J40nB477_p0073c06師於康熙辛未冬,受安邑縉紳暨諸山本寺耆宿請,J40nB477_p0073c07繼席開堂。
J40nB477_p0073c08據室。拈拄杖橫膝,云:「把斷十方路,垂手萬仞巖。」卓一J40nB477_p0073c09卓,云:「文殊、普賢鍋裡立,德山、臨濟甕中埋。」驀顧左右,J40nB477_p0073c10云:「莫有跳得出底麼?設有,也須勘過了打。」
J40nB477_p0073c11法座。指云:「坐斷毘盧頂,不稟釋迦文,婢視聲聞,奴呼J40nB477_p0073c12菩薩,且道是什麼人?」喝一喝,便陞。拈香祝J40nB477_p0073c13壬畢,復懷中取香,云:「此一瓣香,西山頂上拾來,紫竹林J40nB477_p0073c14中蕩卻,爇出烈燄烜天,觸著髑髏粉碎,乘時拈出,供J40nB477_p0073c15養中興此山傳臨濟正宗第三十四世上古下梅先J40nB477_p0073c16師老和尚,非惟報德酬恩,且要雪恨復讎。」斂衣敷座。J40nB477_p0073c17白椎竟,乃橫按拄杖,云:「正令全提,當陽坐斷,三賢十J40nB477_p0073c18聖飲氣吞聲,鶻眼龍睛不敢正覷,有解別通一路者,J40nB477_p0073c19請出相見。」問:「晴空轟霹靂,峰頂起波濤,如何是迥出J40nB477_p0073c20尋常句?」師云:「不妨問著。」進云:「拈卻眾生界,推出祖師J40nB477_p0073c21關,如何是演唱宗乘句?」師云:「一場好笑。」進云:「一毫纔J40nB477_p0073c22露面,萬象悉回頭,如何是普利群機句?」師云:「太殺孤J40nB477_p0073c23負。」進云:「誰識古梅霜雪後,一枝香馥遍閻浮。」便拜,師J40nB477_p0073c24云:「放汝三十棒。」乃云:「向上一路,迥絕躋攀;格外一機,J40nB477_p0073c25了無依倚。識不可識,智莫能知。雖然如是,官不容鍼,J40nB477_p0073c26私通車馬。」驀拈拄杖,云:「直得三世諸佛把手并行,歷J40nB477_p0073c27代祖師通途無礙,直下安邦定國,人人頂𩕳上飛大J40nB477_p0073c28寶光;妙用無私,個個腳跟下縱橫十字。不見道:王令J40nB477_p0073c29已行天下遍,將軍塞外絕煙塵。」卓一卓,結椎,下座。
J40nB477_p0073c30結夏,上堂。「古人云:『不得動著,動著三十棒。』芙蓉則不J40nB477_p0074a01然,盡大地是圓覺伽藍,遍法界是當人自己。結也得,J40nB477_p0074a02不結也得。」顧視左右,云:「八萬四千非鳳毛,三十三人J40nB477_p0074a03入虎穴。」喝一喝,下座。
J40nB477_p0074a04上堂。「不落因果墮,不昧因果脫,兩枚野狐精,千古成J40nB477_p0074a05話墮。阿呵呵!會也麼?前是梯雲峰,後是老龍壑。」喝一J40nB477_p0074a06喝,云:「一聲霹靂起飛龍,斗轉星馳鯨浪闊。」拈棒下座,J40nB477_p0074a07大眾一時走散。
J40nB477_p0074a08佛成道日,上堂。「六載雪山,如癡如騃。一見明星,透頂J40nB477_p0074a09透底。雖然,也是賣卻甑子頭,換得簸箕尾。」喝一喝。
J40nB477_p0074a10久雨漲水,上堂。以拂子指云:「只者個自善慧手裡施J40nB477_p0074a11來,普賢口中吐出,東湧西翻,南騰北沸,推倒葛藤樁,J40nB477_p0074a12沒卻魍魎窟,教人人打濕腳跟,個個穿過腦骨。雖然J40nB477_p0074a13如是,在人天路上讓出一頭,到祖師門中秖堪滌足。」
J40nB477_p0074a14示眾。「明吞日月的人,撞著黑漆桶,一場懡㦬;捏碎乾J40nB477_p0074a15坤的漢,摸著爛冬瓜,未免鈍殺。所以芙蓉者裡,論非J40nB477_p0074a16不論是,貴失不貴得。會麼?破底砂鍋不畏火,沒鼻芒J40nB477_p0074a17鞋豈著賊?」
J40nB477_p0074a18示眾。「學道人切須具眼,若不具眼,未免遭人蠱惑,引J40nB477_p0074a19入黑山鬼窟,驢年未得出離。如所云:『涅槃心易曉,差J40nB477_p0074a20別智難明。』自此毒藥一出,不知毒殺幾多沒髓腦男J40nB477_p0074a21子。以為涅槃心秖一橛,可以易曉;差別智有多般,極J40nB477_p0074a22是難明。遂將自己亙古亙今、照天照地個光明幢拋J40nB477_p0074a23向搕𢶍堆頭,一任塵埋草裹,把他一切知識屙出的J40nB477_p0074a24屎尿如蓋世珠玉抱在心窩裡,死不肯放,謂我藉此J40nB477_p0074a25以了生脫死、超凡入聖,證深般若、得大辨才,當世出J40nB477_p0074a26世間一椿大事。此等愚昧,譬如離源覓水、舍本求枝,J40nB477_p0074a27一場畫餅。抑思萬法是心光、諸緣為性曉,若識一心,J40nB477_p0074a28便明萬法,如天普蓋、似地普擎,日月星辰、山川嶽瀆J40nB477_p0074a29以至萬象森羅,無不于中發現、于中洞曉,未曾欠缺J40nB477_p0074a30一點、暗昧一絲。所以古人道:『但向己求,莫從他覓。覓J40nB477_p0074b01即不得,得亦不真。』雖然,山僧恁麼告報,也是見兔放J40nB477_p0074b02鷹、應病與藥。汝若認真,便去舍他萬法、秖覓一心,又J40nB477_p0074b03是如猿捉影、守株待兔,何日方得了手?不見道:『覓心J40nB477_p0074b04了不可得。』心既不得,法亦何存?若是過量人,外不見J40nB477_p0074b05有萬法、內不見有一心,直下如一柄莫邪劍相似,真J40nB477_p0074b06如涅槃也剷卻、差別智慧也剷卻,乃至佛之與魔、凡J40nB477_p0074b07之與聖,明暗色空、一切名相總與剷卻,剷到無可剷J40nB477_p0074b08處,方許有少分相應。何故?不見道:『不見一色始是半J40nB477_p0074b09提,更須知有全提底時節。』且作麼生是全提底時節?」J40nB477_p0074b10驀顧左右,云:「三十年後向你道。」
J40nB477_p0074b11小參。「動念即乖,開口成妄,我王庫內無如是事。到者J40nB477_p0074b12裡,釋迦老子倒退三千里,閻羅大王喫鐵棒有分。且J40nB477_p0074b13道山僧又作麼生?劍為不平離寶匣,藥因救病出金J40nB477_p0074b14瓶。」
J40nB477_p0074b15驚蟄,值雨,小參。「晴空飛霹靂,平地起波濤,石頭土塊J40nB477_p0074b16盡翻身,跛鱉盲龜咸𨁝跳。未審衲僧分上合作麼生?」J40nB477_p0074b17拈拄杖,云:「攫霧拏雲推俊俏,乘風破浪羨英豪。」一齊J40nB477_p0074b18打散,出堂。
J40nB477_p0074b19應溈山請,上堂。「方掩柴關千嶂裡,又臨符使萬松間,J40nB477_p0074b20業緣大抵難迴避,隨順與情振六環。所以道:『法無定J40nB477_p0074b21相,遇緣即宗;道絕方問,隨處建立。』只得露出那吒神J40nB477_p0074b22臂,張開摩醯面孔,擐三玄鎧冑,展十智旗鎗,直蹋毘J40nB477_p0074b23盧頂上去也。」遂震威一喝,云:「高提無上法王印,千聖J40nB477_p0074b24從教落下風。」
機緣
J40nB477_p0074b26師一日領眾上毘盧峰採薪,次至其頂,遂跏趺而坐。J40nB477_p0074b27日將午,知眾云:「請和尚下山。」師云:「有人道得一語恰,J40nB477_p0074b28即下。」時侍者在傍云:「掀倒毘盧峰,和尚還下麼?」師不J40nB477_p0074b29顧。值歲遂出,師後放火,師亦不顧。少時,柴頭從山下J40nB477_p0074b30上來,師見便下。書記聞云:「可恨者柴頭!造次。」便入寮J40nB477_p0074c01將頭拳一頓。知藏聞云:「今日卻得個漢!」乃著袈裟,向J40nB477_p0074c02頭禮三拜。
J40nB477_p0074c03師因三禪客參,問云:「三鷹、一鷂、三虎、一豹,汝三人中J40nB477_p0074c04那個是獅子?」一僧便喝,師云:「汝既是獅子,為甚作野J40nB477_p0074c05干鳴?」僧纔進語,師便打。一僧近前一掌,師約住云:「汝J40nB477_p0074c06若是獅子,何得露出野狐手?」僧擬議,師亦打。隨後一J40nB477_p0074c07僧佇立不語,師云:「汝莫是踞地獅子麼?」僧亦不語,師J40nB477_p0074c08打云:「者死野狐。」
J40nB477_p0074c09師在方丈內坐,僧問:「如何是第一義?」師云:「我早為汝J40nB477_p0074c10道了也。」僧云:「和尚并未與某甲道。」師云:「汝忘卻了,試J40nB477_p0074c11記看。」僧良久,云:「某甲記出來了。」便出去。
J40nB477_p0074c12師扯草次,一僧問云:「扯他作麼?」師撫地一下,云:「又▆J40nB477_p0074c13也。」僧便去,師又撫地一下,云:「牽枝引蔓去也。」
J40nB477_p0074c14師因涅槃堂一僧常叫云:「苦!苦!無人救得我。」師聞,拈J40nB477_p0074c15棒入堂云:「莫道無人救你。」便打,僧即化去,眾皆不悅。J40nB477_p0074c16明日茶毘,薪盡如故。師至火池,拍手云:「蒼天!蒼天!者J40nB477_p0074c17漢救不得也。」須臾灰生,眾始服。
J40nB477_p0074c18師落堂次,豎起竹篦問僧云:「道!道!」僧便拜,師便打,僧J40nB477_p0074c19便去。師叫眾云:「大眾!者僧福不單行,山僧禍有重至。」
J40nB477_p0074c20僧問:「某甲向和尚前逞神通,得麼?」師搊住,云:「汝試𨁝J40nB477_p0074c21跳看。」僧擬議,師便打趁。
J40nB477_p0074c22僧問:「如何是祖師門下事?」師云:「好愁人。」進云:「愁個甚J40nB477_p0074c23麼?」師云:「日裡要喫飯,夜間還打眠。」
J40nB477_p0074c24僧參,纔展具,師拈棒云:「有棒不打恁麼驢漢。」僧云:「某J40nB477_p0074c25甲特來。」師云:「道得與你棒喫。」僧以頭作就勢,師擲棒J40nB477_p0074c26歸方丈。
J40nB477_p0074c27僧問:「如何是芒鞋邊事?」師云:「薄處先穿。」
J40nB477_p0074c28僧問:「佛法大有,只是牙痛,此意如何?」師云:「丟下此事,J40nB477_p0074c29別問將來與你道。」進云:「秖如我要為你說,只是被當J40nB477_p0074c30門齒礙,又作麼生?」師云:「教你問別的,又問個事。」便掌J40nB477_p0075a01出。
J40nB477_p0075a02僧問:「如何是第一句?」師隨聲便打。「如何是第二句?」師J40nB477_p0075a03亦打。「如何是第三句?」師連棒打退。僧以手指云:「恁麼J40nB477_p0075a04瞎漢,敢稱臨濟兒孫?」便去往南嶽。途間忽有省,云:「原J40nB477_p0075a05來溈山棒頭大有機關在。」遂返入方丈,未作禮,先呈J40nB477_p0075a06頌云:「第一句,隨聲打,毘盧師,口亦啞。第二句,也一棒,J40nB477_p0075a07即那吒,須魂喪。第三句,連棒退,知是賊,莫入隊。」師覽J40nB477_p0075a08畢,問云:「是汝作否?」僧云:「是。」師便打三十趁出。
J40nB477_p0075a09僧問:「狗子還有佛性也無?」師云:「狗子且置,你道釋迦J40nB477_p0075a10老子還有佛性也無?」僧纔進語,師便打。
J40nB477_p0075a11師因一老衲參,不搭袈裟,禮三拜,師打三棒。衲出至J40nB477_p0075a12客堂,云:「久聞溈山,原來秖恁麼。」便下山。知客入方丈J40nB477_p0075a13舉似,師云:「悔。」便拗折拄杖。
J40nB477_p0075a14僧問:「魚以水為命,因甚死在水中?」師云:「生也在水中,J40nB477_p0075a15死也在水中。」進云:「還有透脫一路麼?」師云:「有。」進云:「如J40nB477_p0075a16何是透脫一路?」師云:「一串穿卻。」
J40nB477_p0075a17僧參,師問云:「甚處來?」云:「江西。」師云:「馬師安否?」云:「有大J40nB477_p0075a18病在。」師云:「甚麼病?」云:「逢人便說亂話。」師便打,僧便喝,J40nB477_p0075a19師亦打。
J40nB477_p0075a20師因典賦侍立次,拈起棒問云:「你道山僧是什麼意?」J40nB477_p0075a21賦云:「出林猛虎,咬人火急。」師大笑云:「錯會山僧意在。」J40nB477_p0075a22賦「云:和尚意作麼生?」師云:「我要撥草尋蛇去。」賦便掌,J40nB477_p0075a23師擲棒休去。
J40nB477_p0075a24僧問:「鏡鑄為像,未審光明在什麼處?」師以手指僧云:J40nB477_p0075a25「眼睛、耳朵、鼻孔。」進云:「還能自照麼?」師以手自指云:「眼J40nB477_p0075a26睛、耳朵、鼻孔。」
J40nB477_p0075a27居士問志言:「大士道三般人不會,且道是那三般人?」J40nB477_p0075a28師云:「汝姓甚?」云:「姓翁。」師云:「諱何?」云:「如巖。」師云:「名聻?」云:J40nB477_p0075a29「枯木。」師云:「出去。」
J40nB477_p0075a30師尋常凡有制語問者,多云:「現成的問他作麼?」一日,J40nB477_p0075b01有僧問云:「釋迦頭上戴角,彌勒[尸@乙]下生尾時如何?」師J40nB477_p0075b02云:「現成的問他作麼?」僧不服,便出,默念云:「古來未有J40nB477_p0075b03此語,何得云是現成?」遂舉似維那,那云:「你將此語再J40nB477_p0075b04去問看。」僧復如前問,師云:「恁麼則不是現成的也。」僧J40nB477_p0075b05于言下脫然。
J40nB477_p0075b06僧參,纔展具,師便喝,僧收具,師又喝,僧以具搭肩,進J40nB477_p0075b07前叉手立,師云:「弄精魂漢出去。」
J40nB477_p0075b08侍者辭,纔禮拜,師云:「作麼?」者云:「辭和尚行腳去。」師云:J40nB477_p0075b09「路去路斷,水去水乾。」者云:「還許學人住持麼?」師云:「蓋J40nB477_p0075b10頭無片瓦,立地無卓錐。」
J40nB477_p0075b11僧問:「灶神聞嵩山法,得悟便生天上。侍者聞嵩山法,J40nB477_p0075b12未審合生那裡?」師云:「入地獄如箭。」
J40nB477_p0075b13僧辭,師云:「甚處去?」僧云:「南海禮觀音去。」師云:「觀音如J40nB477_p0075b14今不在南海。」僧云:「在那裡?」師便打。
J40nB477_p0075b15師一日在廊立次,一僧近前視云:「好個奴兒!」師便坐。J40nB477_p0075b16僧云:「不失為溈山主人。」師便起去。
J40nB477_p0075b17僧問:「如何是以藥去病?」師云:「是病。」僧云:「如何是以病J40nB477_p0075b18去藥?」師云:「是藥。」僧云:「藥病一齊去時如何?」師云:「藥轉J40nB477_p0075b19多,病轉深。」進云:「和尚恁麼是藥?是病?」師云:「昨日山前J40nB477_p0075b20過,見個刖足人喫交,得個斷臂人扶起。」僧點首便去。
J40nB477_p0075b21師一日齋畢,謂眾云:「諸人莫只噇飯過日,山僧自知J40nB477_p0075b22有此事,以至今日尚不柰何。」西堂云:「者老漢納甚敗J40nB477_p0075b23缺?若是某甲,不消一捏。」師云:「吾不如汝。」

J40nB477_p0075b25舉:「馬祖因僧問:『離四句,絕百非,請師直指西來意。』祖J40nB477_p0075b26曰:『我今日勞倦,不能為汝說,問取智藏去。』僧問智藏,J40nB477_p0075b27藏曰:『何不問和尚?』僧曰:『和尚教來問。』藏曰:『我今日頭J40nB477_p0075b28痛,不能為汝說,問取海兄去。』僧又問百丈,丈曰:『我到J40nB477_p0075b29者裡卻不會。』僧卻回舉似祖,祖曰:『藏頭白,海頭黑。』」
舉世尊睹明星因緣,天寧琦曰:「如來明星現時成道,J40nB477_p0075c03你道半夜裡瞌睡底,還見明星麼?」
師云:「瞌睡底且置,J40nB477_p0075c04如今明星燦爛,汝等各各眼睜睜地,還見也未?若見,J40nB477_p0075c05何故不悟?若不見,眼在什麼處?」擊拂子一下。
舉:「昔有一老宿曰:『祖師九年面壁,為訪知音。若恁麼J40nB477_p0075c07會得,喫鐵棒有日在。』又一老宿曰:『祖師九年面壁,何J40nB477_p0075c08不慚惶?若恁麼會得,更買草鞋行腳三十年。』」
師云:「二J40nB477_p0075c09老雖則舌上有毒,諸人莫被瞞好。何故?喫鐵棒,買草J40nB477_p0075c10鞋行腳,自是衲僧向上事。」
舉:「金陵奉先深禪師同明和尚到淮河,見人牽網,有J40nB477_p0075c12魚從網跳出。深曰:『俊哉!一似個衲僧相似。』明曰:『雖然J40nB477_p0075c13如是,爭如不撞入網羅好?』深曰:『明兄,你欠悟在。』明至J40nB477_p0075c14中夜方省。」
師云:「明老中夜方,省事無所證;奉先藏鋒J40nB477_p0075c15驗,人理有偏枯。如今諸方莫不以透過為極則,殊不J40nB477_p0075c16知透過了,正坐在功勳過日。不見道:『直饒透過那邊,J40nB477_p0075c17更那邊了,再來者邊行履,始有為人分。』大眾!那邊即J40nB477_p0075c18不問,未審者邊作麼生行履?」
舉:「昔有婆子供養一菴主,經二十年,常令一二八女J40nB477_p0075c20子送飯給時。一日,令女子抱定,曰:『正恁麼時如何?』主J40nB477_p0075c21曰:『枯木倚寒巖,三冬無煖氣。』女子舉似婆,婆曰:『我二J40nB477_p0075c22十年秖供養得個俗漢。』遂遣出,燒卻菴。」
師云:「婆子捉J40nB477_p0075c23蛇傷手,菴主鉤賊破家,不如者個傳話女兒,似帶飛J40nB477_p0075c24廉埽地煞,敗盡郎家敗母家。」
舉:「洛浦參夾山,叉手而立,亦不禮拜。山曰:『雞栖鳳巢,J40nB477_p0075c26非同其髏。出去。』曰:『自遠趨風,乞師一接。』山曰:『目前無J40nB477_p0075c27闍黎,此間無老僧。』浦便喝。山曰:『住住,且莫草草匆匆。J40nB477_p0075c28須知雲月是同,谿山各異。坐斷天下人舌頭即不無,J40nB477_p0075c29闍黎作麼生教無舌人解語。』浦佇思,山便打。」
師云:「千J40nB477_p0075c30鈞之弩,不為鼷鼠發機;九轉靈丹,直下變凡成聖。有J40nB477_p0076a01般道:『夾山平地興波,換他洛浦眼睛。』與麼商量,老胡J40nB477_p0076a02一宗那有今日?殊不知他向烈燄光中辨玉石,鍼鋒J40nB477_p0076a03影裡化鶤鵬。還委悉麼?脫或未委,山僧不免土上加J40nB477_p0076a04泥去也。」喝一喝,云:「殺人刀,活人劍,具眼底一任辨取。」
舉:「百丈說法竟,大眾下堂,乃召之,大眾回首,丈曰:『是J40nB477_p0076a06甚麼?』」
師云:「大小百丈秖知覓取璉城寶,不覺錯過荊J40nB477_p0076a07山玉。若是山僧召,眾回首,但云:『伶俐衲僧,一呼便轉。』J40nB477_p0076a08非惟不埋沒諸人,亦見釣不虛垂。」
舉:「南泉示眾曰:『喚作如如,早是變了也。如今師僧須J40nB477_p0076a10向異髏中行。』歸宗曰:『雖行畜生行,不得畜生報。』泉曰:J40nB477_p0076a11『孟八郎漢又與麼去也。』」
師云:「水裡放身眠,還他南泉;J40nB477_p0076a12岸上擺手行,須是歸宗。雖然各有生涯,未免俱存朕J40nB477_p0076a13跡。山僧則不然,喫飯穿衣渾剩事,披毛戴角豈相干?」
舉:「南泉曰:『我十八上便解作活計。』趙州曰:『我十八上J40nB477_p0076a15便解破家散宅。』」
師云:「者兩個漢不守本分。何故?若非J40nB477_p0076a16作賊,定是殺人。」
舉:「溈山睡次,仰山問訊,溈便回面向壁。仰曰:『和尚何J40nB477_p0076a18得如此?』溈起曰:『我適來得一夢,你試為我原看。』仰取J40nB477_p0076a19一盆水與溈洗面。少頃,香嚴亦來問訊。溈曰:『我適來J40nB477_p0076a20得一夢,寂子為我原了,汝更與我原看。』嚴乃點一碗J40nB477_p0076a21茶來。溈曰:『二子見解過於鶖子。』」
師云:「水可開眼,茶能J40nB477_p0076a22清心,二子喚醒溈山夢則不無,若要原溈山夢猶未J40nB477_p0076a23得在。當日若是山僧,見伊恁麼道,但云:『和尚三妖在J40nB477_p0076a24命,五鬼臨身,一要謹口,二須慎行。』非獨原得者老漢J40nB477_p0076a25底夢親切,直教後來再不作夢。」
舉:「趙州因僧遊五臺,問一婆子曰:『臺山路向甚處去?』J40nB477_p0076a27婆曰:『驀直去。』僧便去。婆曰:『好個師僧,又恁麼去。』後有J40nB477_p0076a28僧舉似州,州曰:『待我去勘過。』明日,州便去問:『臺山路J40nB477_p0076a29向甚處去?』婆曰:『驀直去。』州便去。婆曰:『好個師僧,又恁J40nB477_p0076a30麼去。』州便歸院,謂僧曰:『臺山婆子為汝勘破了也。』」
師J40nB477_p0076b01云:「有道:『婆子有定乾坤句,趙州具辨龍蛇眼。』恁麼見J40nB477_p0076b02解,也是李向赤邊咬。若據山僧檢點,婆子只解▆▆J40nB477_p0076b03捉魚,趙州秖知袋裡捏鼠。若約衲僧正令,總須喫棒J40nB477_p0076b04始得。」
舉:「臨濟上堂,兩堂首座相見,同時下喝。僧便問:『還有J40nB477_p0076b06賓主也無?』濟曰:『賓主歷然。』復召眾曰:『要會臨濟賓主J40nB477_p0076b07句,問取堂中二首座。』」
師云:「同時下喝,可煞顢頇,賓主J40nB477_p0076b08歷然,錯下註腳,好各與三十趁出。」復喝一喝,云:「且道J40nB477_p0076b09山僧者一喝是賓?是主?」一僧纔出禮拜,師便連棒打J40nB477_p0076b10退。
舉:「臨濟上堂:『赤肉團上有一無位真人,常從汝等面J40nB477_p0076b12門出入,未證據者看看。』時有僧出問:『如何是無位真J40nB477_p0076b13人?』濟下禪床把住曰:『道!道!』其僧擬議,濟托開曰:『無位J40nB477_p0076b14真人是甚麼乾矢橛?』雪峰存曰:『臨濟太似白拈賊。』」
師J40nB477_p0076b15云:「大小雪峰不識好惡,錯下名言。臨濟道:『赤肉團上J40nB477_p0076b16有一無位真人』,大似白日見鬼。又曰:『無位真人是甚J40nB477_p0076b17麼乾矢橛』,也是自起自倒。甚麼處似白拈賊?」拈棒云:J40nB477_p0076b18「臨濟性命在山僧手裡。」
舉:「德山示眾曰:『今夜不荅話,問話者三十棒。』時有僧J40nB477_p0076b20出禮拜,山便打。僧曰:『某甲話也未問,和尚為什麼打J40nB477_p0076b21某甲?』山曰:『汝是甚麼處人?』僧曰:『新羅人。』山曰:『未跨船J40nB477_p0076b22舷,好與三十棒。』」
師云:「德山擬秉吹毛劍,反露葛藤椿。J40nB477_p0076b23既不荅話,為甚麼問者又打三十棒?可惜者僧不解J40nB477_p0076b24捋虎鬚。若是山僧見他纔恁麼道,便與拗折拄杖,任J40nB477_p0076b25伊縱有通天作略,也教忍氣吞聲。」
舉:「投子因僧問:『如何是十身調御?』子下禪床立。又僧J40nB477_p0076b27問:『凡聖相去多少?』子亦下禪床立。」
師云:「前下禪床立,J40nB477_p0076b28好與一掌推倒;後下禪床立,也好與一掌推倒。當時J40nB477_p0076b29若下得者兩推,免得者漢至今死在者裡。」
舉:「巖頭參德山,方跨門便問:『是凡是聖?』山便喝,頭禮J40nB477_p0076c01拜。有僧舉似洞山,山曰:『若不是奯公,大難承當。』頭聞J40nB477_p0076c02曰:『洞山老人不識好惡,錯下名言。我當時一手抬,一J40nB477_p0076c03手搦。』」
師云:「者則公案向德山喝中薦得,可以殺盡天J40nB477_p0076c04下人;向洞山句中薦得,可以罵盡天下人。且置,惟是J40nB477_p0076c05巖頭一手抬、一手搦,畢竟在什麼處?若也見得,便可J40nB477_p0076c06向虎口橫身、蛇頭揩癢,頭頭是入地之謀、著著得韜J40nB477_p0076c07天之略;若也未見,切須仔細好。」
舉:「興化因同參來,纔上法堂,化便喝,僧亦喝。化又喝,J40nB477_p0076c09僧亦喝。化近前拈棒,僧又喝。化曰:『你看者瞎漢猶作J40nB477_p0076c10主在。』僧礙議,化直打下法堂。侍者請問:『適來那僧有J40nB477_p0076c11甚觸忤和尚?』化曰:『他適來也有權,也有實,也有照,也J40nB477_p0076c12有用。及乎我將手向伊面前橫兩橫,到者裡卻去不J40nB477_p0076c13得。似者般瞎漢,不打更待何時。』者禮拜。」
師云:「興化橫J40nB477_p0076c14者兩橫,不惟同參到者裡去不得,就是諸佛列祖到J40nB477_p0076c15者裡亦去不得。雖然,要且落在山僧手裡。」乃拈棒云:J40nB477_p0076c16「莫有為興化作主者麼?」時有一僧出便喝,師云:「暗地J40nB477_p0076c17殺人猶可恕,明中作賊實難容。」便大棒打退。
頌古
J40nB477_p0076c19靈雲見桃花悟道,作偈曰:「三十年來尋劍客,幾回葉J40nB477_p0076c20落又抽枝。自從一見桃花後,直至于今更不疑。」乃舉J40nB477_p0076c21似溈山,山曰:「從緣悟入,永無退失。」有僧舉似玄沙,沙J40nB477_p0076c22曰:「諦當甚諦當,敢保老兄未徹在。」
僧問雲門:「佛法如水中月,是否?」門曰:「清波無透路。」曰:J40nB477_p0076c26「和尚從何得?」門曰:「再問復何來?」曰:「便與麼去時如何?」J40nB477_p0076c27門曰:「重疊關山路。」
佛法水中月,眼裡添金屑,清波無透路,料掉沒交J40nB477_p0076c29涉。便與麼,善擊節,可憐重疊關山路,衝浪錦鱗遭J40nB477_p0076c30點額。
洛浦參夾山因緣。
驅耕奪食,點銕成金,敲骨取髓,條令斬新。雲月同J40nB477_p0077a03兮人盡委,谿山異也共誰分?舌頭坐斷好消息,萬J40nB477_p0077a04仞巖前看翻身。高聲云:「險。」
鼓山赴閩王請,雪峰門送曰:「一隻聖箭射入九重城J40nB477_p0077a06裡去也。」孚上座曰:「和尚是伊未在?」峰曰:「渠是徹底人。」J40nB477_p0077a07勘破了也孚曰:「若不信,待某甲勘過。」勘破了也遂往J40nB477_p0077a08中路把住曰:「師兄甚麼處去?」山曰:「九重城裡去。」曰:「忽J40nB477_p0077a09遇三軍圍繞時如何?」山曰:「他家自有通霄路。」曰:「恁麼J40nB477_p0077a10則離宮失殿去也」。山曰:「何處不稱尊?」孚便回謂峰曰:J40nB477_p0077a11「好隻聖箭被我折卻了也。」遂舉前話,峰曰:「渠有語在。」J40nB477_p0077a12勘破了也孚曰:「這老凍儂猶有鄉情在。」勘破了也
重重勘破,不是註腳。明眼衲僧,何處摸索?烈燄爐J40nB477_p0077a14中玉石分,龍蛇陣上看謀略。真謀略,一箭雙鵰隨J40nB477_p0077a15手落。
金陵奉先深禪師同明和尚到淮河因緣。
衲僧俊俏透重淵,檢點將來只一邊。直下若能再J40nB477_p0077a18跳入,穿開碧落水中天。與麼地,絕偏圓,盤走珠兮J40nB477_p0077a19珠走盤。
丹霞訪龐居士,見靈昭女洗菜,乃問:「居士在否?」女放J40nB477_p0077a21下菜籃,叉手而立。霞又問:「居士在否?」女提籃便行,霞J40nB477_p0077a22便回。須臾居士歸,女舉前話,士曰:「丹霞在否?」女曰:「去J40nB477_p0077a23也。」士曰:「赤土塗牛奶。」
丹霞老賊,放憨不少。俊哉靈昭,應機善巧。叉手立J40nB477_p0077a25兮,乾坤坐斷。提籃行也,星飛電掃。只因舉處帶淆J40nB477_p0077a26訛,今古叢林俱靠倒。
興教坦和尚初開堂日,雪竇宗化主出問:「諸佛未出J40nB477_p0077a28世,人人鼻孔撩天;祖師既西來,因甚麼杳無消息?」坦J40nB477_p0077a29曰:「雞足峰前風悄然。」宗曰:「未在更道。」坦曰:「大雪滿長J40nB477_p0077a30安。」宗曰:「無人識此意,令我憶南泉。」拂袖歸眾,更不禮J40nB477_p0077b01拜。坦曰:「新興教今日失利。」便歸方丈,令人請宗至,曰:J40nB477_p0077b02「適來錯對一轉語,人天眾前何不禮拜蓋覆卻?」宗曰:J40nB477_p0077b03「大丈夫膝下有黃金,爭肯拜無眼長老?」坦曰:「我別有J40nB477_p0077b04語也。」宗理前問,至未在更道處,坦曰:「我有三十棒寄J40nB477_p0077b05打雪竇。」宗乃禮拜。
把定牢關,不容走作。得失是非,一并拈卻。針鋒影J40nB477_p0077b07裡騎大鵬,鶻眼龍睛難摸索。三十棒,三十棒,碧眼J40nB477_p0077b08黃頭罔度量。咄!
德山到溈山,挾複子于法堂上,從東過西,從西過東,J40nB477_p0077b10顧視曰:「無!無!」便去。行至門首,卻曰:「也不得草草。」復具J40nB477_p0077b11威儀,再入相見。為山坐次,德山提起坐具曰:「和尚!」溈J40nB477_p0077b12擬取拂子,德便喝,拂袖而出,背卻法堂,著草鞋便行。J40nB477_p0077b13溈山至晚問首座:「適來新到上座在什麼處?」座曰:「當J40nB477_p0077b14時背卻法堂,著草鞋去也。」溈山曰:「此子已後向孤峰J40nB477_p0077b15頂上盤結草菴,呵佛罵祖去在。」
明鎗易躲,暗箭難防。敬敵者勝,欺敵者亡。
僧問百丈:「如何是奇特事?」丈曰:「獨坐大雄峰。」僧禮拜,J40nB477_p0077b18丈便打。
咄汝癡禪和,討甚奇特事?未透萬重關,雄峰休造J40nB477_p0077b20次。便禮拜,欠伶俐,棒頭有眼爍乾坤,試問諸人會J40nB477_p0077b21不會?
雪峰住菴時,有二僧來禮拜,峰以兩手拓門,放身出J40nB477_p0077b23曰:「是甚麼?」僧曰:「是甚麼?」峰低頭歸菴。僧到巖頭,頭問:J40nB477_p0077b24「甚處來?」曰:「嶺南來。」頭曰:「曾到雪峰麼?」曰:「曾到。」頭曰:「有J40nB477_p0077b25何言句?」僧舉前話,頭曰:「他道什麼?」曰:「他無語,低頭歸J40nB477_p0077b26菴。」頭曰:「噫!我當初悔不向伊道末後句,若向伊道,天J40nB477_p0077b27下人不柰雪老何!」僧至夏末,再舉前話請益,頭曰:「何J40nB477_p0077b28不早問?」曰:「未敢容易。」頭曰:「雪峰與我同條生,不與我J40nB477_p0077b29同條死,要識末後句,只者是。」
末後句,為君說,神劍揮光如電掣。同條生死謾商J40nB477_p0077c01量,明暗雙雙須辨別。休辨別,巖頭老子只一橛。
文殊、普賢起佛見、法見,被世尊威神貶向二銕圍山。
推倒銕圍山,扶起二大老,佛見與法見,特地一時J40nB477_p0077c04埽。試看老瞿曇,何處弄牙爪?
須菩提問舍利弗:「夢中說六波羅蜜,與覺時同異?」弗J40nB477_p0077c06曰:「此義深遠,吾不能知。上方有彌勒大士深明此義,J40nB477_p0077c07可往問彼,當為汝說。」提即往問,勒曰:「誰是彌勒?誰云J40nB477_p0077c08彌勒?」
誰是彌勒云彌勒,金剛寶劍當頭截,若謂時時示J40nB477_p0077c10時人,敢保驢年猶未徹。
谷隱聰禪師上堂曰:「五白貓兒爪距獰,養來堂上絕J40nB477_p0077c12蟲行。分明上樹安身法,切忌遺言許外甥。且道作麼J40nB477_p0077c13生是許外甥底句?切忌錯舉。」
五白貓兒,不露牙爪,驀地觸著,破頭裂腦。樹頭樹J40nB477_p0077c15底足生涯,看來總是閒之遶,端的分明在目前,欲J40nB477_p0077c16辨來機須善巧。乃斫額,云:「貓。」
僧問雲門:「不起一念,還有過也無?」門曰:「須彌山。」
不起一念須彌山,一椎擊碎鬼門關。茫茫宇宙人J40nB477_p0077c19無數,盡日區區卻自瞞。
雲門問僧:「近離甚處?」曰:「西禪。」門曰:「西禪有何言句?」僧J40nB477_p0077c21展兩手,門打一掌。僧曰:「某甲話在。」門展兩手,僧無語,J40nB477_p0077c22門又打。
大用現前,不存軌則。石火電光,鶻眼罔測。駕與青J40nB477_p0077c24龍不解騎,直待當來問彌勒。
良禪客問欽山:「一鏃破三關時如何?」曰:「放出關中主J40nB477_p0077c26看。」良曰:「與麼則知過必改。」山曰:「更待何時?」良曰:「好箭J40nB477_p0077c27放不著所在。」便出。山曰:「闍黎且來。」良回首,山曰:「一鏃J40nB477_p0077c28破三關且置,試與欽山發箭看。」良擬議,山打七棒,曰:J40nB477_p0077c29「且聽者漢疑三十年。」
一鏃三關,不妨奇絕。照用齊行,應時及節。三月桃J40nB477_p0078a01花浪拍天,可怪龍門徒點額。
直得五年分不下,通身枷鎖盡情卸。海神知貴不J40nB477_p0078a05知價,留向人間光照夜。
僧問趙州:「至道無難,唯嫌揀擇。如何是不揀擇?」州曰:J40nB477_p0078a07「天上天下,唯我獨尊。」曰:「此猶是揀擇。」州曰:「田庫奴,甚J40nB477_p0078a08麼處是揀擇?」僧無語。
至道無難,唯嫌揀擇。天上天下,有甚交涉。報君知,J40nB477_p0078a10瞥不瞥,趙州老子猶未徹。
趙州示眾曰:「至道無難,唯嫌揀擇。纔有語言,是揀擇?J40nB477_p0078a12是明白?老僧不在明白裏,是你諸人還護惜也無?」僧J40nB477_p0078a13曰:「既不在明白裏,又護惜個甚麼?」州曰:「我亦不知。」曰:J40nB477_p0078a14「和尚既不知,為甚麼道不在明白裏?」州曰:「問事即得,J40nB477_p0078a15禮拜了退。」
由來至道本無難,揀擇明白落二三。雖然只在尋J40nB477_p0078a17常處,如隔千山與萬山。

J40nB477_p0078b02師諱巨翔,號天翼,楚永之陵霄張氏子。母熊,夢大▆J40nB477_p0078b03止屋,翅蔽雲日,驚覺有孕。越明年,康熙壬寅十二月J40nB477_p0078b04初五日辰時乃生。時五色鳥翔鳴榱簷之上,鄰僉異J40nB477_p0078b05之,曰:「此異鳥也,世所罕見。今產此子來儀,當後必大J40nB477_p0078b06有用。」因名大鶤焉。師生而姿神炯秀,瓊表嶷嶷,蓮胎J40nB477_p0078b07茹素,長不兒伍。父母窺其不凡,送靈山寺淨月師薙J40nB477_p0078b08染。九歲,授《楞嚴經》,至「清淨本然,云何忽生山河大地?」J40nB477_p0078b09遽有省,乃曰:「清淨本然,明明生出山河大地。」淨駭然J40nB477_p0078b10奇之,曰:「汝誠再來人也。」嗣是志氣精勤,旦夕無懈,淨J40nB477_p0078b11愈奇之。至十九歲,令謁西山藤煥和尚圓具,充水頭,J40nB477_p0078b12屢受追拶,寢食俱廢。一日,挑水次,煥忽把住,曰:「古人J40nB477_p0078b13道:『擔泉帶月歸。』泉在者裡,月聻?」師以手指水,煥以杖J40nB477_p0078b14築下桶底,曰:「正恁麼時如何?」師擬進語,被煥劈頭一J40nB477_p0078b15棒,師通身汗流,翻思昔者所得,爽然自失。由是參究J40nB477_p0078b16益篤,檢書物盡焚,曰:「此生不出古人一頭地,誓不放J40nB477_p0078b17手。」乙丑休夏毘盧洞,衫履無一完者,舉眾皆驚憫,師J40nB477_p0078b18毫不介意。一日,同參相謂曰:「溈山古和尚道風孤峻,J40nB477_p0078b19海內推尊,今退居芙蓉,子曷不見之?」師即就道。至山,J40nB477_p0078b20值梅在門外拔道上草,師見之,曰:「老老大大,猶有許J40nB477_p0078b21多閒氣力。」梅曰:「無人替得老僧。」師便掌,梅大笑,曰:「汝J40nB477_p0078b22從那裡來?」師曰:「南嶽。」曰:「又向那裡去?」師曰:「芙蓉。」曰:「去J40nB477_p0078b23不得。」師曰:「因甚去不得?」梅以杖劃一劃,師退身三步,J40nB477_p0078b24梅擲下拄杖,師便喝,梅亦退身三步,師拾杖便行,梅J40nB477_p0078b25復大笑歸方丈。從此執事左右,凡一切徵詰酬對悉J40nB477_p0078b26皆穎脫,梅深器之。戊辰侍梅下江南,過洞庭,暴風疾J40nB477_p0078b27作船勢危急,師有驚色,梅怒罵曰:「將謂汝是個人,於J40nB477_p0078b28此不了,平日弄業識何益?不見圓悟在金山染疾,作J40nB477_p0078b29主不來,始信五祖之言,乃盡情放下,方得徹頭徹尾。J40nB477_p0078b30又不見德山道:『毫端許末之未盡者皆為自欺。』老僧J40nB477_p0078c01今日與汝平實商量,此事不在口角邊,不從伶俐得,J40nB477_p0078c02所以道:『絕後再甦,欺君不得。』」師愧唯而已。己巳,梅令J40nB477_p0078c03掩關紫竹林,凡有問,師纔擬對,梅即掌住曰:「不是。不J40nB477_p0078c04是。」兩越寒暑,過勞成疾,師總不顧。一日梅提燈籠立J40nB477_p0078c05關外大叫曰:「看看。」師遂大悟,踢破關出,扭住梅曰:「者J40nB477_p0078c06老賊今日放不過也。」梅曰:「老僧過在甚麼處?」師推梅J40nB477_p0078c07倒地。梅曰:「切莫孤負老僧。」師便禮拜。至晚茶次,行者J40nB477_p0078c08失手觸碎茶盃,梅厲聲曰:「盞子撲落地,因甚碟子▆J40nB477_p0078c09七片?」師曰:「說甚碟子,直得盡山河大地一時瓦解冰J40nB477_p0078c10消。」者于言下有省,乃曰:「誰知今日到者田地。」梅顧▆J40nB477_p0078c11曰:「你看者漢小出大遇。」師曰:「添得一場愁。」梅曰:「汝又J40nB477_p0078c12作麼生?」師擊碎茶盃便出,梅曰:「孟八郎又與麼去也。」J40nB477_p0078c13未幾,梅示寂,出源流付師,師曰:「惟將水洗,惟將火焚。」J40nB477_p0078c14梅曰:「水不能洗,火不能焚。」便化去。師搥胸曰:「蒼天!蒼J40nB477_p0078c15天!」遂依法闍維,函舍利骨櫬歸芙蓉建塔。開期畢,安J40nB477_p0078c16邑護法請就本寺開堂。未幾,溈山的峰和尚敦請繼J40nB477_p0078c17席,師堅辭不赴。大梅與老和尚洎兩邑檀護必欲目J40nB477_p0078c18擊提唱,以舒望古老人後起之心,師勉強承應。于壬J40nB477_p0078c19申冬月念七日入院。一時椎拂之下,遐邇緇素咸相J40nB477_p0078c20贊喜曰:「眾角雖多,一麟足矣。」師為人端厚,領眾精嚴,J40nB477_p0078c21至于應機接人,極其爽捷。嘗曰:「諸人未見山僧已前,J40nB477_p0078c22山僧蚤在你肚裡,你一呼一吸,山僧拏定你。」又曰:「盡J40nB477_p0078c23大地是山僧棒頭,任你諸人橫也打著、豎也打著,向J40nB477_p0078c24那裡逃避?」又曰:「山僧拄杖子在諸人手裡,何不還我J40nB477_p0078c25一頓來?」學者罔探其旨。迄乙亥五月,夙恙舉發,師自J40nB477_p0078c26知化緣將畢,乃發啟請敬和尚住持,兼出源流,囑鐵J40nB477_p0078c27舟洪等四人曰:「先師開法四十年,不肯輕易許可,山J40nB477_p0078c28僧濫承其後,兢兢業業,惟恐為人之不精、立己之或J40nB477_p0078c29懈,有辱先宗。汝等當深體山僧苦裏,痛念祖道,深蓄J40nB477_p0078c30厚養,異日龍天,斷不孤負。」言訖,眾皆哽咽,悶僻于地。J40nB477_p0079a01至初九日申刻,命侍者擊報鐘,召眾集法堂,分付後J40nB477_p0079a02事畢,書偈而逝。塔于芙蓉寺東玉淵岐下。師世壽三J40nB477_p0079a03十三,僧臘一紀有二。珍叨侍記室甚久,聞見甚悉,特J40nB477_p0079a04述行履大概,以表不廢厥執云耳。
