師訪于野居士坐次野云:「請問和尚既是三教一家J40nB478_p0091b05何行事相反?」師云:「造到極處自是不別若論膚淺之J40nB478_p0091b06能不角立相反耶?」野云:「如何是三教極處?」師云:「J40nB478_p0091b07言也。」野云:「要請和尚指示。」師云:「到此極處豈可以言J40nB478_p0091b08豈可以識識在默契之而。」野云:「既曰難言而又J40nB478_p0091b09何有三教之說?」師云:「三教之說有精有粗有權有實J40nB478_p0091b10若論精實之詣乃不言不識之旨也粗權者乃講明J40nB478_p0091b11精實之詣也。」野云:「又請教貴教中不言不識之旨為J40nB478_p0091b12何如?」師云:「我教中非是不言其所言者意在言外J40nB478_p0091b13隨語生解者未免墮在道理皆由知解遂失其旨。」J40nB478_p0091b14:「既不用道理不用知解從何處得入?」師云:「吾宗門J40nB478_p0091b15多用棒喝便是入處。」野云:「某甲所疑端在棒喝正要J40nB478_p0091b16請教。」師云:「棒喝既是入處又何疑之有然棒喝祖我J40nB478_p0091b17釋迦文佛睹星一著末後拈花契旨傳至四七二三J40nB478_p0091b18二三之後展轉傳至山僧從上來有賓主接人者J40nB478_p0091b19兼帶接人者有圓相接人者有一句三句接人者J40nB478_p0091b20箭鋒相拄接人者總不若棒喝直切痛快獲益良多J40nB478_p0091b21而世人粗浮不識反將醍醐為毒藥也。」野云:「如何纔J40nB478_p0091b22得棒喝中痛快?」師云:「未開口前早未舉手前早J40nB478_p0091b23棒也還會麼?」野云:「既未開口喝從何來既未舉手J40nB478_p0091b24棒從何來?」師云:「公太不唧溜若知來處必先得箇入J40nB478_p0091b25試問公有耳麼早晚聞驢鳴犬吠便是喝入處J40nB478_p0091b26有身麼能知澀滑便是棒入處與麼契得痛快平生J40nB478_p0091b27不待棒喝而自明矣復待舉而尚疑乎?」野云:「棒喝之J40nB478_p0091b28似乎無味。」師云:「時人多向有味中求不肯於無味J40nB478_p0091b29中會且如山僧即今連棒連喝公還擬議商量得麼J40nB478_p0091b30復作道理得麼若作商量作道理得則顏子不當心J40nB478_p0091c01齋坐忘墮體黜聰也亦不當甘心於無味也公還肯J40nB478_p0091c02信此不言不識之旨乎?」野不覺踴躍有箇入處乃云J40nB478_p0091c03今日始知我顏子坐忘黜聰之謂也。」遂慇懃留宿J40nB478_p0091c04知從上祖師門庭施設直切痛快無如棒喝也師辭J40nB478_p0091c05野贈以別敘

雲云:「久仰和尚特來求和尚指示。」師云:「若論指示J40nB478_p0091c26德有三種接人上上人來閉門打睡接他中等人來J40nB478_p0091c27瞬目揚眉接他下等人來方以言語接他不過使其J40nB478_p0091c28自得之而故曰道在日用奈何日用不知道在尋J40nB478_p0091c29奈何尋常不識所以不領古人奧旨者多矣。」雲云J40nB478_p0091c30釋門多是空寂空寂者莫是喜怒未發時耶?」師舉拂J40nB478_p0092a01:「還會麼?」雲罔措師云:「居士大事未明徒言空寂J40nB478_p0092a02增口過耳若論未發如木中有火火未發時誰謂無J40nB478_p0092a03而言無者但欠一鑽耳。」士懡㦬而退

明云:「某甲年老禪道難習但持些經念些佛以了餘J40nB478_p0092a06。」師云:「不然一息尚存此志不容少懈且持經念佛J40nB478_p0092a07猶勞心力但直下信得一切現成有甚能與不能?」J40nB478_p0092a08:「老身貪睡患不能行。」師云:「學道在心何關身事J40nB478_p0092a09達其本末亦不昧。」明云:「如何是不昧處?」師云:「日用之J40nB478_p0092a10語默動靜行住坐臥遇境逢緣喜怒哀樂何時昧J40nB478_p0092a11但溺於情識故謂之昧耳切忌舍此日用而別求J40nB478_p0092a12不昧也。」明禮拜而退

士云:「弟子儒門中學習雖多求其繼道統者萬中無J40nB478_p0092a15。」師云:「非特儒門但徒說而不能行者多然亦不知J40nB478_p0092a16下手處常用知識攙和其間分疏不下所以與道相J40nB478_p0092a17。」璧云:「請問和尚如何下手?」師云:「孟子所謂勿助勿J40nB478_p0092a18忘便好下手。」璧云:「如何是勿助勿忘?」師擊棹一下J40nB478_p0092a19還助得麼?」復擊一下:「還忘得麼?」璧停思師云:「擬議J40nB478_p0092a20之間白雲萬里。」璧便出師送至門璧以手指胸:「J40nB478_p0092a21今知這箇在腔子裏。」師喚璧璧應諾師云:「走出腔子J40nB478_p0092a22來了。」璧云:「仍收進去。」師云:「大費力生。」

師在平越一日赴護國寺齋次有僧持紙一幅乞字J40nB478_p0092b07師云:「寫字之說如酒帘相似。」一僧云:「正是。」師云:「諸方J40nB478_p0092b08酒在一邊帘在一邊山僧酒在帘裏。」僧云:「將得兩杓J40nB478_p0092b09來麼?」師云:「勿酒顛好。」僧撫掌作酒顛勢師云:「果然J40nB478_p0092b10。」

一日師行次有僧失腳跌倒師云:「跌牛跌馬。」僧云:「J40nB478_p0092b12不相救?」師喚僧僧應諾師云:「跌驢馬。」僧於言下有省J40nB478_p0092b13:「和尚真婆心。」師不顧拽杖便行

僧參師拈起拄杖云:「!」僧從東過西師擲下拄杖J40nB478_p0092b15:「!」僧云:「恁麼早是不著便那堪更道?」便出師喚J40nB478_p0092b16闍黎!」僧回首師云:「三十棒記在來朝。」

師一日見僧乃舉拄杖云:「我喚作拄杖你喚作什麼?」J40nB478_p0092b18僧云:「不可頭上安頭。」師又問:「一口氣不來向什麼處J40nB478_p0092b19?」僧作臥勢師云:「不要者樣做秪要道一語。」僧云:「J40nB478_p0092b20裏何曾走?」師謂侍者云:「拖這死屍出去。」

師室中問僧云:「我有時拈護國向白衣菴裏有時拈J40nB478_p0092b22白衣向護國寺去你道我即今在什麼處?」僧云:「護國J40nB478_p0092b23白衣菴。」師云:「三頭兩面漢。」僧無對師便打

僧請益:「學人有妄起時如何除得?」師云:「妄無自性J40nB478_p0092b25全體即真當出處生隨處滅盡你喚什麼作妄?」僧聞J40nB478_p0092b26通身踴躍從前痼癖一時頓瘳:「學人命根今日斷J40nB478_p0092b27。」師云:「老僧信你不及試道看。」僧禮拜歸位而立J40nB478_p0092b28笑歸方丈

師同眾經行次有僧云:「終日經行不知走了多少路?」J40nB478_p0092b30師云:「前三三後三三。」復云:「是多少?」僧無語師云:「數且J40nB478_p0092c01你尚不知掠虛頭作麼?」便打

一僧請益師拈拂子云:「見麼?」僧奪拂子擊棹一下J40nB478_p0092c03:「未在。」僧不顧師云:「是非不得處道將一句看。」僧云J40nB478_p0092c04是非裏薦取。」師便打僧有省禮謝而退

師入園次僧云:「諸般總在生芽。」師云:「根在何處?」僧云J40nB478_p0092c06芽聻?」師云:「猶要亂統。」僧云:「畢竟根在何處?」師喚:「闍黎。」J40nB478_p0092c07僧應諾師云根在何處僧悟近前合掌云:「謝師慈悲。」J40nB478_p0092c08便拜師劈脊兩踏僧云:「做什麼?」師云:「不見道為人須J40nB478_p0092c09為徹。」

一僧看等圖:「不過是箇等圖。」師云:「泥裏有。」僧無J40nB478_p0092c11師便掌:「會麼?」僧無對師連掌打退

一日師領眾赴齋至一古祠邊于木上坐云:「在此上J40nB478_p0092c13有解問者置一問來。」僧問:「急水灘頭如何把柂?」J40nB478_p0092c14:「瞻之仰之。」僧進前三步師便喝僧拂袖便行師云J40nB478_p0092c15好箇阿師又與麼去也。」又一僧問云:「百尺竿頭如何J40nB478_p0092c16進步?」師云:「好與三十棒。」進云:「學人過在甚麼處?」師便J40nB478_p0092c17居士問:「諸樹發生因甚槐樹不發生?」師云:「榮者榮J40nB478_p0092c18枯者枯。」士無語師呵呵大笑便行

師歸菴一僧云:「和尚在古祠邊上堂日後還許五顯J40nB478_p0092c20神住麼?」師云:「汝道他少箇甚麼?」僧云:「怎奈五顯何?」J40nB478_p0092c21:「智者見之謂之智。」僧無語傍僧作挖耳勢師展兩J40nB478_p0092c22手云:「是金終不博金。」

一日師從方丈出一僧閉目而坐師近前作女人拜J40nB478_p0092c24僧走起便喝師不顧拽杖便行

一日師入城僧云:「請問和尚如何是善應諸方所?」J40nB478_p0092c26:「東門南門西門北門。」僧無語師云:「我行荒草裏J40nB478_p0092c27又入深村。」

師坐次主人捧心經至師前禮拜起白云:「大眾初進J40nB478_p0092c29無所知乞和尚就心經開示令渠得入。」師云:「若論J40nB478_p0092c30心經》,無時不開示也。」眾作禮師以經擲地僧拾經置J40nB478_p0093a01師座師云:「止止不須說我法妙難思。」便歸方丈

一僧作務師在傍有僧喚喫小食師云:「放下那頭J40nB478_p0093a03起這頭?」僧云:「提起放下有甚了日?」師云:「也須驗過。」J40nB478_p0093a04無語師云:「將謂識好惡。」

一日師出外會中有二僧問答師回一僧請師辨真J40nB478_p0093a06師云:「你舉看。」僧云:「某甲在芟草問同參:『和尚去後J40nB478_p0093a07大眾以何為主?』同參豎起拳某甲云:『四大壞時還有J40nB478_p0093a08這箇麼?』同參便喝復問某甲云:『你問我我則恁麼J40nB478_p0093a09問你又作麼生?』某甲便豎起莖草:『會麼?』同參便與J40nB478_p0093a10某甲一掌今來請師辨箇真偽。」師云:「棒喝交馳傍提J40nB478_p0093a11一半到這裏我也理會不得。」僧罔措師云:「將謂是華J40nB478_p0093a12頂峰頭客原來是平田莊裏人。」

僧問:「全身放下時如何?」師云:「到江吳地盡隔岸越山J40nB478_p0093a14。」僧擬議師便打
