J26nB181_p0406a05於乎哀哉!兄竟蒙賊難而死乎!初兄在天童聞楚寇,J26nB181_p0406a06虞黃檗老人之塔不寧也,歸護之,弟臨岐握手勉兄J26nB181_p0406a07以再,兄曰:「道人家風,一刀兩段。」固心知非兆,而不虞J26nB181_p0406a08如此也。
去冬弟歸省,獲晤令兄玄澤於廣陵,時淮楚J26nB181_p0406a09交警,而訊兄無秏,弟時遂忡忡若負重憂於躬者,因J26nB181_p0406a10約明春迎兄來東隱,亦慮兄或有不虞如此也。逮抵J26nB181_p0406a11章江,果聞有七月之變,於時霜飛艸死,凍雲欲雪,弟J26nB181_p0406a12且冥冥若處大夜中,不辨昏曉矣!亟命篙師發南昌,J26nB181_p0406a13遂不克設位告兄而去。今春三月再渡章江,以兄後J26nB181_p0406a14事之故,趨問玄澤,玄澤告弟曰:「去歲光黃無寇,寇且J26nB181_p0406a15不至黃檗,七月之事,直公殆隱乎,其權以辭禒也。」弟J26nB181_p0406a16則心語曰:「若所云者,亦否亦然!」蓋兄固語弟:「我無福J26nB181_p0406a17於躬;無德於朝廷,特以國家天潢之故,坐享百里侯J26nB181_p0406a18封之奉,如生民膏血何?今吾既出家,而屢辭屢受,余J26nB181_p0406a19罪也。」夫此固玄澤之所以有此說也。然弟實知兄死J26nB181_p0406a20矣!則又不設位告兄而行者何也?亦於百分千分億J26nB181_p0406a21千萬分中存此莫須有之一念,而稍寬假焉耳!
頃四J26nB181_p0406a22月十日濟生來,言兄被難事甚悉,則兄竟死矣!不可J26nB181_p0406a23贖矣!縱弟百其身亦無可奈何矣!處今之計,祇有設J26nB181_p0406a24兄之位,告兄之靈而已。於乎哀哉!乃至欲如向者之J26nB181_p0406a25猶猶耳!望倖於一日一時斯須半刻,且不可得,又安J26nB181_p0406a26望兄貿貿然來語於斯、笑於斯,陳古訓以規誨弟於J26nB181_p0406a27斯邪?
故自聞兄訃以來,迄於今動止靡寧,蓋不啻日J26nB181_p0406a28腸迴九矣!真如千車之輓我思焉;斗血之哽我咽焉!J26nB181_p0406a29不及今引紙長書,臨文大號,將必有鬱結之疾、膈中J26nB181_p0406a30痞滿之症,況兄去弟而死,又將百二十有餘日?今縱J26nB181_p0406b01不能登穴呼些,以招徠兄魂;又不能吐一詞焉,位以J26nB181_p0406b02告之,此在氾氾者義不敢出,矧弟與兄曠世之交哉?J26nB181_p0406b03故由前以論,則神思芒昧不告可也;由後以論,則憿J26nB181_p0406b04幸圖存或幾希於萬一,不遂告焉亦可也。不幸而至J26nB181_p0406b05於今,既思窮望絕之如彼,又情無所將義無可逭之J26nB181_p0406b06如此,則斷斷乎其宜告矣!而猶然不告者何也?將謂J26nB181_p0406b07弟不知兄邪?而他人無弟之知兄者;謂弟不能言兄J26nB181_p0406b08邪?而他人無弟之能言兄者,蓋能言則必知;知故能J26nB181_p0406b09言也。
夫弟之知兄,非今日始矣!蓋自辛酉交臂於黃J26nB181_p0406b10檗,兄時以王孫之重幽身叢席,方遂薙染,則群言交J26nB181_p0406b11煽,彼碩大如某某者猶畏讋不前,弟獨以眇眇之躬,J26nB181_p0406b12死生荷負卒成兄志,抑弟豈為分榮帝子,俾兄有德J26nB181_p0406b13於我哉?蓋知兄法器,不謬為空王弟子耳!因與兄著J26nB181_p0406b14槽廠者且三年。後弟參天童,兄亦再參天童。雖吳山J26nB181_p0406b15楚水,不無屢間星霜,而彼此皎然,寸絲靡隔,故凡兄J26nB181_p0406b16存之于心、發之于言、見之于行事,以至威儀動靜之J26nB181_p0406b17微、瞚目揚眉之故,使弟為兄寫炤,操狀識以臨兄,端J26nB181_p0406b18如優孟之于孫叔敖,衣冠扺掌無不宛肖,祇有人疑J26nB181_p0406b19其生而不疑其死者,非夸兄以譽己也,蓋習兄之深J26nB181_p0406b20實有如此知兄者也。
然則今又何其宜告而不告也?J26nB181_p0406b21於乎哀哉!弟于此極難矣!較兄之終焉無可奈何者J26nB181_p0406b22尤無可奈何矣!抑此無可奈何之故豈易言哉?將舉J26nB181_p0406b23世有莫知其故者,亦惟兄上下左右之靈鑒之臨之,J26nB181_p0406b24默而知其故焉耳!
夫兄既知其故矣!則弟不言其故J26nB181_p0406b25可也,然兄知而世不知,將謂弟于兄遂如此爾爾也,J26nB181_p0406b26則又不得不言其故。言其故,弟知兄大不說也。夫告J26nB181_p0406b27者必有詞,無詞以告焉不可也。抑弟豈無詞哉?有詞J26nB181_p0406b28於此,必求當于兄之心;求當于兄之心,則有詞而無J26nB181_p0406b29詞矣!何也?使今弟徒以交情繾綣,含悲忍楚,哽於喑J26nB181_p0406b30咽于兄之前?非但兄不屑聽,弟亦斷不出此矣!則必J26nB181_p0406c01舉兄生平行業,從事乎師友者若何?深造乎大道者J26nB181_p0406c02又若何?以至誠以遇物,恭以處己,濯人以德,飲人以J26nB181_p0406c03和,木偶聲色之場;蟬蛻利名之域,大閑不踰,小德尤J26nB181_p0406c04敦,乃今發最後之光明,經旬暑而貌顏如生、歷三刀J26nB181_p0406c05而瘢痕無血,變渠魁之色、傷同道之心,庶幾師子之J26nB181_p0406c06風、鄴都之轍哉!抑所謂求全象于既隱、得馬體于一J26nB181_p0406c07豪者,不云無之,然弟知兄亦不受也。蓋兄道光用晦、J26nB181_p0406c08德厚用藏,一于聖人遯世不見知,故證矣!以為無所J26nB181_p0406c09得,博矣!以為蹄涔之莫窺,識達矣!而恫恫焉若顓愚J26nB181_p0406c10之無知,言可法、行可則矣!而惴惴焉若無一節之足J26nB181_p0406c11錄乎人!湘之南、潭之北,顒顒焉向風矣!而甘自陊于J26nB181_p0406c12鄙埜固陋,豢養童禿之倫,俾無得以名貌焉!兄宜何J26nB181_p0406c13如為心?弟乃舉向所謂塵垢秕糠者,陳芹設藻,胡跽J26nB181_p0406c14合掌,唔唔焉對位而讀,則何異韶而鳴缶鈞天,而於J26nB181_p0406c15於夏而裘冬而葛,圜而逗以方者也?抑兄掩耳返走J26nB181_p0406c16之不暇,其誰為聽之哉?更若援莊生之說、釋部之譚,J26nB181_p0406c17死生夢幻,祈解勉夫兄,則又所謂藞苴為虛空安耳J26nB181_p0406c18穴者矣!故弟至今窮思竭慮,卒求一詞焉以報兄無J26nB181_p0406c19有也。是以告焉不得、不告焉又不得,真于無可奈何J26nB181_p0406c20中又無可奈何焉者!然則弟將奈何哉?亦終于無可J26nB181_p0406c21奈何已矣!於乎哀哉!
告寂音尊者文
J26nB181_p0406c23康熙癸卯年月日,天童晚學道忞謹以潦水谿毛之J26nB181_p0406c24供,致祭于圓明寶覺洪公禪師之靈,而言曰:
維師生J26nB181_p0406c25知夙稟,慧性天成。書經目而終身不忘;思無停而萬J26nB181_p0406c26言立就。早參明宿,悟真淨之高禪;晚閱傳燈,契汾陽J26nB181_p0406c27之妙旨。頂王證真三昧;文字得大總持。蓋自有禪宗J26nB181_p0406c28以來,博通經論,學富天人,雖代不乏賢,然未有如師J26nB181_p0406c29之出秦入漢、左蘇右黃,風雷駐其舌、錦繡纏其腸者J26nB181_p0406c30也。所以著為文字之禪、林間之錄、僧寶智證之傳,言J26nB181_p0407a01言顯佛祖真詮、字字開古人生面,使天下後世之緇J26nB181_p0407a02流,凡有志于斯道者,莫不大賢識其大者,以發明心J26nB181_p0407a03地;小賢識其小者,以資益見聞。此師之時時教育我J26nB181_p0407a04儕而為百世之師,我儕亦朝夕承師提命而為終身J26nB181_p0407a05模範者也。
然由宋至今五百年,未有自謂因師悟入J26nB181_p0407a06而附師門牆者,有之自靈嵒繼起始。夫繼起之師為J26nB181_p0407a07漢月藏公,實出先師悟和尚之門,先師以其馳騁知J26nB181_p0407a08解,恐流為荷澤神會之宗,間常移書規誨之。而藏公J26nB181_p0407a09遂謂印心于師,庶幾叛去先師,不妨于天童可以忤J26nB181_p0407a10言相牴耳!
前秋辛丑,繼起住金粟,金粟蓋先師道場J26nB181_p0407a11也,竟公然毀侮先師,糊抹先師名號,謂曾昭告吾師J26nB181_p0407a12業苾芬孝祀,倚師為得法之祖。以故不惟先師,并應J26nB181_p0407a13菴以下之諸祖,莫不輕訶妄詆為不知禪。果爾!則師J26nB181_p0407a14生平瀝肝雕腎發揮經論,所謂光輔祖宗者,非以利J26nB181_p0407a15後昆,實為逋逃藪矣!是豈吾師心哉?抑忞聞之師曰:J26nB181_p0407a16「古塔主去雲門之世,無慮百年而稱其嗣;青華嚴未J26nB181_p0407a17始識太陽,特以浮山遠公之語,故嗣之不疑。」二老皆J26nB181_p0407a18以傳言行之自若,其于己甚重、于法甚輕。古之人于J26nB181_p0407a19法重者永嘉、黃檗是也。永嘉因閱《維摩》,悟佛心宗,而J26nB181_p0407a20往見六祖曰:「吾欲定宗旨也。」黃檗悟馬祖之意而嗣J26nB181_p0407a21百丈,故百丈歎以為不及也。夫古塔主去雲門之世J26nB181_p0407a22眎師為甚近;青華嚴復有浮山為之證據,師且非之,J26nB181_p0407a23矧乎杳茫之世,胸臆之譚?何所據而援師?是謂自誣J26nB181_p0407a24而誣人,其為識亦卑且陋矣!奚悟師言之與有?
古今J26nB181_p0407a25悟入之途亦紛而非一。釋迦睹明星而悟,明星可為J26nB181_p0407a26釋迦之師乎?靈雲見碧桃;香嚴擊湘竹,角鳴雉堞,雞J26nB181_p0407a27上闌干,不因柳毅傳書信,一聲江上侍郎來,與盤山J26nB181_p0407a28之省發屠家、張無盡之觸翻溺器。昔人曾不以數者J26nB181_p0407a29廢師承,彼假悟師言,乃祖宗夫師,則是溺器夫師矣!J26nB181_p0407a30屠儈夫師矣!輿儓夫師矣!卑田夫師矣!雞角竹桃夫J26nB181_p0407b01師矣!其于己未必重;而于法不尤輕也邪?
昔者季氏J26nB181_p0407b02旅泰山,尼丘則曰:「曾謂泰山不如林放乎?」今靈嵒毀J26nB181_p0407b03祖而媚師,豈師顧不如泰山哉?蓋師傑出叢林,為祖J26nB181_p0407b04園翹楚。一朝罹患難、著逢掖,出九死而僅生,垂二十J26nB181_p0407b05年重削髮,夷險無二致,故山谷極贊以為不肯低頭J26nB181_p0407b06拾卿相,又能落筆生雲煙,況今歸復常寂光土,肯因J26nB181_p0407b07粢盛豐潔,反冒昧從人而甘受非類之禋祀乎哉?知J26nB181_p0407b08師斷不其然。然幽明暌隔,縱師吐棄,曷由證驗而表J26nB181_p0407b09白師衷?盍亦薄言震之,俾莫不震疊焉!庶幾少塞覬J26nB181_p0407b10覦而杜彼僥倖者之心;否則怏怏之徒,稍有不得乎J26nB181_p0407b11師,其誰不可恩歸往哲而慢易前人?如是則徒可以J26nB181_p0407b12叛師、子可以叛父、臣可以叛君,三五之倫將遂澌滅,J26nB181_p0407b13奚有于佛祖之道哉?杞憂是懷,惟師其陟降而鑒臨J26nB181_p0407b14之。尚饗!
見聞雜記
J26nB181_p0407b16憨山清大師遣戍嶺南,因得修葺曹谿,晚年恩旨放J26nB181_p0407b17還業,建逸老堂于匡山五乳峰下,適韶人再請還入J26nB181_p0407b18嶺,遂示寂曹谿。蕭相國為卜兆厝其全身。時五乳徒J26nB181_p0407b19屬,更迎師龕至匡廬,以青烏家言各人人殊,屢葬屢J26nB181_p0407b20遷莫適從。會師俗弟子作牧豫章,復舁歸曹谿。將窆J26nB181_p0407b21矣,而總戎宋公必欲易置含殮。及啟龕,則爪髮已長,J26nB181_p0407b22貌顏不改如生,由是即肉身奉供曹谿焉!
先師卒未J26nB181_p0407b23久,即託生桐鄉為顏氏子。三歲不語,一日忽呼其父J26nB181_p0407b24名,父訝之,師曰:「你蓋我前身弟子也。」後其父登兩牓J26nB181_p0407b25司李五羊,師又叱其名曰:「吾不喜你占高魁,喜你官J26nB181_p0407b26嶺南,吾因得至曹谿耳!」俄染疾公署,復謂其父曰:「你J26nB181_p0407b27為我召督學使者魏公仲雪來。」父難之。師曰:「云我有J26nB181_p0407b28命,渠必赴也。」魏公至,與之酬醋,驩若平生,徐語公曰:J26nB181_p0407b29「我不起矣!煩子筆,銘我骨而藏諸曹谿之原乎!」遂卒。J26nB181_p0407b30於乎!隔陰不迷,已度越四果聲聞矣!復以往還久窆J26nB181_p0407c01之身,起眎人天,非夙承大願力,而以死生作大佛事J26nB181_p0407c02者,烏能然哉?
J26nB181_p0407c03天台無盡燈法師,晚年說經幽谿,時魏璫方羅織公J26nB181_p0407c04卿,緹騎紛紛四出,朝野莫不寒心,座下聽眾,間有竊J26nB181_p0407c05議其事者,師訶之曰:「棄俗為僧,當遵佛制,彼朝政得J26nB181_p0407c06失,豈我輩所宜言者?且逆璫擅作威福,不日戍皇陵,J26nB181_p0407c07將作投環鬼矣!議彼奚為?」
迨先帝登極,師已歸寂,踰J26nB181_p0407c08年而魏璫之死,一如師語不忒,豈師有夙通邪?抑如J26nB181_p0407c09蟲禦木也邪?我聞定慧堅持,淨光自發,師其以是也J26nB181_p0407c10夫。
J26nB181_p0407c11無念禪師住黃檗日,山寺岑寂無外檀,歲食力不贍,J26nB181_p0407c12監寺融公有高行善尊養,置為恆產用以裕眾,方慶J26nB181_p0407c13賴之,師獨議訶曰:「多藏必厚亡,他日禍吾叢林,必爾J26nB181_p0407c14屬也。」後師與融公相繼化去,未幾,秦淮寇作,聞山寺J26nB181_p0407c15饒粟,長驅就食,遂殘破焉!於乎!若師者可謂有遠識J26nB181_p0407c16矣!
J26nB181_p0407c17博山來禪師敬嚴法道,座下嘗五百眾,有誾首座者J26nB181_p0407c18依之最久,一眾視誾如黃梅秀,應得師衣缽者。默叩J26nB181_p0407c19師,師曰:「渠不得吾真血脈。」曰:「舉眾無如誾,師雖無意J26nB181_p0407c20誾,獨不虞壽昌法道邪?」師曰:「便絕何妨?」遂無所屬累J26nB181_p0407c21焉!
後師圓逝,誾亦出世,信之嬴山,然終不振而沒。雖J26nB181_p0407c22不可謂師前識,觀師不肯妄有付授,蓋與大陽同意,J26nB181_p0407c23而世無浮山可歎焉!然味師真血脈之一言,抑歎諸J26nB181_p0407c24方之愚陋可笑也。朋從黨附,在往哲所極斥以為庸J26nB181_p0407c25妄者,今皆俾之策名祖牒,以為非是則門庭不浩大、J26nB181_p0407c26支葉不繁茂,其如呂秦牛晉,早以絕根敗蔕何?然則J26nB181_p0407c27諸方雖存,實倍屣于師之絕;師雖絕,實千萬於諸方J26nB181_p0407c28之存,然則諸方固不存而師又何絕哉?若謂其等絕J26nB181_p0407c29耳!與其絕于庸妄也。孰與師?
J26nB181_p0407c30天童悟和尚,因淑之賢臥病鄮山,命僧餽諸藥餌,僧J26nB181_p0408a01曰:「心病還將心藥醫,賢公以不蒙師記莂,憂鬱成疾J26nB181_p0408a02耳!參苓豈應病與藥者?」師正色喻之曰:「前人付授,謂J26nB181_p0408a03其道眼精明,足以開鑿人天也。若名位得喪日嬰于J26nB181_p0408a04懷,則生死心正未破,道眼安在哉?」竟無所付授,未幾,J26nB181_p0408a05賢亦病卒。
J26nB181_p0408a06海岸端伯黃公,以虎林司李赴召入京,時公已望先J26nB181_p0408a07師不肯可,而師于壽昌博山間置微喙愈嫌隙,屬舟J26nB181_p0408a08中無事,簡先師語錄漫加雌黃,且塗抹焉!忽聞空中J26nB181_p0408a09有厲聲而譴告者曰:「天童悟和尚,肉身大士也,你何J26nB181_p0408a10為者而慢易其語言,罪將及你矣!」公由是驚悸失心,J26nB181_p0408a11徑返匡廬剃髮,舟過維揚,親為予言如此。
吁!君子有J26nB181_p0408a12三畏:畏天命、畏大人、畏聖人之言。公非不知畏也,特J26nB181_p0408a13掩于一時生滅心耳!後弘光朝復返初服,起為儀曹J26nB181_p0408a14郎,清師入石頭,不屈而死,天下卒以是多公焉!
J26nB181_p0408a15淮僧定水、蜀僧白鷗、越僧蕭山、撫州僧鐵牛,皆叢林J26nB181_p0408a16所知見為六群輩者。鐵牛依淑之賢最久;蕭山與白J26nB181_p0408a17鷗曾參先師悟和尚,一親金粟,一近天童;而定水則J26nB181_p0408a18出入天童、雲門二老之間,咸謂于諸師有得,往往以J26nB181_p0408a19禪道詫謠俗,謠俗卒韙之莫辨,故定水且受天衣,為J26nB181_p0408a20雲門信燒香矣!
俄越州亂,清兵掩捕至山,遂剚刃并J26nB181_p0408a21燬其寺焉!白鷗為虎所傷、蕭山磔于寇、鐵牛亦支解J26nB181_p0408a22王兵之手。
於乎!使數僧不即死,死而得正斃焉!其混J26nB181_p0408a23真淆俗未具論,而樹大櫱生,又孰能為吾宗諒者?佛J26nB181_p0408a24法有靈,于茲驗矣!
J26nB181_p0408a25明末闖賊寇中原,攻城破邑殺人如芥,淮蔡有男子J26nB181_p0408a26憂不自全,日禱關聖祠求庇焉!關聖見夢,告之曰:「定J26nB181_p0408a27業難逃,非我不你庇也。厥後二百日,你冤對至矣!你J26nB181_p0408a28與王姓以九行者,已六生相賊戕,此生合渠殺你。或J26nB181_p0408a29哀求彼有悔心,則可免,你審記之。」寤而回皇不去心,J26nB181_p0408a30先是其女兄之夫有浮家外郡者,忽得病且殆,趍書J26nB181_p0408b01督護姊甥,扶櫬歸里,重以母命行,弗樂也,及至彼而J26nB181_p0408b02病者適愈,亟回韁而賊至矣!因棄所乘隱叢薄間,全J26nB181_p0408b03隊已過,餘一騎耳!顧見得之,即欲剚刃,乃疾呼其姓J26nB181_p0408b04名,泣而丐哀。渠魁訝之,具述關聖夢告之言,渠魁驚J26nB181_p0408b05曰:「若使殺人有報復,則吾百生酬償不了,奈何更添J26nB181_p0408b06你邪?」扶掖就乘,揮之使去,騎驚而撲倒者三,渠魁倒J26nB181_p0408b07戟卓之曰:「是焉得此沒用處漢哉?」歸而傷發于背而J26nB181_p0408b08死焉!
復有男子避賊,臥于僵尸之下,夜有官屬,從騎J26nB181_p0408b09甚盛,按簿閱諸殺傷者,至其名,則曰:「斯人合有棺,不J26nB181_p0408b10應死此。」而男子則以有官自負也。既脫難矣!家族淪J26nB181_p0408b11亡無所歸,有姪吏京畿,往依焉!且語之故。姪曰:「俾而J26nB181_p0408b12登科擢第,我實不能,若異路功名,如拾芥耳!」乃為之J26nB181_p0408b13納粟,例得縣佐,俄而病死,僅一棺耳。噫!世儒固言死J26nB181_p0408b14生有命、富貴在天,抑知自作自受、報由業因,彼天與J26nB181_p0408b15命,亦安能主張乎人哉?
J26nB181_p0408b16有一士人,夢衣褐而黧黯者求救甚切,次日入市,見J26nB181_p0408b17縛巨黿,適就刀俎,贖而放之。俄而其幼子肄業鄉塾,J26nB181_p0408b18弄水沒于谿,晚而尋求,得諸水濱,艤舟救之,有物馱J26nB181_p0408b19負,蓋所放之黿也,因得不死焉!
復有徽商附舟至一J26nB181_p0408b20處,見犬繫于檣,問其故,則曰:「索負而償者,慮其逸,將J26nB181_p0408b21入宰屠之肆矣!」徽商惻然,出金以贖,露重貲焉!舟人J26nB181_p0408b22利其有,夜半縛置布囊投諸淵,犬亦赴水,盡力銜負J26nB181_p0408b23得傍蘆灘。天明,復銜耕者之衣,牽至其處,解而得救。J26nB181_p0408b24犬與黿固義俠哉!而放生得生,果因元不爽也?彼甘J26nB181_p0408b25心逞志于一身一口,而致冤招永世者,抑獨何與?
J26nB181_p0408b26北麻周承甫者,吳江縣學生也,因修河舫貰用平望J26nB181_p0408b27張某桐油近十金,以張死,規負不還。其子從索反相J26nB181_p0408b28訐告,而張氏固孱弱,無如何也。未幾,周亦病死。先一J26nB181_p0408b29夕,張氏夢周衣絹領青綈袍,匍伏其家宇下。天明,犬J26nB181_p0408b30生三子,有白項者在焉!呼犬故不應,以承甫名呼之,J26nB181_p0408c01輒便翻跳躍而至,或遇親鄰舊識,則避匿不出。咄嗟!J26nB181_p0408c02勞生不畏後世,方其三寸氣息尤存,陵人逮如不勝,J26nB181_p0408c03豈顧謾心昧己哉?及乎報盡一朝,身毛已出,未免搖J26nB181_p0408c04尾弭耳,屈伏前人,況復三途一入,永劫難回?再復人J26nB181_p0408c05身,其何日之有?業之化人得不寒心也邪!
J26nB181_p0408c06戊子越中變亂,民間子女為官兵所掠者以萬計,有J26nB181_p0408c07小民妻亦在掠中,其夫愛不忍割,蹤跡得于某部之J26nB181_p0408c08卒,議金以贖。卒曰:「須三十兩乃可。」及如約而往,則又J26nB181_p0408c09欲五十兩,妻曰:「爾窮漢,何從措辦以滿奴腹邪?我將J26nB181_p0408c10死以謝爾矣!」遂自經,卒大怒,為剖腹抉腸復抴其屍,J26nB181_p0408c11以懼諸掠者,乃投之廁。登時雷擊其卒,死跪廁前。快J26nB181_p0408c12哉!當視天夢夢之時,而靈爽如此。《泰誓》曰:「天視自我J26nB181_p0408c13民視,天聽自我民聽。」有以也夫!
J26nB181_p0408c14己丑諸暨大疫,有一老者,持十金詣市買棺,且以直J26nB181_p0408c15與賣者之家懇舁以歸。及門久候,寂無聲響,排闥入J26nB181_p0408c16視,則僵尸八口,闔戶死矣!而簣中有老者,蓋買棺翁J26nB181_p0408c17也,愍而殮之。夜復見夢致謝曰:「蒙子收骸,恩莫大焉!J26nB181_p0408c18但我家人尚暴露奈何?我有七十金在某牆中,子破J26nB181_p0408c19而出之,可作棺費,而灶下復有三十金,足以酬子矣!J26nB181_p0408c20子其為我善為之。」覺而起金,一如其數。
又予家先伯J26nB181_p0408c21早逝十餘年,伯姊將及笄矣!適有目疾,忽見身存慰J26nB181_p0408c22為診脈且灼灸焉!遺艾一包金三兩,與伯姊藥石,視J26nB181_p0408c23艾則蘄艾,金則皆十成白鏹也。復咄嗟語伯姊:「你母J26nB181_p0408c24不曉事,女有疾,恬不求醫診視,命渠速請醫某來。」伯J26nB181_p0408c25母稍遲違,則怒而擊破家釀一巨罈,審所擊物,蓋後J26nB181_p0408c26槽石也。聞乳母有絮言,復怒曰:「我為愛女辛苦來,我J26nB181_p0408c27豈閒神埜鬼者?語無狀當斥,念乳我者姑忍之。」又謂J26nB181_p0408c28伯姊:「你母不操切焉持家?雞逸鄰巷為人掩捕矣!」驗J26nB181_p0408c29之果然。如是者經月日,始別伯姊:「我試期在即,今暫J26nB181_p0408c30去,你審自愛。」遂無聲跡焉!於乎!幽明一致,孰謂死而J26nB181_p0409a01無知哉?
J26nB181_p0409a02婁東海寧寺,有鐵樹一株,于萬曆十六年三月初八J26nB181_p0409a03日,忽靈枝生幹,異葩煥發,牆壁瓦礫觸之咸作金色。J26nB181_p0409a04又于崇禎四年,寺僧修塑羅漢,已裝十七位矣,而因J26nB181_p0409a05竭陀尊者未有檀施。歲朝,從其指端流光數道,達于J26nB181_p0409a06門衢,不日而莊嚴畢備焉!九年四月八日,州人在寺J26nB181_p0409a07興修佛寺,復感佛面舒光,傾動一時。順治戊子六月J26nB181_p0409a08十四日,經藏又于中夜放光,衝宵達旦。夫何州無寺?J26nB181_p0409a09何寺無經像?而海寧獨擅靈異者?以予觀婁人于三J26nB181_p0409a10寶特信敬,尤復留神空宗,厥祥蓋有由然哉!
J26nB181_p0409a11明末寇起關中,杜弢武為予言:「吾鄉民張氏素驍勇,J26nB181_p0409a12有山莊傍河塘,李御史愛其林泉可樂,倩人求為別J26nB181_p0409a13業,張弗許,李嗾有司逮以不法事。張懼禍,偕所知十J26nB181_p0409a14八人竄身綠林。時歲大饑,人咸思亂,一哨而蜂叢螘J26nB181_p0409a15聚,孰知其遂亡天下乎?」山翁氏曰:「昔之亡也,非其君J26nB181_p0409a16昏則其政弊,亂有由然矣!明興三百年,無失道之君,J26nB181_p0409a17特以官邪敗之,安危固不有數哉?獨恨彼虎而冠者J26nB181_p0409a18腰金衣紫,貴為天子命吏,亦己父母烝黎矣!奈何肆J26nB181_p0409a19其貪殘,剝民之膏、吸民之髓?遂俾天怒于上,人怨于J26nB181_p0409a20下,一朝谷遷陵變,身之存者要亦無幾。然則彼虎而J26nB181_p0409a21冠者,亦何樂而亡人之家國哉?」
J26nB181_p0409a22甲申三月十九,闖賊犯闕,入據神京,宣諭大小臣工J26nB181_p0409a23俱于二十一日廷見,投名牒者職如故。是日,百官畢J26nB181_p0409a24集朝堂,始聞先帝龍去煤山矣!一象故越常儀,獨仰J26nB181_p0409a25視大內,若飲恨然者。象奴以鐵鉤牽制,唯俯首搶地J26nB181_p0409a26淚如泉注而已。四夷館復有回回使者六人,亦召入J26nB181_p0409a27不拜,賊怒欲置重辟,使者曰:「我受命聘中華,吾君知J26nB181_p0409a28有大明天子,不知有易姓之禍也。歸告吾君,以貢獻J26nB181_p0409a29來朝,則舞蹈何辭?今無君命,故不敢耳!」賊終莫能屈J26nB181_p0409a30焉!二事蓋海陵魯生者目所親睹,為予言如此。傳曰J26nB181_p0409b01「夷狄之有君」,信夫!然象真不媿唐之舞馬哉!
J26nB181_p0409b02吳興王元振者,潘大中丞僕也。幼鬻昭度家,既長,贖J26nB181_p0409b03為府吏。郡守起義,元振與焉!昭度子國瓚,亦在其中。J26nB181_p0409b04事敗,同執縛,將就戮矣!元振固爭:「國瓚無辜,其家器J26nB181_p0409b05械悉我儕所藏。」蓋徵餉國瓚,實也。國瓚父子六人,由J26nB181_p0409b06是得免。其弟冀脫兄危,復自首為元振真身,亦怡然J26nB181_p0409b07受刑焉!夫以死代兄,弟誠賢矣!彼元振何人,乃能身J26nB181_p0409b08維故主之子,況故主乎?今之受國洪恩而不知有故J26nB181_p0409b09主,對元振有媿容,尚何以視息于天下哉?
J26nB181_p0409b10孝子張命長,山東安丘人也,壯為縣吏,任俠,睹諸吏J26nB181_p0409b11受賕多不法,知吏不可為,則棄刀筆,歸耕隴畝。家有J26nB181_p0409b12產甚薄,計俯仰不足以周事畜,然性至孝,深畏缾滋J26nB181_p0409b13罍恥,一唯竭力是將,擬所食恆倍中農叵豫也。適母J26nB181_p0409b14患眼甚苦,醫且百方莫效其一,尤痛不可忍,因默自J26nB181_p0409b15禱天:「儻母夙業報當毀眼,願抉一目贖母愆,毋使母J26nB181_p0409b16長嬰痛苦也。」俄而母患果痊,欣然白母抉目,母力阻J26nB181_p0409b17不允,自審違命非孝,假令昧己欺天或母痛轉劇奈J26nB181_p0409b18何?乃躬就城隍稟明夙誓,抉一目焉!或曰:「張命長非J26nB181_p0409b19孝也,孝子之道身體髮膚受之父母不敢毀傷,今毀J26nB181_p0409b20目憂親,理固不可,抑命長自揣天不可欺,不知父母J26nB181_p0409b21者人之天也?母天不允,亦可以謝彼蒼矣!必彊欲抉J26nB181_p0409b22之,是謂執中無權,此不學之過也。」予曰:「子則學焉而J26nB181_p0409b23不精,未逮乎中?其在張命長之下乎?《詩》云:『投我以木J26nB181_p0409b24桃,報之以瓊瑤。』子知身體髮膚受之父母,不知還為J26nB181_p0409b25父母酬以身體髮膚則是報也,匪傷也。又《傳》曰:『舜其J26nB181_p0409b26大孝也與!德為聖人。』使舜而亦昧己欺天焉!且不可J26nB181_p0409b27以為人,烏可以言聖?命長唯不敢昧己欺天,斯真完J26nB181_p0409b28而素葆,目之曰孝子,張命長奚媿焉!」
J26nB181_p0409b29甲申之變,三吳士大夫,有慷慨激烈攀先帝龍髯而J26nB181_p0409b30死者;有因財致禍,受李闖酷刑而死者;復有屈節辱J26nB181_p0409c01身,徼倖不死而卒不免于死者。詞林某某,蓋舍義而J26nB181_p0409c02求生者也。乙酉夏五,清兵渡楊子,還挾重貲,避地江J26nB181_p0409c03南,自慶出萬死入一生矣!于門生故吏之家,日飲酒J26nB181_p0409c04高會,而閭閻早有聲言為先皇討不義之臣者,一鼓J26nB181_p0409c05群從,遂縛以投諸江而死焉!夫死一耳!語云「死有重J26nB181_p0409c06于泰山,有輕于鴻毛」者,言死貴得其所也。使某詞林J26nB181_p0409c07知有今日之死,則將死于先皇上賓之日,而名且與J26nB181_p0409c08天壤同流矣!奚為受制群兒而以醃醦至死哉?予尤J26nB181_p0409c09悲夫今之學者,本為生死事大,乃返依違姑惜,不能J26nB181_p0409c10抵死忘生與之一決。然日遷而月化,亦逮于死亡而J26nB181_p0409c11終無救焉!為可歎也夫!
J26nB181_p0409c12小童阿戎,臨海鄉民子也,受直為能仁牧豎。一日牧J26nB181_p0409c13牛山澗,適虎逸出牛旁,戎急高聲誦佛號,不去,復稱J26nB181_p0409c14大悲菩薩名,久之乃去。歸言知事,知事曰:「虎凶獸,見J26nB181_p0409c15當趨避,奈何慢易邪?」戎曰:「我即避,大牛或無恙,其如J26nB181_p0409c16小者何?」至哉仁人之言乎!道衰民散,受人國家與夫J26nB181_p0409c17荷擔佛法,而為容民畜眾之君子,安得忘身為物,悉J26nB181_p0409c18心阿戎之心,庶道法家國其有瘳哉?
