J39nB445_p0355a06四明普陀別菴性統禪師,原籍潼川安岳,族龍氏,世J39nB445_p0355a07業儒。國朝新命,父明宇公歸農高梁,因為川東人。母J39nB445_p0355a08李氏方孕,明公夢白龍浮江,衛一童子入懷,囑善保J39nB445_p0355a09護。覺與李氏誓曰:「若生子,必令出家,現白龍,示淨業J39nB445_p0355a10也。」後果生師。甫三月,即延西龍無言禪師命名。六歲J39nB445_p0355a11就鄉塾,以資學冠一時。年十一,將謀脫白業,師鐘愛J39nB445_p0355a12之,不欲令僧,謂明公曰:「公之子誠科甲中人物,奈何J39nB445_p0355a13棄置乃爾?」是時總戎李公在側,詰師曰:「做官好?做和J39nB445_p0355a14尚好?」師曰:「做和尚好。」明公曰:「兒志自決矣。」值言公示J39nB445_p0355a15寂,遂拔高峰老人薙染,從又山證公習諸經論。久之,J39nB445_p0355a16請益峰參究下手工夫,峰曰:「只須向自家屋裡打點。」J39nB445_p0355a17乃將平日讀過經史從頭細檢究,無下手處。峰一日J39nB445_p0355a18▆論天命章,至莫見莫顯句,舉瓶鵝公案相發明,語J39nB445_p0355a19未了,師不覺欣然點首,峰驀面便掌,師曰:「出也,出也。」J39nB445_p0355a20峰呵呵大笑。是年圓晟命克侍司,適慶雲衡山禪師J39nB445_p0355a21至,師晨起問候,值山瞑目端坐次,師禮拜起,震威一J39nB445_p0355a22喝,山拈杖便打。師曰:「和尚棒折也。」山復端坐不顧。師J39nB445_p0355a23曰:「者老漢猶向者裡覓牛在。」山趨謂峰曰:「喜兄得箇J39nB445_p0355a24晚子了。」一日,隨峰山行次,與同參浩浩論義。峰顧師J39nB445_p0355a25曰:「汝只會得有,何曾會得無?」師愕然,無以對。命看趙J39nB445_p0355a26州無字話。經年,偶因峰舉百丈開田因緣,至展手處J39nB445_p0355a27大徹。峰詰以淆訛公案、五家宗旨,酬對無滯。時值峰J39nB445_p0355a28七旬,同門會聚,共請記莂於師。峰囑以偈曰:「佛祖位J39nB445_p0355a29中人,心如佛祖心。佛祖位中人,行如佛祖行。心行如J39nB445_p0355a30佛祖,自度度人竟。願汝能自度,還須共度人。憑汝心J39nB445_p0355b01與行,肇興我聚雲。莫辜同門望,莫負老僧心。叮嚀囑J39nB445_p0355b02付汝,乘願度群情。」尋俾首眾。康熙乙丑,峰歸寂,遂繼J39nB445_p0355b03席焉。因憶峰遺命,於次年走江浙,丐塔銘於嘉禾。子J39nB445_p0355b04相沈公,踵徑山掃大慧祖塔。會山曉禪師,邀入天童。J39nB445_p0355b05浙提贊伯陳公,同縉紳任甫屠公等,請主普陀。未幾,J39nB445_p0355b06值 聖駕南巡,降帑寵異,法社煥然一新。已已受武J39nB445_p0355b07林檀護請,兼挕東園永壽。
開爐,上堂。「照用齊施,全J39nB445_p0355b08殺中即全活;權實兼到,雙放處具雙收。剿絕根塵,掃J39nB445_p0355b09除窠臼。鉗錘高舉,一任煆凡煆聖;爐韝弘開,何妨烹J39nB445_p0355b10佛烹祖?頑銅鈍鐵,一氣銷鎔;躍冶真金,自無變色。普J39nB445_p0355b11圓通,沒闊窄,烈燄堆中一點雪。畢竟如何?季秋不▆,J39nB445_p0355b12孟冬猶熱。」擊拂子,下座。
上堂。「世尊不說說,迦葉不J39nB445_p0355b13聞聞。聞說俱不得,日午打三更。西方日出卯,南山下J39nB445_p0355b14雨北山雲。打麵還他州土麥,唱歌須是帝鄉人。桃花J39nB445_p0355b15入眼瘦,柳色照眉青。」
至節,上堂。「葭管灰飛一線天,J39nB445_p0355b16繡帷深鎖避嚴寒,東君懊惱情無極,故向梅腮點舊J39nB445_p0355b17顏。急薦取,莫瞞盰,恐待春臨花似錦,千紅萬紫不勝J39nB445_p0355b18看。」
上堂。問:「拈花一派,今日重宣。鎮海說法,普利人J39nB445_p0355b19天。世尊成道一句,速道速道。」師曰:「一人傳虛,萬人傳J39nB445_p0355b20實。」曰:「王恩施衣說戒,憲臺延座設齋。報答一句又作J39nB445_p0355b21麼生?」師曰:「協帝高懸心地印,從王細透祖師關。」曰:「雕J39nB445_p0355b22弓高掛狼煙息,四海謳歌樂太平。」師曰:「道泰不傳天J39nB445_p0355b23子令,時清休唱太平歌。」曰:「一箭雙鵰成玅道,總持萬J39nB445_p0355b24法定乾坤。」師曰:「如何是定乾坤句?」曰:「向上勿勞提持,J39nB445_p0355b25覿面即請分付。」師便打。曰:「大眾證盟。」師曰:「且莫詐明J39nB445_p0355b26頭。」問:「雲覆草廬成錦繡,巍巍氣象奪乾坤。門外許多J39nB445_p0355b27新弟子,誰作靈山第一人?」師曰:「獅子窟中無異獸。」曰:J39nB445_p0355b28「還有優劣也無?」師曰:「象王行處絕狐蹤。」曰:「恁麼則共J39nB445_p0355b29承記莂去也。」師曰:「切忌妄承當。」問:「人人鼻孔撩天,箇J39nB445_p0355b30箇心空及第。文殊是七佛之師,因甚出女子定不得?」J39nB445_p0355c01師曰:「當初無計入紅樓,入得紅樓休便休。」曰:「罔明大J39nB445_p0355c02士是初地菩薩,因甚出得女子定?」師曰:「不如當初不J39nB445_p0355c03相識,也無煩惱也無愁。」曰:「寒至梅先艷,春來花自香。」J39nB445_p0355c04師曰:「乾兌離震巽坎艮坤。」乃曰:「人人盡懷無價珠,何J39nB445_p0355c05待睹星方觸發?可怪瞿曇不唧溜,無端夜半顛狂發。J39nB445_p0355c06大眾須知:者顆無價衣珠,不從天降、不屬地生、匪從J39nB445_p0355c07人得,聖帝保此以奠定乾坤、王公保此以翼贊皇猷、J39nB445_p0355c08將軍保此以威行天下。當今皇恩浩蕩、海禁大弛,洛J39nB445_p0355c09伽勝地重整舊基、聖帝明王依珠不昧,提臺陳侯仰J39nB445_p0355c10承上意,委員飯僧、呵護戒壇,延請山僧陞於此座,無J39nB445_p0355c11非為汝諸人揭示無價衣珠。」豎拄杖,云:「喚作無價珠,J39nB445_p0355c12卻是拄杖子;喚作拄杖子,卻是無價珠。畢竟如何得J39nB445_p0355c13相應去?」卓拄杖,云:「從前汗馬無人識,只要重論蓋世J39nB445_p0355c14功。」
上堂。問:「煦日融融能照徹,大千世界不曾藏。大J39nB445_p0355c15千世界即不問,三玄三要事如何?」師曰:「次第問將來。」J39nB445_p0355c16曰:「如何是第一玄?」師曰:「崑崙赤腳點青天。」「如何是第J39nB445_p0355c17二玄?」師曰:「獅王反躑威音前。」「如何是第三玄?」師曰:「猢J39nB445_p0355c18猻上樹尾連顛。」曰:「如何是第一要?」師曰:「靈符把斷生J39nB445_p0355c19生竅。」「如何是第二要?」師曰:「屏絕端倪呈奧妙。」「如何是J39nB445_p0355c20第三要?」師曰:「浩浩紅塵那得到。」曰:「三玄三要蒙師指,J39nB445_p0355c21覿面相逢事如何?」師便打,僧禮拜。乃曰:「花雨繽紛洩J39nB445_p0355c22祖機,春風吹散滿柯枝。朱勻十二欄干曲,徙移其間J39nB445_p0355c23盡展眉。看破也乾坤失色,瞞盰著大地凝輝。機權別J39nB445_p0355c24展,殺活縱奪以齊施。就裡提持,照用主賓以互換。有J39nB445_p0355c25時捏聚大千,有時踏碎須彌。從教石女吹笙海底行,J39nB445_p0355c26木人掌板雲中拍。得得得,酥酪攪醍醐,醍醐變毒藥。J39nB445_p0355c27於此下得口來,廬陵白米一任飽餐。設或未然,喫水J39nB445_p0355c28也須防噎。」
天使賚帑金至,上堂。「堯天永戴,舜日長J39nB445_p0355c29明。一人有慶,萬國咸寧。海噬山陬,簡在帝心。恩給內J39nB445_p0355c30帑,為膏為霖。誰居化外,敢臥雲深。山無量,海無量,嵩J39nB445_p0356a01呼願祝於遐齡。」擔拄杖作舞祝勢,曰:「分付鳳凰池上J39nB445_p0356a02客,大家齊賀太平春。」
小參。「向上一路,千聖不傳;向J39nB445_p0356a03上一路,千聖不然。不傳不然,鳴聲熱碗。畢竟如何?」豎J39nB445_p0356a04拂子,曰:「箇是秦時𨍏轢鑽。」復舉:「睦州示眾云:『諸人未J39nB445_p0356a05得箇入處,須得箇入處;既得箇入處,切莫忘卻老僧。』J39nB445_p0356a06鼓山云:『恁麼說話,面皮厚多少?木菴則不然,諸人未J39nB445_p0356a07得箇入處,須得箇入處;既得箇入處,直須颺下入處J39nB445_p0356a08始得。』」師曰:「睦州憐兒不覺醜,帶累鼓山舌頭拖地,檢J39nB445_p0356a09點將來,二俱不了。普陀則不然,諸人未得箇入處,須J39nB445_p0356a10得箇入處;既得箇入處,快來者裡喫棒。」
解七,小參。J39nB445_p0356a11「連日無端,東葛西葛,惑亂諸人,墮拔舌犁耕去也。」乃J39nB445_p0356a12張口,曰:「看山僧舌頭還在麼?」良久,曰:「欲得不招無間J39nB445_p0356a13業,莫謗如來正法轉。」
小參。問:「生從何來?」師拈拄杖J39nB445_p0356a14曰:「從者裡來。」「死從何去?」師打曰:「從者裡去。」曰:「不生不J39nB445_p0356a15滅,畢竟在甚麼處?」師放下拄杖曰:「甚麼處曾生滅?」問:J39nB445_p0356a16「祖意西來即不問,臨濟三句請師宣。」師曰:「你從那裡J39nB445_p0356a17記得來?」曰:「第一句薦得,堪與佛祖為師。如何是第一J39nB445_p0356a18句?」師曰:「龜毛長三尺。」「第二句薦得,堪與人天為師。如J39nB445_p0356a19何是第二句?」師曰:「翻轉威音前。」「第三句薦得,自救不J39nB445_p0356a20了。如何是第三句?」師曰:「再道即不堪。」曰:「三句蒙師指,J39nB445_p0356a21普陀意若何?」師曰:「誰許汝覷著。」乃曰:「一大藏教,未曾J39nB445_p0356a22說著一字。說甚玄要主賓,殺活縱奪,生死章句,堪當J39nB445_p0356a23宗乘。古往今來,行棒行喝,施照施用,盡是一盲引眾J39nB445_p0356a24盲。普陀者裡,一味平實接待,不作奇特商量。結制,不J39nB445_p0356a25教參禪考工,不提悟道。困倦者教伊休息,惰慢者逼J39nB445_p0356a26伊勤謹。聽伊行住坐臥,運出家珍。周旋俯仰,不借他J39nB445_p0356a27力。一箇箇淨裸裸、赤灑灑,無生死可究、無佛法可得,J39nB445_p0356a28堪與佛祖為師、堪與人天為師,說甚自救不了。任運J39nB445_p0356a29騰騰,無拘無束,祗饒明日無飯喫,今日亦不憂。忽拄J39nB445_p0356a30杖子不平道:『長老恁麼說話,盡是脫空搜盡。一大藏J39nB445_p0356b01教,無此等誑語。既是明日無飯喫,今日安得不憂?』山J39nB445_p0356b02僧但向他道:『木上座明則明矣,實有未知。何故?不見J39nB445_p0356b03道:美食不中飽人餐。』」
示眾。問:「座有數千指,當機者J39nB445_p0356b04是誰?」師曰:「覿面薦取。」曰:「覿面交鋒即且止,草賊大敗J39nB445_p0356b05是如何?」師打曰:「和根掃盡。」曰:「棒頭撥開真龍眼,喝下J39nB445_p0356b06全施陷虎機。」師曰:「汝且班師回朝。」曰:「得勝還邦又作J39nB445_p0356b07麼生?」師曰:「屬目論英雄。」曰:「出群須是英靈漢,敵勝還J39nB445_p0356b08他獅子兒。」師曰:「誰是其人?」乃曰:「大凡做工夫,如捕賊J39nB445_p0356b09相似。欲捕真賊,先須辨賊情由。渠無依著,去住隨時;J39nB445_p0356b10渠無繫戀,出沒任意。迎之莫見其首,隨之莫見其尾,J39nB445_p0356b11出入無時,莫知其鄉。當面白拈,猶其餘事;舉家劫奪,J39nB445_p0356b12未是全威。於此辨得分明,向無捉摸處下番毒手,於J39nB445_p0356b13有端倪處大施縱擒。故高峰先師曰:『一不做,二不休,J39nB445_p0356b14殺人須究親下手,捉賊要拿真領頭。的的拿定領頭,J39nB445_p0356b15漸加馴伏,使彼熟處漸生、生處漸熟,與彼同住,動靜J39nB445_p0356b16無拘;與彼同行,無分先後。到此田地,方知大中無外,J39nB445_p0356b17賊是家親。雖然如是,猶未是放手時節。且道如何是J39nB445_p0356b18放手時節?直待金星現,歸家始到頭。』」
示眾。「菡萏愁J39nB445_p0356b19炎逼,芙渠恨熱忙,薰風自南來,殿閣生微涼。擬問如J39nB445_p0356b20何若何,箇中不用商量,會得秤錘是鐵,不會雪上加J39nB445_p0356b21霜。」
示眾。「近時道流類多務華少實,鮮見有真參實J39nB445_p0356b22悟者。何謂真參?如高峰廿年死關、長慶七破蒲團、神J39nB445_p0356b23光立雪斷臂者,便是箇真參的樣子。何謂實悟?如靈J39nB445_p0356b24雲見桃花、香巖聞擊竹、黃蘗聞舉吐舌者,便是箇實J39nB445_p0356b25悟的樣子。必如是,然後可以了生脫死、超佛越祖。諸J39nB445_p0356b26昆仲中有一箇半箇如古人者麼?此箇地位亦不必J39nB445_p0356b27向外馳求,直須向自己屋裡打點生死,人人本有,不J39nB445_p0356b28知生之來處是生之事重、不知死之去處是死之事J39nB445_p0356b29重。生死既重,則工夫不提自起,勤勤懇懇,時繼以日、J39nB445_p0356b30日繼以月、月繼以年,久久純熟,忽然冷灰豆爆,方知J39nB445_p0356c01井中原自有水、瓮裡何曾失鱉?天上天下惟我獨尊,J39nB445_p0356c02又何佛祖之足稱耶?若一向矜禪者之名、裝禪者之J39nB445_p0356c03體,逞舌辨為機鋒、憑意想為解會,千生百劫頭出頭J39nB445_p0356c04沒,無有了期,豈不大可怖畏?今一七雖終,結制方始,J39nB445_p0356c05各宜努力,勿恣怠緩。珍重。」
高峰老人三周,送牌位J39nB445_p0356c06入嘉禾天寧祖堂。「有佛處不得住,無佛處急走過。古J39nB445_p0356c07人恁麼道,老人恁麼舉,大似藏身處沒縱跡,沒縱跡J39nB445_p0356c08處莫藏身,正眼看來,難瞞識者。不肖性統今值滿服J39nB445_p0356c09之期,欲就老人本位指箇落處,貴圖永鎮千秋。且道:J39nB445_p0356c10如何是本位聻?」遂捧牌位至祖堂安位,曰:「有佛處切J39nB445_p0356c11須住,無佛處勿走過,鴛湖風月舊時輝,檇李露花香J39nB445_p0356c12正熟。咄!」
師至五祖,一僧於石上磨剃刀次,時有小J39nB445_p0356c13雀傍立。僧曰:「者雀得恁麼大膽?」師曰:「情知汝刀不利。」J39nB445_p0356c14僧舉刀作斫勢,雀便飛去。師曰:「果然不利。」僧曰:「何以J39nB445_p0356c15見得?」師曰:「若利即飛不去也。」
數僧自奉化來參,師J39nB445_p0356c16問曰:「我聞奉化八鄉,是否?」俱曰:「是。」師曰:「彌勒出在那J39nB445_p0356c17一鄉?」俱曰:「奉化鄉。」師曰:「奉化許汝等住,未識彌勒在。」J39nB445_p0356c18一僧曰:「某甲只知本鄉。」師曰:「那箇是你本鄉?」曰:「長壽J39nB445_p0356c19鄉。」師曰:「者不是本鄉。」眾罔措。
師臥次,笑旨侍者展J39nB445_p0356c20趙州相,請師閱。師曰:「那裡得者像來?」旨曰:「一人傳虛,J39nB445_p0356c21萬人傳實。」師曰:「也是依樣畫葫蘆。」復展西域文殊相,J39nB445_p0356c22師曰:「東土的聻?」旨曰:「見臥次。」師曰:「我不是文殊。」旨曰:J39nB445_p0356c23「今日塗污和尚。」師顧旁僧曰:「放下帳子著。」
僧問:「如J39nB445_p0356c24何是戒?」師曰:「披枷帶鎖。」「如何是定?」師曰:「寒巖枯木。」「如J39nB445_p0356c25何是慧?」師曰:「髑髏眼睛。」
問:「雲門要一棒打殺世尊,J39nB445_p0356c26畢竟過在甚麼處?」師曰:「理無曲斷。」
士問:「如何是奪J39nB445_p0356c27人不奪境?」師曰:「森羅與萬象。」「如何是奪境不奪人?」師J39nB445_p0356c28曰:「兩眼對兩眼。」「如何是人境兩俱奪?」師曰:「落花滿地J39nB445_p0356c29無人掃。」「如何是人境俱不奪?」師曰:「千紅萬紫任君看。」
J39nB445_p0356c30問:「萬法歸一,一歸何處?」師曰:「常憶江南三月裡,鷓J39nB445_p0357a01鴣啼處百花香。」
總戎袁寶善性煒居士,諱桂,字蓮宇。首參慶忠,得法J39nB445_p0357a03高峰,著有頌古行世。自敘入道行由,其略曰:「余忠州J39nB445_p0357a04人也,世居石寶。少時曾入公門,甲申兵變後,於隆武J39nB445_p0357a05二年內奉督師閣部王給劄團練,禦守彈丸,歷受國J39nB445_p0357a06典,見任總兵,理屯田鹽務。壬辰春,慶忠鐵老人移錫J39nB445_p0357a07石寶,余見德容不凡,婉留供養。老人每以機語指示,J39nB445_p0357a08余酷酒沉迷,全不知醒。是歲佛誕日,老人誡曰:『居士J39nB445_p0357a09有地方之責,還須節飲,庶保無虞。』余愧悔無地,回衙J39nB445_p0357a10即呈偈曰:『酒是人間祿,無貪無不足,打穿麴孽缸,更J39nB445_p0357a11斷輪迴肉。』老人甚喜,為余取名燈煒,號寶善;室人名J39nB445_p0357a12燈智,號朴素。闔家持齋,教余參無字話頭。初覺有味,J39nB445_p0357a13久之毫無影響,不覺冤家路窄,遇著三山本師出江J39nB445_p0357a14省候老人,余書一偈令人呈覽,師一筆塗卻,余躬禮J39nB445_p0357a15師,師曰:『是甚麼?』余無對,師打余一掌,余啞口含冤。後J39nB445_p0357a16請師開法崇聖,余皈依座下,執弟子禮,一面理公,一J39nB445_p0357a17面參究。本師令余頌青州公案,頌曰:『著起青州衫,家J39nB445_p0357a18家去拜年,承待厚與薄,止得盡情言。』師曰:『且信一半。』J39nB445_p0357a19時癸巳新正事也。一日,本師上堂,余問:『如何是尊貴J39nB445_p0357a20一句?』師曰:『九重深密處。』余曰:『恁麼則彩鳳呈祥後,君J39nB445_p0357a21王鎮帝都。』師曰:『道甚麼?』余禮拜而退。如此問答,機緣J39nB445_p0357a22不可盡舉。癸巳秋,本師置一問:『若人識得心,大地無J39nB445_p0357a23寸土。既是無寸土,向何處安身立命?』余頌答不恰,被J39nB445_p0357a24師痛罵一番,余乃盡情放下,晝夜苦參。不踰月,一夕,J39nB445_p0357a25聞桶蓋墜地,忽然擊破疑關,隨說偈曰:『本來無一物,J39nB445_p0357a26作巧弄工夫,撲地翻筋斗,毒藥是醍醐。』從此鼻孔通J39nB445_p0357a27快,出入自由,每與本師唱和,馬嘴不對驢頭。師喜曰:J39nB445_p0357a28『居士異日解綬著緇,當為吾宗嫡嗣。』以偈囑余:『火裡J39nB445_p0357a29蓮華迥異常,一枝特出露新粧,他年馥郁人天眾,鼻J39nB445_p0357a30孔傳來滿地香。』余白曰:『師恩難報,某甲更名性煒。』師J39nB445_p0357b01曰:『且待著。』自愧業纏不了,有負大慈,豈料吾師太毒,J39nB445_p0357b02命余將平日著頌公案六十則刊行。余思:出家喫飯J39nB445_p0357b03穿衣,在家穿衣喫飯,都是本分為人,一場打鬨何幹?J39nB445_p0357b04只這些閒言剩語,傳得也好,不傳也好,設有箇旁不J39nB445_p0357b05肯底出來道:『而皮厚多少?』余不免呵呵大笑曰:『寶善J39nB445_p0357b06今朝失利。』」
舉世尊陞座因緣,頌曰:「短棹驚飛水上J39nB445_p0357b07鷗,兩行空自沒來由。春江不盡風流意,半似贏乖半J39nB445_p0357b08似羞。」
舉魯祖面壁因緣,頌曰:「赤尾龍門逐浪過,漁J39nB445_p0357b09翁捲釣意如何?直鉤不似尋常餌,惟聽金鱗躍碧波。」
J39nB445_p0357b10舉藥山問石頭:「聞南方有直指人心,見性成佛之J39nB445_p0357b11旨,未審是否?」頭云:「恁麼也不得,不恁麼也不得,恁麼J39nB445_p0357b12不恁麼總不得。」話,頌曰:「當初無計入紅樓,入得紅樓J39nB445_p0357b13休便休,不如當初不相識,也無煩惱也無愁。」
舉世J39nB445_p0357b14尊拈花因緣,頌曰:「登壇點將為蒼生,細柳營開按轡J39nB445_p0357b15行。閫外不知天子詔,至今猶重亞將軍。」
舉雲門東J39nB445_p0357b16山水上行話,頌曰:「嶺頭紅杏一枝開,鬥雪迎風香滿J39nB445_p0357b17腮。自是春英藏不住,從教蜂蝶傍牆來。」
舉乾峰上J39nB445_p0357b18堂舉一不得舉二話,頌曰:「夜繡烏雞彩色奇,暗中一J39nB445_p0357b19線少人知。平空操出無絃韻,流水高山別賦詩。」
刺史沈克齋赤肩性宗居士,諱廷勱,字子相,秀水人,J39nB445_p0357b21世科甲。公少時,咿唔雞窗,便慕宗乘,歷叩名宿,各有J39nB445_p0357b22機契。及宦遊西蜀新寧,民淳事減,益得究心。是時,高J39nB445_p0357b23峰應向化侯請,來主曇華,密邇於新,公謁焉。言下領J39nB445_p0357b24旨,迎峰至新居三月,日蒙扣擊,徹法源底,峰為印可。J39nB445_p0357b25未幾,峰入浙,新邑奉例裁併,公得侍行。旋嘉禾,通於J39nB445_p0357b26郡之同人曹秋嶽、王邁人、朱茂時輩,以天寧迎峰,卓J39nB445_p0357b27錫二載,法行江浙。送聚雲三世語錄附楞嚴藏,皆公J39nB445_p0357b28贊成之力也。康熙庚戌,峰回蜀,公後補欒城,牧商州,J39nB445_p0357b29予告還里,歷十有六年,峰順世矣,遺命屬公作銘。峰J39nB445_p0357b30闡化四十餘年,縉紳問道者何限?不遠數千里,獨以J39nB445_p0357c01後事委公,其隆重為何如?良由公進道之篤,師資契J39nB445_p0357c02合有深焉者。嘗自著參學緣起,其略曰:「予少時潦倒J39nB445_p0357c03帖括中,徵逐聲氣,本來一著子當面錯過。稍壯,喜習J39nB445_p0357c04功過格,偶閱陽明先生《傳習錄》,好之,尤愛象山、慈湖、J39nB445_p0357c05明道、白沙、心齋、龍溪語,以為自濂溪以來,聖學真傳J39nB445_p0357c06在是。四十外,閱趙州大慧錄,雖未盡領會,然不忍釋J39nB445_p0357c07手,賴友人孔皜菴時時勸進此道。孔茂弘者,皜菴第J39nB445_p0357c08三子也,偶閱睡中主公案,疑情頓發,力參半月,即大J39nB445_p0357c09悟。予與皜菴疑之,俾通所見於靈隱具和尚,具為印J39nB445_p0357c10可,余乃驚異,始諦信焉,由是始參柏樹子話。壬寅秋,J39nB445_p0357c11先兄郡丞鏡湄公捐館,予悲不自解,乃從嚴扆臣借J39nB445_p0357c12《傳燈錄》朝夕覽閱,藉以忘懷。偶謁介菴於金明,方食J39nB445_p0357c13枇杷,菴問:『是甚麼?』予曰:『枇杷。』菴厲聲曰:『入地獄如箭J39nB445_p0357c14射。』又謁古雲於天寧,雲曰:『居士手中是甚麼?』予曰:『扇J39nB445_p0357c15子。』雲曰:『請用扇。』予用扇,雲呵呵大笑。今思二老皆直J39nB445_p0357c16▆提持,奈當時不唧溜何?癸卯二月,幼子殤,意緒不J39nB445_p0357c17▆,乃力參柏樹子以自遣,參至一念不萌者逾時,適J39nB445_p0357c18▆人來問話,聞聲若雷,心為震動,以問茂弘,茂弘曰:J39nB445_p0357c19『此是參得專一處,正是好消息。勉旃!』是歲四月入都,J39nB445_p0357c20明年甲辰,選授蜀東之新寧,以道遠親老,中心皇然,J39nB445_p0357c21偕嚴覽民訪佛果於都門,亦蒙策勵,未領也。自京南J39nB445_p0357c22歸,將理西楫,姻友陳玉仍過訪,予邀嚴𨍏轢、施繹修J39nB445_p0357c23兩先生並徐敬可、孔茂弘共茶話,是日頗多法戰,余J39nB445_p0357c24但屏息而已。比西行,與茂弘別,因曰:『僕於此事切矣!J39nB445_p0357c25茲遠適荒蜀,聞彼中無事,或可了僕素願,子何以教J39nB445_p0357c26我?』弘曰:『當作一方便,然非工夫到極處,切不可開。』余J39nB445_p0357c27唯唯,因授予方寸小封,外書露字,後書訂封處,云:『疑J39nB445_p0357c28極而開。』余珍重告別,長江萬里,舉目清曠,心心不釋。J39nB445_p0357c29自初秋起行,至仲冬抵任,無民無役,二三僮僕苦之,J39nB445_p0357c30先後謝去,予反幸其山川窅寂,意豁如也。乙巳四月,J39nB445_p0358a01謁破山和尚於高梁,山贈偈云:『八千里外故人淚,三J39nB445_p0358a02十年來窮子心,今日相逢真奇遘,三生石上舊知音。』J39nB445_p0358a03時夔郡守邢公邀山於行署,予陪侍次,山以手作開J39nB445_p0358a04合勢云:『這是拳頭,這是巴掌,總是一箇不可偏廢的J39nB445_p0358a05道理。』丙午,復謁山於雙桂,山指壁畫車牛圖問曰:『會J39nB445_p0358a06麼?』予曰:『不會。』山云:『若但打牛亦未是。』余稍有省。比明,J39nB445_p0358a07復請開示,山云:『識法者懼。』余領之,別後兩月而山順J39nB445_p0358a08世矣。新邑聽雪、牛目兩禪師,破山之後也,見地脫灑,J39nB445_p0358a09予雅重之,與往還酬對甚多。是冬,予往兼視開篆,開J39nB445_p0358a10有盛山、西瞿兩禪宿,而盛師稍近,時蒙策勵甚切,不J39nB445_p0358a11存形跡,每貽尺牘,道誼凜然。予間請開示柏樹子話,J39nB445_p0358a12盛云:『此時不難為公道破,恐向後公則罵僧去也。』丁J39nB445_p0358a13未四月,謝篆歸新,心益清豁,每日危坐蒲團,炷香自J39nB445_p0358a14限,至疑極處,忽憶茂弘小封許我疑極而開,今既疑J39nB445_p0358a15極,可以開矣。比拆視,不意內復加封,又書云:『非有七J39nB445_p0358a16晝夜不間斷工夫,切不可開。』予只得仍置匣中,重新J39nB445_p0358a17再參,刻意欲得七晝夜打成一片,方敢開封,其如要J39nB445_p0358a18七晝夜工夫無間,再不可得。此封亦遂不敢開,但力J39nB445_p0358a19參如故。五月中,接家信,知家嚴一目不明,欲覓空青J39nB445_p0358a20醫治,予遍訪無有,不可奈何,忽念《藥師經》可以祈年J39nB445_p0358a21明目,乃虔請入署,合衙持齋,予跪誦於佛前,一心祈J39nB445_p0358a22禱,務期誦時不起一念,誦畢一卷,氣乏少停,又恐心J39nB445_p0358a23神外馳,即危坐單參萬法歸一,一歸何處,停參即誦,J39nB445_p0358a24停誦即參,覺夢寐中皆參皆誦。七月,自朔至望,經完J39nB445_p0358a25余竟,如彈指頃,覺所參萬法歸一,一歸何處,宛爾現J39nB445_p0358a26前。偶記吹萬大師錄中曾有此拈示,試取問證,遂有J39nB445_p0358a27省發。十月,以公務往府,道經磐城,遂謁三山和尚於J39nB445_p0358a28曇華,予請開示,師問:『公本參何話?』予曰:『庭前柏樹子。』J39nB445_p0358a29師云:『作麼生會?』予云:『也只是目擊道存。』師云:『畢竟如J39nB445_p0358a30何是庭前柏樹子?速道,速道。』余擬對,師云:『不是,不是。』J39nB445_p0358b01予不覺面赤,良久,師正色云:『是誰▆公來參的?』予曰:J39nB445_p0358b02『某心中也自明白,忽被和尚這劄,直得無言可對,無J39nB445_p0358b03理可伸。』師云:『公亦做有工夫,只是未在。曾見船子夾J39nB445_p0358b04山公案麼?』予曰:『見。』師云:『試舉看。』予舉至夾山辭行回J39nB445_p0358b05顧處,師驀豎掌云:『將謂別有耶?』予不覺高聲應曰:『更J39nB445_p0358b06無別有了。』師云:『是甚麼?』予大笑曰:『和尚何須恁麼問?』J39nB445_p0358b07師云:『且喜居士承當得也。』予便禮拜,維時頓覺拈花、J39nB445_p0358b08豎指、吹毛、輥毬等案一一透去,不覺忻喜踴躍,予乃J39nB445_p0358b09謂師曰:『將謂有多少奇特,原來只恁麼。』師云:『莫錯會J39nB445_p0358b10好,此後正好喫老僧痛棒,未肯放過居士在。』予曰:『弟J39nB445_p0358b11子亦未肯放過和尚在,第山遙道棘,師能一過我乎?』J39nB445_p0358b12師云:『諾。』遂別歸,亟取孔茂弘密封啟視之,內但書『合J39nB445_p0358b13掌當胸,良久,兩手開合數次,急著眼覷』十六字而已。J39nB445_p0358b14予閱之,呵呵大笑。要知此事有遮有表,若非盛師、茂J39nB445_p0358b15弘秘不通風,則工夫何以著力?若非曇華痛加敲擊,J39nB445_p0358b16則箭鋒何以發機?三人皆成我也。既而通所見于盛J39nB445_p0358b17師,盛云:『喜公已打得圓相了也,何不並圓相抹卻?』予J39nB445_p0358b18思此語與三師臨別正好喫棒之語相符,於是專看J39nB445_p0358b19吹毛用了急須磨及青州布衫句,至忘寢食,比至陰J39nB445_p0358b20夕,忽然徹悟。戊申正月二十六夜戌時,有白氣從西J39nB445_p0358b21南起,上貫天,適聽雪師來縣,予作白毫光偈示之,有J39nB445_p0358b22『不信大家舉首看,何人不見白毫光』之句,聽師欣喜J39nB445_p0358b23印可。明春,雪師以源流見囑,予思從上居士授法於J39nB445_p0358b24人者少,則亦何可輕受法於人?且予半生多從先儒J39nB445_p0358b25語錄中著力,年春印心於曇華,益與吾道相發明,茲J39nB445_p0358b26不過欲作一脫灑書生,但知此事便休耳。因謝以偈J39nB445_p0358b27云:『家師自有尼山在,呼唯明明只此傳。』以見意云。是J39nB445_p0358b28月終,三山和尚抵縣,一見即喜曰:『居士不局於一橛J39nB445_p0358b29禪矣。』遂問予:『如何是萬法歸一?』予卓然立。又問:『一歸J39nB445_p0358b30何處?』予展兩手。又問:『青州布衫聻?』予將旁僧劈面一J39nB445_p0358c01掌云:『我從來疑著此語。』問:『如何是親切句?』予曰:『學人J39nB445_p0358c02是沈二。』『如何是轉身句?』予曰:『茶碗好盛粥。』『如何是異J39nB445_p0358c03類句?』予曰:『盞子落地碟子破。』『如何是末後句?』予曰:『咄!J39nB445_p0358c04咄!咄!鳥語風聲無不足。』一日,招師齋,沙彌冷眼以疾J39nB445_p0358c05辭,余問彌云:『馬祖日面月面作麼生?』彌便掌,余云:『汝J39nB445_p0358c06這掌作麼生?』彌喚旁僧字云:『玉眉。』予便別打旁僧,師J39nB445_p0358c07大笑。又一日,同冷眼侍師閒立次,適見貓逐雞,雞飛J39nB445_p0358c08入草,予曰:『俊哉!』師隨取一片磚置地,問予曰:『是甚麼?』J39nB445_p0358c09予便作雞鳴聲,予顧冷眼云:『雞在這裡,貓在甚麼處?』J39nB445_p0358c10眼便作捉雞勢,師笑云:『這話猶未圓在。』于進前曰:『還J39nB445_p0358c11許學人圓得否?』師云:『許。』予便將磚一腳踢去,師乃印J39nB445_p0358c12可,遂舉五家宗旨勘余,余一一默證,因欲授余以源J39nB445_p0358c13流,予思:『風塵俗吏,此生作了事俗漢足矣。』遂固辭,因J39nB445_p0358c14舉聽師所付因緣,遂還前偈具白於師,師亦弗強。既J39nB445_p0358c15而自惟:『予投機實在於師,且師不憚千里跋涉為法J39nB445_p0358c16求人,予又安敢不原所悟以負師慈德哉?』乃敬受之。J39nB445_p0358c17師留新一月,始旋曇華,予送至中途,師切囑曰:見『道J39nB445_p0358c18非難,實證為難,居士珍重保任可也。』予拜別歸治,一J39nB445_p0358c19味落落閒閒,更無些子礙膺之物,雖出政蒞民之間,J39nB445_p0358c20喜便笑、怒便嗔,案牘有露柱拱手呈來、閒人被庭石J39nB445_p0358c21吆呼趁去,色色信其本來,只成無心道人,而新邑遂J39nB445_p0358c22已大治云云。」
上鐵壁老和尚五家宗旨歌曰:「五家J39nB445_p0358c23宗旨如五指,散為大悲千手臂。一一手具五嶽形,一J39nB445_p0358c24一嶽中生萬卉。一一卉萌千百枝,是吾五指難思議。J39nB445_p0358c25高人握來一掌中,五指還如一指同。諦觀此指指亦J39nB445_p0358c26無,方是吾宗正脈通。粗禪棄之成鹵莽,口耳泥之成J39nB445_p0358c27誕誑。二俱可憐孰拯之,只今惟有鐵和尚。雙徑源流J39nB445_p0358c28賴此傳,眼如日月明百川。日月眼,萬古懸,歌以似之J39nB445_p0358c29告法筵。」
敏樹和尚開法慈雲,公夙欽其名德,特往J39nB445_p0358c30見之,公問:「智不到處切忌道著,道著則頭角生,如何?」J39nB445_p0359a01▆云:「恭賀恭賀。」公云:「弟子頭角生也。」敏云:「一任行雲J39nB445_p0359a02布雨。」殿中點燈次,公謂眾僧曰:「前半間不得道明,後J39nB445_p0359a03半間不得道暗,速道速道。」眾無對,共白於敏,敏云:「一J39nB445_p0359a04箭射更關。」公問:「格物即不問,如何是物格?」敏云:「頂門J39nB445_p0359a05須具眼,別有好商量。」敏隨問公云:「公試道看。」公云:「欲J39nB445_p0359a06窮千里目,更上一層樓。」敏微笑。敏問公云:「格物是?物J39nB445_p0359a07格是?」公云:「六六元來三十六。」敏將飯喂貓次,公陡問:J39nB445_p0359a08「南泉斬貓,和尚因甚喂貓?」敏云:「雲月雖同,溪山各異。」J39nB445_p0359a09公曰:「能殺能活。」
嘗語諸方曰:「新寧縣前有箇石獅J39nB445_p0359a10子,有時喚月嘶風,有時東輥西操,但不得將他動著,J39nB445_p0359a11動著即被他一口咬殺。」
問:「如何是新寧境?」公曰:「無J39nB445_p0359a12底籃盛山菌子,沒絃琴操萬年松。」「如何是境中人?」公J39nB445_p0359a13曰:「退食每餐無米飯,見賓恰會不來人。」問:「日用如何J39nB445_p0359a14著力?」公曰:「牽象藕絲元不斷,浙溪逆溯上瞿塘。」問:「如J39nB445_p0359a15何得勘破一切?」公曰:「莫將絲繫風。」
公治新五年,戶J39nB445_p0359a16增數倍,邑無穿窬,道不拾遺。己酉正月,奉例裁併於J39nB445_p0359a17梁山,新民因挽公不得,乃畢送公至萬縣,已距新七J39nB445_p0359a18程矣。公遂賦歸偈四首:「五載誰為副此機?青山留我J39nB445_p0359a19伴寒暉。幸沾封典恩何渥?得遂趨庭志不違。拄杖著J39nB445_p0359a20靴穿水去,蒲團裝月帶涼歸。年來人事如彈指,贏得J39nB445_p0359a21心空好拂衣。勤民出政知誰力?了了隨緣不借中。戒J39nB445_p0359a22石吼庭吞皜月,蒲鞭拍掌笑春風。神珠輝處頭頭露,J39nB445_p0359a23寶劍揮來面面通。會得威音消息迥,山流水住耳看J39nB445_p0359a24松。水到渠成祗善為,遊行掉臂任吾之。焚香坐久我J39nB445_p0359a25忘我,退食公餘誰是誰?畢竟暖風吹到冷,從教綠髮J39nB445_p0359a26變成絲。來來去去非來去,道破人情有子規。鞭起須J39nB445_p0359a27彌駕起船,就中著便下東川。野橋流出鐘聲遠,古渡J39nB445_p0359a28撐開月影圓。逐浪隨波今日句,呈橈舞棹未生前。折J39nB445_p0359a29腰且自隨緣去,落落閒閒不記年。」時西瞿和尚在萬,J39nB445_p0359a30公呈前偈,瞿答偈云:「過量人來法法通,如水波上湧J39nB445_p0359b01千重。水枯川竭長流處,依舊青山綠水中。」公又答云:J39nB445_p0359b02「箇中無法亦無通,何處如波湧幾重?倒嶽傾湫波浪J39nB445_p0359b03闊,何曾一滴滯胸中?平日留心山水間,山山水水得J39nB445_p0359b04人閒。自從吸盡西江後,山是水兮水是山。」
太守朱葵石茂時性悟居士,禾之秀水人,宰輔文恪J39nB445_p0359b06公之後也。以貴胄膺天眷,歷宦有年,垂老致仕,游心J39nB445_p0359b07放鶴洲,日延名宿問道,親炙雪嶠信、費隱容甚久。康J39nB445_p0359b08熙己酉,高峰南下,公謁於天寧,峰示以柏樹子話,力J39nB445_p0359b09參至忘寢食。一日有省,呈解於峰曰:「別處妥一件,只J39nB445_p0359b10是一件;這裡會得一處妥,處處妥。」又云:「看得本來面J39nB445_p0359b11目分明,原無貴無賤、無貧無富、無喜無怒、無死無生。」J39nB445_p0359b12峰曰:「只此數語,居士可謂見到說到矣。但時時保任、J39nB445_p0359b13念念操存,直做到大休歇底田地,得大自在、得大受J39nB445_p0359b14用,施為運轉、出沒卷舒,任性而流,無可不可,連這保J39nB445_p0359b15任操存四字一並忘卻,更有甚麼參差錯謬、關礙生J39nB445_p0359b16死而不一了百當?」公禮拜而退。從此工夫日密,親朋J39nB445_p0359b17來往不及塵世一語,沈公赤肩是其道中友也。峰還J39nB445_p0359b18蜀,公會眾拜送,舟中呈冊索偈,峰書數千言付之,時J39nB445_p0359b19年已八十有二矣。
文學李青眉性端居士,墊江人。父與高峰髫年同肄J39nB445_p0359b21業,公以世誼謁峰於崇聖,值峰為眾入室,公滿心伎J39nB445_p0359b22癢,乃移橙子於旁,禮拜乞示話頭,峰問:「居士移者何J39nB445_p0359b23物?」公曰:「橙子。」峰曰:「好箇話頭。」於是行住坐臥只箇橙J39nB445_p0359b24子放不下。適慶忠老人至,公禮見,坐談永夜,炳燭歸J39nB445_p0359b25寮,忠謂公曰:「居士遇燭滅時,話頭亦可行路。」公於此J39nB445_p0359b26有省。衡山炳禪師聞公穎悟,一日過崇聖,問公曰:「話J39nB445_p0359b27頭聻?」公豎一指,山曰:「既是橙子,因甚又上指頭去?」公J39nB445_p0359b28曰:「無水不行船。」山顧峰微笑。侍峰遷五雲,受印後作J39nB445_p0359b29偈達山曰:「五葉橫江已太孤,嵩山九載復何圖?誰知J39nB445_p0359b30滿地含冤恨,為問胡公念也無?我亦曾經付囑來,隨J39nB445_p0359c01渠同看荻花開,兒童便作風塵色,故把雙峰腦後栽。J39nB445_p0359c02何期賺入浯江下,江上乘風跨駿馬,崇聖場頭快著J39nB445_p0359c03鞭,師並吾師冷笑也。橙子拈來作話頭,臨機豎指沒J39nB445_p0359c04來由,師因詢我指頭意,我道船借水中流。吾師十載J39nB445_p0359c05拈黃葉,我作兒啼不肯歇,拾得黃金一笑休,從教出J39nB445_p0359c06篋飛成蝶。其奈吾師狼毒何?佯顛唱作釣魚歌,五雲J39nB445_p0359c07院裡輕相囑,教我乘槎泛碧波。因憶當年師二老,何J39nB445_p0359c08須舌上生青草?推敲橙子一聯詩,直至而今無可道。J39nB445_p0359c09偶入曹溪理舊遊,西風拂面又新秋,芒鞋吹到福城J39nB445_p0359c10裡,重禮猊臺玩樂丘。山自青兮水自綠,師顏如金語J39nB445_p0359c11如玉,追隨略領早暮間,一聽高山流水曲。」
次韻送J39nB445_p0359c12童真禪師南行。「傷哉象末世,祖道鮮弘人。誰是主中J39nB445_p0359c13主,多為賓裡賓。知君存大義,令我羨能仁。但得南遊J39nB445_p0359c14去,重敷上苑春。」
文學張雙承性愨居士,忠州人,業儒,尚道學。族近高J39nB445_p0359c16峰,朝夕叩見,峰數加鉗錘,公志愈堅。一日,呈解於峰,J39nB445_p0359c17聲未絕,峰遽問曰:「如何是佛?」答曰:「草蒲團。」
舉:「僧問J39nB445_p0359c18高峰:『六道眾生還具佛性也無?』峰云:『嗄!』」拈曰:「塞滿虛J39nB445_p0359c19空,克遍法界,本自尋常,阿誰無分?雖然如是,還知高J39nB445_p0359c20峰老漢答處麼?科頭箕踞長松下,白眼看他世上人。」J39nB445_p0359c21復頌曰:「眾生六道幾何般?換面改頭總亦然。六月日J39nB445_p0359c22頭到處熱,三冬霜雪普天寒。」
舉:「僧問高峰:『如何是J39nB445_p0359c23為人一句?』峰便打。僧云:『恁麼則辜負某甲也。』峰云:『山J39nB445_p0359c24僧今日失利。』」拈曰:「為憐三歲子,不惜兩莖眉,檢點將J39nB445_p0359c25來,可恨阿僧當面蹉過。」復頌曰:「為人一句,猶如屎屁,J39nB445_p0359c26驀頭打也,全無遮避。承恩容易報恩難,千古萬古空J39nB445_p0359c27相憶。」
