泯,則岐解不生;岐解不生,便是參J31nB267_p0569c09情得力,生死路將次絕矣。古云:用志不分,乃凝於神。J31nB267_p0569c10或若和者一念子放下,一超直入,便與從上佛祖把J31nB267_p0569c11臂共行,外而河山大地,近而五官百骸,全體是光明J31nB267_p0569c12藏,全體是大歇場,全體是閣下大受用境界,卻來觀J31nB267_p0569c13世間,猶如夢中事,是非成敗何足云乎?宋時無盡、子J31nB267_p0569c14韶、東坡、魯直諸君子,皆現生取證,其方已驗,惟閣下J31nB267_p0569c15留神焉。
復孫光甫
J31nB267_p0569c17頂山寺,三十年前曾一寄跡,規模雖隘,而深僻可愛。J31nB267_p0569c18彼其時寺僧落落四五,皆傳習應事,早出而暮歸。為J31nB267_p0569c19僧司者,每有需索,以奴隸指揮之。而大家伻僕,或有J31nB267_p0569c20過門,少有不週,遂加呼斥,非若待近郭阿蘭若也。寺J31nB267_p0569c21眾且安之,高尚清脩,有所未喻,亦莫或告之也。今純J31nB267_p0569c22肅能撤弊廬,成新搆,化應為禪,亦所謂克家諍兒,邑J31nB267_p0569c23中大護,垂護之功德非淺。古云:靡不有初,鮮克有終。J31nB267_p0569c24苟純肅能三月不違,東山能一鐺自若,苦而有恒,久J31nB267_p0569c25而無怠,聞見取信,山靈當踴躍歡喜矣。片帆秋掛,定J31nB267_p0569c26當隨大駕後塵,一為隨喜。
復孫非臺
J31nB267_p0569c28業緣所牽,自南忽北,竊承道愛,憶誦不忘。今夏水患,J31nB267_p0569c29無處不患。鐵甕城雖高,而江南北俱荒,謂不在巨浸J31nB267_p0569c30中,無是理也。如何!如何!夫子固窮,暫于陳、蔡。座下常J31nB267_p0570a01處陳、蔡而固其窮,殆有甚于夫子矣。念之!念之!頂山J31nB267_p0570a02荒涼之地,乃蒙令弟輩拮据護持,此山之幸也。然此J31nB267_p0570a03林廬與夫時節,只可負一钁、煨一鐺,作住山計。設欲J31nB267_p0570a04大規模、聚廣眾,便為失策矣。為今日計,東山甘枯澹,J31nB267_p0570a05要其無倦;純肅脫所在,要其有恒。斯不負鄉先生、鄉J31nB267_p0570a06長者垂護維新之念耳。
寄王言遠
J31nB267_p0570a08自道駕南行,臨流撫竹,未嘗不懷思也。客秋過京口,J31nB267_p0570a09領金焦之勝,遂之興化,晤徐封翁華國。見彼家信,因J31nB267_p0570a10知道體在彼平安也,慰慰。其時即附一信與德悟,使J31nB267_p0570a11告府上。初春從興化轉至京口,又為好事者留住鶴J31nB267_p0570a12林。然鶴林名剎也,米南宮久於此為伽藍,奇其事雖J31nB267_p0570a13允輿情,而蹤跡在往來間。三月下浣歸舊院,承令公J31nB267_p0570a14子來顧,益知道履康勝,而喜徐封翁前語為確。且聞J31nB267_p0570a15道用因時救物,全活甚眾,好生之德,洽于炎鄉。而衲J31nB267_p0570a16兀坐荒院,日以衰落,長年碌碌,于法無補。用世寄世,J31nB267_p0570a17固天壤耶!古南方丈既承尊旨,未敢遽辭,然已自認J31nB267_p0570a18謝事長老。邇來齒頻墮,神益衰,粥飯之外,更無餘想。J31nB267_p0570a19所冀道駕榮旋之日,竹下溪頭,促膝談笑,慰我生平J31nB267_p0570a20耳。雲山千里,無將寸忱,敬托空箋,一傾積誼。惟望臨J31nB267_p0570a21下保民,起居珍攝自愛。
柬金壇蔣楚珍護法
J31nB267_p0570a23金蘭膠漆,水乳芥鍼,時節到來,卒然相遇,不知其合,J31nB267_p0570a24此亦有大不可思議者矣。某初仰門下,蓋于道駕蒞J31nB267_p0570a25台,垂庇靈鷲時,經今數載,雖深企慕,天各一方。不意J31nB267_p0570a26于鶴林敝寺,忽辱枉駕,而孤蹤正南游嘉禾,方以失J31nB267_p0570a27迓為罪,乃執事詳述護法之誼,出于尋常。拙錄本齊J31nB267_p0570a28東之語,而垂青愛之;荒山乃江千之垤,而移玉相之。J31nB267_p0570a29惟山與人,不夙有大因緣乎?以此推之,古今受佛囑J31nB267_p0570a30衛正法者,世正不少,寧獨米伽藍擅美于宋代?及歸,J31nB267_p0570b01即思躬叩丈室,緣逼夏制,茲將買棹,傳聞大水,塘路J31nB267_p0570b02洋溢,慮有不便,因命監院先過進謁,伏乞門下諒之。
柬蔣虎臣太史
J31nB267_p0570b04鶴林二月,山花未開,承春風馬蹄,偕諸君子垂顧草J31nB267_p0570b05樹,燁然生色。且不鄙山野,促膝斗室,坐談及暮,開心J31nB267_p0570b06論法,語味詳密,鉤深素隱,因知門下般若夙薰,非淺J31nB267_p0570b07淺所能窺矣。不踰旬日,復承尊翁大護枉駕,兼授隆J31nB267_p0570b08貺,雲山相隔,惟合掌遙謝。且聞行旌北上,深以祖庭J31nB267_p0570b09荒落為念,山野于是有感于中。夫鶴林之錫名,昉于J31nB267_p0570b10宋武,土田梵宇,甲于他山,歷千有餘歲,而香火僅存。J31nB267_p0570b11逮明季也,古基湮而卑殿逼,非五臺公聯諸護法,鳴J31nB267_p0570b12諸當道,則賢祠梵剎殆將同淪草莽,後世無聞矣。言J31nB267_p0570b13之能不憮然?今山野衰病,退隱于茲,巍巍祖庭,未能J31nB267_p0570b14振刷萬一,得門下一垂念之,則天龍為之鼓舞,魔外J31nB267_p0570b15必然辟易,玄素宏規,米公生面,自可重新江表矣。此J31nB267_p0570b16山野有望於門下所欲言者也。
柬興化吳鹿友相國
J31nB267_p0570b18承賜諸什,佩之南遊。偶接吳越諸君子,出以示之,靡J31nB267_p0570b19不歎賞捧翫,不啻如南金和璠之重,皆欲置塵轅,願J31nB267_p0570b20游禪域。哲人之辭,興感乃如是耶?茲者月當流火,井J31nB267_p0570b21忽飄梧,遙想台履,日恒月升,既多受祉,而佛心祖語,J31nB267_p0570b22又必得其大機大用矣。或製有新什,惟冀見示。某在J31nB267_p0570b23鶴林懶病,雖兼幸人事希少,恒在涼風脩竹邊,但一J31nB267_p0570b24江之隔,未能時聆好音為念。
寄李平菴文學
J31nB267_p0570b26客冬抵足溪菴,火爐茶銚,談笑詠歌,幾忘緇素法喜J31nB267_p0570b27之樂,真希有也。自貴邑以之京口,自京口以之吳門J31nB267_p0570b28及舊院,僕僕往返,甚為勞苦。到鶴林已夏時也,又緣J31nB267_p0570b29有眾無糧,執事日夕告急,經畫籌慮,皆米鹽瑣屑事,J31nB267_p0570b30求一息如極樂之灑然,不能得也,竊自感之。道座篤J31nB267_p0570c01信好學,探賾索隱,教義性理,皆極其至,歸元發真,向J31nB267_p0570c02上一機,所冀時中勿忘。古所謂無義味話者,幸留神J31nB267_p0570c03加察,卒然相應,踏佛頂𩕳,不為分外。望之!望之!
寄宣城詹曰至
J31nB267_p0570c05貧道年運往矣,客歲蒙惠札,勸脩裴、黃故事,愧不能J31nB267_p0570c06承命。然銜誼實深,良以祖庭法運,人事天時,必相須J31nB267_p0570c07而後成,貧道恐非其人也。若夫兩水明鏡,雙橋彩虹,J31nB267_p0570c08名山勝境,常以為懷。惜足力告衰,濟勝之具已缺,特J31nB267_p0570c09坐游于謫仙佳句,坡公所謂「我持此石歸,袖中有東J31nB267_p0570c10海」,庶幾云耳。忍徒久欲結茅,不意直來貴郡,得座下J31nB267_p0570c11安撫之,亦甚感也。石隱乃深入層峰,殊有古人操履,J31nB267_p0570c12可嘉!可嘉!然貧道以其臨事直率,望其來再一相聚,J31nB267_p0570c13少資磨礱,座下以為何如?
與諸千如待詔
J31nB267_p0570c15春間承過雲在,握手片時,忽又如萍如梗,泛泛靡寧。J31nB267_p0570c16嗟乎!日月逝矣,歲不我與,回想山中法聚時,緇流白J31nB267_p0570c17衣不知幾人在也。眷言思之,能無戀戀於足下乎?同J31nB267_p0570c18師化去,不覺五年,念其求法一番辛苦,生平履歷行J31nB267_p0570c19行無偶,豈意斯人而有斯疾,遂之九原乎?以今觀之,J31nB267_p0570c20緇群不減,瑣瑣庸庸,百千人中能有此一人乎?良可J31nB267_p0570c21歎也!以其久交,不能忘情,略記生平,錄出當寄觀也。J31nB267_p0570c22世味日薄一日,天災年盛一年,大水彌漫貴鄉,將如J31nB267_p0570c23何可念也?
寄吳伯明
J31nB267_p0570c25湖山暌隔,歲月悠然,間晤道顏▆,鬚眉無恙,得以少J31nB267_p0570c26慰耳。座下佛種自深,天資迥俗,生公片石,不特賴以J31nB267_p0570c27金湯,直久交為故人,非多生之緣乎?東海易枯,劫灰J31nB267_p0570c28難辨,目前受用,正宜一蓑一艇,坐嘯行歌于白公堤J31nB267_p0570c29上,真達人樂事也。

J31nB267_p0571b04春初過梅溪,以院事逼勒,未得于寒香中耑候道駕。J31nB267_p0571b05茲來葑溪,葵榴爛然,而駕又適回府,晤會之緣或有J31nB267_p0571b06時耶?法當末世,朱紫混淆,即高明君子,每每務虛,熱J31nB267_p0571b07中冀稱僧聖,盡情埋沒一點良知。座下乃慥慥躬行,J31nB267_p0571b08區別稂莠,明鏡當臺,佛魔各還本形,此不獨末法金J31nB267_p0571b09湯,實希見之優曇缽花矣。西華鬼窟翻去,佛土莊嚴J31nB267_p0571b10將必有日,感激感激。然首座耑候喫楊梅,能如期入J31nB267_p0571b11山否?倘一葦杭之,猶得于靜室中俟開襟快談耳。
與諸合甫
J31nB267_p0571b13形神日敝,法運日薄,曲彔床,龜毛拂,漸覺無味。惟故J31nB267_p0571b14交相值,開襟話舊,則樂與晨夕,此近況也。勝公來,得J31nB267_p0571b15手札,辭意殷殷,恍若晤對于玉峰蘭若中。時節若此,J31nB267_p0571b16賑饑為急務,仁者之心,好生之德,拔苦與樂,亦何多J31nB267_p0571b17讓于老瞿曇耶?力行可也。舊穀不登,檀施絕少,承惠J31nB267_p0571b18猶在,涸轍得潤,斗水所感,大于河漢。謝謝不一。
與葛瑞五
J31nB267_p0571b20春初過梅溪,又過嘉善,遊錢園半月,聞公亦入西山J31nB267_p0571b21看梅。賞心是同,溪山各異,念之念之。所云《華嚴》、《宗鏡》,J31nB267_p0571b22學佛者必由之,而法性始寬,波瀾始大。得一星子見,J31nB267_p0571b23便自坐地,見太宗師垂手接人言語不一,呼為葛藤J31nB267_p0571b24者,此坎井之蛙,未可語天日也。娑婆稱缺陷世界,兒J31nB267_p0571b25女之緣或未能從心,則當以佛法為娛,消煩惱、破幻J31nB267_p0571b26夢,綽綽然使青山白雲常在胸次,何待他年始作汗J31nB267_p0571b27漫之遊乎?舟次吳門,作此相寄。葑溪齋中尚有十日,J31nB267_p0571b28留公盍歸乎來?
與葉嶽心
J31nB267_p0571b30饑饉薦臻,法社冷落,衲子馳騖,拒之良難。流水行雲,J31nB267_p0571c01非無定蹤,亦息肩一策耳。日下偶又艤舟葑溪,開篋J31nB267_p0571c02讀除夕、元旦二詩,觸境命詞,皆得性情之正。雖然,滄J31nB267_p0571c03桑自古何常,此是彼非,不若兩忘而化于道。誦金人J31nB267_p0571c04三緘之銘,喻風人明哲之旨矣。緣事固無應者,時節J31nB267_p0571c05艱危,告匱何啻小家。然與其愛妄費傾千金之橐,不J31nB267_p0571c06若踏實地下福田一粒種子。明智者或點首焉。
與陸平叔居士
J31nB267_p0571c08客歲兩過高齋,叨法供,齒頰至今猶香也。所諭《宗鏡》J31nB267_p0571c09一序,碌碌中每念之,旋失之。春仲桃李芳菲之際,不J31nB267_p0571c10幸得一疾,拘攣逼迫,不可以言。幸因得疾而杜門謝J31nB267_p0571c11客,得閒得閒而序斯成。雖妍醜不自知,然謂有此可J31nB267_p0571c12以報命,病之能益人亦奇矣。不獨此也,憶向之行腳J31nB267_p0571c13時多病,以病求脫生死愈切,以其切故得㘞地一聲;J31nB267_p0571c14出世時又多病,以病而常念靜退,念靜退而畏結援J31nB267_p0571c15顯者。于今思之,蓋初病者策我見道也,厭苦不深,求J31nB267_p0571c16道不篤也;末病者牖我知幾也,所謂樹高招風,晚食J31nB267_p0571c17甘于肉,安步穩于車也。人未有生而不病者,乃世間J31nB267_p0571c18則卜筮醫藥,嗟歎呻吟,徒病而已。若因病而生惕勵,J31nB267_p0571c19則病未嘗不進乎道也。此學佛人之病,有異乎世間J31nB267_p0571c20之病也。足下學佛者,偶筆及之。
