師以西川華胄負環偉之才,當J29nB245_p0759a02禪道式微之秋,金石其心,冰霜J29nB245_p0759a03其操,契悟廣大,種性殊勝,炳炳J29nB245_p0759a04琅琅,自雙徑聚雲以來,至師而J29nB245_p0759a05益盛焉。雖居遐方邊郡,甘雨時J29nB245_p0759a06霖,有及不及,而親蒙授記,面命J29nB245_p0759a07耳提,亦為不少。嗣法者十有餘J29nB245_p0759a08人,普陀別公禪師,其少子也。師J29nB245_p0759a09臨涅槃時,皆諭以法門大事,尤J29nB245_p0759a10屬意別公,以東南行道為囑,如J29nB245_p0759a11昭覺之望徑山。久之,別公果不J29nB245_p0759a12違先志,行道東南,大申其旨。仍J29nB245_p0759a13J29nB245_p0759a14間閱司馬子長自序系次,上自J29nB245_p0759a15顓頊、唐、虞,下及商、周之際,而錯J29nB245_p0759a16而談,星河磊落,典雅精微,竊嘗J29nB245_p0759a17俯而思,仰而慕焉。吾宗臨濟十J29nB245_p0759a18一傳至昭覺勤,勤再傳至徑山J29nB245_p0759b01杲,杲又十四傳至聚雲真,真再J29nB245_p0759b02傳至慶忠機,機傳今高峰來禪J29nB245_p0759b03師,日月雷霆,聲光普應,朝野欽J29nB245_p0759b04之久矣,而復有年譜,何哉?此蓋J29nB245_p0759b05門人紀而次之,統論其始終條J29nB245_p0759b06理,以補其平生廣語之未備。夫J29nB245_p0759b07繹師播揚法化,隱顯洪纖,出處J29nB245_p0759b08首尾,表而次之,約二萬餘言。槁J29nB245_p0759b09成,問序于予,予不敏,曷能為弁?J29nB245_p0759b10然予少時亦曾入師之室,序其J29nB245_p0759b11敢辭乎?回觀四十年前,聆師咳J29nB245_p0759b12唾,承師指揮,其機辯稱性,雖德J29nB245_p0759b13山、臨濟何加焉?然別公之有是J29nB245_p0759b14舉也,其與子長千古並駕矣。

J29nB245_p0759c02 J29nB245_p0759c03師蜀重慶墊江人,姓曾氏,俗諱守定,字不波。自始J29nB245_p0759c05祖詮部敏公肇業,七世科甲,族冠川東。母涂氏夢J29nB245_p0759c06明月入懷有娠,于是年十月二十四日戌時紅光J29nB245_p0759c07透室,左右疑火驚來相救,師已下盤中矣。按師小J29nB245_p0759c08參云:「長三短五,七縱八橫,頭正尾正,眼全足全。會J29nB245_p0759c09得分文不直,不會疑則別參蒼天。山僧生在萬曆J29nB245_p0759c10四十二年。」又按師誕期上堂云:「小陽月,廿四期,山J29nB245_p0759c11僧母難,無可話題。但舉則古人機緣,拈頌幾句供J29nB245_p0759c12養大眾,貴圖報我雙親。昔人謂:『世尊未離兜率,已J29nB245_p0759c13降王宮;未出母胎,度人已畢。』恁麼道還是麼?聽取J29nB245_p0759c14一頌:『玉質水姿嶺上梅,孤根暖蒂朢春回。誰知含J29nB245_p0759c15笑三冬裏,不待春風花自開。』」
J29nB245_p0759c16四十三年,乙卯J29nB245_p0759c17四十四年,丙辰J29nB245_p0759c18師三歲,氣象挺特,隆準秀目,不類常童。叔父指謂J29nB245_p0759c19人曰:「詮部公祖塋案山,丙峰秀拔,堪輿家記後代J29nB245_p0759c20科第之外,當有異人出,此子其是耶?」
J29nB245_p0759c21四十五年丁巳J29nB245_p0759c22四十六年戊午J29nB245_p0759c23師五歲。昆仲三人,師居其季,家法不從外傳,父命J29nB245_p0759c24仲兄督之學孔孟書,啟卷輒能記誦,恍若舊識,舉J29nB245_p0759c25族異之。
J29nB245_p0759c26四十七年己未J29nB245_p0759c27四十八年庚申,即J29nB245_p0759c28光宗皇帝泰昌元年J29nB245_p0759c29師七歲,隨仲兄讀書石坎廟,兄偶出,即私取佛經J29nB245_p0759c30或語錄熟記之。按師行實云:「兒時好嬉戲,居恒喜J29nB245_p0760a01讀佛書及先德語錄,遇著無意味話,輒欣好不已J29nB245_p0760a02云云。」
J29nB245_p0760a03熹宗皇帝天啟元年辛酉J29nB245_p0760a04師八歲,業文有聲。是年,仲兄科舉獲首選,師擬科J29nB245_p0760a05題成文,持謂兄曰:「我之文與兄無異,兄應首選,弟J29nB245_p0760a06豈居第二耶?」仲兄以其言告父,共笑而已。
J29nB245_p0760a07二年壬戌J29nB245_p0760a08三年癸亥J29nB245_p0760a09師十歲,善詩,尤精《易》,學艸書。嘗語近侍曰:「余十歲J29nB245_p0760a10時,讀書山寺,同窗夜永請乩仙至,但畫圈,不能書J29nB245_p0760a11字。余扶乩,便能大小艸書,或扇、或條幅,揮霍如意,J29nB245_p0760a12句義神玅,言人禍福如響,如是者三夜。偶書示余J29nB245_p0760a13曰:『公乃大羅宮中人也,不久即返天宮矣。』移時,又J29nB245_p0760a14書云:『就在此時。』余怒,置乩,頓覺兩足麻木,漸至臍J29nB245_p0760a15腹,惟心胸不能過耳。同窗輩碎乩大罵,終莫能解。J29nB245_p0760a16速延黃冠朱起,交作法拿問,仍織乩令書,乃寺後J29nB245_p0760a17山又土地也,逼令還魂,遂平復如故。是時,弔嵒高J29nB245_p0760a18僧融凡聞之,至舍,謂曰:『公鬼魅不能侵,必具大乘J29nB245_p0760a19根器。』余曰:『何謂大乘根器?』融師曰:『久當自知。』」
J29nB245_p0760a20四年甲子J29nB245_p0760a21五年乙丑J29nB245_p0760a22六年丙寅J29nB245_p0760a23師十三歲。一日,與同社五十餘人會課作文畢,飲J29nB245_p0760a24會酒,沉醉喧鬧,夜且半,將所作文字用大桌反覆J29nB245_p0760a25壓定,各歸書房睡去。有行腳破衲僧住于廊下,甚J29nB245_p0760a26厭其輕浮,謂主僧曰:「者些書生文字何在?」主僧啟J29nB245_p0760a27桌與之,乃頃刻為之圈點、筆削、批評殆盡,付主僧J29nB245_p0760a28仍壓于桌上,其僧黎明遁去。次日近午,諸生復集,J29nB245_p0760a29請一老成者主看文字,啟桌視之,諸篇已無下筆J29nB245_p0760a30處,遂互相查問是誰人看過,無一人承當,並無一J29nB245_p0760b01人知其故者,細看其中刪改穩當,社中亦無人有J29nB245_p0760b02此手筆,皆致疑不決。主僧告曰:「諸公勿多怪,是昨J29nB245_p0760b03日東廊下寄宿破衲僧也。」競查此人何在?主僧曰:J29nB245_p0760b04「侵晨他往矣。」即追之,已不能及,眾皆相顧索然。師J29nB245_p0760b05自此知世外有高人,區區章句何足奇哉!遂白父J29nB245_p0760b06母,願學出世法,雙親嚴責不許。
J29nB245_p0760b07七年丁卯J29nB245_p0760b08師十四歲,應小試,登第四名。嘗謂近侍曰:「老僧少J29nB245_p0760b09時喜衣松花色,當縣公送考時,著袍乘馬,同眾魚J29nB245_p0760b10貫出城,街旁有老夫抱一四五歲孩子立看,孩子J29nB245_p0760b11忽指日:『穿黃的是箇秀才。』老夫喜兒能言,詰曰:『是J29nB245_p0760b12箇秀才。』那孩子復曰:『又像箇和尚。』同行聞之俱笑。J29nB245_p0760b13此行果獲遊泮,人皆以為童子之言必應,孰知做J29nB245_p0760b14和尚直應今日也。」
J29nB245_p0760b15思宗烈皇帝崇禎元年戊辰J29nB245_p0760b16師十五歲。父母謀與完姻。本邑翰林陳公,師岳父J29nB245_p0760b17也,以長女結姻,後遂失元配。繼娶某氏,待前子女J29nB245_p0760b18甚毒,至是親迎及門,某氏不悅,遂剪去長女髮。師J29nB245_p0760b19族眾皆奮恨不平,欲劫陳氏家,別謀結姻。會議既J29nB245_p0760b20定,其叔父曰:「大事不可艸艸,還須問過他本人始J29nB245_p0760b21得。」眾以為然,遂詣師室,惟閉戶閱書,若不聞見。及J29nB245_p0760b22母親扣,乃開門,母詰曰:「子意若何?」師曰:「彼繼母不J29nB245_p0760b23賢,與此女何干?既如此,但遲年月耳,勿廢大義。」母J29nB245_p0760b24曰:「我兒說是,不必更議矣。」闔族稱善。陳氏聞之,甚J29nB245_p0760b25感服,逾年內焉。
J29nB245_p0760b26二年己巳J29nB245_p0760b27師十六歲。應歲試,得一等第三名,食饌例後闕,一J29nB245_p0760b28新一舊,首二名俱現闕補去,後闕應屬師。二等生J29nB245_p0760b29員翁姓者,係舊廩,爭之不平,儒學莫能斷,具詳文J29nB245_p0760b30宗。文宗見師英年才品出眾,而例又當屬,面批闕J29nB245_p0760c01出曾生頂補,翁生慚退。
J29nB245_p0760c02三年庚午J29nB245_p0760c03師十七歲,科舉將行,夜夢衲衣僧,偉儀殊相,步趨J29nB245_p0760c04而前曰:「君能憶夙世因否?」師曰:「不知也。」僧袖出一J29nB245_p0760c05鏡,鏡光中見一本並蒂蓮,開四朵花心,各坐小相J29nB245_p0760c06一尊。師問僧曰:「此何因?」曰:「乃君四世前身也。」遂驚J29nB245_p0760c07覺。次日,怏怏然赴省城,雖文終三場不第,師殊不J29nB245_p0760c08介意,蓋塵念輕故也。
J29nB245_p0760c09四年辛未J29nB245_p0760c10師十八歲,頻與緇衣往來,耽味禪學。按行實云:「一J29nB245_p0760c11日,伏案雞窗,有僧傳得聚雲師翁古音王傳至,捧J29nB245_p0760c12讀再三,若醉若醒。繼得本師鐵老人錄、巴掌法叔J29nB245_p0760c13錄,焚香禮誦,心花頓開。他如諸家之語,入目頗多,J29nB245_p0760c14而聲氣不浹。常自矢曰:『吾異日必為聚雲兒孫也。』」
J29nB245_p0760c15五年壬申J29nB245_p0760c16師十九歲,舉一子,自謂箕裘有託,常興出世之想,J29nB245_p0760c17居恒著書以見意。按行實云:「自著有《閑譚》、《淡語》、《日J29nB245_p0760c18息語》三書,大約皆覷破世情,鐸惺夢幻之句,幾思J29nB245_p0760c19頓脫塵綱,奈父兄以功名責朢甚殷,不能自遂。」
J29nB245_p0760c20六年癸酉J29nB245_p0760c21師二十歲,科舉赴省城青陽宮,有一道士肩荷竹J29nB245_p0760c22杖,杖頭挑繩連結二圈,若呂字形,下透長繩,牽肥J29nB245_p0760c23羊一隻,日向街中乞食,夜則枕羊眠于宮廊下,率J29nB245_p0760c24以為常。諸生好事者覬其羊之肥,夜往盜之,至則J29nB245_p0760c25不見其羊,他夜往探,則羊俱在,傳以為異。師聞,同J29nB245_p0760c26眾往看,道士方牽羊出,遇于宮門外,師大呼曰:「呂J29nB245_p0760c27純陽何往?」士以手指西,眾回顧,遂失所在。眾驚喜,J29nB245_p0760c28謂師曰:「公識此人為仙,莫是其同流歟?」師咄曰:「識J29nB245_p0760c29甚好惡?」
J29nB245_p0760c30七年甲戌J29nB245_p0761a01師二十一歲。設帳六合寺,寺僧梅菴善琴書,師與J29nB245_p0761a02朝夕譚論甚歡,間以語錄詰之,梅多不能答。師戲J29nB245_p0761a03贈以詩曰:「為僧不解究根由,徒學琴書到白頭,能J29nB245_p0761a04向無絃彈一曲,許伊來作我同流。」梅覽之愧感,乃J29nB245_p0761a05束包而去。
J29nB245_p0761a06八年乙亥J29nB245_p0761a07師二十二歲,歸石坎廟舊書館,于後山造石塋,每J29nB245_p0761a08月朢日,率及門焚字紙,埋于此處。埋時恒說長短J29nB245_p0761a09偈,門人記其語成卷帙,師自序弁首,名《三山居士J29nB245_p0761a10錄》。蓋廟後三峰聳峙,取以自號,且終身不改。師嘗J29nB245_p0761a11語近侍曰:「吾做書生時,便會說脫空話。」
J29nB245_p0761a12九年丙子J29nB245_p0761a13師二十三歲。文宗陳公平人試師文,稱羨不置,並J29nB245_p0761a14獎許豐都李井仙。是年,李果發解。按師寄井仙書J29nB245_p0761a15云:「昔從平人老師案下粗識居士,維時在燭影光J29nB245_p0761a16中也。陳公記為蜀國第一人,此老可謂具眼。近自J29nB245_p0761a17眉師兄錄首,復睹題辭,讀其文如見其人,別致靈J29nB245_p0761a18根,有不可一世之概,奚翅得文字三昧。慶忠有言J29nB245_p0761a19曰:『井仙自號為尼山鐵臂,某不獨為雪嶺銅頭,此J29nB245_p0761a20猶是勝負說話,老人不合放過。若是遇著三山,斷J29nB245_p0761a21斷入我彀中,居士肯甘心否?』」
J29nB245_p0761a22十年丁丑J29nB245_p0761a23師二十四歲。是年夏,與瞿不荒、肖月林、李兼老結J29nB245_p0761a24社東山,評選宋元以來碩儒詩賦及應試程文,盛J29nB245_p0761a25行宇內,維時有蜀東四才子之稱。後三人俱獲連J29nB245_p0761a26第,不荒官至臺中,兼老官至柬垣。按兼老祭師誄J29nB245_p0761a27辭云:「師生巨族,岐嶷挺姿,優曇本淨,涅而不緇。幼J29nB245_p0761a28習鉛槧,拾藻泮池,淹通經史,扶搖可期。四郊多壘,J29nB245_p0761a29豺虎滿蹊,妖星纏極,鼓角聲悲。朱櫻畫閣,瓦礫等J29nB245_p0761a30齊,銅駝荊棘,王孫夜馳。國步艱矣,天地何時?陵谷J29nB245_p0761b01且變,体重髮髭。覓耆闍崛,向寸心而,支公離俗,慧J29nB245_p0761b02遠靜宜。白雲一塢,南華楚辭,遊山不借,貯水軍持。J29nB245_p0761b03跏趺面壁,性地無虧,三車了義,洞矚靡疑。藉茲筏J29nB245_p0761b04喻,啟眾生迷,能使宗者,言下得覷。錫飛蜀楚,津梁J29nB245_p0761b05廣施,持笻行腳,遍振僧規。公侯世胄,膜拜皈依,懷J29nB245_p0761b06馬遷意,眺回川奇。輸胸中蘊,布文字慈,放舟湘澤,J29nB245_p0761b07止吳門兮。江山花月,收入禪機,操觚染翰,鹿苑珠J29nB245_p0761b08璣。唱酬弗輟,坡老印師,語付梨棗,後學寶之。刮磨J29nB245_p0761b09障翳,奉以金鎞,未幾返棹,夔峽逶迤。忠陽選佛,殿J29nB245_p0761b10宇厜嶬,縉紳秉筆,鐫頭陀碑。鄙人丱角,里巷追隨,J29nB245_p0761b11商古確今,朝吟▆咿。烽煙告警,倏爾分離,四十餘J29nB245_p0761b12載,頻遶夢思。屋梁落月,顏色依稀,羲和逞轡,瞬息J29nB245_p0761b13崦嵫。星霜云邁,逝者如斯,叩鐘有願,天不慗遺。途J29nB245_p0761b14人傳訃,或恐參差,空慚蓮社,霣涕漣洏。涅槃證果,J29nB245_p0761b15掉臂嫌遲,入剎那頃,撚指奚為?區區陳誄,詎不受J29nB245_p0761b16嗤?心香一瓣,遙哭吾師。」又寄性統古風云:「三山寶J29nB245_p0761b17衣今誰託?端受了徹上乘人,見明寧被風旛惑?一J29nB245_p0761b18指心傳果得真。別菴來我里,邂逅西郊道,顧我老J29nB245_p0761b19龍鍾,扶鳩話艸艸。侵星叩柴門,具飯共論討,園蔬J29nB245_p0761b20等伊蒲,脫粟供一飽。掉頭長揖過前溪,我識阿難J29nB245_p0761b21聞道蚤,前年寄我一函書,我欲裁復少鯉魚。珍重J29nB245_p0761b22辯才時開篋,遶檐清馥長芙蕖,迄今三年不見面J29nB245_p0761b23渴塵萬斛難滌除。憶昔卯角時,汝師同里閈,少年J29nB245_p0761b24馳騁文墨場,操觚兩人每對案。方期獻賦上明光,J29nB245_p0761b25西北狼煙起奔竄,汝師抖搜著衲衣,身付空門鮮J29nB245_p0761b26悲歎。鄙人跼蹐傍風塵,博得一官日將旰,歸來無J29nB245_p0761b27恙夢猶驚,隋侯珠作千仞彈。卅年往事轉瞬間,垂J29nB245_p0761b28光近將楞嚴看,尚擬裹糧叩洪鐘,汝師一笑即彼J29nB245_p0761b29岸。盥寫誄辭哭白雲,識者嗤我如蠶絆。別菴弟,三J29nB245_p0761b30山師,門外雪深一丈時,枯禪故紙無消息,真諦原J29nB245_p0761c01不在言辭。漫道優曇無續種,請看盂缽已生枝。」兼J29nB245_p0761c02老時年已八十有五,長篇致意諄諄若此,可想共J29nB245_p0761c03夙昔之深交矣。
J29nB245_p0761c04十一年戊寅J29nB245_p0761c05師二十五歲,舉次子,師益慶承業有人,脫塵可必。J29nB245_p0761c06于是藝業之暇,檢閱禪家語錄,喜巴掌和尚悟道J29nB245_p0761c07偈,遂擬作巴掌歌十二首寄贈之,有「何時一見三J29nB245_p0761c08巴掌,摑碎須彌血濺天」之句。掌和尚見之,謂人曰:J29nB245_p0761c09「者漢儼有作家手眼。」致書復,師益欣躍。
J29nB245_p0761c10十二年己卯J29nB245_p0761c11師二十六歲,赴省應試,道經重慶二郎關,秋陽炎J29nB245_p0761c12甚,與同行諸生納涼大樹下,忽有一瞽者,前無導J29nB245_p0761c13引,手不持杖,飄然後至,師戲問曰:「你向那裏去?」曰:J29nB245_p0761c14「朝峨眉去。」師曰:「峨眉在那裏?」曰:「就在目前。」師曰:「恁J29nB245_p0761c15麼則不必去也。」曰:「相公也須親到一回始得。」師異J29nB245_p0761c16其語,命僕持錢與之,不受,別行曰:「我前去,你後來。」J29nB245_p0761c17行數十步,復轉面大呼曰:「相公不要迷了性,走錯J29nB245_p0761c18了路頭。」師不覺茫然自失,佇立西向者久之,同行J29nB245_p0761c19叱曰:「曾兄痴耶?」師答曰:「有難以告諸公者。」蓋是前J29nB245_p0761c20夜師夢一僧見訪,自稱為師前世道友,兩人共語J29nB245_p0761c21疇昔甚懽,諄囑曰:「我特為你來,你切莫迷神性,走J29nB245_p0761c22錯了路頭,我前去,你後來。」遂化鶴飛去。此瞽者之J29nB245_p0761c23言,竟與夢合,宜乎師之塵念如水也。是冬,丁母憂。
J29nB245_p0761c24十三年庚辰J29nB245_p0761c25師二十七歲。西北以歲荒起諸寇,將臨蜀境,人多J29nB245_p0761c26惶懼,師督及門,課業山寺。一夜,聞殿後鬨聲,往視J29nB245_p0761c27之,則門人中有羅驥者,善武藝,同社數十人皆聚J29nB245_p0761c28習其技,見師來,驚散去。師召謂曰:「汝等勿驚,亂離J29nB245_p0761c29將及,此技亦為要務。」于是恒令羅驥教眾演習,師J29nB245_p0761c30從旁觀之,盡得其技,鄉人因有文武先生之稱。
J29nB245_p0762a01十四年辛巳J29nB245_p0762a02師二十八歲。及門有楊清者,年甫十六,先年遊泮,J29nB245_p0762a03資質穎異。一日,有托缽僧至門化飯,家人與之食,J29nB245_p0762a04食畢,復持一缽去。清隨至溪邊樹下,有一破衲端J29nB245_p0762a05坐受食,儀表甚偉。清前問曰:「汝等皆是異端。」破衲J29nB245_p0762a06答曰:「何謂異端?」清曰:「都是楊墨之徒。」破衲笑曰:「小J29nB245_p0762a07相公錯了也。楊墨之道行于周末,佛教入中國在J29nB245_p0762a08漢明帝時,如你們儒士纔教異端。」清曰:「我儒家正J29nB245_p0762a09教,何謂異端?」破衲曰:「異者,不同也。近見儒士中多J29nB245_p0762a10有習聖賢之學業,不同聖賢之心術,非異端而何?」J29nB245_p0762a11清愧服,拜請曰:「我欲隨師出家,得否?」破衲曰:「汝等J29nB245_p0762a12方役志功名,何為誑言?」清曰:「實非誑言,我業師久J29nB245_p0762a13有是志,我意亦欲效之。」破衲曰:「汝師為誰?」清以師J29nB245_p0762a14姓名告。破衲曰:「既如此,你即隨師出家,我行腳人J29nB245_p0762a15安肯帶汝後生?」遂行數步,復轉身囑曰:「多致意令J29nB245_p0762a16師。」言之再三。清以是言告,師甚生浩歎,再白父欲J29nB245_p0762a17出家,父益嚴責不許。
J29nB245_p0762a18十五年壬午J29nB245_p0762a19師二十九歲。應試棘圍,謄真畢,例滿十人繳卷,同J29nB245_p0762a20號尚欠兩人,師乃伏案小憩,若寐若惺,聞數鬼歡J29nB245_p0762a21呼曰:「者位相公文字甚好,此回必中。」忽叔父曾某J29nB245_p0762a22者厲聲曰:「守定我在者裏,他怎得中?」蓋師少時曾J29nB245_p0762a23以小節觸忤叔父,至此已亡去十餘年,不意竟成J29nB245_p0762a24生死之仇。師驚駭繳卷,大哭出場,即束裝歸家。師J29nB245_p0762a25前四次入場,必候揭曉始歸,今則知其必不能中J29nB245_p0762a26矣。是冬,丁父憂,復值寇亂入境,不得已率親族子J29nB245_p0762a27弟及門生奴僕輩堅守。一日,與賊交戰平橋,自晨J29nB245_p0762a28至暮不決,師奮鎗投之,中渠魁,矛柄貫若十字,賊J29nB245_p0762a29懼引去,自磨灘至高灘,沿河百餘里,咸賴保全。
J29nB245_p0762a30十六年癸未J29nB245_p0762b01師三十歲,邑中白蓮教乘賊勢群起,復邀賊為援,J29nB245_p0762b02舉于賊首,欲得師為帥。會眾強迎,師知勢重,乃率J29nB245_p0762b03家屬八十餘口避地山寨嵒洞間。嵒畔石洞七所,J29nB245_p0762b04每洞藏百餘人,師居其一,離平地高可七尺,咸賴J29nB245_p0762b05寨上固守之威耳。未幾賊至,不信宿寨破,墜嵒死J29nB245_p0762b06于洞前者無數,餘六洞悉就擒。次及師洞,賊大呼:J29nB245_p0762b07「蚤降寬汝死。」師獨拒洞口若不聞,賊擲鎗亂刺,師J29nB245_p0762b08揮矛撥之投嵒,折捐甚多。賊怒,弓弩齊發,師舉方J29nB245_p0762b09綿當之,矢攢簇若魚鱗,矢盡投以亂石,石觸嵒,反J29nB245_p0762b10擊中師額,血流滿面。賊喜,搭梯直上玫之,師一手J29nB245_p0762b11拭血、一手揮矛,連刺數十人。日將暮,賊乃聚薪縱J29nB245_p0762b12火而去。至夜半,將洞中積水潑火得路,逃至邑西J29nB245_p0762b13界曲尾山青煙洞,洞中有河可以運舟,復有小溪J29nB245_p0762b14百道深不可測,執炬以丈計者七,直進至一大潭J29nB245_p0762b15處,潭旁石壁若屏,大刻「此洞天開地闢,避此者可J29nB245_p0762b16以活命。」袁公俊甫攜男于茲,實大宋某年也。師約J29nB245_p0762b17眾曰:「不必前進,觀此記可以藏身矣。」居此三月,邑J29nB245_p0762b18人同避者三千餘家,賊流他郡。會眾將出,忽瘟疫J29nB245_p0762b19作,十去五六,劫運然也。師元配陳氏亦病亡洞中,J29nB245_p0762b20遂于洞外覓地安葬畢,以兩子付家人送至長兄J29nB245_p0762b21處,遂投弔嵒、南浙二師受業,取名照洪,字葦度。按J29nB245_p0762b22行實云:「二十六歲先慈逝,越三年家君亦古,大事J29nB245_p0762b23甫終,便欲離俗。不兩月,寇氛四起,逃之半載,室人J29nB245_p0762b24亦亡,以兩兒託之長兄,遂投弔嵒山、南浙二師出J29nB245_p0762b25家。」又按遺偈云:「行年七十有二,開堂四十有三。」按J29nB245_p0762b26本錄,師于順治甲午始開堂崇聖,云四十有三者,J29nB245_p0762b27總僧臘言之也,則受業當以是年為準。師作南浙J29nB245_p0762b28二師塔銘序有云:「甲申後,予從弔嵒,落髮二師會J29nB245_p0762b29下。」蓋明亂至甲申為極,殆舉變亂大數而言也。
J29nB245_p0762b30十七年甲申,即J29nB245_p0762c01世祖章皇帝順治元年J29nB245_p0762c02師三十一歲,寓忠州東明寺。因化士翠影至,得聞J29nB245_p0762c03慶忠老人住石司之太平,附書上候。老人閱之甚J29nB245_p0762c04喜,仍遣翠影持復書至,師焚香禮誦,滿心欣躍,即J29nB245_p0762c05隨翠影入山。南師恐師去不返,乃同行。老人見師J29nB245_p0762c06之來,與語甚契,師遂矢志親依。南師不悅,攜之入J29nB245_p0762c07黔,師以剃度之恩難廢,勉隨杖履。按行實云:「避兵J29nB245_p0762c08過江南,寓忠州東明寺,聞老人卓錫太平,奉書上J29nB245_p0762c09候,得老人復字中有『似忍賢座不過』之語,讀之歎J29nB245_p0762c10曰:『者老漢得恁麼老婆心切。』遂入山參禮,相依半J29nB245_p0762c11月,被南師強之入黔云云。」寓婺川東泉寺,值舊遊J29nB245_p0762c12李小白、李雨齋諸先生挽留結社。一日,會中有以J29nB245_p0762c13推敲拂意者,乃曰:「若某頭顱既禿,無科甲分矣。」師J29nB245_p0762c14聞而笑之。後有鸚鵡溪之遊,忘拾爨下舊釜,賦詩J29nB245_p0762c15寄慨云:「爾既染衣並染裳,何堪多口忍相忘?量虛J29nB245_p0762c16容物心原闊,器重調羹耳尚黃。一夕自知分冷暖,J29nB245_p0762c17百年誰與共炎涼?此行收拾擔頭去,爛煮乾坤艸J29nB245_p0762c18木香。」
J29nB245_p0762c19二年乙酉J29nB245_p0762c20師三十二歲。伯兄憲副公由戶部主事赴雲南曲J29nB245_p0762c21靖任,路經辰州,遣人迎師,堅執不往。時瞿不荒巡J29nB245_p0762c22按貴州,勉其行,師不得已從之。過天半寺,山高五J29nB245_p0762c23十餘里,險阻難行,寺居山半,亦名土門,主僧請題J29nB245_p0762c24門聯,云:「天有底乎,此處果當其半;土亦物耳,于茲J29nB245_p0762c25詎得其門。」又堂聯云:「天半程途非少,閱幾步還有J29nB245_p0762c26幾步,任君盡日奔忙,須知前去艱難何限,喚勞人J29nB245_p0762c27正好停車駐馬,且向其間睜起一雙眼;人生涉歷J29nB245_p0762c28儘多,經一場又是一場,隨爾終朝馳逐,試看後來J29nB245_p0762c29險阻何窮,呼過客不若息足弛肩,姑從此處放開J29nB245_p0762c30兩道眉。」途行月餘,始與憲副公會于舟次。
J29nB245_p0763a01三年丙戌J29nB245_p0763a02師三十三歲,居伯兄公署。按行實云:「伯兄每謂山J29nB245_p0763a03僧曰:『修行雖善,但出處大事未可艸艸,有志者不J29nB245_p0763a04宜。』山僧笑而不答,且謂:『兵戈載道,舉足有性命之J29nB245_p0763a05憂,只宜弟兄聚首躲此劫運。』山僧從之。」
J29nB245_p0763a06四年丁亥J29nB245_p0763a07師三十四歲。憲副公奉命連絡黔、蜀土司,師隨行J29nB245_p0763a08至酉陽。有同里李某者,昔與曾族有仇,至是父子J29nB245_p0763a09三人避難來投,意託以求庇也。憲副公因舊忿,將J29nB245_p0763a10置彼父子江中,師力勸止,不從,乃強爭曰:「兄欲治J29nB245_p0763a11彼死,天必祐彼生。」憲副公曰:「彼惡徒何功,能邀天J29nB245_p0763a12眷耶?」師曰:「彼曾割股救母,天豈肯死孝子乎?」憲副J29nB245_p0763a13公愕然良久,曰:「非弟此言,幾誤之矣。」遂延李入內J29nB245_p0763a14室,厚款贈以金幣,面諭酉陽土官安插得所,舉家J29nB245_p0763a15全活。蓋憲副公會試時,封翁親送入都,途中大病,J29nB245_p0763a16幾乎不保,憲副公禱天刺股,乃獲痊愈。師言李氏J29nB245_p0763a17之事,感人于隱微,故從之。
J29nB245_p0763a18五年戌子J29nB245_p0763a19師三十五歲。從憲副公至石柱司,取道再見慶忠J29nB245_p0763a20老人于石峰。老人曰:「大丈夫因甚隨他人腳跟轉?」J29nB245_p0763a21師曰:「沒奈他何。」老人曰:「還是沒奈自己何。」被者一J29nB245_p0763a22劄,慚惶而退,然終不能違憲副公。久之,乃從容謂J29nB245_p0763a23曰:「故里在近,兵燹已久,願請歸一視祖墓安妥。」憲J29nB245_p0763a24副公乃遣僕從數十人衛行。及返墊,城郭丘墟,家J29nB245_p0763a25園榛莽,乃築室祖墓之旁以居。仍屢驚風鶴,艱苦J29nB245_p0763a26倍常,從僕多散去。師幸曰:「吾網漸解矣。」忽病瘧,連J29nB245_p0763a27月不愈。師一日呼韋馱告之曰:「我為生死事大,極J29nB245_p0763a28欲參尋,每為塵網所羈,于今方得自由,而業病又J29nB245_p0763a29復纏延,豈此生無般若緣耶?若有緣,明日必行,瘧J29nB245_p0763a30病當退。」次日,正當直瘧,大雨如澍,師攜慈舟、無息J29nB245_p0763b01輩二三人竟行,瘧于是日止。慈舟,即師受業弟子J29nB245_p0763b02楊清也。路遇張某者,同行至孫官河,宿丁長者家。J29nB245_p0763b03是夜,張與長者謀曰:「與我同來者非僧,乃曾道爺J29nB245_p0763b04弟也,身著紬裏衣數十層,內皆藏有金銀,吾與你J29nB245_p0763b05計殺之,均分其有何如?」長者曰:「公言甚合予意,彼J29nB245_p0763b06三人,我兩人未必能勝,不若堅留一日,明夜再會J29nB245_p0763b07兩人圖之。」張以為然。次蚤,長者私謂師曰:「與師同J29nB245_p0763b08行者何如人?」師曰:「路遇也。」長者遂備陳前事,且曰:J29nB245_p0763b09「吾觀師容貌動正,定非常人,故不忍害,前去斷不J29nB245_p0763b10可與若輩同行。數十層紬裏衣是實否?」師揭示之J29nB245_p0763b11曰:「誠然。蓋製此防變,可以代甲,內實無金銀。」長者J29nB245_p0763b12曰:「金銀不必論其有無,前去亦當棄之,勿以此動J29nB245_p0763b13小人心。」師深謝而去。行不半里,脫紬裏衣與張某J29nB245_p0763b14曰:「汝欲此,吾即送汝,勿勞與他人謀也。」張驚怖不J29nB245_p0763b15敢受,師置石上竟去,張自此不復隨行。慶忠老人J29nB245_p0763b16時遷青山頂,師直造其室,先日已有夢感,老人喜J29nB245_p0763b17之。按行實,戊子轉南濱時,老人住青山頂。冬月廿J29nB245_p0763b18二夜,堂中笑亭維那夢一人奇形異狀,持黃緞一J29nB245_p0763b19端來供老人,老人受之,即命亭援筆大書「以此成J29nB245_p0763b20正覺」五字。亭晨興述夢以白老人,老人答曰:「當有J29nB245_p0763b21繼佛真乘者來作吾家種艸,汝且待之。」比午,山僧J29nB245_p0763b22至,老人一見乃曰:「莫是曾不波耶?」山僧曰:「和尚莫J29nB245_p0763b23眼花。」老人發笑。時眉山兄居首位,圓具後即安山J29nB245_p0763b24僧入堂,領箇沒得話頭,終朝咀嚼云云。師入堂,一J29nB245_p0763b25七已過,屢乞話頭,老人並不指示。一日,至方丈跪J29nB245_p0763b26懇曰:「人人皆有話頭,因甚不與某甲話頭?」老人曰:J29nB245_p0763b27「人人都有話頭,獨汝沒有話頭。參!」
J29nB245_p0763b28六年己丑J29nB245_p0763b29師三十六歲,住青山頂堂中,值年饑,日以埜菜瓜J29nB245_p0763b30根為食。越五日,計二十七人,共升米煮湯飲之,曰J29nB245_p0763c01犒勞粥。內外六百餘人,有才智可以別圖食者,輒J29nB245_p0763c02高挂行李于長連單頂,或寄庫司暫假去。有貴人J29nB245_p0763c03秦桂森者,富而向道,山中甚賴護持,嚮師名,白老J29nB245_p0763c04人,欲延師為訓二子,許每歲供以飲食衣服,外贈J29nB245_p0763c05金若干。老人招師語故,師立辭曰:「某為生死大事J29nB245_p0763c06來,豈為衣食金銀來?」秦公莫能強。老人喜其志氣J29nB245_p0763c07堅定,日督之參,不許看一文字,且囑眉山首座不J29nB245_p0763c08許提及一語,將箇沒得話頭竟沒下手處。一宵開J29nB245_p0763c09靜後,潛入方丈,見老人閱錄,旁無一人,近前禮拜,J29nB245_p0763c10問云:「某始則歷歷明明,目不交睫,繼則昏沉漸起,J29nB245_p0763c11話頭亦忘,不知此事從覺裏得?夢裏得?」老人默然,J29nB245_p0763c12師不契,尚佇立,老人厲聲曰:「死漢出去!」乃滿面慚J29nB245_p0763c13惶,禮拜趨出,然猶以無人得見為幸耳。孰知老人J29nB245_p0763c14已通眉首座,次蚤,眾方過堂,眉留師在後,問云:「你J29nB245_p0763c15昨夜入方丈問甚麼話?」師面赤良久,如前舉畢,眉J29nB245_p0763c16微日:「老人答箇甚麼?」師曰:「不曾答。」眉咄曰:「宗師眼J29nB245_p0763c17目動定,切須著意,默然處不是答,那裏是答?」從此J29nB245_p0763c18疑情頓發。幸三巴掌和尚在山,有時請益,又因坡J29nB245_p0763c19繁重,屢為執事者斥辱,多生退悔。按行實云:「山僧J29nB245_p0763c20因質弱不能隨眾,數次辭行。一日,老人普告大眾J29nB245_p0763c21曰:『我辛苦二十餘年,今纔得箇擔擔人來,不能容J29nB245_p0763c22此,我師徒持缽別行就是。』山僧聞此,淚雨如流,跪J29nB245_p0763c23白老人曰:『某甲斷不敢辜負和尚。』老人曰:『汝但莫J29nB245_p0763c24辜負自己。』從此安心座下,雖鶉衣百結,不知其寒;J29nB245_p0763c25藜藿三餐,不求共飽。一味塞耳埋頭,艱忍萬狀,苦J29nB245_p0763c26參兩月,了無入處。初則歷歷明明,目不交睫;繼則J29nB245_p0763c27昏沉漸起,話頭亦忘;久則話頭現成,竟沒巴鼻;後J29nB245_p0763c28則胸臆慌慌,坐不能坐、行不能行、睡不能睡、食不J29nB245_p0763c29能食。以其狀泣白掌和尚,掌和尚低首不應。良久,J29nB245_p0763c30徵曰:『汝果到此耶?不久自有消息。快參!快參!』山僧J29nB245_p0764a01拚死一回。計自戊子冬月廿六日入堂,到己丑廿J29nB245_p0764a02六夜適亭上座閱錄次,山僧隔案伸首,見嚴陽尊J29nB245_p0764a03者問趙州:『一物不將來時如何?』州云:『放下著。』不覺J29nB245_p0764a04肢節俱解,渾身輕快,乃撫案一下,大笑不止。亭曰:J29nB245_p0764a05『見箇甚麼?』山僧驀與一掌,亭儘力一推,山僧趨方J29nB245_p0764a06丈見老人,老人曰:『作麼?作麼?』山僧撫掌三下,老人J29nB245_p0764a07日:『落在甚麼處?』山僧作舞而出,老人不肯。後二日,J29nB245_p0764a08隨老人掌和尚山行次,見浮雲東西飛度,山僧問J29nB245_p0764a09曰:『浮雲落在何處?』老人向空一指曰:『看掌。』和尚驀J29nB245_p0764a10面一掌,山僧作禮,由是腳跟乃得點地云云。」一日,J29nB245_p0764a11笑亭上座舉無夢無想主人公問師,師答已,復令J29nB245_p0764a12著頌,乃曰:「你答也答得,著也著得,拈頌也拈頌得,J29nB245_p0764a13只是會不得。」師曰:「善能高鑑。」亭始述前夢以告,並J29nB245_p0764a14敘發悟之原,兩人巧于相值,師曰:「寐語作麼?」亭呵J29nB245_p0764a15呵大笑。又眉山首座問師曰:「你前此若何?」師曰:「大J29nB245_p0764a16似老鼠聞牛角。」曰:「你即今若何?」師曰:「大似蚊子上J29nB245_p0764a17鐵牛。」師拈頌淆訛公案百則,進呈老人,老人曰:「用J29nB245_p0764a18絡索作麼?」師禮拜而退。十二月,三巴掌和尚應施J29nB245_p0764a19州衛鳳衛侯牟公、封翁化宇、陳公熊耳之請,預延J29nB245_p0764a20師克記室,師許之。
J29nB245_p0764a21七年庚寅J29nB245_p0764a22師三十七歲,繭足入施,衛掌和尚將衣缽付耳菴J29nB245_p0764a23首座,先期脫去,留偈囑師,師堅執不受。彼地僧俗J29nB245_p0764a24文旨上座、贊伯陳公輩敦請助揚,師不得已,乃為J29nB245_p0764a25首眾,耳師實賴輔弼之力焉。制解,鐵老人前後致J29nB245_p0764a26書一十七封,俱一日到,啟讀之,皆命其速回親依J29nB245_p0764a27之意,乃翻然起行。道過九峰,白雲靜室禪人西脈J29nB245_p0764a28敦留供養,且前道兵阻,師從之。先是,西脈夜夢古J29nB245_p0764a29佛一尊從空而降,坐于菴前大樹下。次日,師至菴,J29nB245_p0764a30倦甚,于樹下趺坐小歇,西脈見之,與夢符合,因爾J29nB245_p0764b01降心。住半載,耳師亦至,朝暮酬唱,拈頌公案百則,J29nB245_p0764b02耳師與師共榻。一夜,大雨,屋漏不能寢,因起簞,兩J29nB245_p0764b03人共頂于頭上,對膝坐,商及法門事,耳師曰:「法運J29nB245_p0764b04艱微,賢弟將來自是一株大樹,覆蔭天下人,不待J29nB245_p0764b05言矣。但願為我代接一人,以昌熊耳。」後師曰:「兄已J29nB245_p0764b06出世為人,弟尚腰包行腳,是何言歟?」耳師曰:「不然,J29nB245_p0764b07分量拘人,不可強也。」秋季,師出山,留別耳師詩曰:J29nB245_p0764b08「西風落盡客歸忙,埜菊籬邊散晚香,間綠秋楓紅J29nB245_p0764b09似陣,啣書北雁字成行。買山計拙非圖隱,誓井情J29nB245_p0764b10深豈學狂?何日蠻煙清遠道,共攜于木再逢場。」
J29nB245_p0764b11八年辛卯J29nB245_p0764b12師三十八歲,省覲老人于靈峰。一期入室,老人問J29nB245_p0764b13及末後句,師擬對,老人曰:「不是,不是。」遲兩期,又擬J29nB245_p0764b14進語,老人曰:「不是,不是。」因引一則機緣示師,師忘J29nB245_p0764b15寢食者三晝夜,一宵開靜後,忽然穎脫。次蚤,進謁J29nB245_p0764b16老人,老人竟不與語,周旋竟期,亦不與語。至夜,老J29nB245_p0764b17人上單,師作禮辭出,腳纔跨門,老人遽問曰:「末後J29nB245_p0764b18句作麼生?」師秪對。翌日,老人撾鼓上堂曰:「也大奇,J29nB245_p0764b19也大奇,末後句,玅難思,汝等諸人知麼?那門外漢J29nB245_p0764b20不是老僧悄地引則機緣,又怎得進門?聽吾偈:『全J29nB245_p0764b21身放下隱山隈,頭角纔成喜兩開,展轉由吾相分J29nB245_p0764b22付,雷轟電掣出潛來。』」遂更名燈來,即命師首眾。
J29nB245_p0764b23九年壬辰J29nB245_p0764b24師三十九歲,率眾北渡,道經梁山,總戎姚公聖瑞J29nB245_p0764b25留居石龍寺,極頹壞。師至,開荒鼎創,頓成大觀,改J29nB245_p0764b26額興龍禪院,眾至三千餘指,師惟待以本分艸料,J29nB245_p0764b27督之學、督之參,歲無虛日。嘗著石龍吟云:「我方丈J29nB245_p0764b28假為函丈,我法堂權作書堂,彬彬楚楚,依稀桃李,J29nB245_p0764b29門墻方袍,圓頂文章。」又云:「不說法,不參禪,口挂壁J29nB245_p0764b30上,鼻孔遼天,萬萬千千,莫嚇小兒把空拳。」餘見全J29nB245_p0764c01錄。一時與遊者,孝廉黃公節也、太守陳公翼仁、總J29nB245_p0764c02戎郭公廷輔。按致三公書云:「昨承枉玉,未盡款洽,J29nB245_p0764c03殊為歉事。春來溪魚漸出,好鳥時嗚,差可供耳目J29nB245_p0764c04之樂,乘暇再一過我,從容緒譚,庶不令山靈笑諸J29nB245_p0764c05君太忙也。」作閒僧念佛歌十首,作偈示一齊、幻修、J29nB245_p0764c06獨存、笑梅諸禪人,拈三身四智說。
J29nB245_p0764c07十年癸巳J29nB245_p0764c08師四十歲,示眾云:「四十年來顛倒顛,穿衣喫飯別J29nB245_p0764c09無言,現成公案人不識,更道父母未生前。」士問:「無J29nB245_p0764c10生一句,鬼神不知,因甚被諸人覷破?」師云:「燈籠頭J29nB245_p0764c11觸地。」進云:「覷後如何?」師云:「露柱尾朝天。」士禮拜,師J29nB245_p0764c12云:「九八六十七,蝦蟆聞象鼻;六九七十三,烏龜上J29nB245_p0764c13樹顛。惟有向上難委悉,一二三四五,六七八九十,J29nB245_p0764c14生數成數不相干,衲僧切忌知端的。」卓拄杖云:「習。」J29nB245_p0764c15是冬,眾廣年荒,師致書譚侯西崑云:「陳蔡之厄,昔J29nB245_p0764c16人有之,為其無上下之交也。山埜住高梁,可謂得J29nB245_p0764c17上交矣,而厄猶不免,為之奈何?特字相聞,幸莫作J29nB245_p0764c18相交和尚說話。一笑。」譚公覽之甚喜,即發廩以克J29nB245_p0764c19常住。一日,譚公率諸將士詣寺問道,尋屏左右,隨J29nB245_p0764c20師入丈室,敬白曰:「弟子此生果出得家否?」師曰:「君J29nB245_p0764c21侯被三箇字礙,所以出不得家。」公曰:「是那三箇字?」J29nB245_p0764c22師曰:「放不下。」公良久點首曰:「果然放不下。」從此往J29nB245_p0764c23來咨叩,殷勤備至,師示偈云:「山河大地法王身,處J29nB245_p0764c24處相逢處處真,不識其中端的旨,穿衣喫飯枉勞J29nB245_p0764c25心。」為冉西庚扇頭書偈,答楊文波問道書。
J29nB245_p0764c26十一年甲午J29nB245_p0764c27師四十一歲,再省慶忠老人于忠南玉印山,總戎J29nB245_p0764c28袁寶善居士請就崇聖開堂。先是,癸巳秋,老人渡J29nB245_p0764c29南而來,居士款留北面,師自梁如石寶省老人,先J29nB245_p0764c30夜夢一兒從頂門生出,迨覺,語及門,及門謂:「此行J29nB245_p0765a01當得嗣法弟子。」及至,居士朝夕接見,與語不乖。屆J29nB245_p0765a02冬,奉老人命往雲根勘長陽侯胡公,居士舟共返,J29nB245_p0765a03緣有船頭公案,居士疑甚,日益勤參,至是得親炙J29nB245_p0765a04爐鞴,無一刻置底事。居士誕期,師上堂,拈拄杖云:J29nB245_p0765a05「無量壽來也,將軍身、宰官身、居士身,身身應現;過J29nB245_p0765a06去世、現在世、未來世,世世圓成。作麼生說箇圓成J29nB245_p0765a07的道理?陽數九,陰數六,惟有者箇數不足,金龜嚼J29nB245_p0765a08碎鐵崑崙,夜半日輪當午出。○具眼者看。」問:「如何J29nB245_p0765a09是世尊初生句?」師云:「翡翠踏翻荷葉雨。」「如何是居J29nB245_p0765a10士懸弧句?」師云:「鷺鶿穿破竹林煙。」「且道:居士、世尊J29nB245_p0765a11是同?是別?」師云:「玉印山磊磊落落,曹溪水曲曲灣J29nB245_p0765a12灣。」進云:「恁麼則皇宮現瑞,石寶呈祥。」師云:「桃花紅,J29nB245_p0765a13李花白,冬瓜瓠子撞泥鐘,六月炎天下熱雪。昔日J29nB245_p0765a14今朝事若何?踏著秤錘硬似鐵。」老人送法衣信拂J29nB245_p0765a15至,且致囑曰:「偶憶聚雲老人一語,泣淚長流,深恩J29nB245_p0765a16難報。茲將法衣信拂送與上座代勞看眾,惟願體J29nB245_p0765a17恤中與艱難,憫念法門倒置,慈心不退,悲智長明。」J29nB245_p0765a18師上堂云:「眉滿虛空眼滿地,遼天鼻孔難迴避,舌J29nB245_p0765a19頭嚼碎大雄峰,踞地金毛成隊隊。知麼?慶忠老人J29nB245_p0765a20心行狼毒。」耳菴和尚出,師便打。是時汾陽啟、埜雲J29nB245_p0765a21映、童真善、竺峰敏諸老咸歸煆煉焉。般若譜師尚J29nB245_p0765a22以居士服參,一日師上堂,譜師出,師震威一喝,譜J29nB245_p0765a23師掩耳歸眾。按師圓寂時,譜師來設供,震威一喝J29nB245_p0765a24云:「昔在崇聖堂前拾得的,今日相酬未為分外云J29nB245_p0765a25云。」其勘辨機用,真有入人于微者,道化風動,沛然J29nB245_p0765a26莫遏,識者共慶法運之有歸矣。
J29nB245_p0765a27十二年乙未J29nB245_p0765a28師四十二歲,結制興龍。按上慶忠老人書云:「荒僻J29nB245_p0765a29興龍,十分清冷,但得內外兩堂稍稍就緒,某謬擬J29nB245_p0765a30提持,仰報師恩,自愧才疏,有辜慈朢。」副戎楊公請J29nB245_p0765b01上堂,云:「知彼知此,百戰百勝,九天九淵,計出非常。J29nB245_p0765b02有時減灶添兵,有時減兵添灶,但能逢強即弱,自J29nB245_p0765b03是遇柔則剛。塞北江南,一任橫嘶鐵馬;邊關險隘,J29nB245_p0765b04何妨倒卓金矛。正恁麼時,作麼生是折轉旗鎗一J29nB245_p0765b05句?」呵呵大笑,下座。一日,謂眾曰:「興龍驗人有三句:J29nB245_p0765b06第一、要迸開頂門;第二、要扭轉鼻孔;第三、要脫體J29nB245_p0765b07逍遙。須是不動唇皮,分明道答。還有同生同死者J29nB245_p0765b08麼?」又曰:「參禪人若要此事穩當,除非三年、五年、十J29nB245_p0765b09年、二十年,方有點胸自許分。如徒向他人喉下取J29nB245_p0765b10氣,則口中訣、耳邊風有何益哉?」又曰:「活了死不得,J29nB245_p0765b11情識邊走殺人無數;死了活不得,澄潭裏浸殺人J29nB245_p0765b12無數。活中死得來,盡情放下,灰飛煙滅;死中活得J29nB245_p0765b13來,握土成金,拈來便用。若是英靈男子、出格丈夫,J29nB245_p0765b14便與一齊抹過。不然,且莫匆匆艸艸。」寄勉惺世道J29nB245_p0765b15人入道書,作接引彌勒西方三聖畫像贊。
J29nB245_p0765b16十三年丙申J29nB245_p0765b17師四十三歲。答眉山和尚書。邑令田公平沙索錄J29nB245_p0765b18書。寄邑令林公覲伯書云:「曲徑時蹊,奔趨者眾,做J29nB245_p0765b19官清有守,為僧介而貧,都是世間好事。若能不改J29nB245_p0765b20故步,則所期于腳跟穩當者,前寄贈蒲團,莫教十J29nB245_p0765b21分疏冷。至于話頭一句,姑待面時再劄。」作觀音畫J29nB245_p0765b22相讚,題普賢掃象圖,作元旦、上元、中元、下元表,著J29nB245_p0765b23松嶺閒評。袁寶善刻師語錄,自更名性偉,矢不忘J29nB245_p0765b24工夫,日臻玄奧。師號以香蓮,偈囑曰:「火裏蓮花迥J29nB245_p0765b25異常,一枝特出露新粧,他年馥郁人天眾,鼻孔傳J29nB245_p0765b26來滿地香。」居士拜受。
J29nB245_p0765b27十四年丁酉J29nB245_p0765b28師四十四歲,受總戎姚公聖瑞請,遷五雲。緇衲雲J29nB245_p0765b29集,滿五千餘指,而內外肅然,上追馬祖、百丈之風J29nB245_p0765b30規,下起聚雲、慶忠之道運。按汾陽啟和尚懷師詩,J29nB245_p0765c01有「憶昔近觀三峽浪,而今遙朢五雲樓」之句。文學J29nB245_p0765c02董公致書云:「蝟叢中聞師法朢,塵勞人讀師語錄,J29nB245_p0765c03如賤隸侍貴介登筵,徒極飽飫之思耳。欲圖瞻禮,J29nB245_p0765c04未知緣分奚若?若木兄可代白也。」師答云:「閱華翰J29nB245_p0765c05極為歎賞,但山僧本自無名,法朢從何而起?不用J29nB245_p0765c06耳,還聞得麼?本自無言,語錄從何而來?不用口,還J29nB245_p0765c07讀得麼?蝟叢塵勞,過量人不妨踴身跳出,至于貴J29nB245_p0765c08賤登筵等語,又居士自為區別耳。矧夫嘉餚美饌J29nB245_p0765c09羅列滿盤,倘肯下手,一任飽餐,如第空空垂涎,未J29nB245_p0765c10免饑在飯籮邊,渴居海水裏,緣分自有,相晤匪遙。J29nB245_p0765c11若木止作得傳言送語人,五雲堂也須一回親到。」J29nB245_p0765c12復慶忠老人書云:「某前月廿一日病痰,較之尋常J29nB245_p0765c13頗重,服藥漸就平安,煩執事遠來,不覺心傷皆汗。J29nB245_p0765c14自忖吾師未報之恩與某未了之事,雖是虛生無J29nB245_p0765c15益,更覺浪死為難,詎曰為道愛身,尚期以身殉道,J29nB245_p0765c16而不肯以道殉人。某今年四十有四矣,白雪臨頭,J29nB245_p0765c17清霜染鬢,幾欲覓一蒲地以自了,而多眾縈纏,去J29nB245_p0765c18不忍恝,無奈擔當箇事,得人實難,如僥倖以誤後J29nB245_p0765c19昆,苟且而辱先德,中心自矢,誓不敢為,萬一年力J29nB245_p0765c20稍待,則此衷亦與俱待,又看何時得箇就頭冤家,J29nB245_p0765c21仰副吾師之朢也。」
J29nB245_p0765c22十五年戊戌J29nB245_p0765c23師四十五歲,示吳居士燈籠偈,作渡江達磨面壁、J29nB245_p0765c24達磨畫像讚,為大衍書記書冊云:「筆底墨間,無法J29nB245_p0765c25可說,若欲有說,借茲筆墨。驚神泣鬼出毫端,驟雨J29nB245_p0765c26馳風疏懶拙,卷舌逆流三峽湍,合拳反鋪五峰雪。J29nB245_p0765c27有時唱出山坡羊,有時唱作西江月,西江月影自J29nB245_p0765c28沉沉,照徹崑崙紅似鐵。倒騎木馬趁西風,橫駕金J29nB245_p0765c29牛驅比郭,與爾蕭灑度時光,與爾遊戲敲平仄。不J29nB245_p0765c30諧律呂詠新詩,不譚玄要誇玅訣,偶爾成篇篇不J29nB245_p0766a01成,誤動秋風驚落葉。長三短五響鏗鏘,七縱八橫J29nB245_p0766a02深曲折,哩哩囉,囉囉哩,話到從中絕頭尾。筆行欲J29nB245_p0766a03止心復行,瞬目雲煙千萬里,煙雲堆裏埜人家,朝J29nB245_p0766a04對青山暮晚霞。烏鴉報樹柴門曉,客來煮菜又烹J29nB245_p0766a05茶。鐺煙冷,倩誰烘?榾柮爐邊煨火紅。撥火燒燈鐘J29nB245_p0766a06磬晚,須臾又見月當中。理藤床,高枕臥,翻身又怕J29nB245_p0766a07枕子墮。嚗地一聲夢初回,睜眼來只者箇。玄中意,J29nB245_p0766a08少人知,如顛如醉又如癡。蒙頭破衲無絲線,爛似J29nB245_p0766a09虛空苦怨誰?斷線殘絲重績紡,紡成絲線沒觔兩。J29nB245_p0766a10竿頭繫著任蹉跎,江北江南看伎倆。伎倆窮,風流J29nB245_p0766a11足,扁舟一葉無拘束。釣得錦鱗得意歸,從容為報J29nB245_p0766a12南山竹。」又書軸云:「日日五雲何所事?閑來打坐困J29nB245_p0766a13打眠。有時一唱重雲破,有時一嘯烈風穿。轟雷掣J29nB245_p0766a14電忘歲月,擊水敲空不計年。箇中意,向誰言?相看J29nB245_p0766a15一笑致冷然。願與同吹無孔笛,願與同操沒絃琴。J29nB245_p0766a16沒絃琴上知音少,流水高山為爾傳。」答憲副高公、J29nB245_p0766a17總戎胡姚二公問道書。寄太平三空師弟書。作慶J29nB245_p0766a18佛誕、佛成道、結制、解制表。
J29nB245_p0766a19十六年己亥J29nB245_p0766a20師四十六歲。江干風鶴師通鎮臺姚公,正月迎慶J29nB245_p0766a21忠老人至五雲,八月送住高峰禪寺。時破山禪師J29nB245_p0766a22居雙桂十里之內廠,三大道場各聚數千指,彈九J29nB245_p0766a23小邑,遂成龍象窟宅。一日謂眾曰:「山僧十數年前J29nB245_p0766a24以見見,十數年後以不見見,而今覓箇見與不見J29nB245_p0766a25了不可得,汝等諸人作麼生檢點?若檢點得,出入J29nB245_p0766a26地獄如箭射。」又曰:「五雲千言萬語,止向汝等道得J29nB245_p0766a27途路邊事,至于到家一句,必待自證自得,不然終J29nB245_p0766a28被別人瞞過,可笑可笑。」又曰:「一二三四五,今不今,J29nB245_p0766a29古不古,六七八九十,乾者乾,溼者溼,趙錢孫李沒J29nB245_p0766a30奈何,周吳鄭王無巴鼻。天地人,日月星,秋冬春夏,J29nB245_p0766b01水火木金,逢人且說三分話,未可全拋一片心。」答J29nB245_p0766b02憲副方文二公、孝廉黃公大祿問道書。答眉山和J29nB245_p0766b03尚書云:「接翰教,知雲嵒法席極力提持,俱從本領J29nB245_p0766b04作事,可見因時救弊之婆心。大都近日禪流多虛J29nB245_p0766b05少實,習禮貌,尚浮華,攻文辭,學機辯,拾得些殘羹J29nB245_p0766b06餿飯,便爾自高自大,遏捺不住,動言知識可作,佛J29nB245_p0766b07祖可超,領眾匡徒不過易易,急欲逢人賣弄,到處J29nB245_p0766b08誇揚,曾知學道出家為著何事?獨不思了生脫死,J29nB245_p0766b09豈是兒戲做得底?接物利生,豈是妄誕行得底?諦J29nB245_p0766b10觀古人入一叢林,出一保社,不惜筋力,不憚疲勞,J29nB245_p0766b11忍苦耽饑,積功累行,忘身棄體,百折千磨,向煩惱J29nB245_p0766b12場中銷鎔習氣,從菩薩道上培植心田,一朝果熟J29nB245_p0766b13馨香,入廛垂手,兢兢重任,翼翼小心,惟恐屈辱門J29nB245_p0766b14庭,盲瞎晚進。至于扶危拯溺,興慈運悲,調護維持,J29nB245_p0766b15周詳委曲,苦中之苦有不忍言者,豈淺薄之徒所J29nB245_p0766b16得僥倖而勉強者哉?故聰明可尚也,而參悟為難;J29nB245_p0766b17學問可嘉也,而修行為最;知識之名位可據也,而J29nB245_p0766b18因緣福報為艱。若非一一經嘗,那能知甘識苦?弟J29nB245_p0766b19年來與吾兄東西異地,不獲抵掌而譚。所可憾者,J29nB245_p0766b20末季之世,滿地狂禪,習成輕薄,用賄賂而買紙付J29nB245_p0766b21囑,傍門戶而倚勢縱橫,精舍祗園變為屠居酒肆,J29nB245_p0766b22方袍圓頂不啻販客征夫,人人圖方便出身,箇箇J29nB245_p0766b23從便宜著腳,傷心觸目,良可痛也!弟雖獨豎孤標J29nB245_p0766b24于一傳眾咻之地,規矩繩墨未嘗不刻刻矜持,國J29nB245_p0766b25耐眾多,及門偷安習懶,沿為慣病。遙聆法範,大有J29nB245_p0766b26同心,曷勝欣慕!」又答衡山法兄、汾陽法弟書。書軸J29nB245_p0766b27示福德道人云:「三山住五雲,誰識五雲者?福智智J29nB245_p0766b28偏長,智長可共把。問我云何修?我道無別事,彌陀J29nB245_p0766b29佛一聲,頓忘前後際。心貞貞如石,心潔潔如蓮,既J29nB245_p0766b30貞而且潔,可以禮金仙。或時廣布施,或時勤供養,J29nB245_p0766c01亦用貞潔心,更無三兩樣。以消累世愆,以植多生J29nB245_p0766c02福,以此貞潔心,配天而受篤。福智已如是,福德亦J29nB245_p0766c03應然,唱隨和樂處,是為最勝緣。既我為爾說,爾勿J29nB245_p0766c04聽吾言,始名為知覺,知覺亦何名?不離貞潔心,心J29nB245_p0766c05心常若此,谷嘯也山嗚。」舉千夫上座立僧兼為作J29nB245_p0766c06自真讚。
J29nB245_p0766c07十七年庚子J29nB245_p0766c08師四十七歲。夏五月,建新菴于新城寨,為避亂計。J29nB245_p0766c09師往視工,入浴次,偶疾作甚重,經晝夜方愈,始漸J29nB245_p0766c10省數有可憑,而終亦有不能拘者。按童真和尚《松J29nB245_p0766c11軒日錄》:「西蜀高峰三山來禪師,少為書生時,夢歷J29nB245_p0766c12冥府,冥君以簿視之,見父算五十有七,己算亦五J29nB245_p0766c13十有七,是時父已五十有六矣。師懇冥君,乞減己J29nB245_p0766c14算十年,以增父壽。冥君執筆熟視良久,再詢,師答J29nB245_p0766c15如前,乃增減之。後父果逾十年而終。師出家參慶J29nB245_p0766c16忠老人,不半載間,豁然大悟,久之,乃荷忠印記。厥J29nB245_p0766c17後弘法三十餘年,壽至七十二而寂。五十七之數J29nB245_p0766c18不驗。」《松軒日錄》但言五十七之數不驗,若果驗,則J29nB245_p0766c19減去十年,即當在四十七矣。示碧波、默識、穎如、蘿J29nB245_p0766c20菴諸禪人偈,拈逗▆語十首,有「乘風不許蜉蝣老,J29nB245_p0766c21為歎新雛去復歸」之句。答給事蕭公品玉問道書。J29nB245_p0766c22三空和尚性多激烈,先師親覲慶忠老人,得法居J29nB245_p0766c23師後,每有不平意。至是,師答書云:「前此我為兄,你J29nB245_p0766c24為弟,便覺不快;此後你作兄,我作弟,有何不可?」空J29nB245_p0766c25師慚服,相見執禮尤恭。空師之與眉山和尚,其分J29nB245_p0766c26亦然。眉與書云:「有人道得末後句,不愧為吾師弟。J29nB245_p0766c27速道!速道!」空愈加奮恨,以是知師之雅量有大過J29nB245_p0766c28于人者。
J29nB245_p0766c29十八年辛丑J29nB245_p0766c30師四十八歲,付囑高弟四人。按師上慶忠老人晝:J29nB245_p0767a01「某今春解制,付囑千夫無言,兩孫聽其待時行化,J29nB245_p0767a02餘囑有住山者二人。」又答眉山和尚書:「今春弟將J29nB245_p0767a03從上擔子分付千夫無言,至于大衍立雪,令之住J29nB245_p0767a04山,不識吾兄社火場頭又如何打當?」題耳菴和尚J29nB245_p0767a05真。示徹微、鏡空、松影三禪人偈。答太守田公、總戎J29nB245_p0767a06郭公問道書。遣僧募鹽。寄王用廷居士書云:「三山J29nB245_p0767a07口不關風,一向言無忌諱,恁麼道,若作佛法商量,J29nB245_p0767a08錯過了也。且道如何不錯過?聽吾偈:『五雲不識羞,J29nB245_p0767a09日用也無愁,惟有淡腸胃,請君為我瘳。』居士莫道J29nB245_p0767a10是般閒話。」作壽袁寶善居士文,末後云:「庚子,山埜J29nB245_p0767a11將白下。」以書詢之,居士留且篤,再約,居士始道其J29nB245_p0767a12實,答云:「某五十有三之年,恐不足以擔大事,負吾J29nB245_p0767a13師朢,某即欲去地方,而地方不肯去,某其奈之何?J29nB245_p0767a14噫!諒矣,山埜過矣。究之山埜未行,忽忽辛丑,居士J29nB245_p0767a15初度又近,因念往投以箑則有句,句則有意,今何J29nB245_p0767a16如者?爰書軸敘道誼,原山埜初得居士喜,今春付J29nB245_p0767a17上首二人,又二人令住山,稍輕快,其如念居士何?J29nB245_p0767a18居士有頌古行世,見聞無不知者,培桑梓,盛德也,J29nB245_p0767a19志扶宗,願弘也,可傳者在千百世,透無生,綿有生,J29nB245_p0767a20正無量耳。」作募建十方堂引。重修玉皇觀記。觀主J29nB245_p0767a21正因,中年從師剃染,名性果,其子富而有才,捐資J29nB245_p0767a22修觀以供父,且諦信宗乘,師曾示號惺惺,邑人恒J29nB245_p0767a23稱涂氏兩世為慈孝。
J29nB245_p0767a24當今皇帝元年壬寅J29nB245_p0767a25師四十九歲,立雪見請作南浙二師塔銘並真讚。J29nB245_p0767a26先是,破山禪師讚云:「是真實相。」繼慶忠老人讚云:J29nB245_p0767a27「欲覓南浙,紙上非真。」師題云:「是相非相,非相是相,J29nB245_p0767a28是非兩忘,如在其上。阿呵呵!見也麼?南浙二師好J29nB245_p0767a29大哥。」宗明老宿傷法運垂秋,狐干成群,作誅病語J29nB245_p0767a30數千言,師閱之,感賦十首,有云:「近日宗門事,君傷J29nB245_p0767b01我更傷,師多脈益亂,法賤人皆狂。杖拂為奇貨,源J29nB245_p0767b02流屬濫觴,旁觀痛未已,猶自賣馨香。」竟以此觸當J29nB245_p0767b03世諱,邪師益猖獗,遂著《闢邪說》。痛宗旨不明,求道J29nB245_p0767b04者執于一橛,乃著《宗旨纂要》呈慶忠老人,老人嘉J29nB245_p0767b05歎曰:「微顯闡幽,深符的旨,以此開鑿人天正眼,大J29nB245_p0767b06有功于後世,但當密傳法器,勿妄授匪人,恐致穿J29nB245_p0767b07鑿耳。」夏, 特旨令天下僧道復民衣,公令森嚴,列J29nB245_p0767b08剎莫能守。邑令林覲伯素與師善,知事勢必改,命J29nB245_p0767b09師闔院勿散,但閉門易服以待,果三月 恩詔降。J29nB245_p0767b10按寄總戎馮公君弼書:「曾生曾僧,君知之矣;曾僧J29nB245_p0767b11曾生,君知之乎?五雲不敢作兩段人,居士切莫作J29nB245_p0767b12兩段看。公令嚴明,識法者懼。且道曾生的是?曾僧J29nB245_p0767b13的是?」又感賦贈黃登雲居士:「踢破浮生一槐棚,不J29nB245_p0767b14辭九上與三登;功名謝去嶺頭雪,富貴看來水上J29nB245_p0767b15水。夢入林皋身正穩,時逢沙汰氣如蒸;黃君過我J29nB245_p0767b16五雲路,向道曾僧仍姓曾。」秋,辭五雲,謀入山計。按J29nB245_p0767b17為葦南禪人書軸云:「壬寅之秋七月幾朢,余將辭J29nB245_p0767b18五雲而出。先是,眾及門各持幅索字書之,數日揮J29nB245_p0767b19毫不已。至此,葦禪人始求余言,援筆書曰:『清泉可J29nB245_p0767b20酌兮,飲之而香;茅屋可栖兮,居之而涼;薇蕨可採J29nB245_p0767b21兮,朝暮而助彼羹湯。何妨逍遙乎松之下、石之上、J29nB245_p0767b22芳艸綠樹之間,隨時序而徜徉?』紳士遮留不得,拂J29nB245_p0767b23衣出江。及門從者如市,所至小院不能容,乃寓石J29nB245_p0767b24寶雲嵒洞,眾皆結茆以處。」代向化侯譚公養元作J29nB245_p0767b25壽。重夔鎮陳總戎文。按贈譚公文,有「壬寅始得見J29nB245_p0767b26公,再見而有蓮社之約云云。」
J29nB245_p0767b27二年癸卯J29nB245_p0767b28師五十歲。按偶拈云:「雲崖洞中閒沒事,烹茶掃地J29nB245_p0767b29爇爐香,有人問我西來意,拍手呵呵笑一場。」觀此,J29nB245_p0767b30師已無復出世想。寶善居士數以名剎致師,皆不J29nB245_p0767c01就,繼謂寶善曰:「勞人思歸,倦鳥斂翼,山埜之志,入J29nB245_p0767c02山惟恐不深,居士為我圖之。」寶善曰:「惟師是命。」師J29nB245_p0767c03曰:「汝溪之上,千峰環列,宜若可居。」寶善即欲送師J29nB245_p0767c04開山,師曰:「勿急,此地有汪姓號寧宇者為之主,在J29nB245_p0767c05居士標下,待山埜往化,喜捨乃行。」先是甲午,師從J29nB245_p0767c06汝溪過,遠朢是山巍峨聳峙,宛結虯盤,尋邀鄉人J29nB245_p0767c07黑龍譚居士導之上,面東南可建梵宮,面西北可J29nB245_p0767c08造浮屠,細詢譚公,知為汪姓地,心賞久矣。至此,汪J29nB245_p0767c09寧宇先夜夢一金甲神持水懺一卷示之,曰:「汝見J29nB245_p0767c10簽首慈悲二字麼?我特化爾慈悲。」寧宇曰:「何謂慈J29nB245_p0767c11悲?」神曰:「捨地造寺。」寧宇曰:「諾。」神呼謝而去。寧宇驚J29nB245_p0767c12覺,端坐達旦,虔設香案,叩首謝神。適師至,語前事,J29nB245_p0767c13寧宇欣然以夢告,且會族長汪星斗叩許之。師即J29nB245_p0767c14于上元日入山,敗屋數楹,旬日結茅遍山谷,四方J29nB245_p0767c15裏糧而至者無虛日,鳩工度材,先大殿,次方丈,左J29nB245_p0767c16右廊廡漸成大觀。按寄林覲伯書:「別經春夏,又復J29nB245_p0767c17新秋,河漢正明,馮空寄想。屈指而計,榮耀何期?相J29nB245_p0767c18邀之緣,如何允當?山埜近住忠之汝溪灘高峰頂,J29nB245_p0767c19刈艸開荒,一番喫力,捨我公誰語之?匪我公誰憐J29nB245_p0767c20之?」林公復書云:「承禪翰見問,慰藉良深,頂頌彌山J29nB245_p0767c21海矣!高峰開創,五丁鉅力,快得名山之福,某不得J29nB245_p0767c22一親法席,謂之何哉?」又按自撰高峰碑:「余性懶癖,J29nB245_p0767c23世務不閑,擔荷法門,靡所他適。溯余先世,自大慧J29nB245_p0767c24而下,西禪鼎需、鼓山安永、淨慈悟明、苦口良益、筏J29nB245_p0767c25渡普慈、一言道顯、小菴行密、二仰圓欽、無念智有、J29nB245_p0767c26荊山懷寶、鐵牛德遠、月明聯池、吹萬廣真、鐵壁慧J29nB245_p0767c27機,機則余之授法本師也。吹萬師翁以聚雲建剎,J29nB245_p0767c28木師亦創治平,皆忠南地。余開法崇聖後,住高梁J29nB245_p0767c29者久之,而興龍、而五雲,龍象填門,結茅以處,兢兢J29nB245_p0767c30繼志,罔問叢林,乃事有適然者。舊總戎袁寶善居J29nB245_p0768a01士為余得法弟子,余癸卯卜一枝于石寶,近地而J29nB245_p0768a02開高峰云云,以詩代書,寄文佐之。」寓竹園,作詩壽J29nB245_p0768a03袁天錫。為總戎馮公君弼書卷。示中知、隱居二禪J29nB245_p0768a04人法語。寄喬松法弟書。作慶雲寺常住碑。
J29nB245_p0768a05三年甲辰J29nB245_p0768a06師五十一歲,建天王殿、廚庫、雲堂,五越月落成。常J29nB245_p0768a07住工資不發化士,而日用自足。以偈代書寄汾陽J29nB245_p0768a08法弟云:「我住尖山山上嶺,熱時熱兮冷時冷,或披J29nB245_p0768a09破衲或麻衣,卻把煩惱一並屏。問我住山事若何?J29nB245_p0768a10隨寒隨暑逐時過,寒時不道寒時苦,暑時不被暑J29nB245_p0768a11時磨。看來寒暑有誰同?青山不見採樵翁,茫茫無J29nB245_p0768a12數人何去?利名場上喜相逢。多為浮生利與名,誰J29nB245_p0768a13從林下著青睛?翻思古昔居山者,數十年來只單J29nB245_p0768a14丁。我昔與君曾有約,久把尖頭屋自縛,尖頭屋就J29nB245_p0768a15君不來,想是君家嫌寂寞。寂寞崖巒心已灰,閒花J29nB245_p0768a16埜艸共徘徊,忽然話到思君處,柴門依舊為君開。」J29nB245_p0768a17著高峰閒詠、拈頌、正燈集三卷。作慶忠老人、三巴J29nB245_p0768a18掌和尚真讚。示霜鏡、穎初、松埜三禪人,吳道人、何J29nB245_p0768a19乾行居士法語。作重修福田寺、萬松山天臺寺疏。J29nB245_p0768a20代向化侯譚公養元作寶聖閱藏引。慶忠老人住J29nB245_p0768a21南城寶聖。秋七月,譚公詣山,舉請閱藏。師以省覲J29nB245_p0768a22至,與譚公快談數日,譚公愈心服,遂再訂前約,以J29nB245_p0768a23磐城捨宅為寺,敦請住持。磐城係公保家出身之J29nB245_p0768a24地,因留意諄諄。按答譚公書:「磐城盛地,捨宅盛心,J29nB245_p0768a25以堂堂之君侯與碌碌之山埜相期而結世外之J29nB245_p0768a26緣,建招提、開蓮社,千古一時之盛事。是以叮嚀而J29nB245_p0768a27囑、屢牘而邀,君侯之所以待山埜者至矣!初約而J29nB245_p0768a28許、再訂而決,山埜之所以報君侯者豈有他哉?總J29nB245_p0768a29之,有君侯如是之檀越,則自有君侯如是之護持;J29nB245_p0768a30有山埜素位之行藏,亦即有山埜素位之日用。至J29nB245_p0768b01于南城長策之議,蓋為萬年之香火計耳!何敢干J29nB245_p0768b02常住每歲之費,就朱提、黃茂較多寡、問盈縮耶?遠J29nB245_p0768b03承台諭,如命敬遵。」
J29nB245_p0768b04四年乙巳J29nB245_p0768b05師五十二歲。夏四月,譚侯委官齎啟至,有云:「念茲J29nB245_p0768b06磐石建勳猷,二十年來幸苞桑之永固;植此曇華J29nB245_p0768b07開錦繡,三千界內期祗樹以長輝。」師躍然趨赴,從J29nB245_p0768b08行者皆抱道魁偉之士。以六月十一日入院,大開J29nB245_p0768b09爐鞴,舉揚佛祖綱宗,博闡玄機,奔走天下英衲,號J29nB245_p0768b10臨濟再興。一日,譚侯至,師陞座,舉明良將軍大庚J29nB245_p0768b11嶺見六祖因緣,垂語畢,僧出問:「在昔功甫入山,白J29nB245_p0768b12雲道箇枕上頌子;即今侯府入山,和尚道箇庚嶺J29nB245_p0768b13大意。一前、一後,是同、是別?」師云:「囉囉哩,哩哩囉。」又J29nB245_p0768b14僧問:「三聖因甚逢人即便出,出則不為人?」師云:「只J29nB245_p0768b15為婆心重,翻成陌路人。」進云:「興化因甚逢人即不J29nB245_p0768b16出,出則便為人?」師云:「誰知鐵石心,傾作和腸淚?」進J29nB245_p0768b17云:「今日底事,和尚是出、是不出?」師云:「不妨疑著。」進J29nB245_p0768b18云:「是為人、不為人?」師云:「謾得過阿誰?」以偈代書寄J29nB245_p0768b19寶聖諸弟姪:「我自離高峰,攜笻到石寶,芒鞋俏不J29nB245_p0768b20禁,溪山共潦倒。好風若相迎,好雨若相送,奈此風J29nB245_p0768b21雨何?日夕交相鬨,澆我煙霞色,吹我襤襂衣。煙霞J29nB245_p0768b22襤襂子,飄飄欲何之?固我目雲漢,雲漢不我留。非J29nB245_p0768b23我輕曳裾,而向彼王侯。其如尊貴人,相催人如織。J29nB245_p0768b24延我入磐沱,揖我磐山陟。磐山山又高,磐水水又J29nB245_p0768b25深。高深磐山水,誰結為知音?為彼知音者,穴淚頻J29nB245_p0768b26頻下。當我欲行時,有手疇共把。乃勞弟與姪,送行J29nB245_p0768b27在竹林。相對一片席,相將一片心。即欲為之言,欲J29nB245_p0768b28言言不得。擬作臨岐辭,推敲無平仄。我今入磐矣,J29nB245_p0768b29弟姪相違矣。相違憶相逢,相逢何日矣。江之南,寶J29nB245_p0768b30聖兮。江之北,曇花兮。盈盈一帶水,夾岸猿聲啼。啼J29nB245_p0768c01不住,寄語江頭將尺素。江上重重疊疊山,遮不斷J29nB245_p0768c02縈懷路。」贈總戎吳公通衢、李公數仞、陳公文宇、任J29nB245_p0768c03公履素、內幕任公弘可、明公肖舒、吳公天石。詩示J29nB245_p0768c04無言西堂、大衍後堂法語。作募修智菴寺、一菴寺J29nB245_p0768c05引。一菴寺在萬邑柏木沱,寺以僧名。一菴刺血書J29nB245_p0768c06經于明嘉靖年間,久之筆端放光,二諦感動,助創J29nB245_p0768c07成剎。世為譚氏香火,兵燹傾廢。一菴孫然明請疏J29nB245_p0768c08于譚侯,譚侯因乞文于師。
J29nB245_p0768c09五年丙午J29nB245_p0768c10師五十三歲,大笑監院通袁寶善居士,請師結制J29nB245_p0768c11高峰。先是,師應請曇華時,高峰裝修尚未全備,笑J29nB245_p0768c12監院受職,竭力展才,拮据從事,諸般盡美。一時贊J29nB245_p0768c13勷者,則有應爵江公、諱試談公、嗚玉傅公。按起期J29nB245_p0768c14上堂:「高峰梵剎乃山僧破荒闢艸而成,今笑監院J29nB245_p0768c15不忘辛苦,同諸檀信請山僧開建禪期,表揚功德。J29nB245_p0768c16所以道:『事無一向,是法住法位,世閭相常住云云。』」J29nB245_p0768c17著伏九閏數七鑿說。作樂隱樂道逍遙呀呀歌、袁J29nB245_p0768c18寶善居士錄序、為無言養立、雪見大衍豫作自真J29nB245_p0768c19贊、梓潼帝君贊、春夏秋冬四景回文詩。示惺若書J29nB245_p0768c20記、紫垣侍者。大笑監院法語。作諷華嚴、法華皇懺J29nB245_p0768c21表、高峰五誡文並常住碑。寄縣尹曾公書云:「前枉J29nB245_p0768c22玉,愧多褻慢,知居士為著大事因緣而來,不在世J29nB245_p0768c23禮濃淡作念,悠悠我心,托之箑上數語,尊號不必J29nB245_p0768c24另加,但道與山僧同宗可耳。如何是同宗一句?」○J29nB245_p0768c25參囑李青眉、張雙承二居士。
J29nB245_p0768c26六年丁未J29nB245_p0768c27師五十四歲,春二月,復至曇華,作壽譚侯養元居J29nB245_p0768c28士文。建盂蘭會、慶觀音誕、文昌帝君、伏魔大帝表。J29nB245_p0768c29為瑞雲陳居士作自真贊。代囑玉眉亮維那。按機J29nB245_p0768c30語云:「耳菴師兄受衣缽于巴掌和尚,開堂四剎,不J29nB245_p0769a01輕授受。一朝示寂,囑令門人等參隨山僧,並以衣J29nB245_p0769a02缽轉託交代。菴逝後,亮維那、華侍者、定學人、聖化J29nB245_p0769a03主同參山僧于五雲。不數年,定住高梁,華亦脫去,J29nB245_p0769a04聖以原執事克入高峰。及山僧受請磐山,亮復隨J29nB245_p0769a05焉,十載未離,行履見地,勘驗有素,應以轉託山僧J29nB245_p0769a06之衣缽代耳菴付囑于亮。夫耳菴兄,山僧之手足J29nB245_p0769a07也;亮維那,耳菴之弟子也。山僧于菴則兄視之,于J29nB245_p0769a08亮則姪視之,法門分誼,凜然千古。今以耳菴之弟J29nB245_p0769a09子仍接耳菴之衣缽,匪獨不忘耳兄也,亦且不忘J29nB245_p0769a10掌和尚也,亮維那其永續菴嗣而昌厥後。聽吾偈:J29nB245_p0769a11『養成頭角自耳菴,牙爪深藏又十年,珍重熊山獅J29nB245_p0769a12子子,長將法乳續燈傳。』」又囑紫垣性貴、天湖性定、J29nB245_p0769a13雲林性現、大笑性崇,俟時行化。冬,新寧縣尹沈公J29nB245_p0769a14克齋,浙江秀水人,以公事謁夔門太守,道經雲陽,J29nB245_p0769a15託譚侯先容參見,時諄諄以己事請決,師施以本J29nB245_p0769a16分鉗錘,當下省入。按沈公上師書云:「頃趨磐城奉J29nB245_p0769a17謁,伏承吾師垂慈,叩擊逼拶數次,維時心稍有省,J29nB245_p0769a18而口不能言。比蒙舉示華亭船子公案,至夾山辭J29nB245_p0769a19行,回顧船子,舉橈示之云:『將謂別有?』處,始得一了J29nB245_p0769a20百了。如世尊拈花,天龍一指,趙州庭柏,鳥窠布毛,J29nB245_p0769a21以至擎拳豎拂,俱從船子舉橈處徹去。即吾師再J29nB245_p0769a22欲開示,而弟子已掩耳矣。方知本有一顆無價明J29nB245_p0769a23珠,原是半文不直。雖然如是,弟子將者顆半文不J29nB245_p0769a24直明珠,即今珍重去也。古云:『悟了同未了,蓋可忽J29nB245_p0769a25乎哉?』此日印證機緣,朢吾師筆而存之,以志法乳J29nB245_p0769a26之恩,何如?」又云:「蒙許明歲春間法駕惠臨,俾弟子J29nB245_p0769a27盡窺門庭施設,如三玄、三要、九十六種圓相之類,J29nB245_p0769a28庶此生得以無遺憾耳。」作詩送李青眉居士還魏J29nB245_p0769a29安:「十六年頭此日離,臨岐猶自意遲遲,心懷菽水J29nB245_p0769a30幾忘我,夢遠熊峰將謂誰?白社香浮宜著眼,青箱J29nB245_p0769b01彩動好舒眉,他年了卻鵬程債,更向人天作教師。」
J29nB245_p0769b02七年戊申J29nB245_p0769b03師五十五歲,正月,沈克齋居士以肩輿迎師至,新J29nB245_p0769b04一見喜,謂克齋曰:「居士不局于一橛禪矣。」士先在J29nB245_p0769b05曇華別時,欣喜踴躍,謂師曰:「將謂有多少奇特,原J29nB245_p0769b06來只恁麼。」師曰:「莫錯會好,此後正好喫老僧痛棒,J29nB245_p0769b07未肯放過居士在。」及歸,通所見于盛山,盛云:「喜公J29nB245_p0769b08已打得箇圓相了,何不並圓相抹卻?」士思此語與J29nB245_p0769b09師正好喫棒之語相符,于是專看吹毛用了急須J29nB245_p0769b10磨及青州布衫句,至忘寢食。比至除夕,忽然徹悟,J29nB245_p0769b11此正是百尺竿頭更進一步,明眼宗師見面難瞞J29nB245_p0769b12也。一日,師問:「如何是萬法歸一?」士卓然立,師曰:「一J29nB245_p0769b13歸何處?」士展兩手。「青州布衫聻?」士將旁僧劈面一J29nB245_p0769b14掌,云:「我從來疑著此語。」師又問:「如何是親切句?」士J29nB245_p0769b15曰:「學人是沈二。」「如何是轉身句?」士曰:「茶碗好盛粥。」J29nB245_p0769b16「如何是異類句?」士曰:「盞子落地碟子破。」「如何是末J29nB245_p0769b17後句?」士曰:「咄!咄!咄!鳥語風聲無不足。」又一日,士同J29nB245_p0769b18冷眼侍師閒立次,適見貓逐雞,雞飛入艸,士曰:「俊J29nB245_p0769b19哉!」師隨取一片磚置地,問士曰:「是甚麼?」士作雞嗚J29nB245_p0769b20聲,士復顧冷眼云:「雞任者裏,貓在甚麼處?」眼便作J29nB245_p0769b21捉雞勢,師笑云:「者話猶未圓在。」士進前曰:「還許學J29nB245_p0769b22人圓得否?」師曰:「許。」士便將磚一腳踢去,師乃印可。J29nB245_p0769b23師居新三月,日舉五家宗旨勘驗,士皆默契,遂記J29nB245_p0769b24莂焉。示號赤肩,諱性宗。按居士自著參學緣起,有J29nB245_p0769b25云:「師舉五家宗旨勘余,余一一默證,因欲授余以J29nB245_p0769b26源流。余思風塵俗吏,此生作了事漢足矣,遂固辭。J29nB245_p0769b27因舉雪師所付因緣,遂還前偈,具白于師,師亦弗J29nB245_p0769b28強。既而自惟:『予投機實在于師,且師不憚千里跋J29nB245_p0769b29踄,為法求人,予又安敢不原所悟,以負慈德哉?』乃J29nB245_p0769b30敬受之。」先是,居士自曇華歸邑,有白氣從西南起,J29nB245_p0769c01上貫天。適聽雪禪師至,士作白毫光偈示之,有「不J29nB245_p0769c02信大家舉首看,何人不見白毫光」之句,雪欣喜印J29nB245_p0769c03可,遂以源流見囑。士曰:「予半生多從先儒語錄中J29nB245_p0769c04著力,去冬印心于曇華,益與吾道相發明,茲不過J29nB245_p0769c05欲作一灑脫書生,但知此事便休耳。」因謝以偈云:J29nB245_p0769c06「家師自有尼山在,呼唯明明只此傳。」以見意焉。四J29nB245_p0769c07月,師離新,士送至中途,餞以厚幣,師一併卻之,但J29nB245_p0769c08切囑曰:「見道非難,實證為難,居士珍重保任可也。」J29nB245_p0769c09士禮拜退,師遂歸曇華。示玉侍者法語、空世沙彌J29nB245_p0769c10禮觀音文、答副戎王公一喝問道書、為瑞芝上座J29nB245_p0769c11翠影化主作自真贊。九月,治平慶忠老人示滅,師J29nB245_p0769c12上堂,喝一喝,云:「此是先師三十年來把釣持竿一J29nB245_p0769c13句。」喝一喝,云:「此是先師六十六後收綸轉棹一句。J29nB245_p0769c14且承先啟後一句又作麼生?」良久,云:「浯水曲如帶,J29nB245_p0769c15翠山列似屏,時時聚雲雨,在在雙徑雲。法雲密布,J29nB245_p0769c16法雨漓淋,呿呬呿呬,丘乙己,上大人,蓮社永開佐J29nB245_p0769c17治平。」復喝一喝。先是七月,師詣治平,辭老人南下,J29nB245_p0769c18老人贈以偈云:「四百年來斯道奇,而今幸得有人J29nB245_p0769c19知。芒鞋莫畏前途遠,此去南方大展眉。」八月終,老J29nB245_p0769c20人示微恙,謂眾曰:「我有三件大事,須候三山上座J29nB245_p0769c21來。」時高峰監院大笑,崇在側聞之,即遣人速至曇J29nB245_p0769c22華迎師,師已登舟,將南下矣。聞命即奔赴,以溯水J29nB245_p0769c23不能兼程,老人候久,恐師已南行,遂索浴將逝。眾J29nB245_p0769c24跪泣阻留,言:「曇華和尚必來,願少留以待。」如是者J29nB245_p0769c25三日。忽有譚侯差員譚某者,因公事便道過治平,J29nB245_p0769c26報師已南去,蓋譚某但見師登舟後,隨奉差上行J29nB245_p0769c27者。老人嗟歎再三,眾諄白:「曇華和尚雖不能來,老J29nB245_p0769c28人三件大事乞言之,使可傳述。」老人曰:「彼既不來,J29nB245_p0769c29言之何益?」警眾畢,遂坐化于法堂。移時師至,疾呼J29nB245_p0769c30曰:「老和尚!某已來。」猶頷其首者三。是時老人同門J29nB245_p0770a01輩俱先寂,師即為主喪事。十一月,迎靈骨至高峰J29nB245_p0770a02安座,拈香云:「昔從此過,今從此來。分身應念,悲願J29nB245_p0770a03不灰。賴有吾師遺命在高峰頂上,泥牛飛五嶽,木J29nB245_p0770a04馬踐三台。」先是丙午,老人到高峰,見山麓一穴,形J29nB245_p0770a05如仙人大坐,喜謂師曰:「此吉地也,且爾叢林規模J29nB245_p0770a06壯麗,堪作祖山。老僧百年後,宜分靈骨一半瘞于J29nB245_p0770a07此,爾其記之。」師唯唯拜命。至此,故分骨石建塔焉。
J29nB245_p0770a08八年己酉J29nB245_p0770a09師五十六歲,二月,向化侯府,建報恩勝會,請師說J29nB245_p0770a10法于公署。公奉 旨陛見,師以南下告別。譚公切J29nB245_p0770a11訂曰:「某北上得叨師庇,陞遷有地,即專官奉迎,願J29nB245_p0770a12勿我棄,俾得終某皈向之私,以求決夫無上妙道。」J29nB245_p0770a13師許之,乃助師一葉。抵漢陽,訪眉山甫、喬松億兩J29nB245_p0770a14和尚于臥雲。童真善和尚時住安州簡堂,具威儀J29nB245_p0770a15信供,率眾來謁,以師禮見,蓋因少時曾入師室故J29nB245_p0770a16也。師遜謝,相與盤桓月餘。沈赤肩居士亦以裁併J29nB245_p0770a17歸里,過楚,覓巨艦迎師,同至嘉興,館于天寧寺,刻J29nB245_p0770a18聚雲以下三代法錄入楞嚴藏。七月,赤肩居士偕J29nB245_p0770a19本郡縉紳司農曹公秋嶽、司馬張公蘧林、方伯王J29nB245_p0770a20公邁人、銓部吳公鼎吾、給諫楊公自西、郎中錢公J29nB245_p0770a21珥信、太守朱公葵石,暨諸山禪師東塔為則範、金J29nB245_p0770a22明介菴進、梵受俍亭挺、前住持古雲傑,本山耆宿J29nB245_p0770a23大愚、秋月、靜聞輩,交章請住天寧。諸縉紳啟云:「妙J29nB245_p0770a24喜宗風五百載,雲深雙徑;當陽竹篦十六傳,氣壓J29nB245_p0770a25諸方。淬鼓山七星之寶劍,迢迢普覺分燈;挂趙州J29nB245_p0770a26東壁之葫蘆,滴滴西禪法乳。赫爾朝陽啟耀,遐哉J29nB245_p0770a27秋月凝輝。流法化于錦江巫峽之間,樹崇標于劍J29nB245_p0770a28閣銅梁之上。咸聞萬籟交吹,泥牛作舞;共仰孤峰J29nB245_p0770a29壁立,鐵漢低眉。」又云:「乘寶閣之弘開,稍紆象駕;憶J29nB245_p0770a30靈山之授記,大振獅音。將令蠡湖勺水,遙映青衣J29nB245_p0770b01赤甲之奇;從教攜李香林,齊明翠竹黃花之旨。允J29nB245_p0770b02屬千秋之勝事,毋虛萬里之良緣。」諸山名宿啟:「一J29nB245_p0770b03條竹篦子,直由妙喜親承;從上破沙盆,端的西川J29nB245_p0770b04扶起。當大道衰微之日,作吾人皈仰之師。瞎驢邊J29nB245_p0770b05滅卻,猶存灰裏蛇痕;棒頭上打翻,飛出火中鷂子。J29nB245_p0770b06因緣曾而杖履南來,時節至而鼓鐘東應。」又云:「孫J29nB245_p0770b07承祖業,勤巴子卻有鄉情;子就父歸,楊翰林不為J29nB245_p0770b08分外。二千年之叢席,此日維新;三十世之宗猷,一J29nB245_p0770b09時丕振矣。」十一月朔六日,據席,眾請陞座。徐敬可J29nB245_p0770b10居士出,問:「灩澦大如象,瞿塘不可上,如何得旁通J29nB245_p0770b11一線去?」師云:「居士將欲禮峨眉。」進云:「灩澦大如馬,J29nB245_p0770b12瞿塘不可下,如何得平高就下去?」師云:「老僧六月J29nB245_p0770b13到此間。」進云:「恁麼則兩岸猿聲啼不住,輕舟已過J29nB245_p0770b14萬重山。」師云:「快便難逢。」進云:「且道五侯峽內兵書J29nB245_p0770b15畢竟有何奇特?」師以拄杖撥,云:「看。」進云:「看取令行J29nB245_p0770b16時。」師打,云:「伶俐漢。」士禮拜。師舉:「臨濟大師云:『大凡J29nB245_p0770b17演昌宗乘,須一句語具三玄門,一玄門具三要,有J29nB245_p0770b18權有實,有照有用。』老僧撐他戶口門頭,卻又如何J29nB245_p0770b19舉唱?」良久,喝一喝,云:「若向者裏薦得,則知臨濟大J29nB245_p0770b20師面目現在、則知昭覺勤翁面目現在、則知徑山J29nB245_p0770b21慧祖面目現在、則知慶忠先師面目現在。師知從J29nB245_p0770b22上諸老面目現在,不用金針玉線,便可穿卻諸佛J29nB245_p0770b23諸祖鼻孔、便可穿卻天下衲僧鼻孔、便可穿卻現J29nB245_p0770b24前四眾人等鼻孔,便可將天上天下、此土他方、塵J29nB245_p0770b25塵剎剎、不可說不可說、山河大地、艸木叢林、飛潛J29nB245_p0770b26蠕動、情與無情諸般鼻孔一齊穿卻。畢竟如何?」以J29nB245_p0770b27拄杖指露柱云:「者是甚麼人?」便下座。正值諸家鼎J29nB245_p0770b28盛之時,師獨施格外鉗錘,激揚最上宗旨,英靈川J29nB245_p0770b29赴、檀護雲興,見者聞者共稱大慧再來。按智湘老J29nB245_p0770b30宿贈師詩云:「杖錫遙經蜀道難,何緣棘地得盤桓?J29nB245_p0770c01飛霞殘閣羈龍象,標月虛堂栖鳳鸞。風味已知黃J29nB245_p0770c02檗苦,水清應訝法舟寒。聞師棒喝深鞭策,愧我馳J29nB245_p0770c03狂心未安。」曹秋嶽、沈赤肩同師坐次,話及布袋和J29nB245_p0770c04尚機緣,師向嶽索云:「乞我一文錢。」嶽云:「者一文急J29nB245_p0770c05忙拈不出在。」赤肩云:「請向弟子乞看。」師云:「你做窮J29nB245_p0770c06官的人,向你乞箇甚麼?」為錢府高宜人、沈赤肩母J29nB245_p0770c07氏對靈。文水禪人請作彌勒畫像贊。題韻石比丘J29nB245_p0770c08壽松圖、朱葵石居士夢葵化石圖、俞右吉居士行J29nB245_p0770c09樂圖。登千佛閣二絕:「千佛樓頭萬象空,憑高一朢J29nB245_p0770c10興何窮?眼中不覺低城市,但看蒼煙化作龍。翠閣J29nB245_p0770c11亭亭秀水隈,千尊座列寶華臺,簾高放得斜陽入,J29nB245_p0770c12不待莊嚴笑欲開。」
J29nB245_p0770c13九年庚戌J29nB245_p0770c14師五十七歲。示朱葵石居士法語:「吾宗無別旨,但J29nB245_p0770c15從直捷根源處一眼覷破,自是頭頭上顯、物物上J29nB245_p0770c16明。如僧問趙州:『如何是祖師西來意?』州云:『庭前柏J29nB245_p0770c17樹子。』便是者箇道理也。老居士昨云:『別處妥當,一J29nB245_p0770c18件只是一件。者裏會得一處妥、處處妥,豈不是從J29nB245_p0770c19直捷根源處著眼?』又云:『看得本來面目分明,原無J29nB245_p0770c20貴無賤、無貧無富、無喜無怒、無死無生。』只此數語,J29nB245_p0770c21可謂見到說到矣。但要時時保任、念念操存,直做J29nB245_p0770c22到大休大歇的田地,得大自在、得大受用,施為運J29nB245_p0770c23轉、出沒卷舒,任性而流,無可不可,連者保任操存J29nB245_p0770c24四字一並忘卻,更有甚麼參差錯謬、關礙生死大J29nB245_p0770c25事而不一了百當者哉?竹篦子也是者箇、柏樹子J29nB245_p0770c26也是者箇、世尊拈花拈底也是者箇、天龍豎指豎J29nB245_p0770c27的也是者箇、老僧連日所說說的也是者箇、居士J29nB245_p0770c28近日所見見的也是者箇,畢竟如何是者箇聻?」○J29nB245_p0770c29師問徐敬可居士云:「秪如道:不動干戈。又作麼生?」J29nB245_p0770c30士云:「今日上糧事繁。」師云:「甚處得者消息?」士云:「將J29nB245_p0771a01謂和尚錯過。」師顧秋嶽云:「今日徐居士為我證盟。」J29nB245_p0771a02嶽呵呵大笑。師云:「旁觀者哂。」書鐵門限冊首,作金J29nB245_p0771a03天木居士金剛忍字跋。為嚴𨍏轢居士對靈。楊艾J29nB245_p0771a04田居士題刻藏經疏曰:「客問:『刻大藏經與焚青龍J29nB245_p0771a05鈔是同是別?』余曰:『焚不過,刻不盡,請質之俍亭禪J29nB245_p0771a06師。』俍亭曰:『艾田問余,余曰:「刻即儘刻,燒即儘燒,請J29nB245_p0771a07更質之明眼。」』」靜聞監院復請師題,師曰:「恁麼也得,J29nB245_p0771a08不恁麼也得,恁麼不恁麼總得,明眼底辨取。」慶忠J29nB245_p0771a09老人靈骨高峰建塔期將近,懷感四偈,有「剛整絲J29nB245_p0771a10綸纔下釣,慈恩依舊暗中牽」之句。二月,欲上徑山J29nB245_p0771a11掃塔,不果,遂辭檀護理西楫,縉紳攀留。▆至,朱葵J29nB245_p0771a12石居士致書云:「聞和尚動歸志,愚意未可。豈有數J29nB245_p0771a13千里到此,不往徑山掃大慧祖塔,不成就一大事J29nB245_p0771a14因緣,不接引一有志之士?弟子雖老,蒙和尚開示,J29nB245_p0771a15頗有志于求明大事,盡其天年,酒然而去,不枉一J29nB245_p0771a16生,未肯捨和尚去也。明日當艤舟奉迎,面罄欲吐。」J29nB245_p0771a17次日縉紳群會于朱府放鶴洲,再三挽留不得,訂J29nB245_p0771a18以明年建塔畢即南來。廿四起行,僧俗數千人俱J29nB245_p0771a19于北麗橋送別,朱葵石居士呈冊請開示,師即于J29nB245_p0771a20舟中走筆千言,窮冊始罷,題冊首曰:「渡頭法旨,畫J29nB245_p0771a21▆西移,▆▆▆▆失怙恃。」又二月抵漢陽,童真和J29nB245_p0771a22尚趨見曰:「某正擬師之必歸,然此行已為東南立J29nB245_p0771a23行道基矣。」先是師行後,真師于千華臺請乩,問:「敝J29nB245_p0771a24同門三和尚下南浙,不知彼處機緣何如?」乩曰:「一J29nB245_p0771a25葦江陵道況高,又招英俊許眉毛,十洲唱和無知J29nB245_p0771a26己,且喜門庭走者遭。好光景,不蕭條,風來到處有J29nB245_p0771a27人號,記得當年豪貴客,趙翁老漢未曾消。」又問法J29nB245_p0771a28道延促,乩曰:「昨夜泥牛吸水,今朝木馬嘶風,鐵船J29nB245_p0771a29渡水有稍工,怕甚當頭一縱?牛鼠略有阻滯,獅兒J29nB245_p0771a30箇箇潛蹤,逢虎纔逞大英雄,管取風聲遍動。」以此J29nB245_p0771b01知道運行止有數,非人事之所能強也。五月至磐J29nB245_p0771b02城,十一月還高峰。
J29nB245_p0771b03十年辛亥J29nB245_p0771b04師五十八歲,向化侯譚公除貴州安龍總府,聞師J29nB245_p0771b05歸,遣官敦請至任,師辭以建塔事。正月開工,二月J29nB245_p0771b06初九日卯時下靈骨,忽雷霆大震,風雨交作,霎時J29nB245_p0771b07晴霽。青鳥家言:「辛亥辛卯,辛卯辛卯,此吉時也。以J29nB245_p0771b08吉地得吉時,風雲際會,雷雨助發,厥後法裔昌大,J29nB245_p0771b09誠未可量。」壽劉郡侯袁天錫詩。以詩代書,寄文佐J29nB245_p0771b10之云:「別去巫峰一載餘,封疆事業近何如?豈無壯J29nB245_p0771b11烈酬天府?應有嘉聲被艸蘆。雁語漫因嵒壑斷,鱗J29nB245_p0771b12音莫謂石泉疏,偶來念到相違處,故遣薰風送遠J29nB245_p0771b13書。」答總戎牟公士卿、副戎鄧公貞義問道書。詣廣J29nB245_p0771b14積,掃南、浙二師塔,有「昔日相依處,今朝稽首時」之J29nB245_p0771b15句。作佛事演說千餘言,為茂谷禪宿重訂定制集。J29nB245_p0771b16自序有云:「烏焉之混,已在于前;刁刀之差,難免于J29nB245_p0771b17後。」十二月塔成,外豎額三,內豎額四,上下列對三。J29nB245_p0771b18其一曰:「父子兄弟一堂,垂範千年昭祖烈;慈孝友J29nB245_p0771b19恭兩代,遺芳百世起孫謀。」塔內慶忠老人居中,衡J29nB245_p0771b20山和尚居左,師居右,故云。
J29nB245_p0771b21十一年壬子J29nB245_p0771b22師五十九歲。作有恒沙彌刺股救師記,並贈以至J29nB245_p0771b23誠頌曰:「憶昔釋迦文,曾以大孝稱,割肉飼父母,千J29nB245_p0771b24古令人欽。未聞為弟子,事師亦如是,刺股以救師,J29nB245_p0771b25而念無少異。雖于生死理,不知去住因,去來猶如J29nB245_p0771b26幻,胡為惜師身?為願師之生,不忍師之死,一片至J29nB245_p0771b27誠心,甘棄其肢體。當其執刀時,是刀亦非刀,純是J29nB245_p0771b28至誠心,觸鍔非所逃。當其割肉時,是肉亦非肉,純J29nB245_p0771b29是至誠心,痛忍何所顧?惟無所顧兮,亦非圖聲聞,J29nB245_p0771b30天性之所動,純是至誠心。于此至誠心,將以比為J29nB245_p0771c01臣,為臣而事君,盡忠能幾人?于此至誠心,將以比J29nB245_p0771c02為子,為子而事親,盡孝能幾人?忠孝人所難,事師J29nB245_p0771c03胡容易?列于臣子中,此則真難匹。在國而君臣,在J29nB245_p0771c04家而父子,出家為師資,于道一而已。我願為臣者,J29nB245_p0771c05事君盡皆忠,為臣而盡忠,視此將無同。我願為子J29nB245_p0771c06者,事親盡皆孝,為子而盡孝,聞此亦痛悼。我願為J29nB245_p0771c07弟者,事師盡皆敬,事師而盡敬,如此由天性。天性J29nB245_p0771c08爾既然,令我心亦動,我以至誠心,作此至誠頌。但J29nB245_p0771c09願生死理,于爾亦契之,木自無生死,痛爾師何為?J29nB245_p0771c10去住既如幻,割肉亦如幻,如幻亦如幻,知幻即離J29nB245_p0771c11幻。離此諸幻故,是名能事師,大孝釋迦文,願爾亦J29nB245_p0771c12如之。」且舉于太守劉公,劉公召見不得,乃就之,贈J29nB245_p0771c13以襯施,卒不受,闔郡皆以有恒菩薩稱,此頌為之J29nB245_p0771c14倡也。夏,往曇華,以儒業訓眾,作八股一百廿篇,自J29nB245_p0771c15序云:「三十餘年不事筆墨,安知文章為何物?諸子J29nB245_p0771c16欲遊八股一道,不得已,就當日走過路頭指箇路J29nB245_p0771c17引。」諸子其存而勿傳者百廿篇,未免是椿怪案。答J29nB245_p0771c18太守熊公夢鶴、縣尹楊公翼修、文學黃公皋思問J29nB245_p0771c19道書。冬,接漢陽童真和尚書云:「暮春,棹已買定,俄J29nB245_p0771c20李屏山居士從京師來,捺以西江之行,某以和尚J29nB245_p0771c21之命婉辭之。李又曰:『東南天下勝處,公弘揚徑山J29nB245_p0771c22之道而不處要地,恐年代深遠,人難取信,是必念J29nB245_p0771c23伯兄三山和尚一番鼓動,弟應兄呼,事則易耳。』李J29nB245_p0771c24公為江右楊、李,景慕殊甚,以未得一晤為恨。如和J29nB245_p0771c25尚來浙,則聚會之緣又有日耳。至于縣之智能和J29nB245_p0771c26尚知之,嘉秀英俊皆深服座下者,惟和尚念祖翁J29nB245_p0771c27中興之難,痛法門凋弊之極,慈舟速下,則法門幸J29nB245_p0771c28甚,後學等亦幸甚多矣。」先是,師過漢陽,曾寄嘉禾J29nB245_p0771c29朱葵石居士書。舟中送別老居士父子祖孫,至誠J29nB245_p0771c30關切,令人懷感:「山僧于又二月十一日抵漢口,適J29nB245_p0772a01遇法弟童真和尚于臥雲,山僧即請童和尚先至J29nB245_p0772a02貴地,俟山僧秋末下來共酌長策。但童和尚雖屬J29nB245_p0772a03少年,然擔荷法門,先師囑朢尤切,想老居士別具J29nB245_p0772a04正眼,自是一見而知。以貴地佛法盛行之區,近日J29nB245_p0772a05景況稍稍不類,勢必仗老居士喬梓一力護持,或J29nB245_p0772a06請住西徑,或暫寓鶴洲,或且留書館,俾童和尚得J29nB245_p0772a07所即是山僧得所,供養童和尚即是供養山僧,以J29nB245_p0772a08家裏人說家裏話,故敢直捷奉告也。至于本分事,J29nB245_p0772a09時時溫存,自在受用,惟居士深造而得之。」又寄朱J29nB245_p0772a10範臣居士、辰始孚上兩公書:「晤時別時,賢喬梓居J29nB245_p0772a11士種種殷勤,深感高雅,三生之緣真不淺矣。但願J29nB245_p0772a12聚首有期,常領玉屑。範老清閒高尚,自在優游,極J29nB245_p0772a13稱受用。辰始、孚上兩公須是潛心厚養,掇科取第J29nB245_p0772a14當如拾芥,法門維護專倚賴之。茲因法弟童和尚J29nB245_p0772a15移錫貴郡,山僧特請卜檀度于尊翁,知大居士喬J29nB245_p0772a16梓必能為之培助,想亦不待山僧煩頰也。秋風落J29nB245_p0772a17後,即放舟下遊,話會之期諒不遠矣。」
J29nB245_p0772a18十二年癸丑J29nB245_p0772a19師六十歲,往萬邑為向化侯譚公對靈。答田惟敘、J29nB245_p0772a20王含輝、程禎吉三居士問道書。再接童真和尚書J29nB245_p0772a21云:「江左之行,某之不預往者,以囊缽蕭條,身乏輔J29nB245_p0772a22弼,和尚亦當為我諒之。若和尚事事俱備者,元老J29nB245_p0772a23撚鎗,雲與霞蔚,無用躊躇。方今海內諸家炳炳琅J29nB245_p0772a24琅,剎竿相朢,如樹如林,而我徑山一派東南絕響J29nB245_p0772a25者久矣。前年浙江之往,將謂法門自此大弘,不意J29nB245_p0772a26一歲未周便爾返川,而云修造之舉,誼所難辭。然J29nB245_p0772a27在今法門仔細思之,是則是矣,吾恐精神有限,歲J29nB245_p0772a28月易往,扶豎宗綱者畢竟期之何人耶?老人去後J29nB245_p0772a29者,擔子不同小小,若不趁尊軀無恙之時一番踴J29nB245_p0772a30躍,將來此宗隆替非某所知也。」又寄衡山和尚書J29nB245_p0772b01云:「道之興隆係之乎人,關鍵之失亦由乎人,若門J29nB245_p0772b02庭中事赤心相為者,吾知其指不勝屈,而和尚又J29nB245_p0772b03法門中之申包胥也。老人去世者,條重擔其責不J29nB245_p0772b04小,若三翁和尚者,法門砥柱,慶忠後一人也。和尚J29nB245_p0772b05若不力勸之行,乃以院殿羈身,吾恐老人大寂光J29nB245_p0772b06中未必十分首肯。且嘉禾紳士尚稱可化,況朱葵J29nB245_p0772b07石、沈赤肩、曹秋嶽輩為之介紹?既與彼有約,而一J29nB245_p0772b08旦負之,將來何以取信于人?豈善知識真實不虛J29nB245_p0772b09行事也?」是春,師將問舟東下,忽報祖塔大雨崩損,J29nB245_p0772b10仍歸高峰重加修砌,屆冬竣工。作治平定規矩記,J29nB245_p0772b11為慶忠老人設忌,拈香云:「吾師去世已六週矣,卻J29nB245_p0772b12教燈來如何悼挽?」良久,噓一聲,插香作禮。
J29nB245_p0772b13十三年甲寅J29nB245_p0772b14師六十一歲。正月,吳平西叛,自滇黔舉蜀皆變。師J29nB245_p0772b15至曇華,請向化譚侯孫裔輩謂之曰:「令祖捨宅為J29nB245_p0772b16寺,固屬信心,然亦慮有今日耳。公等俱攜家屬來J29nB245_p0772b17此。」悉以舊宅歸之,師率眾移居茶廳樓,譚氏之子J29nB245_p0772b18孫賴以保全者三千餘口。先是,鼎革時,奉 旨毀J29nB245_p0772b19山寨,磐城在例,因改寺署第,得以無恙。秋,列郡稍J29nB245_p0772b20平,師行化高梁,紳士以十餘年間別,欣師之來,若J29nB245_p0772b21曇華再現,遮留問道者,副戎王公含輝、姚公性福、J29nB245_p0772b22李公鳳山、貢元馮公抵中、李公玉白、馮公待價,遷J29nB245_p0772b23寓玉觀、虎城、老高峰數處,凡至其門如市。大衍豫J29nB245_p0772b24住長慶,迎供逾月,冬盡始歸高峰。
J29nB245_p0772b25十四年乙卯J29nB245_p0772b26師六十二歲,正月,歸墊祭雙親墓,備缽資增祭田J29nB245_p0772b27若干。先是,辛亥寄省吾族姪書,有「祖宗墓田須當J29nB245_p0772b28留念,吾族如有歸者,可合力圖回,毋忘首丘」之語。J29nB245_p0772b29師之純孝出于天性,垂老不忘孺慕若此。二月,率J29nB245_p0772b30眾結夏牛首雲嵒寺,山高林密,虎狼載道。入院日,J29nB245_p0772c01上地祠垂語云:「我為傳法而來,爾因護法而住,須J29nB245_p0772c02要遠驅虎狼,肅清道路,俾此山為無上道場,爾亦J29nB245_p0772c03千佛中一數。」猛獸自此屏跡。解夏,囑又山證。傅際J29nB245_p0772c04美居士請說法九峰。作四維和尚真贊。答郡守吳J29nB245_p0772c05公問道書、題渰井周氏善來堂。示周玉舟、雷升吉J29nB245_p0772c06二居士法語。冬,還高峰,作大乘寺中興碑。

J29nB245_p0772c25十六年丁巳J29nB245_p0772c26師六十四歲。覃司君新建善述堂于城北雪子塘J29nB245_p0772c27之麓。正月十一日,請師入院,陞座垂語畢,檀護歡J29nB245_p0772c28喜踴躍,共聯句以紀其盛。司君喬梓有「龍象奔趨J29nB245_p0772c29善述堂,數行綠竹映門墻」之句,朝暮鉗錘學侶,不J29nB245_p0772c30容少怠。夏月,為及門講《易》。一日,講剛柔相磨、八卦J29nB245_p0773a01相盪章,偶頭暈欲墜,近侍扶師就榻,三日小愈,復J29nB245_p0773a02講如故。及門勸請調攝法體,師曰:「願爾等異日為J29nB245_p0773a03人亦如老僧,雖勞死何憾?」眾皆環跪泣下聽之。總J29nB245_p0773a04戎牟官九相輔叔姪兩公時來問道,晉也譚公來J29nB245_p0773a05謁,師與論議尤至。晉也係向化侯孫,蓋不忘先世J29nB245_p0773a06也。晉之子弘堅尚孩孺,就養舅氏司君家,師恒撫J29nB245_p0773a07而教之。檢慶忠老人遺書,感偈十首。
J29nB245_p0773a08十七年戊午J29nB245_p0773a09師六十五歲。正月,登錦屏山,作柔遠閣記。朢天壽J29nB245_p0773a10山,感賦百偈。天壽係師受業師歸寂之地。按師自J29nB245_p0773a11製南浙二師塔銘:「甲申後,予從弔崖落髮,二師會J29nB245_p0773a12下兵擾,各適東西。予後參本師鐵和尚,二師如忠、J29nB245_p0773a13路南。師于辛卯入滅忠之天壽山,浙師負骨殖而J29nB245_p0773a14遷徙數處云云。」冬,出江,道次崇寧鎮,接玉眉亮遺J29nB245_p0773a15書云:「某病痰初起于微,今偶沉重,想此身幻化,數J29nB245_p0773a16所適然,心上別無他慮,單有相傳一事,對眾將就,J29nB245_p0773a17交付徒孫空法,專朢老和尚垂慈,重施不報。至于J29nB245_p0773a18某有辜愧處,誓願再生,還復隨侍,萬祈憐憫,勿為J29nB245_p0773a19過念。」師覽之泣下,即趨天寧,為作塔上之銘。示張J29nB245_p0773a20會吉居士法語。詣崇聖,為汾陽和尚設供。答千峰、J29nB245_p0773a21祖峰兩法姪書。廣積立雪見,迎師度歲。除夕,蔣秀J29nB245_p0773a22石居士請茶話,贈玄樸韻主頌。示蔣相吾居士偈。
J29nB245_p0773a23十八年己未J29nB245_p0773a24師六十六歲,正月大笑崇率眾迎師至寶積,見殿J29nB245_p0773a25閣鼎新,禪規整肅,怡然謂崇曰:「慶忠老人行年止J29nB245_p0773a26六十有六,維時吾同門分化各方廿有餘處,老僧J29nB245_p0773a27今年亦六十六矣,後算不知有幾?觀子作用若此,J29nB245_p0773a28即歸常寂亦可瞑目。」崇再拜曰:「老和尚為法忘勞,J29nB245_p0773a29精神矯健,正朢與趙州齊年,廣接起宗之士,若某J29nB245_p0773a30特以慈恩難負,勉為備員耳。」師益懽悅。總戎易公J29nB245_p0773b01覲橋、副戎傅公相廷、夏公澤宇、葉公陞宇、文學傅J29nB245_p0773b02公爾玉、葉公墳如、易公懷景,皆久入寶積之室,諦J29nB245_p0773b03信宗乘者群來問道,師與酬對精確,各得虛往實J29nB245_p0773b04歸。春盡始還高峰,撰南濱雲崖古和尚塔銘,作玉J29nB245_p0773b05皇院中興碑,掃天寧耳菴和尚塔。冬,吳平西沒,四J29nB245_p0773b06方告急,復入忠路善述堂,重整爐鞴。忠路當楚蜀J29nB245_p0773b07之交,總荊南所屬二十四司、川東所屬二司,俱向J29nB245_p0773b08化焉。湖海奇衲腰包而來者,至無所容。作觀省全J29nB245_p0773b09書後跋。示至玄禪人法語。答副戎彭公際盛、鄧公J29nB245_p0773b10鍾與問道書。慶雲衡山炳和尚訃至,上供垂語。
J29nB245_p0773b11十九年庚申J29nB245_p0773b12師六十七歲,化善述堂後山五里、前河十里不得J29nB245_p0773b13漁獵,覃公許之。自後遠近河山魚獸之類,凡見竿J29nB245_p0773b14影、聞犬聲,悉聚于此,所謂中孚可以格豚魚也。一J29nB245_p0773b15日,覃公喬梓隱身雪子塘樹問,命人塘內下網,獲J29nB245_p0773b16多魚,從人皆喜,拽網臨岸,魚忽群湧奔突,裂網而J29nB245_p0773b17去,無一獲者,覃公大笑。尋至寺,快談竟日而還,自J29nB245_p0773b18此誓永絕漁獵。秋旱大荒,人皆掘艸根為食,惟常J29nB245_p0773b19住供用出自覃公,克足如常。有暴客趙某者,夜盜J29nB245_p0773b20常住米穀,覃公查獲之,土司法當斬,已縛出,將臨J29nB245_p0773b21刑矣。師聞之,速遣人謂覃公曰:「老僧素勸公勿殺,J29nB245_p0773b22今反因老僧殺人耶?」覃公遂釋之。師仍陰遣人周J29nB245_p0773b23之食,趙某愈感重生之恩,常夜持利刃守衛山門。J29nB245_p0773b24冬,辭出江,覃公知勢不能留,乃遣官軍衛行。十一J29nB245_p0773b25月,還高峰,未句日,東夔再變,仍渡江南,止白嵒寺。J29nB245_p0773b26西南大星吐白氣,形若蝭𧍴,直貫北斗,師指謂人J29nB245_p0773b27曰:「彗星氣將盡矣,太平可朢。」果歲盡賊破。
J29nB245_p0773b28二十年辛酉J29nB245_p0773b29師六十八歲。正月,石柱宣尉馬公嵩山遣官敦請J29nB245_p0773b30師入山,寓三教寺。先是,三教馬公祖太保公良玉J29nB245_p0773c01曾請慶忠老人結制于此,是時師亦與參請數,故J29nB245_p0773c02師步壁間韻,有「二十年前度嶺頭,何期此日復登J29nB245_p0773c03樓」之句。馬公請謁殷勤,新君弘裔尤專禪悟,咨叩J29nB245_p0773c04玄要,無分晦明。一日,延師入玉音樓側奉佛居,請J29nB245_p0773c05開示。師曰:「公平日有何言句?」新君遂舉安佛位語J29nB245_p0773c06云:「城東老姆不願見佛,南濱弟子設位供佛,箇中J29nB245_p0773c07同別且置,畢竟將甚麼喚作佛?」連喝三喝,「喚作清J29nB245_p0773c08淨法身得麼?喚作圓滿報身得麼?喚作千百億化J29nB245_p0773c09身得麼?」復喝一喝。師曰:「何不向未喝已前露箇消J29nB245_p0773c10息?」新君擬答,師引手掩其口,新君于此有省。舍人J29nB245_p0773c11馬黃星發褀輩亦勤問道,師與應機唱酬,各得契J29nB245_p0773c12入。法化之盛,人稱慶忠復出。四月八,返忠州,掃治J29nB245_p0773c13平慶忠老人塔。州守余公三朋、遊府李公中珍、文J29nB245_p0773c14學杜公簡臣、鄒公子千、朱公樹原、羅公宗玉接見J29nB245_p0773c15甚歡,敦留請益,逾月始還高峰。是冬,重聞法社,四J29nB245_p0773c16眾景崇,室中辨驗,不假毫髮。或曰:「師年朢七,精力J29nB245_p0773c17就減,況門下不少代勞開鑿人天之士,曷少息肩J29nB245_p0773c18以自養乎?」師曰:「叔世下衰,宗綱不振,司法者咎,安J29nB245_p0773c19敢以年自怠?」俊衲聞之,俱各奮志。答慈運和尚書,J29nB245_p0773c20作天寧常住碑。
J29nB245_p0773c21二十一年壬戌J29nB245_p0773c22師六十九歲。沈赤肩居士除商州,師遣又山證通J29nB245_p0773c23問,以詩代書:「一別南湖意杳然,泊天風浪幾經年,J29nB245_p0773c24魚箋莫訂重來約,雁字難將話舊篇。黯淡巫峰雲J29nB245_p0773c25靄靄,汪洋秀水月涓涓,思君遠宦三秦地,但把音J29nB245_p0773c26書若箇傳。」證至商州,居士已解任矣。師示滅後,仍J29nB245_p0773c27以是詩遺之。佛誕日,汪星斗、汪增社、汪嗚岐三居J29nB245_p0773c28士率眾請說法于桂林圓通寺,作汾陽和尚真贊、J29nB245_p0773c29無名畫像贊:「容貌可觀,威儀可挹,覿面相逢,竟不J29nB245_p0773c30相識。知君姓甚名誰?落在紙上,恐非端的。珍重!諸J29nB245_p0774a01人但宜縱目而觀,無得著眼而覷。噫!」答總戎胡公J29nB245_p0774a02道之問道書。
J29nB245_p0774a03二十二年癸亥J29nB245_p0774a04師七十歲。答給事李公諱兼問道書。壽郎公柱石J29nB245_p0774a05偈:「杏花天矣桃花天,太白星高夜正懸,記取郎君J29nB245_p0774a06初度日,持籌直算到驢年。」為南行者、覺學人作自J29nB245_p0774a07真贊。作偈送彭藎鄉之渝州,示影松禪人法語。冬,J29nB245_p0774a08值師大誕,闔郡宰官、紳士、諸山耆德咸來慶祝,輪J29nB245_p0774a09次不絕者三。越月,伐鼓敲鍾,陞座開示,日繼一日,J29nB245_p0774a10法會之盛,稱未曾有。憲副方公仲魯贈師詩云:「宦J29nB245_p0774a11海尋津纜漫維,雲隈石寶忽逢師,談經古剎三千J29nB245_p0774a12界,悟到玄關百二期。心淨為文光似玉,禪堅揮篆J29nB245_p0774a13妙如鐫,他年錫覽中原勝,明月湖波訪我詩。」師次J29nB245_p0774a14韻答云:「把釣何因得借維,當年泗水喜同師,觀風J29nB245_p0774a15妙愜輿籃會,列社欣逢虎笑期。倩座輸君腰下玉,J29nB245_p0774a16金瓶讓我口頭鐫,雲煙有意如相訪,一目湖山好J29nB245_p0774a17賦詩。」魏安又山證上書有云:「吾師千秋遠難躬祝,J29nB245_p0774a18不肖惟以住靜是務,諸事謹遵慈訓,無敢怠馳。既J29nB245_p0774a19為吾師之徒,必拚為法門之事,敢一刻忘諸心乎?」J29nB245_p0774a20師書答:「賢徒既拚為法門之事,不敢一刻忘諸心,J29nB245_p0774a21老僧豈不籌度聚雲之宗,詎忍一朝易其念?雖曰J29nB245_p0774a22興廢之數,護法默有以主之,要在人之能弘道耳。J29nB245_p0774a23機不剝不復,志不屈不伸,賢徒惟堅冰霜之操,圖J29nB245_p0774a24遠大之業,今且隨緣住山,將來弘開法席,老僧亦J29nB245_p0774a25為吐氣云云。」
J29nB245_p0774a26二十三年甲子J29nB245_p0774a27師七十一歲。春旱甚久,松籓土兵作亂,四埜多寇。J29nB245_p0774a28郡守朱公給示團練居民,于九亭長安寺廣設衛J29nB245_p0774a29備,延師居之,一方俱獲安堵。答忠路司主覃君一J29nB245_p0774a30問道書,作石柱宣慰馬嵩山宜亭記。寄金碧玉居J29nB245_p0774b01士詩:「持竿江際遘多情,解帶留衣俠氣橫。劍珮聲J29nB245_p0774b02隨秋思遠,煙霞色逐小陽生。輕風亂舞淋霜竹,細J29nB245_p0774b03雨頻滋鬥雪英。此日詩腸誰共語,同心可是待嚶J29nB245_p0774b04嗚。」示榮賢、應賢兩禪人偈。冰絃法來理院事時,勤J29nB245_p0774b05請益,師嚴加究竟,蓋不忘玉眉亮遺書也。答文學J29nB245_p0774b06朱樹原、羅宗玉問道書。嘗謂近侍曰:「時勢亂離,心J29nB245_p0774b07每不堪,明歲不東則西矣。」人恒疑之。
J29nB245_p0774b08二十四年乙丑J29nB245_p0774b09師七十二歲,示磐城主人長句,范道人藥病歌、萬J29nB245_p0774b10書狀,碧峰禪人偈,為崦茲禪人書卷。四月初一,回J29nB245_p0774b11高峰,治行裝,辦路糧。或曰:「值茲盛暑,師將何往?」師J29nB245_p0774b12曰:「秋入則涼矣。」人咸擬師將為江浙之行,去臘不J29nB245_p0774b13東則西之言,其為此乎?遂不介意。六月十五日,廣J29nB245_p0774b14積立雪見迎師度夏。既至三日,書示高峰及門曰:J29nB245_p0774b15「老僧大事將終矣,爾等急來接歸,無累他人。」叢林J29nB245_p0774b16及門輩披星而赴,寶積大笑崇、長安冰絃法亦于J29nB245_p0774b17次日至,同迎歸高峰,見賓客語笑如平時,究衲僧J29nB245_p0774b18鉗錘,益辛辣,毫無染病狀。九峰般若和尚胗師脈,J29nB245_p0774b19謂人曰:「吾指下定人死生不爽,若此六脈安和,何J29nB245_p0774b20憂之有?」問安請候者聞此語,漸散去。師舉手戲謂J29nB245_p0774b21般和尚曰:「賢弟未知者一脈在。」遂發書遍辭道契J29nB245_p0774b22諸紳士,凡同門弟兄及門弟子分化各方者,咸命J29nB245_p0774b23來面別。由是諸方聞風而至,憧憧不絕,師與接見,J29nB245_p0774b24無分朝暮,諄諄言法門事。或問諸山旱潦,法眾勤J29nB245_p0774b25怠,溫慰盡情。總戎胡道之于七月初十日卒,十三J29nB245_p0774b26日葬。師聞而喜曰:「去得好,者俗漢乃先我耶?」即命J29nB245_p0774b27刻訃,催之至再,門人啟曰:「訃必日時既定而後可。」J29nB245_p0774b28師微笑,屈指曰:「十五中元,十六、十七治平和尚來,J29nB245_p0774b29刻定十八日午時便是。」先是,治平埜雲和尚書云:J29nB245_p0774b30「中元大會,文武宰官俱來薦親,事畢方能問候。」師J29nB245_p0774c01以多年弟兄,甚朢一別,至十七日不至,乃鳴鼓集J29nB245_p0774c02眾,至大鑑堂詳敘生平踐履,兢兢擔荷處已臨眾J29nB245_p0774c03巨細條分,朗朗人耳。再三囑曰:「我祖法道初盛于J29nB245_p0774c04東南,傳守于西北,今雖中興吾蜀,而東南反為絕J29nB245_p0774c05響,爾等各乘願力,當圖遠取大,勿滯于此,使道化J29nB245_p0774c06廣行,吾死瞑目矣。」索筆艸書條幅者五分,囑後事J29nB245_p0774c07將畢,有堪與楊春卿素問道于師,進曰:「和尚圓寂J29nB245_p0774c08後,入塔之期必俟某酌擇乃行,塔內先有慶忠老J29nB245_p0774c09人、衡山和尚靈骨,恐造次不便。」眾皆言:「楊居士之J29nB245_p0774c10語甚當。」師直斥曰:「恁麼斟酌,若得恰好,直到驢年J29nB245_p0774c11去。」遂書一紙曰:「老僧圓寂後三期即行入塔,吾師J29nB245_p0774c12徒兄弟以吉人而居吉地,自有一切善神為之擁J29nB245_p0774c13護,永發其祥,斷勿以山家年月之語為之阻逆。特J29nB245_p0774c14囑。」眾議始定,遺書州守朱公告別,徐就寢室長坐J29nB245_p0774c15不臥。次日,命行人式可曰:「汝善走,可急到九峰請J29nB245_p0774c16般若和尚來。」移時,聞午梆聲,問近侍曰:「甚時候?」近J29nB245_p0774c17侍曰:「午時。」復問:「式可去幾遠?」曰:「將四五里。」師曰:「可J29nB245_p0774c18急遣人追回,不必去了。」遂索浴更衣,大書「得大自J29nB245_p0774c19在」四字貼龕額,端坐龕中,手書遺偈云:「行年七十J29nB245_p0774c20有二,開堂四十有三,生死瞥然無與,去來有甚相J29nB245_p0774c21干?老僧直實而道,一任諸人疑者疑、信者信、參者J29nB245_p0774c22參,雖然如是,也不得放過。咦!」擲筆瞑目。門人等跪J29nB245_p0774c23請:「法道艱微,祈師再來作度。」言畢,一眾悲號。師復J29nB245_p0774c24揚目云:「汝等勿作兒女態,有傷大體。吾勞心法門,J29nB245_p0774c25苦極生厭,不復返矣。汝等曷易哭泣聲為念佛聲J29nB245_p0774c26乎?」于是念佛聲震,梵樂揚空,仰視師容已宴然寂J29nB245_p0774c27去。龕供三日,遵遺命遷化,齒牙不壞,舍利盈坎,送J29nB245_p0774c28靈骨附入慶忠祖塔內。復收餘骼舍利,造塔于遷J29nB245_p0774c29化處。師凡六坐道場,度門弟子正因性果以下一J29nB245_p0774c30百餘人,嗣法門人干夫性一、無言性養、大衍性豫、J29nB245_p0775a01立雪照見、紫垣性貴、天湖性定、雲林性現、大笑性J29nB245_p0775a02崇、又山性證等十人,嗣法居士總戎袁公寶善、刺J29nB245_p0775a03史沈公克齋、太守朱公葵石、文學李公青眉、張公J29nB245_p0775a04雙承輩五人。其餘殷勤問道者,則有給事李公諱J29nB245_p0775a05兼、涪侯譚公西昆、憲副高公時靖、臺中瞿公不荒、J29nB245_p0775a06太守李公大仔、向化侯譚公養元、總戎姚公聖瑞、J29nB245_p0775a07任公履素、馮公君弼、胡公道之、陳公文宇、向公葵J29nB245_p0775a08赤、吳公通瞿、李公數仞、易公覲橋、司農曹公秋嶽、J29nB245_p0775a09司馬張公蘧林、方伯王公邁人、銓部吳公鼎吾、給J29nB245_p0775a10諫楊公自西、郎中錢公珥信、州守劉公肇孔、邑合J29nB245_p0775a11林公覲伯、墻公禹九、孝廉黃公節也、李公祖童、羅J29nB245_p0775a12公億如、石砫宣慰馬公嵩山、忠路宣撫覃公君一。J29nB245_p0775a13他如聞風仰慕,見面傾心,喝下翻身,棒頭取證。或J29nB245_p0775a14隔江橫趨,移屋深居者,不可勝數。其上堂、小參、示J29nB245_p0775a15眾機緣,皆書記性豫、性定隨在手錄,總計正錄二J29nB245_p0775a16十卷、《正燈集拈頌》三卷、《宗旨纂要》三卷、《松嶺閒評》J29nB245_p0775a17一卷、《祝延增補》一卷、表疏三卷,更有閒談淡語、日J29nB245_p0775a18習語、闢邪說、偶拈雜著,老衲宿儒篋藏手珍,編散J29nB245_p0775a19寰區矣。當其示現受生,宛有瞿曇周行七步之芳J29nB245_p0775a20蹤;呫嗶業文,堪比韓子能起八代之衰替。視功名J29nB245_p0775a21若浮雲,以妻拏為傀儡。修苦行于青山,一任挂眉J29nB245_p0775a22巢頂;勤參請于靈峰,不辭九上三登。其後說法如J29nB245_p0775a23雲雨、棒喝若雷霆,直使迷者醒、失者得,虛者實、窮J29nB245_p0775a24者富。然此猶是拈黃葉止兒啼,究之向上全提、驅J29nB245_p0775a25牛奪食,猶令人迎之無首、隨之無尾,所謂仰彌高、J29nB245_p0775a26鑽彌堅,瞻在前、忽在後,而終莫得其端倪也。檢身J29nB245_p0775a27端約若黃龍、為人勁挺類高菴,率眾整肅、創業偉J29nB245_p0775a28煌,雖百丈、石霜不能獨擅其美;機用縱橫、規矩嚴J29nB245_p0775a29密,即妙喜、楚石安得專稱其長?其應物接人,似春J29nB245_p0775a30風之拂面;確古商今,若明月之入懷。走霞霧千彩J29nB245_p0775b01毫、賦星河于玉板,此其緒餘耳。統生也晚,剃度當J29nB245_p0775b02師五十有九、承印值師古稀之年,而且智暗才疏,J29nB245_p0775b03安能盡識師之底蘊、深窮師之分量?即以虛空為J29nB245_p0775b04口、須彌作舌,亦不能發揚其邊表也。今謹就親炙J29nB245_p0775b05之所見聞,兼考全錄之所記述,編年書事,庶可垂J29nB245_p0775b06範于後昆。若謂弟子揚師之美,則吾豈敢。
